I am a 70 year old female. Malaysia. I had sciatica pains and these healed me. Prayers and acupuncture. You need at least 4 (45-minute) sessions for this to work. One week apart and in 4 weeks, I am fully pain-free. That’s how acupunctures work. Slow but sure. So glad.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s wonderful to see how acupuncture and prayers have worked together for you. Your story may inspire others to seek healing too!
I came across this video. I have been suffering for 3 months now. I am 65yrs of age. This is the worst experience of pain , besides fibromyalgia. I tried many things. I get relief for a few hours then pain starts all over again at any time. I have no social life and going into depression. I will try this, and I'm hopeful I will be pain-free soon. Thank you for sharing this video. 🎉
So much conflicting advice on this topic - all from "experts", "Dr.'s", professionals, etc. Why isn't there a clear answer? One says to stretch the side hurting, another says only stretch the opposite side. One says don't use ice, the other says only use heat while another says use both! WTF?!
@@victorgold4735 if you watch the video again you can clearly hear that she is referring only when you are into the very first days of having the sciatica, later on, after you've rest a few days and walk better you could do stretchers.
I don’t trust any of them because none of these people actually have sciatica. I tried an exercise yesterday and the pain just multipled. I’m reporting all these videos as scams
I had to watch this again. I got a scan yesterday and walked around the shops thinking I was doing good to keep moving but now watching again I can't walk it out unless I'm walking properly. Waking up in mornings is so painful, just rest today. Thank you again, I should of took notes. 🙏
Best advise. I have back problem and had 2 surgeries, Now I am having a sciatica again and I didn't know what to do , I tried a lot of different exercise to help reduce the pain for the past 3 days. Now I realized that the more I do the bending back ward and stretching the back and legs the more pain that I have. Now I learned that I should have let it be alone to heal itself. Then I watched your clip , I agree with you 100%. Everything you said on that clip is true.I wished I that I watched your clip before I watched others and did a lot bending and stretching. Thank you for your advise. I am using ice pack now to reduce the swelling. Thanks millions.
@PT4Everybody just got a recent flare up and this is probably the most excruciating episode I've had yet. Couldn't even walk this Morning, painful, numbness & tingling while sitting so all I can do is lay on my stomach to get some kind of relief. What about BioFreeze? Is that ok to rub on the lower back and legs.... I work from home and the Biofreeze kinds of numbs and gives that menthol cool feeling to give a small break from the pain 😢

