I agree with you. I always listen to my body and what it is trying to tell me. Those statins do not agree and I tried several. Don't trust Pharmaceutical or some doctors, especially when they push it.
In the original research (which they kept private for decades), here's what happened: 30% of people quit them almost immediately because of side effects. They didn't count those people. Out of the rest, of the people who had never had a heart attack, statins did nothing. Out of every thousand people who did have a previous heart attack, the risk of a second heart attack dropped from something like 78 out of a 1000 to about 55 out of a thousand. Statins had no impact on lifespan in either group.
According to one of the most comprehensive meta analysis studies published in the Journal of American Medicine a couple of years ago, the need-to-treat outcome was something along the lines of having to treat 80 people with statins for 5 years in order to reduce one heart attack. This study focused on absolute risk reduction vs. relative risk reduction. Pharmaceutical companies often cite relative risk reduction statics instead of absolute risk reduction. Relative risk reduction isn't the big picture because you're comparing a subset of participants, and this will often give you impressive results. Focus on absolute risk reduction instead.
My bf at 60yrs old, had cholestrol of 220. The dr told him about statins and told him he won't have to watch his diet and he can eat anything he wants. Now he buys $30 of McDonald's at a time! I wish someone would talk about the danger of giving people's this false sense of reality that you can eat anything you want when you are on a statin. And I don't care what anyone says, your body needs cholestrol.
Need to check Apo-b. Better indicator. Should be 79, or less. Mine is 139. Can't get it down with diet, so far. I'm 66. Thinking about low dose crestor. 5mg or less per day, or every other day. I understand that crestor, is also great for inflammation. Probably, the best statin on the market, if you're going to take one. Low dose only. There's no increased benefit over 10mg grams a day anyway, from what I've read. So, why doctor's put folks on a 40mg dose per day, of any statin, is beyond me. No wonder people have so many crazy side effects.
"Why doctor's put folks on a 40mg dose per day, of any statin?" I believe the reason almost everyone seems to be on statins these days is directly related to MONEY! As Treatment Centers are receiving large rebates from big pharma. Also some doctors may be in on the problem keeping the hospitals happy at our expense and related medical side effects from statins. How many people were prescribed Lipitor and derivatives, without informing the patient until recent investigations? I'm 83 yrs old and feel darn lucky to make it this long, without knowing what to ask? Uninformed not ignorant. Several doctors are trying to inform the public stating "They lied to us!"
5:46 She said "ACL" but I'm sure she meant A1C (A one C). ACL is the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee, while A1C is a common blood test used to diagnose type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The test is also used to monitor how well you're managing blood sugar levels. The A1C test is also called the glycated hemoglobin, glycosylated hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c test.
YES!!! I have tried stations 4 times and it has caused me so much pain in my feet and legs it bothered my ability to walk well, so I refuse Stations. Even now that I am off them my legs and feet have never been the same. NO statins for me.
A recent article in The Atlantic suggests a potential link between statin use and Limb Girdle Muscle Dystrophy! Stains have caused me physical aches and pains and have lessened my mobility. I have stopped taking them and have made the lifestyle changes recommended by Doctors and Dieticians. Here’s hoping it works!
Statins caused me no end of problems so I stopped using them and other meds for heart problems - my doctor told me that I'd be dead with 6 months.... 6 years later I am still alive and my doctor recently advised me to use them despite previous doctors told me that these meds ate not for me as I am intoletant of 'modern medications' .... they also want to test me for diabetes despite my not showing any symptoms....
Sorry Doctor Oz, starting a Statin and at the same time changing lifestyle habits is a bad idea. Why, 1, You won’t be able to tell which one is working better. 2. It is highly likely to have the patient not make the permanent changes they need with their life still habits. Why, because they will very likely conclude that taking a pill for life is easier. My sister went on a Statin and had serous body aches and memory loss, even if insurance pays for them that makes insurance cost increase dramatically. A bad idea any way you look at it!
Aside from foot and leg pain, I have IBS and it bothered that, also noticed changes in my abdomen size etc. Statins lowered the quality of ,y life. Never again. Still struggling will the effects. From having tried them four times. Nope. I'm done.
