    The look on Ben Affleck's face when his buddy rolled him over was about one of the most accurate portrayals of a dead persons face I've seen on screen. Death often steals the emotion from ones expression when it occurs so instantaneous, and he definitely had that blank look.

    Thank you for talking about the Ben Affleck scene and the human aspect of war. I think a lot of issues like PTSD, while maybe not solved, can be abated if people considering combat roles in the military were better educated and mentally prepared for such tragedy.

    • @syskusa6512
      @syskusa6512 2 роки тому +14

      We do a great job of training our troops to go to war, we suck at bringing our troops home. The military believes they do prepare us for war, they numb us to the killing of the enemy. I know that sounds horrible, but when the enemy is just that “the enemy” they are dehumanized which makes the job easier. We deal with different PTSD issues, for me it was seeing my men killed, for others I know it was killing the enemy which has never bothered me. I know some troops that are more effected by the destruction and civilian casualties they saw. Some that never left the wire, or saw anything that still hear the incoming alarms and wake in sweats trying to run to bunkers. PTSD doesn’t have a one way approach to train or educate against, we never know who’s gonna have it, or when they’re going to break. Destigmatizing PTSD in the Military, especially combat roles is the first step in truly helping the military combat PTSD effectively. Unfortunately PTSD has been, and still is a career killer, and unless you’re already in the senior ranks you can’t admit you have a problem because of you do you get put in staff positions. Staff positions, while necessary for career progression to a degree are also positions you put combat guys you don’t think can do well on the line. Troops with PTSD put in staff positions that aren’t seniors often don’t get required line leader time for career progression ending up moved around staff until they reach mandatory out dates. Even more often when combat troops get a diagnosis of PTSD they are immediately recommended for medical retirement, I fought that myself for six years. Remove the stigma and troops could get the help they need before PTSD takes over their lives, or dead ends their careers. Hell I think a combat leader who’s been through PTSD treatment and returned to the line would be better than just medically retiring the guy, they’d have the tools to identify and talk to their troops about the experience. They’d also know the hole that PTSD is and could help troops get out, unfortunately PTSD therapy is time consuming and costly so I don’t see that being an option for our current military models.

    My explanation for the suppressor thing was always just that they had to source all of their stuff in country and not make it look suspicious, and getting a suppressor is way harder than people seem to think

    • @herrsiemes7094
      @herrsiemes7094 2 роки тому +16

      I mean lets be real here , a suppressor wouldn't have helped one bit in that scenario . They are all indoors, every guard except the dude they dropped was already subdued. If they hadn't been taken care off they would be alerted either way by the shot. There are no guards outside the building so there is no point in being quiet anyway. What the dude on the right got right however is that they should've gone in and just dropped them all in the first place :)

      It's easier to make a can than buy one... bare bones, you just need a steel tube and caps with the right thread pitch or a drill with the right diameter and a thread cutter), washers to create baffles bend them into 90 degrees to create the baffles), and patience. Or buy a solvent trap wherever you are, they aren't actually illegal in most of the world, since it's basically just a glorified steel tube. The fact that there are so many regulations surrounding these items in America of all places speaks volumes to the idiocy of gun laws. These are all things any asshole with a basic understanding of metalworking and hand tools can make if they really need/want to.
      Source- I'm a gunsmith and machinist. I literally do it for a living. And that also speaks volumes to how stupid these laws are... I'm constantly pissed about them every time to feds come around for a "visit". And they absolutely know I hate them with a fiery passion.

    I love how the scene where they find the money and keep finding money, and then realise the entire house is filled with more cash than they can carry, is actually based on reality. Pablo Escobar was making so much money, and getting so much paper currency that it actually became a huge logistical problem for them. They had so much physical cash, that they could never spend all of it and ended up burying most of it. They actually lost money because it rotted away in the ground.

It is so hard to put that into words knowing we are all that fast from being here or not. Stay humble, live as it’s about to end and live life for more than yourself and when that time comes you won’t need to worry.

    not sure if you guys are judging from the whole movie or just watching a few snippets of it, they do address the issue with suppressors, its weird they didn't bring that with them however they took down all the other cartel members outside and inside before taking out the last guy who walked out of the hallway. they used non lethal force in the beginning.
    although suppressors wouldn't be enough to be stealthy considering the 7'62 and 5.56 is going to alert all the people across the house even with suppressors obviously.