I did all the exercises I could find on you tube yesterday then put a heat pack on and went to bed. Couldn't get out of bed this morning in so much pain. Wish I had seen this clip. Thank you.
@@PT4Everybody it might sound creepy, but spread the word that tightening your buttocks when sitting in a firm chair will help strengthen the pelvic area and lessen your dependence on your thighs when pushing yourself up to stand. Heard it from some other guru and it’s incredible how I am improving.-not an instant cure, but anybody who suffering will know every little bit helps🎉😊❤
Wow! I'm glad I found this. I recently had a flare up that crippled me for two weeks. Several weeks before the flare up I was seeing a PT to address tightness in my hamstrings. We started some stretching routines which helped my hamstrings, but the end result was the worst flare up I've ever had of sciatica. I was using heat to ease pain and just tried ice minimally. While ice seemed to help I wasn't sure which one to use. Now I know. I am seeking an expert in my area because I don't want to endure this pain ever again.
Yes! Your bold honest approach is exactly what we need. 2 questions: Where do we apply the ice/cold pack? How do seniors or overweight people manage what is inflexible?
Great questions! 1) Apply ice to the area that hurts. And, yes, you can use it to "chase" the pain. 2) If you are someone who has difficulty with flexibility doing some aquatic therapy or getting into a pool can be very helpful.
Thank you so much. I'd been getting worse with hot showers, yoga and stretching. Saw this video. Tried applying ice periodically and resting. That helped immediately. Much more manageable now, a week later. A thousand Thank Yous!
I've been struggling with sciatica and piriformis issues for a couple of years now. It gets extremely bad and I struggle to find any kind of relief. I can't even lay down in bed without getting pain. I'm grateful to find any information that might help.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It takes courage to talk about these struggles, and I truly hope the tips in the video offer you some comfort and relief.
I've been in pain almost the entire month of July and 3 days ago I just stopped stretching and today was remarkably better. I may still see the orthopedic doctor referred by my chiropractor. Thank you for this awesome video.
Me too, been having awful piriformis syndrome symptoms. Been using heat pad, stretching and when I lie down, in every position but on my stomach, I am miserable. I dread bedtime because it is not restful. I will ditch the heat and try the other advice here.
The stretching reminds me of the MRI where the tech locked my head then pulled hard on my feet, which was extreme pain. Having all 3 big nerves in each leg playing up at the same time is no fun. I have 2 discs bulging (L4 & L5) plus unstable S-I joints. I find that bringing my feet together while on my back and allow my legs to relax and fall open for as long as possible is very helpful.
Omg thank you for all this info. This is my first experience with Sciatic pain, and my heart goes out to all of you suffering. Sciatic pain has been a learning curve in observing my habits, posture, bending over improperly and well as the stress of prolonged standing and sitting and not enough movement. I found the advice of other UA-cam videos to be more harmful., lol. When I found your video 🙏, my body had adopted what you were talking about. Our body is always talking to us and if we can listen deeply it will tell us what to do, in that, less is more. I have learned how to roll in and out of bed with the support of my arms along the way. I sit in a very supportive rocking chair when the pain is telling me to relax, I place a heating pad on my back for 5 min, and bring my affected leg to my chest with my heel on the seat, for a deep stretch and breath deeply. This works for me! I have found out that massaging around my naval and then directly behind my naval -my back- like you explain in the video helps enormously . I have learnt that walking and breathing deeply into to pain helps me as well. I have learnt that I must still move gently respecting our limits and understand how I got here. Less is more. I have found that taking Advanced Sciatic Nerve Support as well as Pamidrol, magnisium along with LUMINALOE Nutrition really helps. At the end of the day when my body is tired and is hurting along comes 1 Advil and at bed time 1 Tylenol. I hope that sharing some of my info will help others as this SCIATIC PAIN IS DEBILITAING. Thank you so much🙏
I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and insights! It means a lot to know that the video has helped you find some relief. Your tips will surely help others in the same situation!
I tell you I was working hard and after a feelt pain i cried 3 days and i didnt sleep 7 because of pain , and al people and doctors said i will newer work and heal , i go to hospital and they did nothyng to me , they sent me to a expert with 100 Euro pro hour , , . I decide to go nowere and i prayed to Jesus , in tree days i was working hard but carfully again , and since 3 monts i work , i fell some nombnes some times but i trust in Jesus and i no he will heal me fo good , by the way 3 days ago i was climing 20 km in Mountains , and i got not tired (2km/hour)
My sciatica that has been torturing me for a month, started easing yesterday and today it's less than half of what it was last week. I quit all those stretches. Instead I choose to not worry. Live with it for now. Walk with a corrected posture (that gives me a natural curve on lumbar spine), and I ground a lot. I sleep on a grounded sheet. Every morning I meditate grounded too in the garden. These are WORKING!
OMG I am glad I found you on u - tube, now I understand much better about Sciatica, I am having problem since couple years, it does not go away, from u-tube I learn some exercise and I try to do but it does not help. It is kind a no win situation. From now I am going to listen your video and learn more about it . Thank you very much. My name is Pratima
You've explained why my sciatic flare-up was not responding to the stretches recommended by my physiotherapist. Instead I decided to rest more and take short walks which eased the symptoms after a few days.
I'm in constant pain even sitting still. Two weeks of thus. Having a CT scan tomorrow and hope they can give me a corticosteroid shot asap. With blood thinners I can't just get a shot of Teradol. I've been moving as much as I can. But it hurts so much.
This is so true. Stretching exercises don’t help during flare-ups. My doctor recommended some exercises, and I kept at them, but the pain persisted. Finally, out of frustration, I decided to stop altogether. Within a day, my symptoms improved.
I’m on day 3 with sciatica and it’s the worst pain I have ever felt in my entire life! It hurts worse than labor contractions. I was watching videos by professionals just like everyone else looking for relief. I was heating and stretching with no relief. I will stop that now and try your suggestions. I need some relief from this pain, it is diminishing my quality of life.
I know exactly what you mean it is the worst pain in my life my body had got stiff as a lol board I been stretching for almost a wk and I feel a lot better I couldn't hardly sit down it had got to the point I needed a walk in shower lol
I have been in Sciatic nerve pain for weeks. I got my cortizone shot a week ago and the pain got worst, which is expected. I'm still recovering and praying that the pain goes down more as the days go by. I have people telling me to do this or do that or stretch this or stretch that. My gut always told me to not do it. Came across your video today and you confirmed it for me. Thank you. ❤
