    I had sciatica 4 years ago for the first time .When i went to the docter he told me its a muscle i snapped.I couldnt walk for 4 months and was in severe pain I was 36 years old back than but I can tell you i was crying because i couldnt even hold a plate of food in my hand.I went for dry needling and that helped but I was also persistant and stretching and moving my body.Believe me I overdosed on pain medication and nothing would help but things eventually got better.As im typing this I had another episode with sciatica and it is only this time when i did some research only to find out that it is my sciatic nerve that is so to speak pinching against my piriformis muscle.I never knew this until now and i dont know why the docter 4 years ago also didnt know or was he just lying to me lol .I am now recovering and taking vitamin D and Vitamin B and magnesium and eating better doing stretches daily and Im getting better day by day and oh yes what caused my sciatica was all due to stiff clutch when driving.I hope everyone suffering from sciatica a speedy recovery.There is light at the at the end of the tunnel.

      HI there Thank u so much for your spot on videos you truly are a God send. I don't start PT for 2 weeks but What exercises can I do for getting over time improved range of motion in my Right knee I've been doing the rocking exercise and I have decreases range of motion in my right knee area I can only bend back when on hands and knees not even half way it's like something is stopping my knee from bending back. My left knee can rest back on my feet but my right one where has sciatica can not. What wud be your recommendations please??

      Thanks for this video, very informative. I have sciatica since 2019 and I had therapy but didn’t finish all 9 sessions, only 6 sessions because covid 19 pandemic came and I was afraid to go to the clinic, so I stopped, but continued to do the stretching exercises they taught me at home. I was good for a while, on and off pains but it’s tolerable. Now, it came back and search ways to know more about sciatica and found this video of yours, I am so grateful to you. Thank you and may you continue to share your knowledge to us who are in pains, the right way to do to alleviate the pains. ❤

    Thank you!!! I am older and have a lot of joint issues and lately have been really suffering from sciatica. I do go to physical therapy and they’re trying to help help me strengthen my body and I know that in the end that’s the answer I need. But in the short run, I’m taking way too many pain pills to get through this and I think this is a much better option for me.

      Try a "split saddle cushion" ...it helped for my sciatica within a day. Also ice - not heat.

      I found out that my sciatica problem was due to a hip bone and Bone, so I going to have the surgery on the 7/16/24 I pray and you guys pray please 🙏 thank you I love all you guys. Blessings. I'm not a religious person but the pain is!

      I had L4 bending at 1st degree due to pull rest, Gabapin pain reliever, cold hot therapy and Kegel exercises helped me a lot a phisio therapist told to use butter knife to relieve pain by pressing and massaging helped too lower leg pain relieved. now I'll try way as still I have some pain in upper side thigh ..

    I appreciate your expertise! Sciatica pain is so annoying,, disruptive and painful. Until I came upon your posts I only ever tried stretches commonly found on UA-cam. Now I don't do stretching thanks to you. I notice on all your posts the blue box follows the closed caption words. if the purpose is to help the hearing impaired I understand.     I never knew how painful sciatica can be until now It must be be the most debilitating pain especially when I have so much to do and can’t rest and taking care of a sick husband

    Thanks for this great self help video. Im currently see a chiropractor who is doing some of that massage on me after she does "inflection"? Therapy on the coach which entails stretching my body as the bottom half of couch lowers. I am making good progress but wish I'd seen this first all those weeks ago when I was in agony and couldn't sleep for the pain. Now the pain is reduced, muscles more relaxed but I still get parathesia in my outer left two toes especially after sitting. Going to try some of this between treatments. Thanks again.

    Hello! I have an herniated disc L5 S1 from march this year. I had osciliationson the evolution of it, but never pain on buttok, only pain on heel of the right leg.
    From a week ago, i have made an exercise as I raised my right leg up and now i'm having strong pain on buttok and i don't know how to do, which exercises to make further. I cannot strengh the glutes muscles because it crrates pain, as well as when i am staying on chair it creates pain. What do you recommand me to do? Thanks a lot!!❤

    What about doing tennis ball under glutes? Or maybe quadratus labortum? I have herniared disc l5s1 with left side sciatica. That piriformis is super super tight orange hot ball. I want to melt it to purple and spreaf it out. But not sure if tennis ball is too much. I like using the tennis ball for my shoulders and sometimes my hip flexors but not sure this is safe with herniared disc

      I would be concerned about tennis ball under glutes if you are on the floor. You see, it would through off your pelvic alignment - putting increased stress on those discs. You could try it up against the wall. Make sure you maintain a neutral pelvis so you don't overstress those discs!

      Hmmmm...that's a touch one. It can be helpful to relieve tension but it can increase inflammation which may make your pain increase. I think it really depends on how hot your symptoms are.

    I like massage gun on peoas and hip flexor. I think piriformous gets overworked when psoas is tight.

    Thank you I have l4 l5 herniated discs and l3 and S1 bulging I been stiff tight and burning in spine for 6 months physical therapy didn't help this time. Should I stop stretching and exercising?
    I will try this. Im desperate to heal scheduled for injection.

      This self massage should be helpful for you but make sure to listen to your body. Start with gentle massage and increase pressure if it feels like your body needs it.

      If massaging the area reproduces your sciatica then proceed with caution. However, if the tender spot feels better AFTER you massage it then keep going.

      I had to look that one up! :) I think in English it is surgery. I prefer to use non-surgical techniques but you should consult with a local professional to understand more about the options that are best for your body!

    I have had an ACDF and Laminectomy and fusion on.my.lumbar spine.The sciatic pain I am getting now 18mnths post op.is excruciating. Will the massages help?

    I seem to recall from another one of your vids..that the sciatic nerve does not like massage..or stretching..am l mistaken..🇨🇦

      You are not mistaken! This video shows how to massage the muscles around the sciatic nerve but not the nerve directly. You are correct - the nerve itself does not like the pressure of massage!

      Yes, especially abdominal weight because it pulls on the low back.

    I had sicitia for 4 months pain was awful couldn't get any relief even injections didn't help it was so severe I lost the feeling in my left foot which is numb I feel bad for anyone who suffers from it

      I am so sorry to hear that. Have you tried lying on an ice pack to see if that helps you get to sleep?

      I am the same right now no relief sitting, standing , sleeping can't put on socks & shoes on left side pain fr lower back to outside hip down below knee & sometimes down to foot arch area ? I'll try anything but some of the stretches they suggest is almost impossible. to do I would need assistance then I would just take the pain but no way can do jt self maybe the hand massage poss.
      But I'll see what happens Take Care peeps..m

      Mine has settled down now I had massage and dry needles
      It was worse for about a week then I have a small massage chair I used it and now have a lot less pain and sleeping at last I think the best thing is rest hope you’re feeling better soon

    I know it’s best to move. But my leg is that weak and the pain unbearable I can’t put one foot in front of the other unless my knee buckles and I fall.
    This is my 5th day. Iv been following UA-cam for exercise to do in bed.
    I had about of sciatica around ten yrs ago and much worse then what I’m experiencing now.
    Both legs were numb for 11 days and I was in a right fix. I have physio therapy next week so hoping this will help get me walking again and help control the weakness in my knee.

    Massage doesn't work. Had sciatica problem before I do stretching, and it helps.

    I think it is much much better if you show the actual area with out cover so we can actually see where or which of those lumbar area you massage whether it be L3, L4 or L5 so no guessing

      Ahhhh...yes. You might benefit from using a tennis or racquetball to massage. Just be careful to not apply too much pressure.