A lot of other things are anti-inflammatory, don't block cholesterol in the liver and block CO Q10 . Not cholesterol but grainy lipoproteins build up after delivering cholesterol to repair the arterial walls damaged by inflammation caused by high omega 6 oils.
I am going to try my diet change, exercise and red yeast rice, uric acid flush and omega 3 (fish oil) regiment before I crutch my liver in doing its job naturally. I have a 231. At first, I had a 282 and did a retest, because my CAC and chem stress test was good. ALWAYS retest your blood a week later with a different lab.
Research Red Yeast Rice. I was on it for 4 years and had to rush myself to the hospital with severe muscle spasms. I read taking Red Yeast Rice should be stopped at 4 years.
I found this very helpful. Going through this right now. My statin caused diarrhea for me. So Im off it for two weeks which will be followed by another blood test.🤞🙏

Dr oz had 2 leading cardiologists on his show once that declared cholesterol is a myth. Does anyone know the 2 des names because it seems you cant find it on UA-cam anymore....hmmm
Dr. Stephen Sinatra was probably one of them? There are many cardiologists who don't believe in the "cholesterol myth". I'm not a cardiologist, but I don't believe high cholesterol causes heart disease, either. If it did, why do half the people on a cardiologist's operating table have normal to low cholesterol?
He does such a BASIC, simplified presentation, doesn't cover so many things, e.g. Statins lower CoQ10 enzyme in the body, can cause hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia, the decreases of CoQ10 causes muscle pain, tendonitis of shouder, elbow, etc. Statins are also implicated in dementia, increase liver enzymes. To find out if you need statins, you should check a lipodologist to determine if your A protein is high and C reactive protein is positive, which woul affect your heart. Also the size of the LDl cholesterol.
Kaiser did a study of this calculators ability to predict cardiovascular disease. They found that it over exaggerated the risks by 600%. Unfortunately this did not cause them to change their push for patients to take statins. There are better solutions, such as low sugar diet and exercise.
I disagree with number 2. It’s been shown that high LDL doesn’t mean there’s a problem. If you have plaque confirmed by a CAC scan or CTA, then you should be on a statin.
The fact is statin use has not reduced heart disease! Indisputable! It’s proven that they add 4 days to every 5 years so if you fork out your dollars for 20 years you get 16 extra days to live! 💰💰💰💰
Nice to know what big pharma wants us to buy. Thanks dr salesmen, I mean Oz I don’t fit any of these categories but my doctor wants me on statins for life. And that’s all my doctor cares about, putting me on medication. Wellx here’s what I’ve got to say about that. There is no medication you can make that’s more powerful than eating Whole REAL Foods, staying active and giving our bodies time to fully digest and burn fat reserves.
The Jupiter trial was nefarious just like many other of these statin trials- it doesn’t lower inflammation - statins lower LDLs but do not prevent death. Look at the statistics at the average follow up at 1.9 years- even in their own tables there is no difference from year 1 to 2 ; metabolic syndrome in 71 more people in the placebo group, 51 more women in the control group and a NNT of over 100 - all the while 11 of 15 of the researchers had much to gain and the trial is in people with LDL below 130 that still have a heart disease issue. Along side this, many DRs are trying to lower LDLs even more down to 70 resulting from trials that failed but were presented positively- improving Insulin sensitivity should be the goal not helped by statins.
I would never take a statin. My TC is 355, my LDL is 270, but my HDL is 68, and my TRG is 85…and my hsCRP is 0.13. This means I have no inflammation. High cholesterol won’t clog healthy arteries. The same cholesterol that flows through arteries flow through veins as well, but you never find plaque in veins. Now for the studies. 75% of heart attacks happen in ppl with low/normal cholesterol. So why would I lower cholesterol? I changed my diet and got rid of inflammation. I ignored the dietary guidelines and eat mostly red meat. Inflammation is gone, I lost 60 lbs, and my arteries are clear…for 5 years now.
I just don't know. I have been off statins fora about 6 or 7 months now, but have a small buidup of plaque in my neck. I don't know if I had it there before. I am 72 and just don't feel they work. My good cholesterol is low, my bad cholesterol is high and so are my triglycerides. I have been pretty good with my diet, but I know that I really should be exercising more. Always tired, thyroid issues.
