Let me explain: - Destroyer After "Alive" made Kiss huge, the general consensus was "Well done you guys, but are you able to keep the momentum up?" So the band had something to prove and hit on a formula: - The sing along anthem - The ballad AND - The GENE song With "Destroyer" the sing along anthem was "Detroit Rock city", the ballad was "Beth" and the GENE song was "God of thunder" - Creatures of the night Well, with "Dynasty", "Unmasked" and "The Elder", Kiss lost not only their hardcore fans but also much of their credibility and as Paul puts it so eloquently, he was asked "What is it like being on a sinking ship?", People wrote them off, so Kiss had a statement to make and did so by following the template of "Destroyer" very closely. - The sing along Anthem was "I love it loud" - The Ballad was "I still love you" - The GENE song was "Warmachine" - Revenge Gene has often said that he "Wasn't there in the eighties" his lack of focus only turning around during the "Hot in the shade" era when he once again realized that he actually was THAT Gene Simmons and his writing started to get good again. But for many it was too little, too late, Kiss had narrowly survived the eighties, NO WAY they would survive the Nineties. Certainly not after Eric Carr passed away: that was a critical hit, they would NEVER survive that. So once again Kiss had something to prove. - The sing along anthem was "I just wanna" - The Ballad was "Every time I look at you." - The GENE song was "Unholy" You can listen to those three albums back to back and it will all fit like a jigsaw.
Those solo albums were awesome. Each had a poster. I got Gene first, paul, peter, then ace. I was kid, albums were expensive. Shoulda bought Ace's first. I loved those solo albums.
The irony is taking off the makeup was a disaster for gene. He wasnt the same guy onstage. He had the best persona in the band. You take that makeup off the fire breathing,blood spitting and tounge wagging wasnt the same. He was as he put it " beau Arthur in drag"

I think he talks smack about just about everybody who was ever part of his life except his son (thank goodness). Paul mentioned that to show how difficult it was to work with two irrational addicts. I think it's acceptable to hear Paul's reality at their workplace. What's more important, there's no "dirty laundry" about his ex-wife! He wrote clinically clean about Pamela Bowen, the mother of their first son. Finally, what Paul wrote about himself, is very self-critical. He may not have written all, but he is his own harshest critic.
Lol paul can be so mean and brutally honest although i think the latter is a good quality. You want someone in life willing to say the tough things instead of whats convenient. It's equally as hilarious though and he has made it to a certain point in life so any advice he gives on life, probably not bad advice by any means. But man these guys would cut their own throats just to spite the others. What a wild ride that must have been.

He leaned so hard into The Demon persona on stage with a whole segment involving him spitting blood during a bass solo, I don't think he knew how to be himself up there. Paul's stage persona didn't change at all, Eric was behind the drum kit, and folks weren't that attached to Vinnie anyway.
Or maybe you should read his 📖? Paul tried to get psychiatric help already at the age of 16 in a clinic in New York. Remember Dr. Jesse Hilsen? Paul "looked into himself" for about 35 years. And he wrote his book in 2014.

Actually I like the Album - but I do not listen to it anymore because ACE didn‘t play on it ! Under these Circumstances it is never the Best Album ! It is also not really a Complete Band Album with so many Ghost Guitar Players . It was a Hard Time for Kiss anyway since 1980 after Unmasked ! I really like The Elder Today (good Tunes on it) and the KISS Time about 1981/82 ! But I was very disappointed as I knew ACE was leaving and Kiss shortly after took the Make-up off ? Almost a new Band and without Ace and Peter anyway......back then I was 12 and 13 years old and shortly after I was not a Fan anymore for a few years . Somehting is lacking in an addicts mind and if they come across somehting that makes them feel normal or well, they will dive into that. Addiction comes in many forms , but at the end of the day, Addiction is one entity. You speak of your sex addiction, Gene has an addiction to money and power. These things work for you. The other 2 found what you got in substances, unfortunately. So did I. As a recovering addict, alcohol and pills,I can assure you it's hard to let go of your crutch in life. I am still very much an addict,and I need a new addiction, but this time I hope to find a positive addiction. Addiction is stronger than any love, or the self respect of the person. Once you are in deep, it's very hard to just up and quit becuase then you are facing the real world head on with nothing to hide behind, it's scary and difficult. When you were young and bedding all those women, could you have just stopped and walked away? In society, we feel bad for those addicted to food, but we hate the drug addicts and alcoholics. We feel bad for anorexia but hate gamblers who ruin their families lives. Its all addiction at the end of the day and nobody chooses it. Stop the bashing
