When I was a kid in the early 70’s Batman reruns would come on when I got home from school. That Batmobile IS the only one as far as I’m concerned! That was an awesome look at it, great job!👍
Cool and thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍
@@CarStarz42 There were actually TWO movie serials around a decade apart. Stumbled across that fact purely by accident after Adam West died.
@@redbaron474 Yep, I know. In 1943 and 1949. I only mention the first because I was talking about the FIRST Batmobile 😉
Agreed! The 1066 Batmobile is THE BEST. I don't really care for the newer movie versions at all. Loved the show as a kid and still watch reruns on MeTV now when I can.
@@redbaron474When I was working in Minnesota, Adam West did a book signing at the Mall of America back in the early 2000s. Would’ve lliked to been there.
Boy that sure brings back memories
My Dad was a policeman in Ashland Ky in 1968
I was about 8 years old and a BIG Batman fan the car was in town on display he took me where it was staged and I got to sit in it
It was a childhood Dream I’ll never forget
Thanks!!!
Wow, cool! Glad you enjoyed it. 😉👍
That's awesome!
Couldn't have picked a better car to feature for your 50th video. Congrats!
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 👍
It’s obvious a lot of work went into this one. Very interesting and watchable. Many thanks.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 👍
Haven't watched the vid yet and I already gave it a like. The original bat mobile is one of my dream cars. I have pics of my wife and myself in a barris blessed repop. Was an awesome day sitting behind the wheel and calling commissioner Gordon on the bat phone.
Cool stuff! 😉👍
Turbines to speed, great memories, 🤗👍👍✌
😉👍
I have to sadly admit, that I lived near the Volo museum and haven't yet visited it. Your videos have shown me that that next time I go back home... I have to visit Volo.
Yeah, lots of great stuff there; I don't get to Illinois very often as I'm a few states away from it, but it's on my list to visit also 😉
Very cool 10 fax about the Batmobile and Congratulations on this being your 50th video 🎉😊👏👏
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
@@CarStarz42 Your Welcome. Were you planning on coming out with a fax video about the Mystery Machine from The Scooby Doo. I know it would be hard to do because it was a cartoon show.
@@ericgaudet5488 Lol, no I don't have any plans to do cartoon vehicles as there wouldn't be much to say about them since they aren't a real object with history or anything really. Interesting thought though, I'll give you that 😉
@@CarStarz42 ok that's cool. I know they made a couple of real life Movies with The Mystery Machine in them .
@@ericgaudet5488 Oh yeah; they did. I never saw those, but could be a possibility then in that case 😉
this was an amazingly detailed video. well worthy of the 50th slot. you uped the game with this one my friend. well done. and thank you for all the education you bring to us. (hell i'm 63 y/o and had never heard of the original Batman series)
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 👍
Outstanding as always. I never knew about the 390 engine! Thank you for your continued work ~ Chuck
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 👍
I was never a fan of the show but my wife has the signatures of the Actors who played Batman and Robin. She was very little when her parents ran into them on one of their many trips around the world.
😉👍
The one time the hood was open in the show the engine was covered in a black cloth. Its when a bad guy put a bomb under the hood. They didn’t show much of the engine compartment, just at an angle.
Indeed, as I mentioned in the video, they never show the engine despite the hood being opened at least twice in the show.
My father, Jim Stephenson, worked at Barris Kustom for quite a few years. He was the shop manager there for most of those years and I started working there with him in 1973 when I was just 14 years old. My father didn't build any of the Batmobiles, but did do a bit of work on them over the years and I got to ride in the original one with my father in the Huntington Park Christmas parade around 1973-74.
That was quite a day too. My father was driving the Batmobile and I was sitting in Robin's seat, but we weren't allowed to dress up as Batman and Robin for legal reasons so it was a bit weird for spectators to see two "nobodies" driving it. The parade was being broadcast nation wide live on TV and by the time we got to where the TV cameras and bleachers were the Batmobile was overheating and it blew one of the radiator hoses while we were sitting still waiting to move into the camera range and steam was billowing out from under the car. It looked like a cool "special effect" but it was a serious problem for my father and I.
We were finally waved into the the camera section and then told to wait while the announcers talked about the Batmobile for a few minutes, and just moments before they were finished the engine quit running and then they waved us on to move out of the camera section and my father told me "get out and push the car!" I was just a little dude and that car probably had a half a ton of lead on the steel body, but I jumped out and start pushing hard as I could and, lucky for me, a few other guys came running out and helped us push it out of the camera range and off to the side of the street. That was my first, and my last, appearance on nationwide TV. Hard to imagine that car being sold for $4million. That's just stunning.
Awesome story man; thanks for sharing! 👍
Huge fan of this 60s tv show 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
Funny how the latest Batmobile went back to be more of a street car like the 60's Batmobile.
Indeed 😉👍
The latest one i personally think is garbage ,.looks like it was borrowed of the fast and furious set .
@@paulthomson9014 An understandable opinion 😉
@@paulthomson9014 I share your disappointment