Question? I'm 66, with an Apo-b of 139. Should be 79 or less. Will Crestor/statin, lower Apo-b? Along with a proper diet & exercise. I know it lowers total cholesterol & LDL🤔
I whole heartedly, pun intended, disagree! LDL is not the cause of heart disease, though cholesterol plays a small part. The biggest risk is from diabetes, which statins increase your risk of getting by almost 70%. Plus the side effects can be debilitating and cause more harm than the 1% benefit from taking them. Diet changes are the cure, but no one makes money recommending that. I also notice the studies mentioned are not linked to in the description. I'd like to know who sponsored the studies, that'll always tell you the motives behind a result. You cannot trust a study that is paid for by the manufacturer of a drug! Big companies make billions off statins.

Almost killed me when the joints of the foot brock on the stairs because the toes went under and snapped them . Life almost ended and all because of this pill. Stop, What are you on! The problem is that you have a lifetime of bad advice. Every character at the scene of the accident is getting the blame. The role of cholesterol has been misinterpreted. Good / bad, if you hear that change channel, they are discussing a from & go movement, just like Vains & arteries. It's the blood & and the arteries where the problem lies, blood is scraping along the inside of your arteries under pressure from a heartbeat, misrepresented as continuous tubes. They more like the skin of an armadillo they contract and expand controled by the gas Nitric oxide with guidance from hydrogen, your blood started deteriorating from you 30th birthday, your blood was active, smooth, could slide down to your toes with a push from your heart, then you, sat down, the only excitement was watching a sports mach standing. You now take 9 pills a day, 5 of them for symptoms from the other
Took a statin and was in some much pain in my thighs, took Crestor was a little better but had to go down with my meds start on two pills in the week and now 3 pills in the week if I take more I’m in so much pain all over again, you have a solution???
but the other thing about Statin drugs is many doctors get kickbacks from the drug companies. YOu don't hear about that along with all of the bad side effects. I stopped my statin cold turkey and I feel so much better. we over medicate people. just for the almighty dollar.
I had a stroke at 69! Was put on a statin! After refusing it from my Dr. My ldl was high! I am not a big person. Lost plenty of weight! Don't smoke, don't drink, don't use drugs!
You were prescribed a statin, and refused it? Don't understand. You had a high LDL. How high was it, and for how long. Do you think that's why you had a stroke? Did you ever try the statin?🤔
I had a stroke at 69 also! I wasn't over weight, didn't drink, didn't smoke, didn't use drugs! Thought I was eating kinda healthy! Neourogist couldn't tell me why I had the stroke, but I was put on a statin, which added some extra aches and pain to me! Thinking about going on a lower dose of the statin!
Except that statins also cause inflammation for some people, which is exactly the opposite of what you want, and the opposite of what this video is falsely asserting.

Some of the comments assumed that everybody is going to have side effects. I’ve been on Crestor for 12 years and haven’t had any. I came off due to assuming it caused me muscle cramps which wasn’t the case and my cholesterol went from 135 to 295 four months, my triglycerides was 70 and it went up to 205. I restarted my meds. I use rosuvastatin 20mgs.I had two family member who died of a heart attack at 51 and another one at 61. I’m 53. I’m not taking any chances if I’m not having any side effects. They weren’t on cholesterol medication.
@ there is always an assumption compared to nothing. Unfortunately, sometimes our bodies aren’t designed the same, or differently, and may need help. Thank goodness we are in a age we are in, some before us didn’t have the medicine we have today. I had three family members died of heart attacks. unfortunately, I can’t take the risk of doing nothing, waiting for my turn. One thing certain is heart disease runs in my family, that is a guaranteed chance, I’m not willing to take the risk. My mom goes to the doctor regularly at 70, and so do I. Her mom who is my grandmother is the one that died at 61 so she surpassed her already. The one that died at 51 was her sister, the other one that died at 51 was my sister. She has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and borderline diabetes. Thank God that’s all I have and I recently just had a physical after moving to Colombia. 🇨🇴. My lifestyle is different than theirs so that might contribute to not having the rest of those things. My cholesterol is now 151. My blood pressure has dropped down to 116/79, was 147. my A1c was 5.1, now it’s 4.7. Overall, my health is improved changing countries, eating healthier foods, and the medication.
