It has to be done through the app! You need a radio with an HDMI input, like the NEX line stereos, to do a clean mirror link of a phone
Hello, nice video, something I can not get to work in my receiver is how to get artist art work when Pandora, FM radio, I tunes, DC playing, I just get the background thing, I don't know how to get navigator also, may you please let me know, thank you so much.
Ok, so for album artwork you have to be connected via the USB and playing music like that. The Bluetooth connection doesn't show album art. And the Navigation works with the AppRadioLive app that you must download for your phone from the iTunes or Google Play Store. Once you have it downloaded it will open up on the radio's screen when connected via the USB

They're virtually identical. The AVH-X490BS is just newer
i have just bought the avh x490dab. still trying to figure it out. can you play the radio while having a sat nav connected through the usb. ideally id like to have the music playing then have the sat nav voice cut over the msic to give directions. is there a setting for this?
Hi Ruth! Do you mean like a Garmin or Tom Tom? I don't think so, I'm assuming the Sat NAV would be connected to the radio's USB for power, but I don't believe audio would transfer. The USB on the radio is designed for USB cables for your phone and USB thumb drives for audio. I don't think an external device like Sat NAV would transfer its audio over, but it would definitely power the NAV.
However, I believe that radio has App Radio mode, which makes it possible to display another type of navigation app onto the radio through your phone connection: pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadioMode
Hi, I have both a mirror cam and a backup cam. Does this have input for both?
This radio has a dedicated RCA backup camera input, as well as a separate RCA video input which can be used by several types of things; cameras, dvd players, game consoles, anything with RCA outputs. So if your mirror camera has an RCA output cable, it can plug into the radio and all you would have to do is change the source of the radio to view the camera from the screen. However, if it's a Dash Cam I don't think it will e able to connect to the radio since the majority of them don't have a RCA video output option

No no, it works with any. All you need is to connect to the USB port and download the AppRadioLive app! I did this with an iPhone 6. You're thinking of JVC

Whoa that's a cool idea! I'm honestly not 100% sure. I would guess no, a lot of the times with external hard drives you have to download software and the files won't be compatible or transferrable to something like this radio who's processing power is much weaker than a computer. But if you have the radio I'd give it a try and see if it works

I just got this installed and the lines to my backup camera are pointing up into the air, on an incline, instead of displaying on the road. Is this a camera issue or the head unit? It doesn't appear that I can calibrate it myself, any suggestions?

Well they're basically the same radio except for two differences. The 5800BHS has built in HD Radio and dual camera inputs and the 4800BS doesn't have either

You'd miss out on HD Radio and Dual Camera Inputs! You can usually tell main features and differences of radios by the model numbers, B=Bluetooth, H=HD Radio, S=Satellite Radio. Its one of the best in that price range yes. Some similar ones:

I have the pioneer avh x4800bs , I have spotify which i use on my Samsung phone. every video I see has album art showing on the screen, I have yet to seen any on mine . do I need to have an ipod to get album art or do I have to download app radio or something?. I can use Bluetooth with or without my phone plugged into the USB. and if i turn off bluetooth spotify doesnt work ,it just says connection failed. . . the usb/ipod option is greyed out. very frustrating.

Well price wise they're close, but the Pioneer is cheaper. The Kenwood has HD Radio. But AppRadioLive offers free navigation on the Pioneer. The Kenwood offers iDataLink Maestro expandability for car functions to the radio with the adapter. Neither have HDMI.

I grounded the parking brake wire but when i use a dvd i cant push the ok button it doesnt light up for me to push it. i hear sound but cant get any picture. any ideas?
you need a relay now they don't ground on the parking break anymore

I purchased this radio about a month ago. The first thing i noticed is that when you're listening to the radio and the song changes it still shows the previous song and artist unless you change the station. the next problem im having is that when i purchased this radio i had an iphone and it worked great but i just bought the new galaxy note 7 and for some reason when i try to listen to pandora or spotify the sound only plays through my phones speakers and not the car speakers. Is there a way to fix these problems?
Hmmm, are you using Bluetooth for the connection? You may need to either update the radio's Bluetooth software and/or the Bluetooth settings. I would try going into the Bluetooth settings and clearing the memory of your old iPhone and then make sure the radio connects properly to your Galaxy.

I'm connected through bluetooth and USB. I reset the radio as soon as I got the new phone. I have no idea whats happening. I was thunking maybe it's the usb cord that I have but it's not a cheap one so I dont think it's that. when I'm talking on the phone it works through the speakers just fine. It's it's just when i try to use Pandora or spotify.
Which source are you in? If you're in the Bluetooth source try unplugging the USB. Or keep it plugged in and change to the USB Source
Nicole Gumpert I don't know if you got this fixed but I have the same radio and the guy who installed it for me at Best Buy says the USB outputs on the back are specific to whether you're using android vs apple. There's one that you can buy that works with both but most of the time android goes in one USB connection and Apple in another. So if you have an android phone now, you'd have to pull out the unit and correct the connection in the back. I think you can still use your android through Bluetooth but you won't get album art.

Make sure the parking brake is activated, or that you're parked! Display the Bluetooth screen, touch [Bluetooth Memory Clear], touch [Clear]

Anyone know the format settings for watching vidoes/movies from a flashdrive? I've tried handbrake and used the parameters described in the manual for res. bitrate, ect but nothing works?!?!?!

That didn't answer my question!? Obviously I know what formats it plays. I asked for the format settings, meaning max bit-rate, aspect ratio, resolution, ect.. NONE of those formats work without formating the video to the right settings.

Actually a lot of differences between the two! NEX has things the X4800S doesn't have like built in NAV, a better touchscreen, detachable front panel, two rear USB ports, Dual Zone Control, FLAC file support, iData Link Maestro Compatible, and most importantly Apple Carplay. The AVH-X4800S has a larger 7" motorized display and is App Radio Live compatible
This radio doesn't have NAV built in, but AppRadioLive allows it

Pioneer's app AppRadioLive. Just download it onto your phone then connect to the radio via USB, you'll be able to access the app on the radio that has the NAV feature

It has a rear RCA backup camera input, we show it at the 2:10 mark in the video!

Was trying to be polite and helpful, don't appreciate the hostility Cash. The USB drive connection allows playback of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVI, and WMV video files. When you insert your drive, select the proper AV Source on the radio and press USB, you will be able to access the files and folders stored onto the drive and play them on your radio

This is a very poor review. All I can see is how fast the guy can touch the screen buttons, but I can't see what that accomplishes. I want to see more of the radio and its capabilities.

Laggy pos. I have one of the previous models and I see pioneer hasn't changed a damn thing with the UI. You pay a premium for gps and the map updates aren't even free.

It looks like those have factory Double Din's which means it should, however there are not dash kits for your make and model! It may take a slight custom install but it looks like it should fit right in!

You can do it you'll just have to manually select the camera source through the radio

Don't need an adaptor. Just plug it into the video input, then select that as a source on the radio and it will come up