The steering wheel in the the Batmobile is a altered Teletouch from a 1958 Edsel.
😊😊agreed
Indeed 😉👍
Great video another fact Adam west that played batman on the TV show requested they replace the cool half steering wheel because he said it was difficult the drive the car sow they replaced it with a steering wheel from a Ford Edsel
Indeed 😉👍
Man, another great video! I recall an interview with Adam West where he mentioned how poor the brakes functioned and there were many near collisions on set. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks much and will do! 🙂👍
Brilliant
Your best video yet!
Keep them coming!

Fantastic video and thanks for creating this!

Great 50th video, my friend! Fantastic job as always 👏

Outstanding video!!!! Just found you channel, subscribed!!
Thanks and welcome. Glad to hear you are enjoying the channel so far 😉👍
Nice job on this video. Lots of cool facts.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
I never knew that the original car was made from a concept car! I always thought it was made from a pontiac or an old Lincoln. Thanx For The Knowledge!!!!! I love that car STILL!!! I actually saw a replica of one on the highway in Pennsylvania!!! I was driving along in my 08 Pontiac G8 and out of nowhere the BatMobile passes me! I was in a bit of a shock! I caught up to it and the operator said he was on his way to a Children’s Hospital for an event. 😎👍🏽
Cool, awesome stuff! 😉👍
Nice job, very interesting 👍
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
Do a youtube of the Magnum PI Ferrari 308.
That one is on my list to look into already as well as hundreds of others. Thanks 😉👍
Great video! We care for #4 at the Petrol Lounge in Austin, TX. Another factoid is #4 was the only fiberglass bodied Batmobile that was actually used on the show. #1 was damaged (or broken down) while filming an episode and #4 happened to be available. The episode was "The Contaminated Cowl". #4 still has the crazy engine and the the owner drives it regularly weather permitting.
Thanks and wow, very cool 😉👍
I saw one of these at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas in 1970. Thanks for sharing.
Cool😉👍
I thought I knew most everything about the 1966 Batmobile, but you hit on a few things that I was unaware of. Good job! I have the models you spoke of and a few more. Just received a Jazzinc 1/6 scale version and am trying to figure out how to display it. Don't worry...I'll get it done.
Thanks and that's awesome! 😉👍
That was an excellent episode!
Thanks much friend and glad you enjoyed it 😉

Very detailed study! I never knew of the 40s Batman. Need to look it up now.
Glad you enjoyed it and learned something new as well 😉👍

