I love Terex and Detroits. Maybe because they are from a by-gone era I will never see. Cats from that age are cool, but they all seem slow and old, ran at half throttle just ticking down the strokes. But Detroits.... detroits make me think of the industrial society that we were in the 60s. Full throttle, all go. You'll find many a tired old Terex, but they hide it as well as possible under that beautiful lime green veil.

Haven't seen video yet, but brings back great memories. Operated TS-14 back in 74-75.Probably why I have back trouble today. One operator was traveling the haul road with a full bowl. Hit a bump and unintentionally turned left into a twenty foot pond. His last words were "send me my check".

I am 70 years old. I ran one of the beauties back in the early 70’s during the hest of summer when i was in college. How i avoided heat stroke i will never know. The heat coming off that engine felt like the surface of the sun. In the deep south in georgia. Cut a yellow jacket nest up stripping top soil off new subdivision streets and bailed off that sucker while it was rolling. Laid the pan down and jumped. LOL

Just a great video. Neat old scrapers like that, just aren't seen in British Columbia. That TS14 is in good shape, Justin's a good operator, and those 2 stroke Detroits have lots of life left in them. That was a great video.

I would have liked to have seen what he did with it after it was collected. I have never seen one of those work. The bucket on the exhaust made me laugh. We had an old hand crank Farmall when I was a kid, and put a small coffee can over the exhaust to keep the rain out. Worked fine. If you forgot to remove it before cranking, it would shoot the can off like a rocket when it cranked.

It's been a few years back I worked for a guy nights and weekends running highlift and a selfloader. Was only a 11 yard bowel on it. Did that for about 6 years until I bought my own highlift. We did subdivision roads and small county road jobs. Never a flat piece of ground. It sure would have been nice to be able to do a job like that.

When they first built US 20 from South Bend to Michigan City, Indiana they only had a steam shovel and a horse drawn dump wagon! I have a picture somewhere from the 1920's, since my great great grandfather's brother owned the land they bought in South Bend! They came from Mississippi after the turn of century to South Bend, we just moved this year down to Alabama from Indiana!
My great great grandfather also sold most of his farm to the city of South Bend so they could construct the new airport, which used to only be a grass field! I really miss, Indiana Dirt "Rich brown to black" compared to this clay, after a rain it is like walking on a sponge! Till yourself a garden and you have to let it dry out for at least a week or you will have boots that weigh 20 lbs when walking it to plant!

Tell Justin to go find some starting fluid gel tabs for cold weather starting. They go into the little oil cup looking things just above the superchargers. Makes cold starts way easier. Also tell Justin to function check the emergency kill levers every so often. The ONLY way to stop a runaway 6-71. Lol.

  • @jamesvos3089
    @jamesvos3089 7 років тому +18

you can tell he's done that before, usually they spin the hell out of the rear tires from too much down pressure. I used to run ts-24's. just put an engine in one and they have an air horn that would go off if they lost oil pressure, well as I was putting away tools the operator took oil pan off with a stump then wide open until it scattered the new engine, horn just screaming away

Man dat brings back some memories, got my start on equipment 20 yrs ago runnin those same T-Rex TS14B's. 12 to 16 hrs a day 7 days a week 3 months straight. We ran 24hr/7 rediverting Capt. Sam's Inlet between Kiawah n Seabrook Islands. Hauled the sand 1mi down d beach to block off d old channel. Long as dat screamin deamon had oil in it you couldn't kill em. Although the Alison trans did NOT like salt water in it. One boy was tryin 2 get out work dat nite. When he got fired that night he had to walk 4 miles back to his truck. Dumb A** Anyway cool vid, long live the Detroit Diesel!!

No wrong impressions given. They're as I said some bad apples who ruin it for us people who love to enjoy nature. A lot of that tire waste would make ground cover for a children's playground. Alot of the playgrounds in my area are going to ground up old tires as it is better for kids to fall on than crushed rock.

LOL The reason we still see so many of them are because the engines and tranny is so easy to rebuild. I worked for a company that had a fleet of TS-14 's and about 24 or the TS-24's. Had s few catch fire and burn up. Hauled them to the scrap yard and got $1000 for the bowl of a 24. $500 for both engines and $250 for the tranny. I cut my teeth on one of those. Rode a few times around the job site with the boss man, and he turned me loose. I was scared to death! It had five fwd speeds and would go probably 45mph. Need to stop quick? Put the bowl down! I held up production because I was so green and timid, and the dozer operators were ready to kill me. Boss pulled me off and stuck me in a ditch with a grade rod and shovel for a couple weeks in the middle of a NC January, and before long I was begging to get back in the seat. It didn't take me long to figure it out the second time around!

We used to use Terex 72-51 Loaders in Northern Ireland in the Forces for clearing road blocks and burning vehicles when the riots were on.
The screaming Detroit Diesel used to clear the reprobates fairly quickly especially in the wee hours of the morning in a built up area 😉👍🏼
Crushed many a mans pride n joy in my 4/1 Bucket in Belfast.
Very antiquated machine but strong as an ox and seldom broke down which is handy in an area where people would like to kill you.
The armoured cab was a bastard to operate from within due to the thickness of the glass ( 50 Cal proof)
Happy days listening to those engines screaming away tho ear defenders would be advisable methinks.

Buy that guy some earplugs while he can still hear. Seriously. He needs hearing protection.
