@@lemir3559 because mostly "older" people get a heart decease / have a stroke I think the side effect don't show that much: "wow dad has never been the same after the heart attack". I had one when I was 40... Docters told me I would never be the old me but had to try to be the best version of the new me. It felt horrible. As you say: dementia. Or maybe even aphasia. Words just would not come up. My mind knew what I was trying to say, the words just would not be "translated from thoughts to words" to my mouth. I chose to be a fun dad and husband and maybe die at 70 than be like i was on statines and die an 80 year old.... (if I die next year I made the wrong choice 😇)

they directly (not side effect) cause rhabdomylosis, diabetes, liver damage, and dimentia. its why you have to get bloodwork done every 3 months while taking them. the warnings tell you to immediately ingorm your physician of any muscle pain, changes in urination, and/or memory issues. oh, yeah they cause heart attacks and strokes. they cause cell death (muscle pain) by interfering with the mevalonate pathway.

Instead, I lowered my cholesterol through diet and exercise (yoga, walking, and strength training). A high green, low fruit smoothie with 1/4 c of flax seeds twice a day, a gallon of water, and a giant salad but no oil, sugar, or animal products took mine from 252 to 149.

Protein counts as 4cal per gram but when you factor in the thermic effect of protein its closer to 3.5cal per gram. Fats are 9calories per gram, saturated unsaturated it dont mater fat is fat. Alcohol is 8cal per gram. Stay away from the drink if you wanna lose weight.
Find your maintenance calories by tracking your average intake over a period of 2 weeks where you are not gaining or losing weight.
Then make your calorie target 5-10% lower than your maintenance level.
Obviously if your over by 50 calories on one day and under 35 on another its close enough.
Eat more filling food options that are less calories dense, this helps A LOT with sticking to a diet. If your always hungry the diet aint gonna last long.
Compound this with a three 15 min walks a day and its a good foundation for most people to steadily lose weight. Its not the fast diet everyone wants, but these principles helped me figure out a diet that worked for me.

There’s a reason why these medicines are in business and it’s based on decades of scientific data. There needs to be a better personalised lifestyle approach based on individual medical response. But that’s not easy….just thinking out loud.

I have 2 kids naturaly, no epidural and i am telling you this muscle pin is worst than that. Mine was in one hip and legs. You can’t tell if its muscle or bone or both that hurt. It will wake you up every nigh. You can’t move without ouch-ing. You need pain meds. The worst is when you’re resting. I started using walking stick. And i was in that pain for 2 years. When i couldn’t pick up 1 liter of milk that was the time i decided to stop with statins. After 2 months no pain. Just like that. But now my ldl is 140 and donmt know what to do. I would add that with the side effects in mind as with any medication if you’re worried about it, don’t just stop taking it without first talking to your doctor about the risks and potential benefits and other options or supplements or lifestyle changes that you could possibly make to safely come off these. Statins may decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke. But I hate statins.

I was going without medication about a year before I ask my doctor to check my cholesterol again. Surprisingly it was still high after eating whole food plant based for a year. My doctor still was pushing the statin. I believe her that is the most effective medication for lower cholesterol but the pain was too much. Now I am on ezetimibe. My doctor said it won’t have that many side effects but also not effective. She said she will check my cholesterol 6 months after being on the new medication 🤷🏼‍♀️ I hope it works because so far no side effects.

    • @terrapinflyer273
      @terrapinflyer273 Рік тому +3

Any news on results after taking ezetimibe instead? My mom, grandma, and aunt are all on statins. My aunt claims to not have any side effects (from any of her meds), but she is incredibly naive in general. My grandma started taking them and began having severe and progressive memory issues (possibly unrelated... possibly not), and my mom has had noticeable memory issues in my opinion since she started on them as well as having sleep attacks. Which used to be most noticeable after eating. But sometimes seeminly at random. And once or twice a week she'll sit on the edge of the bed and fall either because of her sleep issues or possibly blood pressure perhaps... Perhaps both factor in.
It is terrifying to deal with. Doctors really overprescribe statins (in my opinion) when patients don't really need it and to minimal benefit, statistically speaking. Then don't monitor potential side effects or correllate aforementioned side effects to statins possibly being the culprit. The way healthcare is run these days just absolutely infuriates me...

I have gone from 10 mg to 80mg and back to 40mg, as the cholesterol went right down. We are keeping it fine tuned every 3 months. There is a story out there that says if it melts cholesterol it can also melt brain cells. This med is like having one foot on a roller skate and the other on a banana skin.

I have chronic pain anyway. Even though I have clear arteries and good heart, normal bp, heart rate cholesterol and ldl, they wanted me to take statins after a very small stroke(no effects)that they don’t know cause. After 31/2 months I got new pain in hamstrings, I couldn’t walk for more than a few minutes and couldn’t stand for more than 5. Despite keeping a positive attitude with disabling back pain, this made me start musing that it might not be worth being alive.
Better after 3 weeks off it
A friend of mine was hospitalized for 2 weeks unable to walk, and 2 weeks in rehabilitation after starting a different statin 3 months before. No positive cause, neurologist says it’s new statin. 2 days after stopping it he was able to lift legs again.
My sister takes them and and has no problems.
If I can’t find one that doesn’t do that to me, I will accept having a shorter life. It was that bad

Oh my doctor wanted to put me on a statin and I said no and then he suggested Ripatte but my insurance didn’t cover it and then he suggested PRALUENT which is a shot you take every week and I haven’t taken it yet because I don’t think I want my cholesterol to be lower and I want to check my LDL‘s to see if they are fluffy or they are the small bullet ones which are the problem. Because actually soldiers LDL‘s are necessary and if they’re fluffy which is usually 80% of them then those are the good guys and if they’re LDL‘s that are small bullets those are the bad guys that you don’t want. But I have low tragus glycerides and high HDL‘s and my cholesterol is only 249 which is not that bad. And I don’t want all the side effects that you can get from the path for from this other medicine you take every week. So I’m doing flushing niacin red rice yeast to see if that will fix a little bit of the cholesterol because you don’t want it too low and it doesn’t stop heart attacks or strokes. I guess I should be taking something because I have plaque in my carotid artery it is a slight problem.
I also had 1000 score for my calcium score which is a bit high but there are people who have low calcium scores and have heart attacks and strokes for people with low cholesterol and end up having strokes and heart attacks. So I’m going to try to lose weight and do other things to help lower my cholesterol a little bit. I’ve been cutting out saturated fat which I was eating a lot of cheese and dairy products. I lost my phone because it broke so I haven’t been able to be in touch with my doctors but when I am I will know more
Then I can make an informed decision.