    • @Excalibur01
      @Excalibur01 7 місяців тому

      Suppressors would work in terms of keeping the concussion down. If you've ever fired a gun indoors, it is a massive boom even if you are trained, even if you have seen combat. That's why today, the US military seems to be shifting to suppressors for frontline infantry. It's still loud but better than deafening loud.
      I think in this situation, they didn't bring suppressed weapons because they were hoping to not getting into a shoot out

    My thing is how they landed that helicopter... By all means, the moment they lost that tail rotor, that was it, they could not possibly control that aircraft as well as they portrayed it. Ignoring the member jumping out of the cargo hook hold. How the "professional" pilot handled the aircraft was, actually, dog shit. He should've known to cut all fuel off before hitting dirt, turn off the engines and let the main rotor freewheel and let the main and tail landing gears take the G-Force landing. Considering its a Russian model Mi-8, it was more than capable of passing through the mountain pass too with the load it was carrying (which, considering it was hundred dollar bills, was relatively light compared to having 20's, 10's or even 1's), and if I were to apply the same standard of 32 G's of full actuation on a Black Hawk's dual stage main and tail landing gears, I wouldn't doubt that the Mi-8's could handle that, if not more considering that its a troop transport AND gunship.
    More importantly, it seems that, if we are accounting for the multiple "hops" it made during its crash, either the pilot or the copilot were grabbing the collective and ramming it up each time, which means they were increasing the rpm of the main rotor, which was preventing them from staying on the friggin' ground.
    The whole scene kind of rattled me because they did everything you're NOT supposed to do in a crash landing sequence.

    I would think a good downpour would give you many potential advantages. Ambient noise to help conceal your own movement is the biggest one, though. Tracking won't be as effective if you're concerned about being hunted. Also, if you're uncomfortable and used to being uncomfortable through training, there's a good possibility the opposition is also uncomfortable, but may be more averse to it, meaning they perform poorly. They may also abandon their post altogether to seek shelter, leaving gaps in security. Also if for whatever reason you're concerned about smells that are foreign to the environment, heavy rain will obscure them. Your enemy may also assume that you consider foul weather a deterrent, meaning it's the perfect time to act. But I'm just some guy on the internet spitballing.

    Please react to the Siege of Jadotville. Best war movie on Netflix, and probably an interesting case study also. If you haven't seen it, it involves conventional line infantry without big-army support, conducting a defensive action against a numerically superior mixture of contractors and indigenous forces, and also looks at how politics can influence military operations. I figured you'd probably have a lot to say about it.

    newer vehicles are lighter due to fuel economy, so they won't stop military grade rounds like they used to--some LS engines are aluminum blocks. As for a building takedown, you drop in from the top so your opponents feel there's an exit and don't fight cornered--but they run down onto the street and into your second squad. Suppressors trap the gases released by round discharge so they don't run into the wall of air outside the barrel at supersonic speed, but they don't slow down the rounds to subsonic speeds like a silencer. The comment on the fire is spot-on, you cuddle up for body warmth (but of course it's not macho for movies), but yeah the AR comment drops the ball.

    I had to watch the movie in bits and pieces. Because they did the commando community dirty. I only went as far as MEPS, but I was raised by a senior AF NCO, and even I know you would have some kind if contingency plan. Like safe houses you could go to if the hit went wrong, and people who might covertly take you out of the country while you're being hunted. And once they realized they had more money than the chopper could lift, they should have just asked their aviation contact for another bird. For one thing, the place they took off from should have been a relatively safe place for them to hunker down for a couple days, and for another, I'm pretty sure spec ops types are going to want bush planes to fly them out of country rather than a heavy chopper, which is way too conspicuous. The military even uses the kinds of small two engine bush planes that smugglers use, but more high tech. And they hire contractors who fly exactly the same kinds of planes as smugglers. All the post heist drama was stupid and unbelievable.