This is absolutely first class advice. I know this because I have had sciatic problems for many years and it flairs up from time to time and has done right now which is how I discovered your video! It is 3 days now since it started and I have been wearing heat pads over where the epicentre of the pain is which is around the piriformis, although it is going right down my left leg. Despite the temporary relief from the pads, I have been unable for 3 days to get out of bed in the morning. despite wearing the pads all night, without excruciating pain. (I have some mildish discomfort around the left hip all year round when getting out of bed.) Yesterday and today, however, by keeping moving gently, the pain has subsided as the day wore on and becomes manageable with a walking stick until of course the following morning. I also made the mistake of following NHS advice (here in the UK) to do the exercises which made things a whole lot worse. The problem I have is that at 75, I still run with my dog and cycle a lot up steep hills, neither of which are possible right now, nor is driving. Since what I have done previously has not worked, I shall follow your advice, which, in addition to the medical advice, makes sound common sense. Thank you.
I have the same pain and was advised to do the piriformis syndrome exercises. I have L4-L5 disc bulge. I am not sure now if that is really the way to go.
@@rkgsd better to have MRI. I am now on my 8th session doing the piriformis exercise. There are positive changes but I still get that pain when I bend down or every morning in getting up from bed.
Bless your beautiful soul❣️ I’m dealing with my second flare up. I thought the first one was bad, but I’m completely immobile‼️ The pain I’m in is OFF THE CHARTS‼️I’m only 53 years old. 🥺 I thought I would have nothing but back surgeries my whole life now. Thank you, thank you, thank you❣️❣️
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It takes a lot of courage to open up about pain, and I’m sending you all my positive vibes for a swift recovery.
Well said. I have a cousin who had the surgery to remove a damaged disc in his lower back and almost lost his life and mobility due to the surgery done by a very reputable surgeon.
Sciatica, either caused by lower back issues or piriformis weakness does not like high levels of sugar in your blood interfering with the healing process. I do a low carb diet reset and while on non prescribed pain killer try to do little of strength exercises, also supplements B complex in case of myelin wearing off.
Don’t you just get sick to death of the same bla-bla-bla. When your experiencing severe pain from your back, hip, or thigh, or all of the above simultaneously. And if you’re no novice to this situation. As sciatica has it’s own way of raising its bloody-ugly head from time to time. Our first determination through years of self-diagnosis is that it’s primarily caused by compression of our lumbar disc’s in our spine. Which theoretically pinches the sciatic nerve. Knowing what is obviously stating the bleeding obvious. And hearing it from someone who only knows the scientific theory behind the pain caused by the inflammation of this occurrence, doesn’t help either. And there was no mention anywhere about the long-term effects of injury. Or in my case the effects of being diagnosed with Tuberculosis as a teenager, which left my spine looking like the top of an old-desecrated castle’s long-gone battlement walls. Subjected to many wars and many years of weathering. And as ice-treatment, I find that the cold weather only assipate’s my condition?
Good to hear. Two days ago, I strained my muscle making an awkward body angle, and snap, a sudden pain from my hip. The pain, shooting bits and twinges, has been a fixture. I couldn't sleep the first night. Today I went on the internet and tried the ice and warm compress (because it helps absorb castor oil) but mostly i stuck with the cold one. I went about doing my daily chores because frankly, a problem like this cannot stop me from being up and about. I will be so bored if all I did was rest. I listened to my body, though. When i felt tired standing up, i would sit, though every getting up was terrible. I have found some acupressure info and it does help with the pain, even if temporarily. I will definitely fight this out as I don't like being with any type of illness. Acupuncture appeals to me as the best resort, if ever. What you have shared is important info because it is logical.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s always great to hear how others are navigating their challenges. Your determination is inspiring, and I hope you find relief soon!
You are exactly right. Sciatica appeared 4 days ago. Don’t know what I did or how, but it is very painful and limiting for an active person. I did some stretches last night before bed, thinking that would help, and woke up worse than ever. Sounds like more rest is in order for now. Very thankful that standing is not painful, so much activity is still possible, like canning the garden harvest that is coming in gangbusters! Thanks for all the tips! You are so appreciated! Will watch the next video also.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad to hear you found the tips helpful. Wishing you a speedy recovery-enjoy that bountiful harvest while taking care of yourself!
Sciatica or not hubby and I always use heat pad on our backs with some ibuprofen and it always works. The pain is usually gone the next day. I have L4/L5 anterolisthesis which causes pain and tingling in my right lower leg and foot. My low back is okay and aches occasionally when I’m overdoing with activities but the main problem is my leg pain when I get out of bed and step on the floor. I do stretches etc. and finally it may go away after an hour or so. Then I can function the rest of the day and even walk for 2-3 miles. If the pain comes back all I do is bend over touch my toes straighten up and then I’m good for another hour. The pain is bearable or sometimes isn’t even there but this whole ordeal is just so aggravating and depressing. I started PT but it makes it more painful. I try to stick with it and see how it goes. Thank you for this video.
Wow, sounds like a lot to deal with! But hey, if the heat pad and ibuprofen are your go-to combo, keep rocking it! Just remember to take it easy and listen to your body. You've got this!
I highly recommend seeing a Physical Therapist and they will guide you on the proper exercises. It worked for me. My pain level was a10 after 2 months went from hardly walking to walking before Sciatica pain had set in🙏❤
The symptoms I experience are right exactly what I feel sciatica pain mild exercises and acupressure points therapy help to lessen sciatica pain thank you so much God bless ✨
Thank you for your advice so very much ! is different from other videos I’ve seen, but my results are far better now. I’ve been doing better ever since !!!!
Thank you!! I have been in pain for a year and a half. I am about to get my second spine epidural in January. I am so frustrated with being in so much pain, not being able to sleep, not being able to sit for concerts/ movies. I have been doing physical therapy and everything the doctors tell me to do like lose weight but, nothing seems to work!!! I'm at my wits end!!
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It's important to talk about these struggles, and I truly admire your determination. Wishing you all the best for your upcoming epidural!
I would love to make a video to help explain this. Can you clarify - do you have front of the thigh pain alone or in combination with sciatica symptoms?
Pain originates right in upper back pelvic area. Pain Skipping to area of knee and front of leg below knee down to foot. Feels like intense icecream headache but lower front of leg. Toes get numb
I totally agree to this, my husband has been suffering from this brutal pain of sciatica he did stretching, hot compress, exercises and lot that judt worsened the pain. Then he tried doing all the opposites like rest, ice cold compress, enough movement, takes vit b complex he’s gradually feeling better now.
Thank you for sharing your husband's journey! It's so important to explore different methods for relief, and I'm happy to hear he's on the mend. Wishing him all the best!
This is great information and explained very well. I can walk with no pain and even stand for a while - my problem is sitting for any amount of time, even 10-15 minutes. My butt and hips really begin to hurt on the left side. I've done research on exercises to help with this, but it seems one PT says one thing and the next PT says the exact opposite re: exercises. I have mild scoliosis that has probably caused a herniated disc - not sure. No MRI yet because I know if I try to get one it's a big insurance hassle AND the dr will insist on surgery I'm sure. I've been going to a chiropractor, and it has helped for sure. This may just be something I have to learn to live with??? Thanks for your channel!
