Me as well... Even though I had heard “Heard it in a Love Song” or with my bad hearing “Pretty little Love Song”, my brother came home from college and gave me a tape... and it had “24 hours at a Time” live.... announcing Charlie’s Daniels helping out, the first notes from Toy’s guitar, and Tommy’s bass solo and I was hooked....
Marshall Tucker still is one of my favorite bands along with allman brothers and lynrd skynrd; Doug grays fantastic voice and the whole music of the band was so awesome!
I saw them in 1973 and 1974 at the Capitol Theater NJ, the first time they opened for the Allman Brothers and I was blown out on Orange Sunshine and remember Doug singing like nobody I ever heard on Take the Highway, they impressed everyone immediately and Doug is such a sweet soul, rock on brother!
I also graduated in 77. My mother sang in a gospel group and we went to a local radio station in Macon where they brocast a show including MTB. They were all so nice to us. Very respectful
Never heard you mention Paul T Riddle ! One heck of a drummer . I love how he play the cymbals . He knew what he was doing to add to the Tucker sound !
I meet Toy in Las Vegas in I think 1990 . We talked. He showed me the songs he wrote. It was the day before Thanksgiving. He was in Vagas. He had a sm tralior on nellas boulevard. He had a early in side his fenced yard, and a black vet, parked on the out side of his fence. He was driveing a small new white car. It broke my heart when I heard he had passed. He talked about his love for his family. He seemed to be a man that was always there for his family, when ever they needed him. I miss him and was honored, he trusted me and felt comfortable enough to talk to me. It could of been in 1991 a day before Thanksgiving. That's one time I'll always remember
I had the distinct honor of photographing the Marshall Tucker Band last night in Beaumont, Texas. They closed with “Can’t You See” and as I was packing up my photography gear Doug Gray walked to the front of the stage and thanked me for photographing them and gave me his tambourine. 📸📸📸
Winterland in San Francisco in 1973. Their first tour with the Allman Bros. Brought them a couple of lids at their hotel and became fast friends. Great old times, great music.
Always enjoy the stories that Doug always has to tell .. it’s the best thing ever to hear the stories of his life and the heart of his music and friendship with MTB .. he has such a amazing sense to humor..
I play one of there songs about every day but I can not sing as good as Mr Gray first time I ever saw them was in 73 with Skynyrd and Allman and I think caned heat was there also.blue ridge Mt sky is my favorite it will be played at my funeral I hope it's a long time from now a long long time
My brother in laws sister moved down to a beach in SC not far from where he hung out at in the 80's and 90's with my Mom and I. We went to a bar and I told her that guy over there looks like the lead singer of the Marshall Tucker band. I guy that was a regular at that bar said it is. Do ya want to meet him. Hell yeah we said and you could tell he really like my bro in laws sister. They went out on a few dates and he would call the house and say hello and my name when I answered the phone and asked to speak to her and he would then usually come up and pick her up and they would go have a good time. He is a very nice person and it was a pleasure to have meet him. I noticed him cause I had seen them in concert a few times before so that's how I mostly could tell it was him. Like I said. He was extremely friendly and remembered my name but that was 30 some years ago.
That was The Sitar Nightclub in Spartanburg…later named The Ruins. It’s there that they met The Allman Brothers and fronted for them. It was an amazing time!
I saw them at the Fox in Atlanta, Ga. I sat right in front of Doug Gray and was hooked on them for sure. That was the only concert I went to and stayed sober. Love Marshall Tucker!
Doug, you are still my favorite singer, being from Springfield, Mass., it took me a few years to get use to your voice, but you won me over in the end, I put the Marshall Tucker Band up there with the Rolling Stones, really, no really.
True , the entire group in early years inspired me to play and try to sing like they did. I may never be as talented but trying alone put me in the best shape , musically speaking, that lifted my spirit! Made two of their appearances in BR. Great show, especially with Doug relaying stories about the Caldwell family when they were young. Funny, too.
I have everything tucker ever recorded heard them at one my dad's parties my pops two favorite bands Marshall tucker the Allman brothers now they are mine
I grew up near Doug's home and we knew each other from about age 16. during high school one of Doug's favorite sayings was "kiss my loo-tis-a-ble" he was quite a character.
Doug my name is Ronnie holder I still play music I'm 66 years old I sit on the porch and play my music now and I love you I've always loved you as a brother
It was my pleasure to work the Marshall Tucker 'Just Us' tour as a sound tech. In the strangest twist I experienced in 21 years of touring, I was the lighting director on the next leg because Sam Whiteside (MTB's studio engineer) finally took the band up on their offer to 'come out and mix the band. Great people to work with.
Great talent and NICE guy! I opened for MTB in the late ‘80’s. I asked Doug and Jerry Eubanks if I could have their autograph and they said NO! Lol! Then looked at me and said only if we can have YOUR’S first! I was floored! They really liked my playing at the band I was in.
Saw them around the late 80's in a small venue in Casper Wy, showtime was 8pm and heard they played all night!, regret leaving at 2 AM missed out for sure.
I never saw Marshall Tucker .. one of my biggest regrets in life and they were actually playing about 60 miles from me and I stayed home and listened to their music on the stereo.
Your music is in my heart and sole forever. I love it. I want your shirt. Let me know if you want to give it up. May your humble spirt rock on forever. Many thanks for your story. respects, sky
Saw MTB in Madison in 1979 with the Caldwell boys and in 1990 at Mole Lake.Doug Gray's voice is one of the most distinguished in all of music, as was Toy Caldwell's guitar picking style.
just one of those bands you know you love on the 1st note, Providence, RI. 77-78? Civic Center with Jonathan Edwards and Pure Prairie League. Ayotte Brothers, Mark Calderone and jansie Kozak
Knew when i saw this that he'd by running that mouth. Awesome musician, saw them 77ish at James Madison University with The Tams. Great show. FF to the 2000's, and I could sugar-coat it, but he rambled and rambled and kept having to remember to sing instead of telling tales ..Fun Fest Kingsport TN just hush for 1 dang second ! He was just like this in the middle of a song! Lpl
I checked the setlist.fm website and I didn't find that the Marshall Tucker played a show in Ocala in 1974. If you are sure it was 1974, the two closest shows to Ocala were at The Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg, FL on September 20, 1974. That show also had Elvin Bishop and The Outlaws on the bill. The other nearby show was on October 1, 1974 at The Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum in Jacksonville, FL with Jo Jo Gunne also on that bill. Keep in mind that setlist.fm isn't 100% reliable (kinda like wikipedia), but it's better than nothing. Of course they've played many times in Florida over the years, but I couldn't find a date in Ocala. I hope that helps.
Why do Trump supporters make everything about politics? It rained... it's Hillary's fault. There was an earthquake. It's Obama's fault. Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi! Trump supporters try to overthrow the government. It's Biden's fault.
Fuck you I vote TRUMP !!! AND I'M NOT A DEMOCRAT, I AM A MUSICIAN AND HAVE BEEN FOR 50 YEARS . I KNOW PAUL RIDDLE AND TOY CALDWELL(R I.P.). -THE DOUG GRAY BAND- IS WHAT IT SHOULD BE !!
You did suck, the last two times I saw you...the sound changed and I don't know whether ya'll were trying to adapt to the newer generations...but when you lost the steel guitar and the fiddle, you were no longer The Marshall Tucker Band I so loved to hear.
Roy Pooser ...I'm sure they are blown...I must say he did put a lot of wear throughout the years...an unusual pitch that was not easily matched...I find him a little arrogant for my praise.
@Gary Daniel As we all age, we are not going to be the same as we used to be. There are musicians who are not like they once were, because they are affected by age. I heard that about Paul McCartney.
I agree...bands like this with only one original member should stop trading on the name that made them and retire it. IT DOES NOT SOUND THE SAME NOR AS GOOD! No one but Toy Caldwell can sing "Cant you see?" with the same feeling or conviction
I saw them open for the Guess Who in '73. Nobody knew anything about them when we walked in the door. We ALL never forgot them when we left.
Where? I was sitting on the stage with The Guess Who, 1973 tour, Montgomery, AL.
Doug Gray..I've been listening to him sing for over 40 years.. damn where did the time go ..
Scott Allen me too !
Scott Allen i got into this amazing band probably 5 years ago, amazing how your generation passes onto mine to live on
Me as well...

