  • Why i'm selling the rocket 3 roadster. This bike is brand new, 2016 less than one thousand miles on it. Decided Adventure motorcycles are a better fit for me.

    Can't believe how much you are talking down your bike . The Rocket III is an absolute marvel and that fairing you put on it makes it highly desirable . I just got my M109r but the Rocket will likely be my next motorcycle. Hope you sell it fast. It may not have worked out for you but don't underestimate what you're riding, this bike is just fantastic.

      I agree the bike is fantastic, I've made other videos sharing what I like so much about it. My biggest concern with the bike was the comfort for long trips and minimal aftermarket accessories. I just saw a new 2017 on sale for 11,999...These bikes do not hold value and are hard to move unless you make a deal

      Northern Nomad Not sure I buy the depreciation argument. Its going to depreciate much slower than a harley and costs a hell of lot less for a hell of a lot more bike.

    That's a beautiful Rocket 3, maybe the nicest I've ever seen. By the way, there's a remedy for every negative you listed about the bike so you may want to rethink your decision to sell.

    Wind? If wind bothers you then maybe you shouldn’t be on a bike. That harley fairing looks awful on the rocket. I have the same year Roadster, with factory bags and I find it very comfortable and smooth as glass. I do 300 miles easy in an afternoon with no pain or fatigue. Its far more comfortable, smooth, powerful and handles better then any Harley I’ve ever ridden. Sure, it’s not for you, I get that but the rocket is a phenomenal motorcycle.

    Funny about Corbin screwing up your paint. I got a Corbin fairing for my Triumph Thunderbird.. and had nothing short of a terrible experience with them. And you're right.. they screwed up my paint too. I refused to accept it.. and disputed the charge on my credit card. It was a horrible buying experience.

    Blow me. Rocket 2015 X bought in Oct 2015. Now at 31,000 miles, Ramair , Viking Exhaust and a good tune. Running at 155 horse back wheel at 195 pounds of torque. Very comfortable ride. Progressive shocks installed plus a 140 front tire.Handles like a champ. You will look good in my rear view mirror after a 500 mile ride. No cup holders.

      Im 5'9" and have no trouble at all with my 2014 Rocket III Roadster fitted with the TORS system from new
      I've had the bike from new and despite the new 2500cc Rocket III R replacing the older model, I'll not be changing it anytime soon if ever
      The only problem with the original model Rocket III that I can think of is that everything else is essentially second best

  • @1990-t1j
    @1990-t1j 7 років тому +6

    That fairing ruins the look of the bike. Why did you only do 1,000 miles? An awful lot of expense which you won't get back. When I test rode a Rocket Roadster I thought it was very comfortable. I also used to have a R1100GS and felt the bars were too high. My Buell Ulysses is much more comfortable because you tilt forward slightly on it.
    Good luck with the sale. It is a niche bike and as such you may find you should have left it standard. Let us know how you get on. I, for one, will be really interested.

  • @MrZohan8

    Dan Smith, You sir are absolutely correct! I've put a 1000 mile ride on my R3 enroute to Sturgis; this is not a niche bike {maybe for a small guy}. R3 is an interstate monster, no need to downshift when passing 18 wheelers, 185 miles to the tank avg speed limit + ; )My R3 has taken me to the Dragon 2 times, Rt 66 to Santa Monica Blvd 2 times (I live in the Midwest). It snaps necks of those you pass by or the rider him/herself blipppin' the throttle. I would NOT recommend this bike for small adults as stipulated by the host of the video. You wanna beast with tableside manners then learn how to respect the engineering of this machine and you shall receive. DAaaanggGG!! R3 is one heckuva ride. Power, comfort, range, dependability, looks, PRESENCE.GIT U SOMMA THAT : )

    For added comfort, I feel you might benefit from having the seat actually on the bike. :-) On a more serious note, I'm 5.10 and have been riding my R3R for 6 years now. The best thing I ever did was remove the screen. The screen created ridiculous buffeting at my height and the improvement upon removal was remarkable. Have ridden it in great comfort from one side of Australia to the other. I find the Rocket I!I to be very docile and easy to ride.

    Ignore the muppets. I get your pt re ergos and what you need for the riding you do and resale. I owned a bmw r 12GS, own a bmw hp2 enduro and own a rocket roadster. I thought it was a fair review focused on your needs. Good to great review imo. Rocket is a niche bike and resale suffers for it. Bmw is def better for what you want. That's why it is a best seller. I put 80k on my GS in 2 yrs. You picked the right bike. I do tour on my rocket and hp2 but they aren't as comfy etc all that you said compared to the GS.

  • @kevinappleby7892

    Its such a shame you didn't get on with the bike nomad. I've owned a rocket 3 for 4 months and done around 1500 miles, very quickly upon buying I realised that this bike is good for dry miles and 100 mile bursts if in stock condition. I also looked at trading in against a Kawasaki Concourse to have more of a touring option however it felt like riding a plastic moped compared to my R3. I now feel that I can never part with it as it has become my bike for me and despite the fact its difficult to ride in some respects, tight corners and small roundabouts are a challenge, I have learned to respect that although it has its foibles, nothing puts a bigger smile on my face !!
    I ride in North Wales UK most sunny evenings and it always turns heads, sounds like a an angry dragon and sometimes acts like one !
    Good luck with the sale, there's always something for everyone and it will be worth holding out for that niche buyer as I was one 4 months ago ........

