    The vaulters are related to the united empire however from a time before humanity BECAME the united empire. During endless space 2 The Vaulter campaign talks about finding their Mezari Descendants. And how much of an impossible task this is. However if you play the united empire campaign you learn that the United Empire is itself also descended from the Mezari. (A highly science oriented society that was probably what became of the original "earthlings".

    So vaulters are basicaly the protagonist race, since we always make it to the next game with completing their quest. It's pretty unique that the game protagonist is added to the game through the DLC.

    I have an alternate theory as to the owner of the prison ship: the Endless. Specifically the Concrete Endless. Bear with me on this.
    We know the Concrete Endless were performing experiments on various forms of life on Auriga. We also know Endless Legend takes place before Endless Space but after the Dust Wars. What if Dungeon of the Endless takes place DURING the Dust Wars? The prison ship was taking prisoners (or 'specimens') to Auriga for the experiments. It's not unreasonable to assume some of the specimens could be abducted humans. Unfortunately for the ship and its cargo, it arrived in the middle of a Virtual Endless invasion.
    The Virtual Endless, being akin to sentient computer programs, are the ones responsible for the hacking of the Endless computer on Auriga. Because of the damage from the invasion and the dangerous experiments inside the complex (i.e. Necrophages) the computer seals the doors to protect the Concrete Endless still inside. It may even assume the crashed pod was holding other Concrete Endless and not, in fact, the true occupants; the prisoners.
    Now if all of this is true, then Lifepod Stephanie is actually an Endless ship. This means the writing on its side is also Endless. So why would Vaulter writing look similar if they weren't the owners? Adaptability. The survivors of Stephanie had to learn to read Endless writing in order to master their technologies and survive on a ruined Auriga after the Virtual Endless lay waste to it. Eventually, they stop using any form of human language in favor of the Endless language, as do their descendants, the Vaulters.
    So why do the creatures inside the Husk of Knowledge hate the crystal so much? Being a part of LP Stephanie, a Concrete Endless ship, it's actually Concrete Endless tech. And the creatures don't like being experimented on. The crystal might even be partially sentient, perhaps an area where Concrete and Virtual Endless overlap. The Necrophages and other assorted creatures wish to get revenge for the experiments done on them, even if it just means smashing a crystal that belongs to them.
    This eventually results in the Vaulters escaping Auriga and moving around space before settling on a Terran planet. The rest of humanity has moved on without them, becoming the United Empire, and later the Pilgrims shoot off from them. Being human at their core, however, Vaulter ships still somewhat resemble UE ships. Their ancient, handed-down knowledge of Endless technology gives them their scientific and defensive edge.
    I believe this to be true for one other reason: the creators of the Endless universe have deemed the Vaulters extremely important to the universe. This is evidenced by their presence in both Endless Space and Endless Legend, the only faction to do so. Their own backstory, as I think we can all agree, also shows that the survivors of LP Stephanie in Dungeon of the Endless are the beginnings of the Vaulters. This puts them in all three games, again the only faction to do so. If the Vaulters are that important, that central to the Endless universe, they must have done something (or will do something) supremely important. For the moment, I believe what they did was be the only faction to have any real contact with the Endless themselves by wandering the Husk of Knowledge. Perhaps eventually they will also be the first to recontact the Endless, assuming any are left.
    And if you're still reading after that massive wall of text, I commend you, whomever you are.

      I agree. DotE is an origin story for the Vaulters on Auriga. They were humans who crash-landed on Auriga some time in the past (during the Dust Wars is a highly reliable theory) and after fighting their way out of the Dungeon, they settled and became the First Vaulters. Think of the name - VAULTER. They came out of a Vault! The Dungeon of the Endless IS the Vault. The crystal may be stolen Endless tech and the "hacking" was possibly either the crystal gaining control of the Dungeon's systems (nodes, powering rooms, and the elevator) or something deeper. I believe the creatures hate the crystal because they're programmed to do so by either the Concrete or Virtual Endless.

