Hi Agad, I don't have an OCD or anything. But, I couldn't help myself noticing that the H file is trimmed a bit. It appears to me that the H file do not have full squares. Possible to resize the board? #suggestion

Duda is really a great player, he has amazing insights and ideas. His problems are all those singe moves he misses. He just keeps getting great positions and messes them up. If he manages to work this issue out, he has potential to reach 2800 and become a worthy challenger. Happy to see him winning today.

What a combination. I'm always amazed how nonchalantly JKD plays out his games, as it seems, in classic strategic terms. Hearing about engine moves, I was sure he'd got a whip again from Fabiano. What a nice surprise. It's like his style has borne fruit, and in a great way.
I like that the players are all going for it and taking chances and not playing it safe. It would be easy to avoid defeats in some of these games but the players know they have to catch up and thus are all taking risks.
I was listening to this song earlier while working and checking the games, fun coincidence. And well done, Duda, this candidates came a bit too early for him but I trust he'll be one of the favourites in 2 years.

Duda's combination beginning with f2-f4 12:29 leading to the main variation with Qf3 giving a double-attack on: (1) the h5-square; and, (2) the b7-Knight! 13:00 I had been solely focusing on ways to get White's Q to the h5-square, but totally forgot about that enduring Undefended Black Knight. Bam!
At 14:40, why not Rg6? It blocks the check from the Queen and attacks it. Why should King move? In this line, White Rook is far away from White King and Black Queen and Night are in the right locations to defend Black King or to harass White King giving plenty of scope for counter attack. At the least, Black can emerge ahead after exchanging Queen and Night while White Rook is stuck in the back rank. Am I missing something? Do you think Fabi missed this line under time pressure?

King has to take the rook (otherwise mate) then white's queen takes rook with check and can do some pawn gobbling with checks before coming back to defend and to try to exchange itself for the black queen. I've not run this through an engine, so no guarantee it works.

Nepo looked tired a couple days ago and he's been cruising ever since he's learning. Fabi is a great player but you could see him failing a couple days ago he doesn't have the physical endurance for this intensive struggle. And Magnus sure put the black spot on Ali. That’s a good move. I don’t know why Fabi left Night near the rim and made a seemingly useless Rook move. After you pointed, I analyzed and don’t see a flaw with it. What are we missing?
God damn... how can you have that idea of targetting the knight at the other side of the board by giving up 2 pawns in order to finally capture a bishop... while all of the action is taking place on the king side O_o
Like Humans congratulate each other by saying - "you played like an engine", do engines also congratulate each other by saying - "you played like a human?"
It just amazes me how Chess players at ''top level'' playing in the candidates can prepare for games at this level while using engines to see different variations and play the top engine moves at engine's first choice.
Great stuff. It appears that now Fabi (& previously Nakamura against Radjabov) learned not to try to take your shot against the player at the bottom--not in this tournament... They are all too strong even on their worst day.
hey agadmator i think the pause the video moments being too hard is a good thing it really makes you think, if we wanted a puzzle to solve that matched our rank we could use the various sites that offer that, but with it being hard it is not only challenging but also has greater impact on how you feel and think like its way more shocking if the move being revealed was an absolutely insane one yknow what i mean love u
Just before the pause the video moment, Duda was shaking his head in anger and frustration because he thought he allowed Caruana back into the game. I thought that was funny, he was so mad at himself and then won the game 2 moves later.
What an entertaining Candidates tournament. Every player has a win. No 0-14-0 Giri in the field and while yeah, Nepo is undefeated, the winless Duda wins a game against 2nd place Caruana. Even if there's a clear winner, I've been enjoying the mayhem underneath.
This is why it's so difficult to play aggressive chess w/o some deep preps these days. These super GMs are so strong at recognizing and punishing 'beautiful but objectively bad' moves nowadays. It happened to Rapport this round too
Hikaru played a heck of a king side attack against Alireza's Najdorf. Had a couple of key moments went his way in a couple of games he could be fighting for 1st place with Ian.

Somebody cut off the edge of the board on the H file. Agad didn't notice. Fortunately, neither did Duda or Caruana.

This might be my favorite game of the tournament...I loved this line from day one but seeing how this was played was a beautiful game