I barely remember the orange sunshine,
I graduated in 1977. There was no way to miss MTB. Y'all made my entire life better. Thanks for all of my wonderful memories. Keep Rocking it guys
I also graduated in 77. My mother sang in a gospel group and we went to a local radio station in Macon where they brocast a show including MTB. They were all so nice to us. Very respectful
Doug had such a sweet range. Between his voice and Toy's guitar and this Yankee was hooked.
that was a great interview. Doug comes across as down to earth, really good guy.
Never heard you mention Paul T Riddle ! One heck of a drummer . I love how he play the cymbals . He knew what he was doing to add to the Tucker sound !
I have hung out with these boys and i can tell u that they are in my heart, god bless u TUCKER BOYS

Such a fantastic voice! Loved this guy’s singing
A true Southern Rock Gentleman!! Gave me various opportunities through the years to sing with him! Thanks buddy!! Will always love the MTB!!
Doug is just a flat-out legend. His work with MTB has given me so much joy over so many years and that's the highest compliment I can give an artist.
I seen them in the 70’s , many times! Great music...

I Should Have Never Started Loving You: My favorite off Carolina Dreams. Thank you Doug Gray!

Great stories from Doug Gray. MTB...true southern rock legends.
I could sit on the front porch with him sippin' coffee and just listen to him talk about the band all mornin' long and still would want to hear more.
Always enjoy the stories that Doug always has to tell .. it’s the best thing ever to hear the stories of his life and the heart of his music and friendship with MTB .. he has such a amazing sense to humor..
God Bless You Brother ! Saw you about 25 years ago in Tucson. Good to see your doing well, long time fan.

I’ve seen em six times. Wore outCarolina dreams albums twice. Your the best Doug Grey and the Marshall Tucker band!

Doug Gray is one of my favourite singers of all time , and that takes in some great singers . I love MTB !

