I met Scott at the System Blue booth at WGI 2019. Seriously such a cool guy, I was a nervous freshman in high school and shook his hand. Should’ve asked for a picture with him lmao
and THAT is why scott johnson is the coolest drum guy ever.. because he's cool enough to do whatever you want when it comes to filming this stuff... thumbs up if you agree
@salarmander this allows for a quicker sticks out. If you put your finger in between, the sticks are already separated and easier to put into playing position.
@RebelOnAWarpath they are pro-mark brand. our school uses em but im not sure what the tenor sticks are called, i know the snare ones are called DC17 scott johnson signature.
TBNR branch they were this year, but that's just about the only time they were better in a cleanliness point of view. Bluecoats almost always has the better design in my opinion
Colin Armstrong You act like that's all that matters, man, at least Bluecoat's line has heart. Tbh, if I was offered a contract at BD or Bluecoats, I'd pick Bluecoats any day.
Im in the same boat dude. Except we have never had instructors. so I have to teach and make up the stuff our line does. I gained leadership skills that i couldnt have otherwise though, so thats good.
I was under the impression that they call it quads because they have 4 main drums and the 2 spocks are more of a sound effect... but who knows? probably Scott Johnson.
Yeah, why not? I mean theirs a lot that's able to do both, but if your playing tenors it's always matched unless your just adding traditional for visual.
@itachimercenary15 they used to use the mts1 or mst whatever it was, it was a scott johnson signature, i have like 12 pairs of them, they were great, i never knew that scojo switched em over to promark, till i looked at vic firth's website and saw that they changed the name of the stick. eh, promark and vic firth are good i guess
everytime I watch BD drumline I like how fierce the playing is, as well as the chops...But, I always feel like I'm listening to forceful down playing. I mean, it's great, but seems muscled. Probably the style they are going for, but I'm not sure i like how it sounds. (not talking about clarity and musicality, just the subtle downward playing style)
So, my friend and I are captains to a metiocre high school line, and this year we lost our drum instructor so we pretty much have to be the instructors. Any tips?
Scott Johnson is so cool! He was very nice to the kid who wanted to record, and the kid was respectful. Amazing drummer, and amazing person
"No pressure Dean" haha Dean did amazing and so did the entire tenor line!
"Is that a video?"
"IT''S WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO BE, MASTER JOHNSON."

Woah, I had no idea this was you!
Hi keelan
Thank you SO MUCH for choosing quads. 3
Scojo the cameraman
God, i love how awesome ScoJo is. He is by far the most awesome drum tech ever.
So awesome that Scott Johnson did that!
scott johnson is so kind to record this for the kid :)
and THAT is why scott johnson is the coolest drum guy ever.. because he's cool enough to do whatever you want when it comes to filming this stuff... thumbs up if you agree
i love how on deans tenors his beating spot on drum 2nd are like perfect but on his 3rd drum they are all over hahah
man that brings me back. had to do the exact same exercise when I was on the line back in high school
we have 2 legends at our school, Dean is one of them.
its cool that scojo takes the cameras and records for people. ive seen him do it a few times
@salarmander this allows for a quicker sticks out. If you put your finger in between, the sticks are already separated and easier to put into playing position.
I can't wait to be on a drum line!! Man, I can only hope! :D
So, did you get drumline?
@@MordasMakesStuff I actually did not. I got married and had a boy instead 😅 I still play drums though ✌
@@kyliecashion3740 that's still great to hear!
just got those quad heads....they sound amazing!!
I was searching for some rudiments and found this....really cool
They have rehearsals for their rehearsals.
Really? Whenever i met him at a competition, he seemed super chill
Sureeeee. One day I'll be on a drum line (Blue Devils) and I promise I will not suck.;)
@PoohStickProductions its an electronic metronome btw
Side view is incredibly satisfying
He's the guy that smiles at the camera twice
The way tenors should be played and sound! TENORS RULE😎😎😎
Those matching stuck heights 👌
@RebelOnAWarpath they are pro-mark brand. our school uses em but im not sure what the tenor sticks are called, i know the snare ones are called DC17 scott johnson signature.
that might have actually been perfect....
Love the drums pretty cool how my school has them now
Fantastic!!
