Great Video, Only thing that could be better is so use "Wanted Dead or Alive" -BonJovi as a intro /background music..
But it would probably get you dinged for some sort of copyright issue playing their music. Good times!

Is there a time of year where the percentage of soft shells is lowest?

Male Dungeness molt in late summer. When we crab in November they're just hardening up pretty good.

Do you guys review pots? Is there a type or style you prefer? How much do they run?

    • @Northwestfishingfanatics

Depends on new or used. Market place of Craigslist usually has some. I think the bait is most important and weight too. They have to be heavy enough to stay on the bottom. You should be able to find good pots for around 100 bucks a piece, not including the weighted line, bouys, and weights.

Those octagon pots are McKay pots from Brinnon, Washington. They work really well. I like them better than the round pots.

The octagon ones are 30x30x12 McKay pots, they always catch. We add 12-15# of lead to keep them firm on the bottom in the heavier current areas we fish. Your at about $200ea when you add the rope and 3 floats to the costs.

Great Video. What is the best depth out there to target and what is the length of line you have on those crab pots.

He's fine. Mike does more from his chair than most people can do without one. He's a true inspiration and I am honored to be his friend.

Near Death Motorcycle accident left some significant spinal cord injury. Full recovery is off the table.

I tape a banana weight on the line about 12 feet below the bouy . This makes the line hang straight down under the bouy and keeps other boats and my boat from getting the line in your prop or other boats from running over the line and getting the line in thier prop or cutting the line off when they run over the floating line if you dont weight the line.
Crabs taste a lot better if you cook them in ocean water compared to using tap water that takes away the flavor of the craps meat.

As Gene will tell you all of our lines are lead core weighted line so no need for weights.

Steve is right. We do use lead line. With the current ripping like it was, no amout of weight would keep in vertical. Thanks for watching, though appreciate it.