While far from the "best" diecast version, surely the one everyone had and remembers fondly is the Corgi one. Lots of different version were made over a long run, they're a little challenging to restore thanks to the moving parts
Indeed 😉
Doing the 1966 Batmobile just opened up new doors for more videos covering the other Batmobiles from each of the other movies, and since we're on the topic of 60s cars, is there a Monkee-mobile video in the works?
Well, if you take a look through my older videos; I have pretty much covered all the good Batmobiles as of now and yes, the Monkee-mobile is indeed on my list to look into already. Thanks 😉👍
Cool.👍 Polar lights makes 1/25 scale plastic batmobile, and a 1/25 scale snap kit with figures.
Yep, I just usually focus on high quality diecasts and other preassembled models as most of us don't have the time or patience for model building these days 😉
Cool looking car.
This channel is awesome.
Up next, Black Trans Am from corvette summer !!
Thanks, glad you are enjoying it. Well, not next as I already touched on Corvette Summer this year, but that Trans am is indeed on my list to look into, so eventually. 😉
Thanks. Keep up the great work.@@CarStarz42
Great vid again. Love your work on these. Keep them coming.

Your videos just keep coming, I'm loving it!!
Just letting you know that the history of Disney's The Love Bug and it's sequels have way to many Volkswagens used for tricks so that'll be a pain to do. I'm a Herbie fan and there are a lot left from the first and sequels.
I'm looking forward to others you'll bring 😎👍👍💯💯
Glad you are enjoying the channel and I do have that one on my list to look into at some point. Thanks 😉👍
Excellent!! 😎👍👍
i have the series on bluray, you can definitely see how used it is, you can see all the scratches and hand smudges all over it, it looks like nobody ever washed and waxed it.
Indeed.
Hi again
Howdy 😁
There was a version of the 1966 Batmobile at Fan Expo Canada (in Toronto) in 2016 that for $20 (Canadian) you could sit in it - which I did. Banged my head on the rear windshield getting in.
Lol, cool, but ouch! 😉
This is THE Batmobile! No other version will do. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
Another great video about a legend of a car, I wasn't aware that there was more than one made for filming. The thought of paying $4.6 million for a car fills me with dread, I wouldn't dare go near it or move it on the road for fear of damage lol
You didn't hear right, only number 1 was used in the show. The rest were used for promotional purposes
The man who paid that much is very wealthy and this didn't faze him
Yeah, crazy amount of money! And, as I mentioned in the video, only Batmobile #1 was used for the show and movie. The other three were for promotional touring and exhibition events 😉👍
Indeed, as mentioned in the video 😉
@@wurly164 Indeed you are correct, I missed that bit, I watched it again and still winced at $4.6 but in context I see what you're saying. I've got a little money nowadays, life's going good and I'll spend money on diecast models that a couple of years ago I would have winced at, it's all about context.
@graemew7001 Today I brought home, one of my favorite cars, a 1965 cadillac coupe.
@7:40 All I can really say is Wow!!! There are too many reasons to give props to this replica! I'm not a huge Batman or even comic book fan. I'm more looking at it from an attention to detail, engineering, overall finished product. Alot of hard work and I'm sure it's gets Alot of Smiles per gallon!!!
Indeed wild creations! 😉👍
Still the coolest Batmobile of them all. Love it! I want one.
😉👍
A really great job on this video. I was a big fan of the show in 1966. I have also always been a Ford guy. This is, bar none, the coolest car ever built. I want at least one of the available models, but sadly I am 67 and in minimizing mode, selling off most of my toys. I appreciate you providing ALL the facts and answering all the questions. Too many replicas claiming or inferring that theirs is the original car or one of the 4. It was like when I went to the Rock N Roll Hall of fame in August 2002 and saw The "John Lennon" army jacket/shirt and two weeks later, went to London and entered their "Hard Rock Cafe" ":Vault" where they had "The Lennon Coat".