    • @fabiandonvil
      @fabiandonvil 4 роки тому +1

      couldn't the crystal simply have held a virtual endless? the virtual endless could easily attempt to hack the central computer triggering it's safety mechanisms. maybe the virtual was trying to get it's revenge by unleashing the necrophages and that's why everything in the "husk" attacks it? since the central computer likely controlled everything(having specimins roaming free without any kind of control around your complex seems really dumb).
      cuz the endless were so diverse it's perfectly possible the "vaulters" are one of the concrete endless races.
      the crystal could also have been something of a punishment for a virtual explaining the "penal transport" thing. so the vaulters could have been the crew making the crystal and opbot the surviving "prisoners"(it's highly unlikely to me that commanders would keep a crazy surgeon-bot around for any amount of time).
      the fact that they lived near the husk and that the quake brought "relics" to light makes me think that the vaulters were concretes and the quake unearthed relics from the concretes. correct me if i'm wrong but the success was destroyed so if they were prisoners why would the vaulters have legends about a "fortress" they once owned that was actually a space-ship? wouldn't make sense if they were prisoners since prisoners don't "own" spaceships.
      keep in mind i haven't played any other endless game than endless legend so i may not be aware of some things.

    Hey everybody,
    Just to let you all know, I am still alive and as well as I could be considering the times we live in.
    I do not currently have the tools or software to start making/creating/uploading content right now. For perspective, I currently cannot play any Endless games.
    That’s not to say I wouldn’t like to come back, however. On the contrary, it’s something I fantasise about quite frequently. When that will be is down to luck, fate, or maybe even how soon the apocalypse happens.
    If I were to return, it currently could not be creating videos of the same “quality” as the Endless Lore videos.
    But.... i could make other lore videos about games/worlds I AM able to play. Is that something that people might like?
    I’m sorry for being gone so long.

    well guys, maybe i'm too late for endless lore. but just finish all endless legend and endless space 1&2 i have some idea about vaulter.
    one key this video miss is Mezari race. these people are space people long before the story on endless universe. they live in space for generation cross many universe. so high possibility is that vaulter is prisoner of Mezari. sent to far away universe but end up in ship crash at Auriga. they try hard to survive under endless ruin and they did so many generation, enough to forget their origin. until the great quake open their exit and buried knowledge that lead to story in endless legend. so they always said they came from star.
    and one more thing is these Mesari race was mistake as another race in endless legend. but its confirmed that in just a skin of vaulter in endless legend. More thing is while the vaulter is living in auriga for generation, Mesari race seem to able to settled and build their own empire which probably become United Empire. during endless space 2 UE quest, you will find a quest to define your people who they are. sheredyn, remain imperial or Mezari. and when you select Mezari then look at description they say about "back to ancestor" or something. so this sure refer that older race of human is Mezari
    In conclusion, i like to give the idea of older race of Mezari that become United empire. and the vaulter is the prisoner of Mezari who survive from ship crash and live for generation until they able to go to star again.

    Amazing video, as usual. It helps put everything together. But I do need to mention a few things:
    1. In the Vaulters quest line opbot mentions that he was on board a ship when he went on his rampage. Perhaps he was sent as the ships surgeon but ended up a prisoner on the ship.
    2. we get a much better look at the SS Success via a picture of it in the vaulter quest line. It bears the same style as the Husk of Knowledge.
    However, the Husk of Knowledge is completely automated in the DotE video, hinting that while it may have been built by the concretes, it is now under the control of the Virtuals, who are using it as a lab to develop organic weapons against the concretes. Perhaps the concretes were sending Virtual sympathizers to a border colony to die.
    3. Don't forget that the word Virtual can very nearly be rearranged into the word Vaulter. (Vualtir) That could be what the Concretes nicknamed Virtual sympathizers.

    The argosy was described as an impregnable fortress and the prison ship from dungeon of the endless has no known name but a prison ship needs to be able to withstand an attack from the outside and stop an breach from the outside so the "impregnable" fortress is very likely the prison ship.
    also the only races that knows auriga as such are those native and the endless.
    ps: a lore video about auriga would be nice since the planet seems to be sentient.