I would ask your chiropractor if they think you have a pelvic malalignment issue. This might affect your sitting. And, hopefully, they can recommend a cushion or modification for your sitting that will ease your pain.
This is exactly what I’m going through. Sitting is horrible if I’m in the car or a straight chair. Usually, in less than a minute the nerve pain starts. Recently found out there is mild levoscoliosis from an X-ray. Got MRI, all 5 lumbar and s1 have varying degree bulging, spinal stenosis and other nerve impingement at faucet. I am really able just about everything but sit in butt. ** BTW, research self pay MRI, I got rather inexpensive due to an insurance issue.
Thank you for the don'ts. My sciatica started after getting massage once a week to help with hamstring issues caused by total knee replacement surgery. I have weak right leg as I avoided TKR surgery for 12 years and finally did the TKR as avoid hip damage from walking off balance. So now I need help with Sciatica and in the long run strengthen my leg muscles and get flexibility in my knee (already have 120° bend and can take stairs). Help with Sciatica pain that keeps me up. Thank you, Yatri Shukla
Thank you for opening up about your experience, Yatri. Your determination to work through these challenges is truly inspiring. I wish you the best on your path to recovery and strength!
Im not saying you r wrong, you r right but it may not work for EVERYONE… different people responded differently and that may be for many reasons. Some ppl may hv other underlying health or chronic issues so whatever options that works best for them may not work for others. In my case i now know how and why it happen to me only now. Tq anyway for the info
What an excellent video, so happy I found you, I'll be listening to your entire playlist on sciatica. I've had 2 bad attacks of sciatica last 2 weeks. My situation is quite complicated, ad I have 16 pins and screws in my lower lumbar and thorasic spine fused, and the sciatic nerve runs through an artificial hip done 6 years ago. Luckily both bouts of the attack subsided by the next day but it was so debilitating that my entire leg went numb and I couldn't bear any weight on the effected side. I'm getting xrays on my hip tomorrow and see the surgeon who did the artificial hip next week. In the meantime your video has been spot on and I just know the playlist will be of help. Thank you!
I truly appreciate your support and am grateful that my content could assist you in some way. Wishing you a speedy recovery and successful appointments!
Love your advice 😊I have the inflammation for nearly 3 months. Feel like I have 3 issues at the same time. Sometimes it settles but later it comes back. I feel lost because I don’t know what exercise to start 😢
I just watched a video by another doctor and she said the exact opposite of what you said. All these conflicting opponions from assumed professionals are why the internet should not be your go-to when you are facing health issues
I tend to agree with the majority of comments. I had a procedure done in 2019 on my right hip to relieve the pressure off a pinched nerve. It resurfaced not too long ago and the exercises I've seen does not work. I shall follow your advise and thank you for this informative information.
Right I’ve watched so many videos on it won’t nobody really tell the truth cause everybody is different. Your health has a part of it also plus smoking cigarettes but ain’t nobody talking bout that. All these just want the views type of people. We out here really hurting with this problem.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! I have been in an almost unbearable amount of pain for 1 week having my first episode of sciatica after being diagnosed with radiculopathy and polyneuropathy and I have been doing all of the stretching, yoga video exercises on UA-cam and they’ve only made the pain worse. The next video I Will be watching will be your exercises for sciatica video! This pain is unrelenting and I am determined to do anything it takes to get rid of it for the long term (No surgeries for me, thank you, lol!).
Now I know why after 2 weeks of dealing with sciatic pain it has only become worse. It's my first time dealing with this and it has been awful. While I did not stretch things in the beginning, thank God, other videos say to switch between ice and heat. I stopped using heat at all because it made my pain start throbbing, now I know why. Thank you for this informative video. I'm going to change things up and see if I can finally be rid of this awful pain.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm really glad the video helped shed some light on your situation. Remember, it's all about finding what works best for you. Wishing you all the best on your journey to recovery!
@@marishine9104 Same here. I'm getting a bit depressed from it because I can't do anything. I don't have insurance either so going to a doctor is out of the question. Walking anywhere is excruciating and exhausting. I'm going on almost a month and a half of this and not sure how much more I can take. I hope you can find relief. Thank you for responding. Maybe we need to start a sciatica pain support group. Lol.
So glad to have found your advice. I did all the things that you asked to avoid , it made the symptom getting worse. I ‘ll try out your advice. Thanks🙏🙏
Thank you! Best I have read. Started 5 days ago and has gotten worse each day because I tried to stretch a little instead of letting it relax. Thank you so much
Thank you for your kind words! I'm really happy to hear that the advice has resonated with you. Take it slow, and you'll be on the road to recovery in no time!
Good advice. I wasn't sure if I should be stretching. Right now I'm bedridden but it's only day 2 . I should just be resting right now and that is what feel best. I can barely get to the bathroom without extreme pain.
I have problem with L4 and L5 and having severe pain in my both legs. Last year numbness started in my right leg and now I have in both my legs. And I also have tingling in my feet and burning sensation in my right leg up to knee region. I was not knowing that I should not give heat treatment and am doing physical therapy. Because of numbness I am loosing balance and cannot move. Please advise me
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your video. I've been dealing with back issue's for many year's had a wonderful chiropractor that kept me pain free when we lived in the US and didn't believe in surgery or medication. She was big in the body being able to heal itself. Now I'm removed from her and in constant daily pain in the lower back, hips, radiating pain and numbness in thigh and after a MRI the doctor wants to perform a Radiofrequency Ablation for pain management. What are your thoughts on this procedure. I'm hesitant. I also treated my issue wrong with heat. So thank you so much for your video!
I am so sorry that you are separated from your wonderful chiropractor. None of my patients have had Radiofrequency Ablation so I don't have direct experience but the concept behind the procedure makes sense to me. Since you know what a good chiropractor looks like, any chance you can find one near you? If not, the ablation might work for a bit to ease your symptoms. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!
I am so glad I saw this. I have had sciatica for a year now but it is not as bad as it was initially. It is due to the disc putting pressure on the nerve. I have been hesitant about surgery because I don’t want to trade one problem for another. This is great advice. I am one who has looked at sooo many videos.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm so happy to hear that the advice resonated with you. It's great to know that these videos can make a difference for someone dealing with sciatica.
Is it okay to use roll on cold therapy solutions ? Your absolutely right what you say about heat, my sciatica is getting worse especially in the coccyx area. I've been applying heat microwave bags to the lumber area to no affect. Have been prscribed Palexia from Gp just to take the edge of the pain away and told I need at least 3 weeks bed rest ! I have also gone back to swimming after 15 years away from it, to hopefully strengthen my lower back, also using a hip flotation pad, Peter in Ireland.