Damn, sick nasty. Especially the last rep.
when dean was playing a was legit thinking "is he the only one playing?"
their freaking robots
Those quads are so cleaann :D
what made you choose bluecoats over blue devils
um duh cause there definitely better like there's no question about it
TBNR branch they were this year, but that's just about the only time they were better in a cleanliness point of view. Bluecoats almost always has the better design in my opinion
what is: personal preference
Colin Armstrong
You act like that's all that matters, man, at least Bluecoat's line has heart. Tbh, if I was offered a contract at BD or Bluecoats, I'd pick Bluecoats any day.
what the fuck does that even mean the bluecoat's line has heart lmao.
Im in the same boat dude.
Except we have never had instructors.
so I have to teach and make up the stuff our line does.
I gained leadership skills that i couldnt have otherwise though, so thats good.
thanks, bro
the two outside tenor players are from the same HS and this years tenor line has three from the same HS that is really cool t
i was at this same camp haha I was on the other side of where you were recording though lol.
You do realize the guy recording is the drum tech
I was under the impression that they call it quads because they have 4 main drums and the 2 spocks are more of a sound effect... but who knows? probably Scott Johnson.
@cddrummer96 I think both Vic and Promark have the Vega tip..
O. M. G. Best drumline. Ever.
@crimson206 it's a sony cybershot, it's like two years old but it gets the job done
Scott Johnson is so damn cool.
scott Johnson is so cool!
DDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!! went to college with that guy! AWESOME!
Perfect technique is perfect
i want a drumline like this :,( lolol
I thinks it's cool how the qaud line is the same height so their drums are at the same height
ScoJo's seems just like an amazingly friendly guy
iv had one where im running through my house trying to find out where its coming from. crazy
EPIC SIC WIN EARGASM!!!!
Holy tan line!
how do hey do it all in synchronization
that was so awesome it swallowed my butterflies (in my stomach)
@MoustacheCloud ye, cause of the tip but do u know where i can find white coloured sticks???
Because goddammit, it's the sexy-ass Blue Devils playing.
Yeah, why not?
I mean theirs a lot that's able to do both, but if your playing tenors it's always matched unless your just adding traditional for visual.

Can someone tell me why the quads hold their sticks at the set postion like that?
Scott is the best.
scotts the man he always does this for people
listen to that velocity!
ScoJo's the best haha. Hey what camera are you using?
damm! this is clean!!
@drumsman24
they look like a variety of System Blue by Pro Mark
everytime I watch BD drumline I like how fierce the playing is, as well as the chops...But, I always feel like I'm listening to forceful down playing. I mean, it's great, but seems muscled. Probably the style they are going for, but I'm not sure i like how it sounds. (not talking about clarity and musicality, just the subtle downward playing style)
Get it girl
@Kissmykilt11 no..they are playing triplet rolls....like the rudiment...not the actual drum
Holy shit you should write a book
@AlexThlangVEVO yeah the sean vega tenor sticks.
@bignate5991 what type of heads are they. i want a set
i took 3 showers today and this was cleaner.
anyone got sheet music for this? especially for the ensemble part
I miss star of Indiana, that line in 93 was ridiculous, they got screwed out of the title and left dci for good
I Love this vídeo haha
Is each sizzle of the rolls in time to?? Feels like it.
you can beat my drums any day, dean
Do they select for appearance when they hire guys for this? Do they all have the same personal trainer and diet coach?
I have one of those too but mine has a little more oatmeal around it
haha i have that same exact warm up at my school its the same tenor split too
was that one of the instructors who took ur camera
no pressure dean
So Michael Cera plays tenors for the Blue Devils. Nice. ;)
haha i was there, i remember watching him film
Never not amazed
Dean Hickman is a fucking beast
The synchronization of this is just to epic! *dies* X_X
scotts a good guy
I want those heads
i like the guy with da blue shortss
Try practicing 14 hours in California or any warm place during the summer
Dean
@quintman15 where is dean hickman?
I recognize this! We play it at our school. Not near as clean as this, however.
1:05 no change in hand motion, thats cool
@kunitky1 Scott Johnson took his camera.
So, my friend and I are captains to a metiocre high school line, and this year we lost our drum instructor so we pretty much have to be the instructors. Any tips?