    My theory on the broken lords is Auriga was experimented on by the virtuals in a test bombing to see if they could force conversion on the local concretes. I honeslty believe the broken lords used to be concretes that went nomadic to escape the war. Their armor and culture are very similar to the concretes but they didn't focus on technology as much.

    I very much enjoy your lore videos. I'm curious to know your interpretation of the United Empire, and indeed all of the Humans.
    I personally believe that the Vaulters are indeed descendants of the United Empire or another group originating from Earth. Just as the Endless were originally three distinct peoples, the UE would be a conglomeration of the current nations of Earth. We don't know when the UE was founded, but assuming that before the UE there was a more democratic system of government or several governments that can trace their roots to earth, it isn't too hard to imagine the Vaulters as being descendants from a pre UE or early UE prison ship. I'm tempted to believe that they are political enemies of the UE in origin due to stark differences in their beliefs, although, it is also possible these beliefs were fostered during the reconstitution of their civilization.
    Perhaps right after the UE formally annexed other human factions unifying humanity, at least for a time, they political rivals became those prisoners? Also possible that the knowledge of Auriga was lost in the schism that created the Resistance/Pilgrims. Endless Space does start in AD 3000, so that's a long time to build and lose history...
    Addendum: It's true, I don't know of any direct mention of Earth, but couple the names with the fact that the year is listed as something AD and it lends evidence to the hypothesis that this is the Milky Way.

    Just curious if you got to the "Plan B" bit for the quest victory in Endless Legend for the Vaulters. I ran into a few bumps while going for the quest victory and couldn't find any information about it on the wiki so I was wondering if it had been added in a recent patch or something this last sale. Also do you think that the Mezari are actually the origin race of the Vaulters or are they perhaps the Vaulter Rebels that the quest text say appear in the background but don't actually show up in the game itself?

  • @DSzaks
    @DSzaks 6 років тому +1

    Sorry to burst you bubble Gareth but Opbot was a prisoner on the Success, not part of the crew. It is clearly demonstrated in Dungeon of the Endless. All the crew/prisoners have a unique starting skill unique to their faction that causes them to synergize with other members of their faction. Opbot has the prisoner faction skill (Pack of Dogs). When Opbot talks about the descendants of the people he killed he is likely talking in terms of the vaulters race. Although I suppose it is possible that he was the ship surgeon, went crazy and killed a bunch of crew/prisoners and then got thrown in the brig or w/e.
    Here is a theory for you though. Is it possible the vaulters are the Endless? We have seen very few images of the endless. As far as I know the only 3 living endless (from endless space heroes) include one virtual endless and 2 that look relatively similar both with smooth almost mask like faces. But we know that there were 3 species of endless. And from some of the silhouetted pictures and from the virtual endless that at least some of them have major humanoid features. Two arms, two legs, five fingers, etc. We also know that Opbot went crazy during a war due to the large amount of horribly mangled pts coming in. Possibly the Dust Wars? We also know that the Husk of Knowledge was lost during the Dust Wars. I am not sure if it is ever explicitly stated who owned the Husk of Knowledge (virtuals or concrete), but we do know that the virtuals were experimenting with creating genetically manipulated creatures to be used as weapons in the war like the cravers. The necrophages/creatures in this lab could have been similar experiments. Perhaps the Success was a concrete prison transport that unknowingly passed near the research station and was shot down by a virtual patrol ship. Or even that the Success is a virtual prison transport bringing in prisoners (test subjects) two the lab. But was shot down by a concrete assault during the destruction of the husk on knowledge.... although that doesn't quite track since we know some of the crew were physical people... but still something to think about.

    Im new to the lore of endless, and I have to say that this whole story is incredible! Also, what do you think about the broken lords? To me, they actually seem like some sort of "virtuals" prototype, right? Or at least, some sort of beings that came in contact with virtualization technology. I might be missing some key contradiction there, so what are your thoughts?

    • @DeadSun
      @DeadSun  9 років тому +1

      LazahNinja
      You're not wrong thinking that the Broken Lords are quite like the Virtuals, but it's key to remember that they are "like" the Virtuals, so describing them as "prototypes," might not be too accurate as the events of Endless Legend are taking place after the Dust Wars and the initial Virtualisation.
      Interesting to note, the Ardent Mages are quite like the Virtuals too in the aspect that they try to transcend their corporeal bodies to achieve a higher power by using pain and Dust. I think any Lore on the Broken Lords would require a look at the Ardent Mages and the Roving Clans.

