      +XXXDEADHEAD MOTOVLOGS It was a gem of a bike. The comfort level was pretty unreal for me. Biggest thing I had to get used to was forward controls, but after 5 minutes with them, I was in love. The torque being so down low was like nothing I've ridden before, to include my torquey as hell Tuono lol

    • @XXXDeadhead
      @XXXDeadhead 8 років тому

      +DukeOfDC yeah - that torque is from the cruiser side - I mainly ride cruisers on my channel though I have tested the fz09... This bike is similar to me as a cruiser, part Harley Breakout and Part Fz09... All Ducati

      +Geir Gundersen Great advice! Yeah, it seemed rather sketchy to just be able to dump the clutch. I would hope people would start out slow with the launch control and then get more comfortable with the function.

    I'm interested in this (I have the original version) and the Aprili Tuono v4 Factoy. Tough call between the two, almost a decision of form over function, the Aprilia being the better handling bike and to me at least the Ducati being the best looking with the most 'presence'. Would be interested to know which you prefer having ridden both relatively recently.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      I really enjoyed riding the Diavel, but you're right it's almost a style choice, and the Tuono just speaks to me a bit more.

      +Raudel Hernandez It was radical. The thing I can't stress enough is for anyone with the opportunity to go out and try one of these because you're right, the sensation is lost unless you try it yourself.

    My woman riding friend just bought one. She likes it very much for it rides/handles very well. Needs more color options and the bike also needs a full exhaust system (about $3K) because the factory set-up sounds like a lawn mower.

  • @awdeveau
    @awdeveau 8 років тому

    Wow you couldn't have picked a better bike to take a first ride on. I have been looking at these quite hard lately.
    Where my leg broke just above my knee I have quite a bit of pain in my knee and I'm worried if I replace the Tuono with another Tuono if I will still be comfortable riding it.
    It will definitely be a hard decision because I am still absolutely in love with the Tuono, and the price tag of that Ducati scares me a little bit.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      +awdeveau I'm a mind reader ;) This bike might be perfect for you man. The fact alone that you have 60 different ergo positions is pretty incredible, and with a bad knee it would make a big difference. It's no where near as nimble as the Tuono, but the chassis still felt incredible.

  • @RickRicksMotorbikeChannel
    @RickRicksMotorbikeChannel 7 років тому

    Great review! Had a chance to try the bike myself, the acceleration is definitely a lot faster than any traditional American cruiser. But the bike handles somehow strange, at very low speed the turning radius is huge, because of the long wheelbase(over 1.6m) and 30 degree rake. At speed, it turns very light and quickly, but in the turn, it feels strange because the 240mm rear tire, the contact patch is far away from the bike's center line. The launch control is more a launch assist, you release the clutch progressively, without practice, launch control can be slower than "manual" start. With that much power underneath you, it's scary to release the clutch at full throttle and over 9k rpm. The foot pegs are high off the ground, to give that 40 degree lean angle, but for me it's too high, and too far forward. It could be a better bike, or better cruiser, if, the wheel base is shorter, the rake is smaller, the rear tire is 200mm, and the rider triangle is more neutral, less cruiser-ish. Looks awesome though. Everyone I meet says, that's a sexy bike!

    Love this bike! I was considering it for 2 up riding but the passenger seat is the size of a folded up napkin. The Diavels passenger seat was much better and comfortable. I may just keep my Multistrada and get this for solo rides.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      +Tito Matias They have the cool passenger seat back for the normal Diavel, right? The multistrada has been a bike that I would adore taking across country. Which yeah Multi do you have?

    • @titomatias1576
      @titomatias1576 8 років тому

      +DukeOfDC I rode the XDiavel S and loved it! The guys at the parts dept told me..that for now that is the only passenger seat option they have. The Diavels passenger seat was wider and very comfortable. Hopefully they will offer a similar type passenger seat for the XDiavel in the near future. I have a 2011 Multistrada S which I love but that XDiavel is beautifull

  • @dimicallens

    Great vid. Worth a re-view :) Would have been nice if you were able to move the bike around in corners. How does the 240 rear tire affect steering?