Great to hear his stories, The Marshall Tucker Band was always one of my favorites.
I grew up near Doug's home and we knew each other from about age 16. during high school one of Doug's favorite sayings was "kiss my loo-tis-a-ble" he was quite a character.

It would be a honor to meet you.
I saw the Marshall Tucker Band at The Rupp Arena, in Lexington, KY, in 1980, while I was a student at The University of Cincinnati. Excellent-show.
Priceless !
Saw them around the late 80's in a small venue in Casper Wy, showtime was 8pm and heard they played all night!, regret leaving at 2 AM missed out for sure.
Saw them in 77 in Cheney. Great concert because they had such a good time with the crowd.l
I never saw Marshall Tucker .. one of my biggest regrets in life and they were actually playing about 60 miles from me and I stayed home and listened to their music on the stereo.
Although Doug is the only original left, they are still touring. Saw them two nights ago in Ft Myers. Great show.
Just love a great interview with a HOME GROWN WOMAN in my life.. the stories he could tell would be legendary..
I've seen them twice, 1988 and 2012. They rocked both times, didnt miss a step
Your music is in my heart and sole forever. I love it. I want your shirt. Let me know if you want to give it up. May your humble spirt rock on forever. Many thanks for your story.
respects,

I enjoyed the interview.
It would be nice to know WHEN the interview occurred.
God Bless America!!

why this band isnt in the rock hall is a insalt to real music
Southern Rock Royalty right there
just one of those bands you know you love on the 1st note, Providence, RI. 77-78? Civic Center with Jonathan Edwards and Pure Prairie League. Ayotte Brothers, Mark Calderone and jansie Kozak
That’s what you call a Southern gentleman.
Yes Brother....Genuine. ..their music kept me company many nights running to the east coast back in the days....
Knew when i saw this that he'd by running that mouth. Awesome musician, saw them 77ish at James Madison University with The Tams.
Great show. FF to the 2000's, and I could sugar-coat it, but he rambled and rambled and kept having to remember to sing instead of telling tales ..Fun Fest Kingsport TN
just hush for 1 dang second ! He was just like this in the middle of a song! Lpl
Saw him a month ago. He is still killin it...with an incredible band
UGA Stegman Coliseum years ago. Pretty much unknown but had that place rocking. Knew they would change Southern rock music for the better
Saw MTB at Nassau Coliseum in 1980 , running like the wind, 3 months before Tommy’s accident
Saw them in Ocala in '74. Best concert ever. Can't remember who opened for them - anyone know?
I checked the setlist.fm website and I didn't find that the Marshall Tucker played a show in Ocala in 1974.

Of course they've played many times in Florida over the years, but I couldn't find a date in Ocala.
I hope that helps.
I liked these boys before I could spell marshel. ...I still can't so I must really love them now....
So humble,, glad he was able to keep working but sure miss TC.. Doug is correct about Gregg Allman as well, never be another like him.
Doug says he did the laugh to "Wipe Out" in '55. As far as I know, that song didn't even come out until '62. Is he confused or am I missing something?
He was also saying they didn't have cellphones on the tour bus in '55. He was 7 years old. lol
My favvvvvv LOVE
what a gent
Marshall Tucker is old AF but I still like him. My favorite is the devil went down to Georgia.
Not to cast aspersions on Doug's memories but I'm pretty sure that Wipeout was first recorded and released somewhere around 1962, not 1955.
Damn!
The 17 people that gave this a thumbs down, .must be democrats!
LoL....
Why do Trump supporters make everything about politics? It rained... it's Hillary's fault. There was an earthquake. It's Obama's fault. Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi! Trump supporters try to overthrow the government. It's Biden's fault.

CAMERA IS NOT CLOSE ENOUGH!!!!!
Were Doug and Toy drafted? Anyone know?
❤🙏🎼😁
Doug’s still got rambling on his mind lol
last original member of the band
I never knew the guy might be part Native American.
So?
Go check out Blackberry Smoke And Whiskey Myers ?
Cow palace. San Francisco long about 1980. Tucker band Marino and gamma. It worked.
The MTB was so far above the ABB. The MTB was the greatest southern rock band of all time.
Cool
Date of this interview?
Did you watch it? Date is noted.
Doesn't say date, only date this was posted on UA-cam which is not interview date
Very likeable man
But his voice is gone and he needs to quit singing publically.
Bad interview...never paused for a question...though you were right about one thing, they'll never be a better singer than Gregg Allman.
They were great in their day,but I just saw them in Myrtle Beach and they stunk up the joint.lots of people walked out including me.
What made them so bad? I am contemplating going to see them.
@@adamhaas3168 just watched 2019 show on UA-cam, chris hicks looks pretty good on guitar and vocals
You did suck, the last two times I saw you...the sound changed and I don't know whether ya'll were trying to adapt to the newer generations...but when you lost the steel guitar and the fiddle, you were no longer The Marshall Tucker Band I so loved to hear.
Sounds like his vocal cords are blown and probably are. He just can't quit!
Roy Pooser ...I'm sure they are blown...I must say he did put a lot of wear throughout the years...an unusual pitch that was not easily matched...I find him a little arrogant for my praise.
