Make Ginseng Ficus into Real Bonsai

  • In this video I will repot and roughly style a Ginseng Ficus that I bought for 10€ at a hardware store.
    These Ginseng Ficuses look horrible, like a butt with foliage when you get them.
    By cutting branches, putting them into a nice Bonsai pot and wiring the branches into position I was able to give this one a rounded foliage structure - just like a tree in nature.
    Obviously this tree has a long way to go, but it looks much better now.

    Wow this video is amazing! I just got a ficus ginseng, I’d love to make it into a beauty like you did, but I’d probably just kill it in the process. Still, amazing work!

      You can always try! Put it in a transparent plastic bag for a couple of days after repotting and it’ll survive the transition well!

      Hey there :) First of all thanks for the sub and the nice comment - what I am trying to do is make Bonsai accessible to young people and show things that can be done with little money. I started out on Instagram and have only recently gotten into UA-cam. If you'd like check me out on Instagram for more - but I'll keep uploading here as well. Have a nice day :)

    Hi! Thanks for sharing. Did you use inorganic soil or semi-organic?

    • @Bonsaifly
      @Bonsaifly  2 роки тому

      Non-organic. Here I used pure pumice. I have since gone over to using a mix of pumice and lava. Some people like using some akadama or pine bark with that mix, try it out and see what works for you!

      Hey there Martin,
      The soil I have used here is pumice, it works well with Ficuses.
      The second video on this particular tree will be out soon, stay tuned!

      @@martrobs9899 no worries, glad to help. Nowadays I use a mix of pumice and lava for my soil. You can also combine that mix with akadama or pine bark and see what works for you. Akadama and pine bark usually mean you don’t have to water as often