    • @LazahNinja
      @LazahNinja 9 років тому

      Huh, never thought of the Ardent Mages like that! The reason I thought the Broken Lords could be described as a "prototype" is that Auriga, from my rough understanding at least, is sort of a laboratory and testing field. So I sort of assumed that any sort of virtuals inhabitant to the planet would more than likely be the results of an experiment. But the roving clans? I think that they're just merchants that take a liking to dust. If anyone would probably be more connected, it'd be the wild walkers, with their natural ability to go into a rage by the powers of dust. There has to be a story behind that.

    When it comes to the album I always thought it was the crystal that talks about what survivors it can use to get to the surface. The crystal even powers all the endless tech below. I think the crystal itself was important endless tech hidden in the transport ship to avoid suspicion. The computer says it's going for the Auriga system but not Auriga itself. Maybe the Empire was going to place it on a moon or something until they figure out how to use it but the crystal had it's own plans. Just a theory though.

    • @Renyth
      @Renyth 9 років тому

      Also for Op-Bots story team him up with Ken. Basically Ken screwed up and killed someone on accident and so did Op-Bot. This lead to their squad being wiped out and them captured. They decide to stop blaming each other since they realise they both screwed up and decided to zip their mouths about it. Kinda funny

    • @DeadSun
      @DeadSun  9 років тому +1

      Not entirely just a theory actually. I believe the crystal to be a Virtual Endless trapped inside a cage. If you watch the DotE short movie of the appropriate channel, you will see that the Endless turret believes there to be four survivors on the Stephanie... but you only ever see 3.

      I always thought the Cravens are descendants from the Necrophages and Endless Legend is a prequel to Endless Space. In your other video you pretty much suggested the opposite. (the Necrophage might have been the ancestors of the Cravens). Regardless, its enjoyable that all three of their games have lore that are tied together.

      BoydofZINJ Weren't Cravers created by the Endless? Besides, I think it's not a prequel, but it takes place simultaneously

    Did you find any way the Vaulters tie in (in lore) with the Mezari? Or are they a non-canon thing? I'm new to the story but I'm intrigued. It's just hard to keep up.

      The Mezari are basically a re-skin Vaulters, I don't think they have any real lore tie in, but I think that would be cool if they did.

      Jcd Cardona I thought so but... It's strange that they have such a specific name.

      The only lore that could tie them in with the Vaulters is that they are a clan in the Vaulters, still part of them but a little different from the rest. However, I don't know everything.

      Well, official wiki says that ones to settle on Raia and later form the United Empire were Mezari settelers. I suppose Mezari are the original humans whose world was destroyed and then they launched several starships to find a world they can colonise. One group of colonisers found Raia and another found Auriga, but failed to colonise it due to their ship crashing into Auriga.

      also endless space 2 is next after endless legend for some reason and pretty much endless space 1 is non cannon

    For anyone seeing this post-ES2 it basically takes place at the same time as ES1. It's just an alt timeline where some new factions are minor and some are major. Also theres a comment down below that suggest the prison ship was actually an Endless ship, which is supported by the fact the Argosy/S.S Success has unique teleporting technology when repaired in ES2, and that it is repowered by dust in the vaulters opening cinematic :)

      It's actually a Mezari/Raian ship from before the founding of the United Empire.

      +Furious Ape Thanks for your comment, Furious Ape. It's really actually quite touching to be receiving comments like this. I don't really consider myself to be popular enough to do an update video, but maybe I should just so everybody knows what going on. The long and short of it is this. From two weeks prior to this video being uploaded until July 10th, I was studying for a teaching degree whilst also teaching at a private school in England. It was quite time consuming until the very end, when I started developing new videos. I have now made a huge change in my life and have left myself incapable of doing any proper research into the Endless series.
      As said, I suppose I should do a short update video to let everybody know what's going on without being vague.