Hi Peter! I prefer an ice pack for cold therapy. And, I love that you have gone back to swimming! Good for you and best of luck on your healing journey!
I agree with your comment about not stretching backwards during initial sciatica pain. Someone sent me a video recommending this, and I ended up with a sharp pain and worsened symptoms that have stayed with me for a week till now
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s always helpful to learn from each other and find what truly works for our bodies. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
My doctor said that be active plus for the legs would help sciatic if it gos from the back part of the hip to the knee. That it could ease the pain a little bit so I could walk a little bit better. What do you think about this 🤔
I am in severe pain. I’ve had symptoms for over six weeks chronic pain. What is your advice? Obviously the issue is my back. Thank you for your video. Very informative.
Thank you for this information. I’ve been experiencing more nerve pain after stretching and exercising and everything that is said in the video about what not to do and the effects thereof is exactly what I’ve experienced. Thank you soo much for this information. Wish I had seen it before following other advice on UA-cam
Thank you for your kind words! I’m so pleased that the information resonated with you. Your health is a priority, and I'm glad you're finding the right advice now!
This- after taking the wrong road and hoping for the best is the best advice I have found. Still weak and unable to walk well, the ER launched me without a specialist. Under the guise of Prednisone - the feel good steroid is an anchor- though it feels super human at the time...well, some Drs need to stop the ego and use CARE. Thank you & God bless you ! WC
Thank you for sharing your story and for your kind words! It means a lot to hear that my advice resonates with you. Wishing you all the best in your recovery!
This is excellent advice and exactly what I want to hear. My sciatic pain was unbearable and I’m now on medication to calm down the inflammation. I had surgery 5 months ago, on my spine and the surgeon wanted to operate again, a few days after my operation and I refused which I do not regret. My understanding is that with Cauda Equina it is a long term healing process of up to two years. Happy days!
Thank you for sharing your journey with us! Your strength and determination are inspiring. I’m so glad the advice is helping you on your road to recovery!
I appreciate very much the way you presented it and the context. May I ask for your advice and explanation on post traumatic pain following a sliding fall on a hard srface (no fracture, no bruise but weak knee to give support) while bathing.
I am a month in. ER and primary doc said hip and Endro doc said pinched nerve after xrays are perfect. Have been putting heat. Gonna watch your other video. Thx for the info
I have HNP and have a chronic lower back pain. Recently, I was hospitalized for being unable to walk. I was diagnosed with neural foraminal stenosis which I am now understanding as different from sciatica? I'm now undergoing therapy and have been told to stretch for the first set of sessions.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s important for others to know they’re not alone in this journey. Wishing you the best as you work through your therapy!
I’ve been in miserable pain for 2 weeks. I did do the Cobra & Wall Glide extensions right away and wished I hadn’t. I have been walking a little everyday but I’ll start icing instead of the heat. I have L4, L5 & S1 problems according to X-rays.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It takes courage to open up about pain, and I hope you find relief soon. Remember to listen to your body and take care of yourself!
Wow, thanks for your vdo. I am having sciatic nerve right now and been doing the stretches according to other vdos to no avail. I am going to rest and see if it's better.
certainly agree with NO stretching. It's been 6 days and I finally did stretching I found online to get the "immediate" relief. the day of stretching was by far the most painful day/night. pain was going all the way down my leg and my lower leg was going numb. now I have to try to relax and see if the inflammation goes away. great video. wish I saw this one first.
Hi there, your description doesn’t state your qualifications. Could you please update us on these and if you are registered as a health professional? Thank you
@ well that’s a professional answer and most welcome. I have a flattened lumbar spine and of course going up the chain my thoracic spine is flat and so is my neck. I have overactivation of quadratus lumborum. I have two herniated discs L5L4 and L5S1. I am 41 years old. I have a mild scoliosis is 20 degrees right thoracic and 10 degrees left lumbar. The herniated discs have flattened the spine further. I have done schroth method with not great results. How does one figure out if the scoliosis curves are fixed and stuck or shall we say structural?? I have been to chiro physio massages therapists reflexologists you name it and I have a fitness qualification but my health is deteriorating due to my flattened spine. Im trying to figure out if my muscles are just spasming to move the bulging discs away from spinal cord and perhaps no amount of exercise will solve my problem. My thoughts at this stage is to decompress my spine with fascia remodeling possibly done with assistance from the team known as functional patterns. Im honestly desperate and I have pain spasming and the need to click and release my spine all through the day and night. As a result I suffer from insomnia. I am a careworker and would love to hear your thoughts. My greatest thanks
Thank you so much for this. I just started getting the symptoms around a week ago. Of course, most of the advice on YT is against what you just said. Thank God I found you at my early stage. Earlier today, I just started doing extension exercise. I'll stop them now. Is there any way you provide online consulation?
What do I do for my lower back ,sciatic nerve, when I had a knee replacement on the same side? My knee replacement was June 4, 2024. I still have pain with that and now the left side of my back hurts. I had sciatica problems prior year 2022. I couldn’t walk. Had to go to ER in 2022.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s important to talk about these challenges, and I hope you find the right solutions for your pain. Wishing you a smooth recovery and better days ahead!
I've been having sciatic nerve pain on and off . .thank you for tips .my question??? what about the application of infrared light to the sciatic origin pain ? thanks in advance
Thank you for this very helpful info, my pain is in my lower left leg on the outside of my leg just above my ankle area, it is extremely painful whenever I try to stand or walk, do you have idea as to what this pain could be caused from, I've had this pain for many months, I'd appreciate any suggestions.
I had lower back pain for a few weeks, but it was bearable. I was doing some stretches that seemed to help alleviate the symptoms. Went to bed this week, woke up after 3 hours sleep, with sharp pains down the back of my right thigh. Very painful, now can't walk without limping although I do best to walk straight. I'm now sure it's sciatica based on further research as it has moved down to my calf and my foot is feeling numb. Since this happened the pain in my lower back has totally gone (or is it my body telling me the pain in my thigh is more severe so the back pain no longer registers?) I have had conflicting advice about heat/ice and rest/stretch. Sleeping is an issue. It's really hard to know what to do? I'll try icing the pain area (thigh mainly) and see how I get on. I'll leave the exercises until later.....
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s helpful for others to hear about the ups and downs of dealing with pain. I hope that icing helps you get some relief so you can get back to walking normally!