    I thought seriously about the Rocket 3 and the main reason I chose the M109R instead was the seat height. It’s also a massive bike at 347kg wet, 118ftlb torque and 123 BHP but the difference is I can flatfoot it. On the move the weight of both bikes melts away but when you’re trying slow / tight manoeuvres or waiting at the lights it can become an issue. Balancing 350+ lbs on your toes is not ideal.

    ......I was wondering why you were dissing the TR3 as much as you were. But, you eventually shed light on it when you communicated your body type/size. You simply bought a bike without thinking first. You bought a bike that's way out of your weight class. At 5'9 and what....170#s or thereabouts. If you couldn't identify that the Rockets weight alone should have been a strong indicator that you should be shopping for what you inevitably bought, than your spindle like legs would let you know soon enough that you're just too small for a big boy bike like this. At 6'5 1/2" and 275#s, the Rocket is a Dream for me.

    • @dickjohnson5025
      @dickjohnson5025 6 років тому +1

      jon Neat I’m gonna respectfully disagree. I’m 5’9”, 200lbs and have no issues on my rocket. Size of the bike is not the issue. I’ve seen ladies, around 5 ft just over 100lbs toss around a harley (not sportster) with some amazing skills. The rocket, for its size, is easy to ride and handles like a dream due to very low center of gravity.

    • @justinneill5003
      @justinneill5003 6 років тому +1

      I'm 5'8* and 172 lbs and handling my M109R is child's play for me. Yes the Rocket 3 is a tad heavier, but not much. If you know what you're doing there is no problem.

    I find the Rocket comfy. But dont understand why guys buy them and change things to make it there own. Then complain its uncomfortable. Ive seen others complain. But riding with after market parts like handle bars. I guess they should 1st consider comfort before changing things. Or buy a bike that has the looks they want with the comfort there looking for. Personally im happy with standard bars and seat. Ive given up my two bikes for the rocket. Yet I cant fault either the Tiger 800, Or the 1050 Sprint GT. Other than my comfort on long rides, Or my partners on the other. The rocket suites us both. Good compromise I feel.

I take 10-12hr trips on mine and I love it. very comfortable. I am surprised you are not happy with it. Still though... I can see you really care for your bikes, I wish I would have know I would have bought yours in a second.

    The rocket will simply rip off the beemer and u r right, cannot keep up, as can a lot more. And it is a mistake to think the dual sport bike is more confy on the long track. I own R3 now and sold BMW F800gs and r1150gs and bunch of other bikes and can assure you, those bikes are not long distance comfortable machines, they are maid to pass through a dirt road.

    Each to their own. I do some Iron Butt rides. I have used a GS1200 and while it did the run I could have cried when I got off after 1019 miles and almost did at the thought of having to ride back to the hotel afterwards. I had it for 5 years and toured Europe doing 5/600 mile days without much discomfort. After 600miles, for me, it was all downhill. I bought a rocket thinking I wouldn't do many more 1000milers in 24hrs. I did after a few months and was amazed at the difference. I did 1027 miles in just over 20hrs and could have carried on for a further 500 if I had the forethought to plan for it. The bike is a long distance sweetie. All I had done to it was the touring screen, bars pulled back and some highway pegs on the front crash bars as I have a knee issue that needs me to straighten my leg regularly. I sold it and looked at buying a GTL or RT1200 but eventually bought another rocket as I plan to do a few more 1000milers now I know it can be done with a bit more comfort. If you are only doing touring then the GS will do the job though the RT would have been a better buy. At 5'9ish you will get fed up with the GS. It used to wear me down and I am only slightly taller. Here in the UK GS's hold there price reasonably well, but you need to do the deal as there are dozens of them on sale at any one time. If you have mileage over 6000 then even more so.

      Jack Caldwell thanks for the reply. I have a lot of respect for someone can ride an iron butt on any cruiser...I've owned and ridden multiple cruisers in the past and comfort has always been an issue for me. I don't know if it's just how my body sits on the bike but after a couple hours I'm always feeling it...I've put over 14,000 miles on the gs and will never go back to any other riding style for long distance as the bike keeps my body upright. Like I've said in the video and in other replys, the rocket is a great bike just not for me on a 4 day nonstop trip.

      The rocket is my second cruiser as I had a Bonneville America a few years back. It was not a long distance machine no matter how comfortable I tried to make it. The one thing a big trail bike does is keeps you upright so I understand where you are coming from. I have owned and ridden many starting with an Africa Twin many years ago that I have been sick about selling ever since. Of all of the big trailbikes I have had the GS was the most comfortable for medium to longer distances. I still have a GS800 and a Ducati Multistrada and have done a relatively comfortable 1400miles in 36hrs with the Multistrada. The wee GS is good for country roads, but while capable I don't see it as along distance machine. For me its as much about the bike as me and the Rocket works well in that regard. It is never stressed on the road when doing the distance. Like the GS it needs some work on the saddle to minimise stress on me, but I will get that right in due course. Good luck and many happy miles on the GS.