I was watching oz that day when brain surgeons on saying cholesterol important for our brains and doc oz said ‘I did not know that’!!He was surprised and said they do not teach that to much apparently.
My doctor refused to put me on statins when I had a bad reaction with my muscles. It has now been proven that Statins do Not help. Who is this guy? He must been getting paid by BIG PHARMA to promote statins. My doc said that doctors get paid to recommend people for certain therapies like statins and diabetes. I will never support BIG PHARMA so doctors should really take care of their patients without the kickbacks.

I cannot take statins. It makes my bones and joint hurt horribly.
Isn’t there two types of bad cholesterol
Take Zetia. Or the generic for it.
I can't take statins do you have something else to lower cholesterol
I have seen many many videos claiming statins only help one out of 100 people
I’ve seen videos of people swimming through magma. Does that make it true?
That’s not a helpful or informative answer.
Why do the Big Pharma "statin" companies manipulate the hell out of their research data UNLESS they are trying to hide something?
Which for statins is a 1% risk reduction. Not worth the damaging side effects.
I cant take them...cause severe muscle aches..cholesterol stays between 238 and 258..
Not really that bad
ACL is the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee, while
A1C is a common blood test used to diagnose type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Big pharma
Big Fearma!!!!
Also the many videos I am seeing are my heart surgeon and cardiologist saying they only help one out of 100 people
Take one 20g every two days
Sorry Doctor Oz, starting a Statin and at the same time changing lifestyle habits is a bad idea.
Why, 1, You won’t be able to tell which one is working better.
2. It is highly likely to have the patient not make the permanent changes they need with their life still habits. Why, because they will very likely conclude that taking a pill for life is easier.
My sister went on a Statin and had serous body aches and memory loss, even if insurance pays for them that makes insurance cost increase dramatically. A bad idea any way you look at it!
I've been on statins for year's never had any side affect
Aside from foot and leg pain, I have IBS and it bothered that, also noticed changes in my abdomen size etc. Statins lowered the quality of ,y life. Never again. Still struggling will the effects. From having tried them four times. Nope. I'm done.
HDL vs LDL ratio is more important to know if you need anything or not.
that is incorrect. HDL is now considered less of a factor
@@Coach49217
I've heard that triglycerides vs Hdl, is a better indicator. Along with Apo-b factors
Wrong
Tried them once and pain and fatigue were horrible. I choose quality of life and will never take them again.
I found this very helpful. Going through this right now. My statin caused diarrhea for me. So Im off it for two weeks which will be followed by another blood test.🤞🙏
My doc kept bugginh me because my #’s were high so i od $150 for a calcium score it turned at to be zero . #’s don’t tell the truth obviously i was quite surprised and so was doc
What about side effects, type 2 diabetes, early senility, liver damage, muscle damage etc etc
Thank you
Kaiser did a study of this calculators ability to predict cardiovascular disease. They found that it over exaggerated the risks by 600%. Unfortunately this did not cause them to change their push for patients to take statins. There are better solutions, such as low sugar diet and exercise.
How about zetia if muscle pain from statin?
I have tried 2 different kinds of statins. Both gave me awful leg pain. I still take one but I only take it every other day because of the pain.
I disagree with number 2. It’s been shown that high LDL doesn’t mean there’s a problem. If you have plaque confirmed by a CAC scan or CTA, then you should be on a statin.
There are people with great LDL numbers on statin who still manage to end up on the operating table for bypass.
Or.. change your diet.
@@stayingstrong57 And that’s a good thing.
The fact is statin use has not reduced heart disease! Indisputable! It’s proven that they add 4 days to every 5 years so if you fork out your dollars for 20 years you get 16 extra days to live! 💰💰💰💰
ABSOLUTELY NOBODY SHOULD BE ON A STATIN DRUG
How much is Oz being paid here?
Nice to know what big pharma wants us to buy.
