    Man you sparked my interest in all of this hard, had already moved to i3-gaps and polybar, got to love this modularity. Hardest part is to give it all a consistent look, so looking forward to your next video.

      Hey Niels! I couldn't agree more. I started yesterday evening working on Polybar. It is going to take me some time to figure a way to put this down as simple as possible. Polybar adds a level of complexity to the mix.

    This looks a lot simpler than when I tried to do this a year ago. With time comes knowledge and familiarity. I think learning xmonad and AwesomeWM helped a bit too in the understanding of what's going on here. Great videos!

    I've watched most i3 tutorials. Yours are among the very best. Have you looked into rounded corners yet? I can't live without them. :) Also, autotiling in AUR is very cool. The ArcoLinux crew jumped on it instantly. Someone had to think of it.

    Loving the content, everything has worked so far, just a heads up, i3lock-color is no longer in the repository, but it is in the AUR, also the scripts for it do not seem to apply to it anymore. Other than that 10/10

    just a suggestion:
    as you have changed your website/domain (and i suppose the information as well which were on the old website) the link which you have in video here (timestamp: 22:17) it's not relevant!
    Perhaps you can upload some of the contexts from your old website to your new website?
    BTW enjoying very much all the videos that you put on UA-cam, keep up the great work you do :)

    Really nice tutorial. I have a dual monitor set up, so i'll stick with the i3lock from i3wm. The script for i3lock-color takes 2 seconds to lock both my screen :/, since they have to compute both monitor images and blur them.

    I've been following your steps throughout the video, however I seem to be having two issues. The arch-update and i3lock-color doesn't seem to be working. I've installed all the required dependencies as well.

    • @eflinux
      @eflinux  4 роки тому +1

      Hi René, make sure you have the correct paths for the scripts in the config file. This is the most common cause.

    How can I turn of the transparency of picom, or configure it? Because when I watch a UA-cam Video on a second window, the video is transparent and I can see my background. I read the wiki, but did'nt understand it.

    • @eflinux
      @eflinux  3 роки тому +2

      You can check that here: wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Picom#Opacity - 90 and 60 represent the level of opacity and the name between single quotes the class name of the program (replace with yours).

I don't know why it happened. Before this I was using ubuntu, In that font were fine. On website they load their own font and other settings so no issues just developer tool is issue. Can you help?

    • @eflinux

      There is a big selection of fonts you can install. You should check the arch wiki and install a bunch of those. After that you'll have a better experience.

    No need to copy a system file to which you have read access as root. Just copy it as normal user from the /etc/ directory and you will not have the "problem" that the copy does not belong to you.

  • @marcello4258

    you are using absolute paths for your config files which are located in your home. wouldn't be a better (than your best) practice to use the environment variables (for the home) or don't they work in the config file? I mean if you want to copy your .config to another user you would need manually to change the users home dir path everywhere

    It would be nice if there is a video on getting the brightness and volume control keys on the keyboard setup. For me the volume buttons work but xbacklight does nothing to adjust brightness.

      @@eflinux Thanks for the reply.
      The solution I found to this was
      1. Either use the light command and package rather than xbacklight
      2. Or install xbacklight from the acpi package and not xorg package. Apparently there is xorg-xbacklight and acpi-xbacklight. The second package will do the trick.

    Is there a way to hide the grub loader when you start the computer? and also is there a way to make a terminal always start on workspace 1 and firefox always load on to workspace 2 when it loads from startx? Ps. I am really enjoying this series, I have learned a ton!! Thank you :)

    • @eflinux
      @eflinux  4 роки тому

      Hi Jason! Yes, you can. For GRUB, you need to edit the grub file under /etc/default and change the TIMEOUT line to 0. As for the programs launching you can add to your config file "exec programname" and if you assigned the workspaces as in the video, they will open up at boot.

    • @JasonColdham
      @JasonColdham 4 роки тому

      @@eflinux I managed to hide the grub loader but not sure I did this in the best way so it maybe something you wish to show us, but I can't get a terminal to autoload on $ws1 or firefox to auto load on $ws2 at startup. I'm clueless :(

    • @eflinux
      @eflinux  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Jason, in your i3 config file add a line with "exec --no-startup-id firefox" and another one for your terminal (you have to put the terminal name you use there).

    • @JasonColdham
      @JasonColdham 4 роки тому