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      +Dimitri Callens It was smooth as butter man. I was mindful of the HUGE 240 rear section tire before heading out, but the bike fits perfectly to the wheel and the steering is unaffected. Thanks for the support!

    • @dimicallens
      @dimicallens 8 років тому

      +DukeOfDC OK, with that info I had to test it myself. Man, this bike is, well, odd - in a good way. You can just cruise around comfortably. You can twist the throttle and have the kick of magnificent acceleration. And, you can indeed flick the bike quite easily: it is no superbike, but it handles definitely more like a racebike than like a cruiser which is kinda strange because of that massive rear tire and overall length/weight of it. A seasoned cruiser will probably not value the engine's displeasured thumping at below 4k rpm, but I did not care: just keep it above that. Very strange combo of riding styles. I liked it a bit too much to not buy it I am afraid, damn you Xdiavel :)

    Actually Variable Valve Timing has been around in bikes for quite some time now. Honda first integrated it into the vfr800 interceptor in 2002.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      +Gates Shrack Interesting. Why do you think Ducati is claiming so much attention for their system now? If you google "motorcycle variable valve timing" Ducatis name pops up everywhere.

    • @TheGatesshrack
      @TheGatesshrack 8 років тому

      There system is no doubt much more advanced than Hondas original VTEC-E system which really variated the amount of valves opening as opposed to variating there timing per say

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      Gates Shrack Ahhh so technically Ducati's implementation is the first true variable value timing system, but certainly not the first variable valve system. The XDiavel was a buttery smooth bike to boot, so the system is working like a gem on this model. It's interesting to see the fueling issues in the new Multi though - with that dead spot in the mid range.

    great review! i still like the original diavel. i don't see a harley guy going for this bike. they clearly have the most loyal customer base. it will sell limited amount in the US.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      +Becker Inal You're spot on there, the Harley riders are certainly loyal, and after doing some more searching last night it looks like the Diavel is an exact replica of the Suzuki M109R so perhaps there is a Japanese market that they are trying to take over. The Ducati screams high-end and this model specifically is just kitted out with goodies.

    • @taniond729
      @taniond729 8 років тому

      +DukeOfDC I think the XDiavel is a cool ass bike. Definitely the coolest "cruiser" out there. I used to have an M109R and R2, the X Diavel looks nothing like either in my opinion. The 109Rs dwarf the XDiavel in size and weight and have way more plastic. I do think they occupy the same niche though.

    • @golferchin76
      @golferchin76 8 років тому +1

      +DukeOfDC
      The Suzuki M109R was designed for the North American market. It's a huge cruiser. Same as the VTX1800, and other large displacement Japanese v-twin cruisers of that time (this started more than 10 years ago). Very large motorcycles. They were not designed for the Japanese market. They have their own loyal fan base around the world. Inexpensive, lots of aftermarket parts.
      When Ducati unveiled Diavel at 2010's EICMA it shocked the motorcycle world. It looked part cruiser, part something very unique very high tech and modern and sleek, with the performance to tear up the asphalt. Basically Ducati created a new market for the company.
      The 1st gen Diavel was a success. It definitely was one of a kind of its era. This 2nd generation surprisingly did not disappoint (many bike's 2nd gen disappoints). I think it is going to be a hot seller. I think Ducati is trying to create something that the traditional cruisers of all brands lack in offer. Amazing performance, high tech, sleek design, and many things else. A Devil on the road that pulls from 0-60 under 3 seconds.
      A harley guy is going to be a harley guy. But we can also say that a Diavel rider is always going to be a Diavel rider. Both brands offer unique riding experiences, community.
      Ducati took a gamble and has done something very unique yet successful. Like a loyal fan base to its Monster line up. And reap the benefit of selling at a premium.