Thanks dr salesmen, I mean Oz
I don’t fit any of these categories but my doctor wants me on statins for life.
And that’s all my doctor cares about, putting me on medication.
Wellx here’s what I’ve got to say about that.
There is no medication you can make that’s more powerful than eating Whole REAL Foods, staying active and giving our bodies time to fully digest and burn fat reserves.
excellent presentation
What hsCRP means?
It’s a marker for inflammation. High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein.
@@rodhorton851 👍
Only a “risk” does not mean you will - should be a discussion but always the final decision is the patients and pressure should not be applied.
Keep in mind to take 200mg of CoQ10 per day with statins and vitamin D. This should minimize side effects of statins.
That didn't work for me.
@@SherriBarrett I take Crestor 10mg daily. You may be on a different statin and dose. In 3 months my LDLs went from 86 to 33.
Statins are poison, period. Why no mention of the study showing little to no benefit in terms of longevity?
I just don't know. I have been off statins fora about 6 or 7 months now, but have a small buidup of plaque in my neck. I don't know if I had it there before. I am 72 and just don't feel they work. My good cholesterol is low, my bad cholesterol is high and so are my triglycerides. I have been pretty good with my diet, but I know that I really should be exercising more. Always tired, thyroid issues.
Do rosuvastatin 20 mg or 40 mg cause kidney damage or liver damage? I am taking last 10 years....10 mg last 8 yrs and 40 mg last 2 yrs
Y’all need to read the recent studies. Don’t listen to Dr. Oz. Read them for yourself.
Proper diet heals inflammation too
New studies show long term Statins cause Arteriosclerosis . See latest vid from Dr Drew. This guy is is a pharma salesman.
Question?
I'm 66, with an Apo-b of 139.
Should be 79 or less.
Will Crestor/statin, lower Apo-b?
Along with a proper diet & exercise.
I know it lowers total cholesterol & LDL🤔
I had a 129 APO-b went on Repatha dropped it to 59
I whole heartedly, pun intended, disagree! Big companies make billions off statins.
how Dr Ozz would you like senility from the statin. muscle cramps depression and nero degenerative from statin. Almost killed me when the joints of the foot brock on the stairs because the toes went under and snapped them . Life almost ended and all because of this pill. I don’t think so. my cardio dr at 40 with clean vessels went on it and i see signs of memory disfunction. how sad. he is so-paranoid. Zetia did great but he had to have almost 37 , 47 not good enough. never had high cholesterol. he is going to be sorry. its horrible doctors slap you with drugs then latter tell you you have dementia and i was mad. been off over a year and i am back.
Statins cause more issues than they fix!!! I have had high cholesterol for YEARS. My arteries are very clear.
I don’t have colesterol but 6.5 AIC Diabetic and they have me on Lipitor
Do we know? I'm convinced the jury is still out. There's a TED talk and the researcher says the number to treat is 300.
Your body makes what it needs
Yeah, don't take any! Instead eat real whole foods, low carbs!
but the other thing about Statin drugs is many doctors get kickbacks from the drug companies.

Pravaststin less side effects.
All lipid profiles should be drawn after you have fasted for 8-12 hours..otherwise, it’s not accurate and may falsify the true numbers..
I cannot believe this guys needs devices and toys to push statins.
Except that statins also cause inflammation for some people, which is exactly the opposite of what you want, and the opposite of what this video is falsely asserting.
Statins accelerate the calcification of your arteries. So there's that.
Yes, because that's what statins do--they calcify soft plaque.
Oh my!! Where did the doctor got his info!!!
I take them. I survived a heart attack in 2019. I was taking it but quit. Because my legs hurt so bad. Well i had a heart attack because i quit taking the stuff. Ive been back on it for 4 years. You just get use to the leg cramps.....or have a heart attack. Its your choice.

No side effects that you are aware of it.
I drink and smoke 35 years 😅 ,at least we had a great time lol 😅
Seems statins are an inexpensive designer drug that creates symptoms that lead to costly profitable procedures.
Actually statins are big money, then more big money from the other drugs needed from its side effects.

Statins make you have memory loss. And makes your sugar go up.