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it. Indeed a true legend of a car! 😉👍
'Holly CarStarz' how did you manage to get the batmoble it's impossible without your secret password my buddy this is great achievement for yourself with 50th video showing up on nighttime as most appropriate choice for me to know that batman is roaming gotham right now in the batmoble so that you bro for not letting penguin and joker get there hands on it i got to go see you later bye now. P.S Hey CarStarz you know next week is christine video so yeah we are ready for best one yet😱😱.
Lol, thanks and indeed I intend to do my best and find all I can for Christine next week! Maximum effort 😉👍
@CarStarz42 thanks bro and have a nice weekend bye now.
Years ago, I saw one of the Batmobiles at a car/outdoor show. It is, in real life, an awesome car.
Cool 😉👍
That was fun thanks Never missed a show as a kid always come on at 3:00pm every day 😊
Cool and you're very welcome 😉👍
Excellent video! You hit upon many facts that just a few short years ago were known by only a few. There are a handful of additional details for the curious: 1) the high-res 1955 Lincoln Futura footage was of a fiberglass replica (the world's first) that Bob Butts built and is now owned by ventriloquist Jeff Dunham; 2) the Volo Museum 1966 Batmobile replica was built by Peter Borne, not by BKI; 3) the replica shown with the autographs on the door tops was built by John Brighton, not by BKI; 4) the one-of-a-kind 1955 Lincoln Futura steering wheel was thrown away (!) and replaced with a 1958 Edsel steering wheel in third season; 5) the #1 car was driven at 70MPH for the helicopter shot in the Batman movie by stuntman Hubie Kerns; 6) the car that the Barris family currently owns (nicknamed the #2) was built by Bob Butts, and it should really be called the #6. Again, you did a great job with the video. It is obvious that you did a ton of homework to break through the 'smoke and mirrors.'
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for all the extra details 😉👍
It cost Ford $250,000 to build the concept car.
That same year they spent $325,000 on toilet paper.
Lol, amazing how much money the big three blow through on many levels 😉
Do the 71 chevelle from convoy next
Well, it won't be next; but that one is indeed already on my list to look into. Thanks👍
I gave him the idea to do the one for joy ride2
@@dylanpeterson6442 😉👍
Very cool video. Pretty crazy if the studio was too cheap to give the car a tune-up over the course of the seasons. I could see when production first began but hard to believe it was never done throughout the years it was on. Although Hollywood also was too lazy and cheap to buy the proper rounds for the crow, so maybe not too surprising.
TV and Movie cars do often get the shaft when it comes to being cared for unfortunately.
#3 has been at several car shows here in NJ over the years. I gotta say, I always thought it was a well done replica, not one of the actual cars! Love the videos, keep it up! 😊
Cool and will do 😉👍
The 1949 Batman serial used a 1949 Mercury convertible, again top-down for Bruce Wayne and top up for Batman.
Ah, yeah I haven't watched that one yet, but had a feeling they would repeat that idea, lol😉
Went to your page, gotta give some love to The Black Beauty a true supercar.
Glad you did and yep; that one is indeed already on my large to do list😉👍
Love that car!
😉👍
There was another black and white Batman movie series from the late 1940s-early 1950s. I saw a few episodes several years ago so my memory is not exact. If I recall correctly, Bruce Wayne's car was a late 40s Mercury or Lincoln badly in need of a wash and a little body work to correct some dings. It was definitely a low budget production. I don't believe that they ever actually referred to it as the "Batmobile" however.
Yeah, there was a 1949 movie serial as well 😉
@CarStarz42 1949 serial 15 chapters with Robert lowry and Johnny Duncan, 1943 Was with Lewis Wilson as batman and Robin Douglas croft, i have both serials on dvd 📀 also 1966 tv series on dvd,
I mentioned this serial in a forum when Adam West died and everyone was saying he was the original Batman. I caught no end of abuse for it
Jeff Dunham has one of the replicas of this era & also the screen-used 1992 Batman Returns one. He drives both regularly & posts videos on his social media.

