Not many people have an appreciation for what these operators go through. Between the weather hot and cold or dusty and wet. Getting bounced around for hours and hours…. It takes a special person o do this day after day. Hats off to the ones that still do!
I haven't watched this in a while but I'm hammered already! I never got a shot at a Cat double barrel but I sure got warped by the Eucs. 14's and 24's were it for me and there is just one BANG after another with one of them. I ran a 631 and a 619 and really liked them but always wanted to herd a 27 but not anymore. Hope you're on a nice smooth grader by now.
This scraper will only up shift to the highest gear you have selected. If you select 4th it will start out in 1st or 2nd "I cant remember" and up shift to 4th and stay there as long as you are on the accelerator. When you let off it will down shift by itself to what ever gear it needs to meet load. Just like a car. When I select 2nd for cutting I don't want it to shift any higher than that. It has a trans hold pedal on the floor that doesn't work, otherwise I would leave it in a higher gear and use it when it downshifts to a cutting gear. I throw it back to 8th to let it upshift to the highest gear possible to go as fast as I can to try to get up the hill. Sometimes it gets to 6 sometimes it only gets to 5th gear. As far as touchy on the pan ya kinda but I wasn't trying to make it look good, plus it was very hard ground filled with lots and lots of rocks. Sometimes I jump it up to go over a rock and plan on picking it up next time. I was a long ways from the finished look. I ended up using a dozer to push more down to the bottom. Even the dozer wouldn't cut in more than a few inches because of the hard and rocky ground. After all that I cut a ditch thru the side of the hill . So it didn't matter if it was wavy or not at that time. Thank you all for the great comments! Keep it up. I don't get on here that often so it might take me a while to respond. Hopefully I'll have more videos to upload soon.
I use to do this for a living, 637's, 627's and euc's 14 & 18's. Also did push-cat and then 12G grader. Liked it when I was young, but in my sixties now. Wouldn't mind making a couple rounds though.
I used to run them back when they were cable operated. No enclosed cockpit it was all open with just a windshield. Cat 619C’s and Euclid “double barrel” Detroit Diesels. Loved the Cats but dang to this day when I hear a Detroit I stop and just listen. To run a machine with two Detroits working hard putting it to the ground well, I’ll always have it in my blood. Wish I could run one again before I die.
Worse than trying to maintain an even keel aboard a tossing fishing boat in an unpredictable cross-chop! Well done, sir. I don't envy you your back at the end of a working day.
FLYGOD 81 Is this a 27or a 37 and if I had a cushion ride it better work or get fixed. Otherwise I'm going to the house. Where is the seat belt down along side the seat in the hydraulic oil?
It's a 627. The cushion hitch seems to be working normal now. I think its rough either way. Not sure on your seatbelt question. I'm buckled in, won't run it with out it.
Well the seat is mounted at an angle so really I'm just looking right, But the rough ride does make the back feel a little sore at the end of the day. I'm fortunate in that I only run this machine from time to time. Thanks for watching my video.
Makes me want to run scraper again. This guy is a good pan operator.. But can not figure out why he is shifting a automatic transmission , manually?? No need to, just adjust your speed with the throttle..
M Hoff thanks. The front engine was weak and it would damn near die before it down shifted. By then you lost the momentum and had to go all the way down and start again to get any speed. Especially going up the hill. By manually shifting I could keep the rpms up and make it up the hill. Otherwise I a snail would go faster.
Maybe the shifting points are out of adjustment. That transmission should shift so the engine maintains power and RPM to clime hills.. So much nice to leave it in 8th gear and use the transmission hold peddle to control shifting as desired.
And that's how it's done. !!! Nice video. Brought back a lot of memories.. I still would rather run a scraper over the push dozer. To bad it wasn't a push/pull. Scrapers are such a versatile earth mover.
+reeferdoctor There are 2 accumulators near the hitch filled with nitrogen gas . There are pistons insite they can leak gas into the hydraulic oil . If there is extreemly pression on the hydraulic filler cap with ejector cilinder out in the morning befor starting ...That's a signal from leaking nitrogen gas insite the hydraulic oil . After time the system don't work . and make bonk bonk or the lidle cilinder dont go out. The only effectiv repair is to renew the piston rings insite the accumulators . Put a 1/4 gallon hydraulic oil on top off piston ( the nitrogen site), other wise the new rings are going dry up and down . 1 accumulator is for emthy driving and one for full loaded driving . The suspension works when you shift to 3th or 4th ??????? or by hand . If it works by a electric puls , a solenoid can be broken . Maybe this is helpfull !! Don't mess with high pression Nitrogen equipment . Let do it by a expert Gr .Cees.
Great video. I am a dozer operator . Never worked around scrapers. But this is a great video to see a cycle and how you load
Thank you. I'm no pro but I got a lot of dirt moved fast so must be doing something right.
Your doing it right as far as I can see, the name of the game is moving as much dirt as possable and not hurting the machine or the operator. Cheers

I thought the idea in loading was to keep the can...as you call it...steady and not too much up and down creating smooth cuts
Around one for 37 years at the end of the day I just felt tired my body didn’t hurt easiest machine I ever learned out of her run
Always keep your right hand on the can lever
Best E-brake man has invented
I hate to run behind a duck walker it makes for a really long shift.good thing he's running alone.
Lad' s got the touch -so has the masseur
U don't have to jam those levers like that u should treat them like a fine lady very gently
What was the lever you were moving next to the seat?
That's the cushion hitch. It smooths out the ride "some"
@@reeferdoctor I have ran scrapers before so I was confused on what you were doing. Though maybe you were cutting out a rear engine or something Thx
perfeito
reeferdoctor, is that a new cell in a Landfill you're Excavating ??
D Miller nope. dropping the hill down to put a ditch across it. thanks for watching and commenting
Nice work, by the way. Have a safe day @ work tomorrow!
I couldn't do that shit all day. Fuck that. Mindless zombie work. Only thing worse is a dozer.
Amtrakeng yep makes for a really long day. fortunately I don't run this very often
I bet..best to you sir... ;)
All u had to do was take some pride in what u were doing
Great angle for the camera, best shot vid i've seen on youtube, thanks for the upload, maybe you'd do some more sometime.

I think the rear transmission is able to only shift up 3
You don't load I n first that is a direct drive no convertor

Super video. Great view of how to operate. I'd say your back hurts at the end of the day. Tough job. All the best 👍
That’s a long, hot, dusty day right there

Achei muito bom esse vídeo.
Foi muito visível ,no geral, câmera bem colocada.meus parabéns.
I pretty much grew up running these .... you can do just about anything as long as it’s good dry dirt
Where can I get a shirt like that? I've got a wedding to attend and that would be perfect for the occasion!
Really cool view, great video

fella u know wot ur doing 100 per cent the noise o the machine and speed ur hand are spot on. Ar u lookin 4 a job.?
Paul Lowson a job? if it's got anything to do with a scraper oh no!
looking back all day really has to do a number on your back

poor guy i bet their neck hurts at the end of the day!!! im going to invent a rotating chair for them and a remote control.
ce gars doit avoir deux paires d'yeux...mince

that seat is rooted
I worked around them seeing them in person and how much dirt they can move is amazing
Eric Schiffer that it is. thanks
is it a field ?

ya sometimes it does and sometimes it don't. not sure why
