i remember the first time i drove one of those, at the time it was the biggest dozer i'd been on. we owned D8Ks and D8Hs but we hired a D9H just like that for a job we had on. my brother said 'this is going to be like nothing else you've been on' and he was right. I put the blade down and started pushing... then put it down some more... and some more and some more. humps where you'd have to lift the blade over in the D8, it just pushed straight through those. great fun
I use to rebuild the transmissions on these D9's D8's and D7's back in the mid 70's at a Cat dealership in Indy. Flat rate was 24 hrs on a D9 trans and I could do it in slightly less time than that including testing. Enjoyed that job more than any one at the dealership. GOOD TIMES. Great machines backed by a great company.
My hat off to you gentlemen for an excellent restoration. A tribute to a great dozer, the CAT D9H and to one of the best CAT engines, the CAT D353. For its displacement the D353 is a very heavy block. I like the sound of the D353's low idle at the very end, I can't get enough of that sound!
Najlepszy dźwięk silnika ,z rano ,zima , bardzo niska temperatura rozruchu ,po kolei zapala kolejny cylinder ,po chwili palą wszystkie super,piękna odbudowa, pozdrawiam z Polski.
Hi,@@deborahchesser7375 and thanks for your comment. You bet, 60 tons of Cat quality. I don't see any modern engine in its displacement class which compares with the Cat D353 diesel, the perfect match for the D9H, like love & marriage and ham & swiss!! The only exception, there is one modern engine which would compare to the Cat D353 and it's the Cummins QSK23, an in-line 6 as well, with a dry weight of 3,245 kg/7,139 Lbs., a real brute!!
Nice to See That old D9 bulldozer is Restored and he's going to work Again and also i like the Black Smoke came from exhaust its look like a sleeping monster is Awake Again😎
No doubt Robert. Just priced a new one at my cat dealer in Ohio and its $1,180,000. with no ripper. I have a d9h and a d9g that i make a living with. I'd take that restored H any day over a new one! My G is one year younger than i am. It's a 1971. Lol
First dozer I ever drove...with my Dad when I was about ten...it went "this does that, that does this, off you go,drive it up that road to the workshop, park it a bay one....middle of the night in a coal mine in NSW....Dad drove off in the work truck...😀45yrs ago....get on the news and locked up if we did that these day....
I’ve driven a d7g from the era of that dozer it was pretty cool to be up there on that thing I am thirteen and those machines are pretty fun to operate

These old D9H’s were monsters back in the day. Still are,and you gotta love that how effortlessly they rolled the black smoke. Good old days before the EPA’s bullshit started ruining it.