Indeed he does😉👍
The one fact that shocked me was the 1940s Batman show. They looked almost identical to the later 1960s show. The batmobile that came later was absolutely needed but the fights were very well filmed and staged. Love how George Barris created that muscly batmobile out of the Jetson's - like Futura. Also love how they sinc'ed the turbine wail to the 1960s batmobile as it drove around. Looks and sounds very convincing. Thank you for this list of facts.
You're very welcome. Glad to hear you both learned from and enjoyed the video 😉👍
@@CarStarz42 absolutely!
Yep, the original Batman. Of all the “Batmobile’s” this is still my favorite. The later movie cars are ugly. Thanks for another great video and story.
It's a cool one for sure 😉👍
Atomic batteries to power,
Turbines to speed,

Ready to move out!
😉👍
Another fun fact that about Barris Batmobile it was on display at Universal Studios in 1994 and 1995 during the construction of Terminator 2 3D. Several other Barris Hollywood vehicles were on display. I still kept the Universal Studios map with his Barris Movie And T.V. and one photo of the Batmobile.
Cool 😉👍
This and other tv/movie cars earned their keep touring the world in displays and car shows. I used to keep my race car in a storage unit when I was between houses for a while. In 1987 the munsters car and the batmobile were in the unit left and right of me . Don't know if the batmobile was a replica but it definitely was drivable. It was actually pretty rough anywhere closer than about 20 feet.
Cool😉👍
i live in virginia! i knew about the coba mercury being here but did not know about batmobile 1 & 2 being here

Met George Barris several times especially when I had my replica Herbie way before he passed away. Got to see his Monkeemobile and Munsters Coach. Not sure which Batmobile I'd seen, original Batmobile or Hot Wheels Promo Batmobile.
If you do the General Lee from the series and 2005 movie I can provide photos of the cars after brought back to Burbank 😊😊

Years ago I was watching an interview with Adam West talking about his time making the Batman series. He said admittedly he was a horrible driver. So if you watch the original series closely you’ll see plenty of his sketchy driving.
Indeed, lol.
Imagine if there was a television series as we have them today on these car building shows- that was in Barrie’s’ garage as they created concepts and builds of the iconic cars he created.
Would be interesting for sure 😉👍
The Batmobile was in a movie before Batman. It starred Debbie Reynolds and Glenn Ford.
Well, the Futura before it was converted into the Batmobile was featured in "It started with a Kiss" 1959 movie if that's what you mean 😉
I went to a car show in the late 70's and they had the Batmobile or a replica. It had scratches and gouges all over it.

Interesting story about the numbered batmobiles sounds A LOT like the number of KITT's as in AJ's at the Peterson museum and Joe's in his garage.

One of the original toys - think was by Marx at the time, actually had working rocket launchers out behind the windows (got it at a garage sale) and used toothpicks - the launchers were spring loaded.

you may forgot that the 1955 Lincoln Futura was use in another tv show call Viper know as the Baxler on Viper season 1 episode 8 Wheels of Fire release 1994 an episode that got a cameo of Bryan Cranston as the episode villian.
Yeah, I know it made a handful of cameos on shows and movies in such. Was a pretty popular car for a few years at least 😉👍

There was a batmobile built in 1956 on an oldsmobile which some argue is the first custom batmobile.
Well, kind of, but that one still wasn't a full custom like a the '66 was, especially since the '66 was built from a one of a kind factory concept car too😉
I was 6 in 66 and loved the show, did the whole towel tied around my neck, danananana
😉👍
There used to be a Batmobile across the street from the Bank of America on Main St in downtown Las Vegas.

What guy isn't a fan of batman if like me you were a kid in the mid sixties? I still am and even though I don't collect things I do have the plastic assembly kit of the Batmobile by Polar Lights. Everyone should have this kit even if you're not a model builder!

Curious to know more behind the license plate numbers/letters. Inside joke with writers/producer?
Not sure on that one, lol.
So far, no information has turned up. The license plates were merely painted pieces of masonite, and one of them just sold at an auction for over $8,000!
I got to sit in that car back in the 70s 😊

Lowering the roof on the convertible was about as obvious as Clark Kent glasses