It’s a combination of heat & cold. Ice to reduce inflammation, but heat is important to get the blood flowing around. Heat allowed me to stop the numbness in my toe.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always great to hear how different methods work for others. Your insight might help someone else struggling with the same issue!
I wish i could see you in person. Like i said, i am recovering from a pulled muscle, sciatica, stenosis, arthritis and osteoporosis. Broke my legs 3 times before I was 18( abusive childhood) , then broke my acetabulum age 45, hip replacement at age 62. Now 5 years later. What can you recommend? Btw, use orthotics, an ultrasound machine, TENS.machine, take Fosamax and calcium. Too much ibuprofen.
I live on Long Island NY and this Winter ever time I got into the car to go to VA Hospital 45 minutes to hour or so I put the heated Seat ON !!! When I got to VA I had no Problems ! I question you Dr Status ??? 🤦🏼
I don't know why she responded like a bot, but here is the real answer, she said that when you use heat it feels good and alleviate the pain but only for a moment, wich in your case was good enough, but not when you want to reduce inflammation and end with the pain like in the case of the sciatica. So two different situations, two different solutions.
Chiropractic or massage therapy can be helpful depending on what the root of your sciatica issues are. In my biased opinion, I would find a good Manual Physical Therapist who can get to the root of your issue.
I feel so relax with your advice. Currently I am having acupressure therapy. I get pain relief. But not full. One nerve is constantly pinching right side of my lower back and the pain goes through front thigh to down. I trust you. Please suggest me your advice on this.
I have chronic sciatica and have been dealing with it for years. I had hip surgery about 5 years ago but don't think I had it before. Had x-rays on my back recently but was just told "sciatica ". I have not seen the radiologist's report because my regular dr ordered and I guess was sent to them. My question is my internist says I should go to therapy. I'm not sure it's the right thing. Right now I did a few things a couple of days ago with movements back and forth of wiping an area to dry it. As of today I can barely stand straight. Painful and I've been using heat, which you said no, but it does feel better. Also taking ibuprofen. My question is how do I find the cause of this terrible sciatica because I have not been told. Sorry for this long post but needing some relief. Thanks 😊
Thank you so much for your advis0e. I'm currently suffering from a very hot Sciatic nerv. I'm on Cortisone and strong pain medication - I was told to rest but to also do stretching...needless to say..the pain has not subsided any..I will now stop doing that, will follow your advice..so glad I found you!☆
Every word she spoke is so true it depends on each body is difference try out what really works for you , don't go for surgery, i hav siactic nerve issue from past 3 months on my right side i took a week rest , took Homeopathy medicine, tool Alopathy pain killer later consulted Neurologist after 15days i saw some videos & did mild strech, kept doing whichever work i could do i didn't long rest, then i was advised MRI SCAN, the reports told L5-S1 Mild grade I spondylolisthesis, L4-L5 Mild diffuse disc Bulge. I was suggested to wear Lumbar belt given 1month medication. Now i am feeling much better i am to do all the work ride my bike with the belt support. Long way to go i keep hearing to my body signals we many times tend to neglect. Keep watch on your daily activities adjust accordingly all will go well.
Hello, I just finished watching this video as i am home from work due to severe sciatica pain. I've actually been living with this current episode for the past six weeks which seems to be the longest I've ever experienced sciatica. I've been functioning with it only because I've been taking massive amounts of ibuprofen... Which i hate doing, but it's been helping me to bear through. Recent liver and kidney tests showed they were good atm so I'll quit as soon as the pain dissipates. Here's my issues and my questions for you. I do have two lower bulging discs, diagnosed ten yrs ago (I am about 100 lbs overweight, I'm 61 yo). I also have osteoarthritis on my low spine, hip and knee, all on right side. Mild neuropathy. I do not have diabetes nor pre. All my tests actually came out normal - i am dealing with EXTREME inflammation, which i attribute 100% of my problems to. Exercise and low inflammatory diet was helping me lose weight and feel great actually until the sciatica showed up. The thing that kept me home from work however was NOT all this pain, but the CALF pain that just came on the scene! It's killer pain, every step is a firey hot poker right in my calf muscle, similar to a Charley horse from hell that CANNOT be massaged away. Dr suggested cortisone shot to help me get relief so i can continue exercising (and working) and getting on with lowering my inflammation. What's your thoughts on cortisone shots? He suggested knee and hip, I'm thinking lower back but that makes me nervous- close to the spine. My other question is, is rebounding ok to do with bulging discs?? It's supposed to be good for the lymphatic system but some things I've read say not to do if you have a herniated disc. I'm interested only in the gentle bouncing. I also do walk in place for exercise (before sciatica hit), just as an FYI. I think that's everything! I look forward to binging your video playlist today when I'm home. Thank you for your time!
I believe the cortisone injection will help to relieve the extreme calf pain. It will give you a break so you can go back to all the helpful things you have been doing! And, great job with all the things you have been doing! Rebounder can be great for lymphatics! I think using it gently (once the sciatica flare is over) is fine for older bulging discs. I don't like the rebounder for anything acute due to the heavy inflammation.
@@PT4Everybody thank you so much for your suggestions, and encouragements. I think i will wait on the rebounder for now, at least until i can lose a significant amount of weigh so as not to put so much pressure on my joints and back. Thinking an elliptical will be less strain on my discs, but will continue with the indoor walking for now. Thank you again, i feel hopeful. 😊
Thank you this makes sense. I will try the cold instead of the best now. Are there any painkiller drugs for sciatica.l have been taking cocodomol for spinal stenosis but it doesn't help for sciatica
I haven't found a perfect drug for helping with sciatica pain. Most of the medication work on decreasing the muscle pain that is associated with sciatica.
I had sciatica symptoms over the summer but they were mild and so I thought I had muscle spasms going on. I've been using methocarbamol on and off to help with them. They got better for a while but yesterday I had a spike in the pain as well as seeing electricity in my mind's eye while experiencing the huge uptick in lighting striking pain radiating down my leg. I realized I am dealing with a sciatica flare up. My question to you is will using prednisone for pain management allow this flair up to heal or settle down? Or will using it only mask my pain and prolong my recovery? Many thanks for your wonderful video/.
Great question! Prednisone will help to decrease inflammation and calm down your current symptoms. Once that happens, you want to deal with the root issue that caused this problem in the first place
@PT4Everybody Thank you for your response. It's greatly appreciated. I have another question if that's okay. So, originally my pain was on the right side from the sciatica. Today, I experienced some shooting pain in the other left side calf. Along with some very, very mild burning. Is it possible to have the sciatica in both legs? Furthermore, can this type of new sciatica symptoms develop days after the initial flare up.
Thank you for sharing
I'm 66 n severe sciatica. I will try acupuncture next!! I've spent alot if monet now red light therapy. N chiropractic no help
I'll be damed if this is not the best information I have seen on UA-cam about this problem. This lady makes the most sense. Thank you

