I've driven both and purchase a 2020 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve equipped with turbo. As a single man with no kids the CX-5 fits my lifestyle. Very happy with my decision.
Pretty simple, get a CX5 if you have no kids or a couple young kids. Get a CX9 if you have older kids, more than 2 kids, or if your kid's strollers and other crap dont fit in the back of the CX5. No need to spend $7k more on a CX9 unless you really require the extra space. Both are great vehicles though, just for different stages of life.
I just don’t think this sums it up for everyone though, because I have 0 children and think the CX-9 is the nicer, better vehicle 🤷🏻♂️ And if I ever have a lot of friends visit we can just take my car! Haha

@@ko-Daegu okay? 😂 do we really NEED any fancy vehicles? Not really, but in my case the CX-9 works perfectly fine for me. Smoother ride than the CX-5, quieter, more spacious on the inside, and plenty of room for cargo/passengers if I need it.

Dude. Buy the Cx9 sport or touring for minimal additional dollars. The better seats alone and how it’s more planted on the road is worth it. Also, thrown down the 3rd row,and presto, more cargo. This comparison isn’t close. Cx9 by a landslide.
I own the 2018 Mazda CX-5 and I traveled almost 1600 miles this week. I was very impressed with my fuel mileage. I obtained an average of 36 mpg at 65 mph. I spent around a little over $100 in fuel.
The button on the left of the steering wheel in the CX5 was not the 'hill decent control' as you mentioned. It is the 'off road/bumpy road' mode which changes the traction control and front/rear torque split etc.
I was about to buy the cx5 carbon but it was a bit cramped. Ended up getting the cx9 carbon. I treat it like a roomy 2 row. The third row is mostly useless. Also, the cx9 does have the little cubby's in the back. The straps were just folded down.
Does the longer length of the cx9 translate into more driver leg room or just an unusable minuscule 3rd row? I’m 6’2” tall and like to move around. I do like the red interior. CX9 body style is 5 years old. CX5 is 4 years old. New iteration is overdue, maybe 2023?
@@BenHardyCars Thank you for the well done review . I have the CX 5 AWD Turbo CE and love it! I paid around 32k before taxes and that's pretty good for how the market is right now . If a third row is not necessary and extra space is also not an issue then 7k more for CX 9 makes no sense. If they put a V6 in the CX 9 then yes. Only issue is Mazdas thin paint . I had to spend 2k on a front paint protection film. The bumper and hood area on these Mazdas will not hold up well to debris and chipping
They uses the exact same engine and transmission. The CX 9 is heavier so the engine has to work harder. That's why the 5 gets better gas mileage and it's a little faster than the 9

I have driven both as rental cars. Loved them both a lot. Can’t go wrong with either one.
I prefer the CX9 Sport for $37.5k before incentives. Don’t care for heated seats or a sunroof. Add on black wheels after purchase.
Mazda is kinda underrated where I live, I don’t see many bit they’re nice. Also, great review!

I rented CX5 and I loved it.
I loved the way it drove and felt im really now thinking about getting one.
I wish the cx-9 had a v6
They confirmed today the cx5 will be getting an inline 6 with the next gen. So the cx9 will likely as well
CX-9 would be choice.

I hate the plastic moulding. That will be like the faded out Jeep ones in no time. I always have to condition thise in the jeep to keep them black.

How come the engine covers dont have the word Turbo on them? My 2021 Carbon Edition Turbo has it on the engine cover?
