  • In our continuing effort to revisit the historical military rifles of WWI and WWII, its now time to take a closer look at the Italian Carcano series of bolt actions.
    In part 4, we look at the last Carcano variants designed by Italy during World War II.
    We begin with the Fucile di Fanteria Mod. 1938 or M38 Short rifle, which was chambered for the new 7.35x51mm round.
    But the new caliber did not last long, so was soon replaced by the M91/38 series, which was a return to 6.5x52mm.
    Finally, we look at the M38S or M91/38S, which was a variant built to fire the 7.92x57mm Mauser round.