So much conflicting advice on this topic - all from "experts", "Dr.'s", professionals, etc. Why isn't there a clear answer? One says to stretch the side hurting, another says only stretch the opposite side. One says don't use ice, the other says only use heat while another says use both! WTF?!
I feel you, it's like a never-ending debate! Just do what works best for you and your body.
She said doesn’t like to be stretched so many times and there is a video from her top 5 stretchers for sciatica 😂😂😂…
They just don’t know.
@@victorgold4735CAN YOU READ?!😂
I had to watch this again. I got a scan yesterday and walked around the shops thinking I was doing good to keep moving but now watching again I can't walk it out unless I'm walking properly. Waking up in mornings is so painful, just rest today.
Thank you again, I should of took notes. 🙏
I'm glad the video was useful to you! Your support means a lot, and I appreciate you taking the time to watch it again.

I am so glad to hear you found an expert in your area to help you! Best of luck on your healing journey!
I was doing all the wrong things, especially heat pads, which caused heat rashes. Thank you...
Glad I could help!
Finally, someone who’s informative and knowledgeable and helpful on UA-cam, Thanks for this!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! It’s great to know that my efforts are making a difference for viewers like you!
Yes!
Your bold honest approach is exactly what we need.
2 questions:
Where do we apply the ice/cold pack?
How do seniors or overweight people manage what is inflexible?
Great questions! 1) Apply ice to the area that hurts. And, yes, you can use it to "chase" the pain. 2) If you are someone who has difficulty with flexibility doing some aquatic therapy or getting into a pool can be very helpful.
In my opinion your video on sciatica makes more sense than anything else I've heard or read before.
Your support means the world to me. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Thank you so much. I'd been getting worse with hot showers, yoga and stretching. Saw this video. Tried applying ice periodically and resting. That helped immediately. Much more manageable now, a week later. A thousand Thank Yous!