  • @DucatiDiaries
    @DucatiDiaries 8 років тому

    Kicking myself in the ASS for buying a 2015 Diavel when this bad boy came out only a year later. Would love to try the launch. Does it shift for you automatically? I'm seriously considering selling mine but the standard Diavel is kinda more aggressive looking so not sure. Thanks for the review.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      +M3DucatiMan No quickshifter on this bad ass machine, but I almost preferred it that way. The transmission was smooth as butter on it's own. There are still benefits to the standard Diavel, but if you love low end torque then this might be the right choice for you. Have you had a chance to take one for a test ride?

    • @DucatiDiaries
      @DucatiDiaries 8 років тому

      +DukeOfDC I'm a little disappointed in Ducati's communication on this. I have no idea if this is ultimately replacing the current Diavel, what the pro's and con's are of each, etc. I know the XDiavel leans even further toward 'cruiser' and the standard Diavel is a bit more powerful, but based on what you said about torque, now I'm not sure.
      Come on Ducati! Let's do a better job at communicating your bikes to your consumers.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 років тому

      M3DucatiMan I can't really speak to their marketing of this bike, but in terms of power, it delivers more torque at a much lower RPM, however the standard Diavel still has more horsepower and thus a stronger (minimally) top end.

    • @sergioferreira5771

    • @LinuxGalore

      Sergio [face palm] VTEC stands Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (Honda 1983). VTEC does two things in that it changes the valve timing and the valve lift. I think you are thinking of Toyota's VVTI, that only varies the valve timing but not the valve lift.

      I rode a 2011 Diavel back when it came out and yes it most certainly can! The demo I rode had the Termi exhaust and ecu and wheelied under hard acceleration. It's an amazing bike I can only imagine what the newest ones feel like.

    • @jamesalhussaini2373

      This model NO. They've stretched out the frame more so than the original. I have a 2013 Carbon Diavel with a full termi exhaust and that thing is an animal. Unfortunately what DukeofDC doesn't realize is that Ducati took away some power from the original into this even though they increased the CC size! Its apples to oranges. I love the original model because I can corner the shit out of it...this model not so much, but Ducati wanted to corner the market because a lot of people didn't like the placement of the pegs on the original Diavel. It is what it is. I love mine I test drove this model wasn't too fond of it, but maybe if I rode it more and threw on a termi exhaust (it woke mine up tremendously). No matter the outcome I will always choose a DUCATI DIAVEL over ANY HARLEY EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK! Harley doesn't have the POWER like Ducati.
      P.S DukeofDC... my 2013 Ducati Diavel Carbon = $21,399.Termignoni slip on's $2400 (yes $2400 for cans)Full termignoni exhaust $3600 + $425 for labor! Its an expensive habit, but if you want to play...you have to pay!

      Bernard Wilson If it's your first bike, but you're also looking for something more on the powerful end. I would look into a used FZ-07. That way you're saving some money and you get something good and powerful. Also, they're hot sellers, so when you want to upgrade, it wouldn't be an issue selling it again.

    Drawback is not so great for packing a passenger or carrying stuff without a backpack or touring is not practical. I guess most cruisers have those abilities so I say it’s more of a sport naked cafe bike with forward controls lol.

      ***** You'll never get 100% of the audio from these videos with a helmet setup, so possibly. When people hear my bike in person, it's a completely different beast haha

    • @osherbini
      @osherbini 8 років тому

      +Shaun H You're absolutely right; listening to this on tiny MacBook speakers is less than ideal.
      That being said, even with a professional recording/playback set-up, it's impossible to convey "true" exhaust notes and volumes. Example: I must have watched 100+ videos (cell phone clips to professional recordings) of an exhaust system I was planning on getting for my bike to get a sense of the sound. When I bought it and had it installed, it sounded sooo different in person than I had imagined. (Different as in *much* better.)

    I'm sure the XDiavel is a better bike, a faster bike, technologically superior, better design...than the HD V Rod. However, and this is only my opinion, but i think the V Rod is a prettier bike at a lower price (starting $16k). (The XDiavel headlight and radiator sides looks kinda like a crab...to me...and the features will look dated five years from now.)