Please advise me soon
Thank you! I was obsessed with stretching and using heating pad and pain chronically worse! Taking all your advice, here!
Thank you for trusting my advice and I hope you find relief soon!
Thanks for sharing that great tip! I hope it can help others as well.

Hi Pratima! We are so glad you found us, too!

Thank you. ❤
Thank you for sharing your experience and for watching my video! Sending healing vibes your way.
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience and kind words. I hope the advice helps you find relief soon.
I have exactly the same thing going on. The mornings are so painful its excruciating pain.
I have the same pain and was advised to do the piriformis syndrome exercises. I have L4-L5 disc bulge. I am not sure now if that is really the way to go.
@@dodr788Similarly, a doctor said I had sciatica but a physical therapist recently said periformis. I'm going to request an MRI to check the discs.

Well said. I have a cousin who had the surgery to remove a damaged disc in his lower back and almost lost his life and mobility due to the surgery done by a very reputable surgeon.
Thank you for sharing your cousin's story. It’s a powerful reminder of the risks involved in surgery and the importance of advocating for our health.
How did he almost lose his life?
Sciatica, either caused by lower back issues or piriformis weakness does not like high levels of sugar in your blood interfering with the healing process. I do a low carb diet reset and while on non prescribed pain killer try to do little of strength exercises, also supplements B complex in case of myelin wearing off.
You are correct! Great points.
Fasting can also be very important for healing and reducing inflammation!
Hello. Where is the link for the best exercises to do with sciatica? Thank you!. 🙂
Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/VkcxNTpAYnY/v-deo.html
My pain level was a10 after 2 months went from hardly walking to walking before Sciatica pain had set in🙏❤
Wow, that's awesome progress! Thanks for sharing your success story.
After so much pain ... everything you told makes so much sense! Thank you a lot!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm honored that my message could help you during a tough time. It means a lot to me!

Thank you so much for your kind words! It truly means a lot to know that my content is helping you achieve better results. Keep shining!
Thanks much!! 🙏 for the wonderful advice!
Thank you for appreciating the advice, it means a lot!
So what does it mean if you have front thigh pain too?
I was about to ask this questions as well.
I also have front thigh pain but don't get an answer from anyone
I would love to make a video to help explain this. Can you clarify - do you have front of the thigh pain alone or in combination with sciatica symptoms?
@@PT4Everybody I have front thigh pain in combination with sciatica. Walking makes it more painful.
Thank you,
Yatri Shukla

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's tough when you're dealing with inflammation for so long.
Hi
Just pop up you video and I'm. Watching now
I have severe pain right now in my right leg
Can i take painkillers?
I just watched a video by another doctor and she said the exact opposite of what you said. All these conflicting opponions from assumed professionals are why the internet should not be your go-to when you are facing health issues
Thank you for sharing your perspective. It's important to be cautious and consult reliable sources for health advice.
@@PT4Everybody what kind of answer is that?
Guaranteed you can find 100 'experts' with a 100 different methods all contradicting each other. It is a total mess.
"Dr Amy' is not a Doctor of Medicine. Sciatica is a symptom, like a headache. Get a diagnosis before having any treatment.
I get conflicting advice and exercises in person too. It can be so discouraging for sure.
I tend to agree with the majority of comments. I had a procedure done in 2019 on my right hip to relieve the pressure off a pinched nerve. It resurfaced not too long ago and the exercises I've seen does not work. I shall follow your advise and thank you for this informative information.
Thank you for your kind words! I’m really pleased to know the information resonated with you. Best of luck on your healing journey!
Nothing works for me
I am sorry to hear that!
Thank you so much for your support! It means a lot to know my videos can help. I'm rooting for you on your journey to recovery!
My experience using heat made my sciatica worst now I’m using iced pack getting better 👍
Me too. Cold packs lend relief. Heat flares it.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's valuable for others dealing with similar issues.
Same here. Agony unrelieved for 2 weeks. I'm never without ice. Walking or just standing are torture.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm really glad the video helped shed some light on your situation. Remember, it's all about finding what works best for you. Wishing you all the best on your journey to recovery!
Same issue! This aggravated 2 weeks ago and stretching and heat packs are making me worse!!!! This pain is unbearable!
@@marishine9104I can't even lay down! Unable to sleep! I'm beyond miserable!
Lol.
I'm resting on my hot water bottle at the moment

So glad to have found your advice. I did all the things that you asked to avoid , it made the symptom getting worse. I ‘ll try out your advice. Thanks🙏🙏
Thank you for giving the advice a try! Your positive feedback means a lot.
I appreciate you sharing your experience. Rest up and feel better soon!
Thank you.
What do you think about this 🤔
I would agree that you should remain as active as possible without increasing your sciatica symptoms. Wishing you the best on your healing journey!

Happy days!

certainly agree with NO stretching.

Thank you
That's a great point! Updating now! And thank you for pointing that out.

I've been having sciatic nerve pain on and off . .thank you for tips .my question??? what about the application of infrared light to the sciatic origin pain ? thanks in advance
I haven't used infrared light but have heard it can be helpful!
Thank you for this very helpful info, my pain is in my lower left leg on the outside of my leg just above my ankle area, it is extremely painful whenever I try to stand or walk, do you have idea as to what this pain could be caused from, I've had this pain for many months, I'd appreciate any suggestions.
This could be the evertors (muscle) or peroneal nerve. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!
This is awesome, but I don't see the links she referenced to the exercises and the best sleeping position.

It’s a combination of heat & cold. Ice to reduce inflammation, but heat is important to get the blood flowing around. Heat allowed me to stop the numbness in my toe.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It's great to hear that the heated seats helped you feel comfortable on your way to the VA Hospital.
Thanks for a great video. What about going to a chiropractor or massage therapy? Good idea?

Thanks 😊
I would recommend working with a Manual Physical Therapist to find out YOUR root cause!

I was suggested to wear Lumbar belt given 1month medication. Now i am feeling much better i am to do all the work ride my bike with the belt support. Long way to go i keep hearing to my body signals we many times tend to neglect. Keep watch on your daily activities adjust accordingly all will go well.
I love this! Thank you for sharing your journey!
All facts !!! Waiting to get the point when I can exercise & stretch more. Not my first go around
Thank you for sharing your experience with me, it means a lot!
Thank you this makes sense. I will try the cold instead of the best now. Are there any painkiller drugs for sciatica.l have been taking cocodomol for spinal stenosis but it doesn't help for sciatica

Thank You So much! What is your opinion on copper back braces and copper magnetic braclets. Are they helpful? Also copper supplements
Sorry, no opinion on copper. I haven't researched it!
