Last Story had a town with really nothing to do but shop? Did you even play the game? You could explore the town for hours and still see new stuff as things in town will change up as the game progresses. You could search for dyes, play mini-games(frog-catching), do mini-quests, battle in the arena, heck...even create a harem at a tavern. I'm not sure why anyone would say that all you do in town is shop. The town is pretty lively and interesting compared to your typical JRPG town.

Coming back to this years later and I think the funniest moment I had caused by this game years later is realizing that not only does Yurick share his english voice with (HW onward) FF14 Alphinaud, but they are both blue themed, scared of ghosts, and dont like swimming. man, is it just me or the eerie voices are heard more frequently while you play it? it kinda always managaes to play whenever I use the "command party". And man those voices filled my head with images. Nasty nasty images. And some cool skulls \m/
It took me about half an hour to beat this final boss, yet I loved the battle system and the music. I could've been fighting him for another half hour. Oh, yes, and Yurick was badass as hell too.
Aside from the main quests, there were plenty of little things to do if you explored town: frog-catching, coin game with kid, finding a lost cat, chasing some thief around town, finding dyes, selling stuff to random people at the market, catching stuff floating in the air, looking for things on the ground, finding items for people, gardening, hitting on girls, etc). You're doing different things vs running through huge, empty fields for hours fighting monsters/doing repetitive fetch quests.
I like this theme even more than "Roar of the Departed" because it has that twisted "insanity" touch to it. It's also refreshing to hear something that isn't overused chorus with pseudo-latin.
Did anyone else have a tough time with this boss? Took me about 5 or 6 tries to win, and I'm usually pretty good at beating final bosses on my first try, lol.
I didn't really struggle with this fight on my first try either. But, on one run, I remember sitting at that summon circle near the area where you get the power of the Outsider for hours grinding for some damn Gnome Gold. I ended up maxing out my cash. XD
I had a little trouble going into the boss, but once I figured out his pattern I was able to keep myself from dying. He has a couple moves you can't block that do nearly all of your health in one shot, so as long as you watch out for those and keep healing circles available its just a matter of constantly racking up the damage with spells and hit and run.
Lost Stroy, i agree that it had it's flaws but it was a gem nonetheless. I had a ton of fun going through dungeons, leveling Zael and crew. Sure the romance was shallow at odd places..but c'mon! When you first talk to Calista at the cliffside and you have a joke bit after trying to ....not spoiling. And you literally fall off the cliff i thought it was great. Made me laugh more than i should have.
Dude somtimes sequels work like Majora’s mask, it just have to be made by the same people that did the original. But really if mistwalker could do any other game for a console I bet it would be epic
I just finished this game and I must say... it is fu*king awsome! Seriously. The story is touching, the voice acting is epic and it's underestimated... It sold only 430k copies... Happily, the producer of this game is working on another RPG. I am gonna miss The Last Story. I'd even say that it's the best RPG for Wii. Goodbye Zael, goodbye Calista, maybe we'll see again...
You may be right, but trust me, in-game it fits the battle so well that it's godly. Just try watching a video of the last battle of The Last Story, it will give you chills.
That's one of the great risks about checking music and such here on youtube. If you care about spoilers (which I think you should) you should try to avoid looking up anything at all, even music, until you've "finished" the game. I've had enough games spoiled for myself by looking at music on here, so I just put that guideline up for myself, but it works well. x.x
I beat him in one try and I'm pretty sure I wasn't even overleveled .__. It was very difficult though and took quite a long time. So sad this game is over... and I didn't really like the end ;___; I feel so bad for Dagran and Jirall.
I completed the game several years ago so I don't remember everything perfectly, but I know for sure Dagran didn't give such a hard time; beat him on my first try.
...Jirall ...seriously? The Pervert...the spoiled brat who tried using his status to get everything? I thought his end was deserved. But i do agree with Dagran...if only he didn't let vengeance consume him.
Well, I got your point. I kinda feel the same way... There are some Monster Quests where you have no idea of where the monster you have to kill is, because they only mention the area he's in. Although I think the huge number of quests may be boring to do sometimes, it's not that much of a big deal.
I failed two attempts at level 55, and two attempts at level 58. After that I used the summon circle just before the final boss room to get up to level 60 to match the boss's level (and then I beat him). This is a battle of attrition. Don't get reckless. Play smart and think long-term. Retreat to heal circles when injured, and use Mirania's Revive Spirit skill to replenish lost lives - even if no one is dead. The boss is also Star elemental, which means Mirania's Forest spell will do more damage, so she should be attacking, not healing. Callista can handle the healing.
This song tells a story. And I can only tell you when you heart the chants and voices in this boss song, it's really Dagran trying to take a shit. And just when he thinks he released that devilish poop, there's this little dangling nugget still in the crack of his ass....all the while fighting his former comrades.
At most, at around the time of Ashtar's murder, I suspected him of doing so due to the long silence him and Zael shared before Dagran took the elevator down(up?), and I would of suspected him turning traitor at some point, but becoming the final boss? Never. I thought he would of gotten in their way, but then come to and help them..but I did also find the scene where he ran after Zangurak earlier in the game suspicious. But I never saw THIS coming...You have some great mind there, i'm jealous XD
In the beginning of the game-development a lot of Uematsu's songs where rejected by Sakaguchi. Sakaguchi wanted this game to be very different from the things he created in the past, and because of that , the music had to match the expierence to. There was no place for happy town theme's, victory fanfares and other jingles. This explains a lot, since Uematsu's style in this game is vastly different then in the past.
back when beat him, i figured out the perfect timing for attack and counter for his final form. i would hit a number of times then counter on his attack at the perfect time (with outsider on to heal) and when i could, use accelerate and get more hits between each counter
The missions to unlock your characters' fourth and fifth skill trees or the locations of the advanced Art books are pretty hard to figure out by yourself. But given that they're pretty much bragging rights rewards unless you want to fight the bonus bosses, that's all right.
First off that isn't what he was saying at all. What he was saying is that after the half way point you lose Dagran. Secondly, in the cutscene before the final room he does appear in the armor you put him in, however in the one that plays JUST before the battle he is wearing fully upgraded Hunter armor no matter what.
I felt I was waiting for Mirania's special spell all the time so I could drag the battle as far as possible. It was only during the latter part of the battle, that I knew how to take as much damage of him as possible, only problem was that Syrenne was KO'd so fast so couldn't really have a moment where he was stunned until Mirania would revive her, and I really never took notice that her special attack stuns him long enough to actually take a decent amount of damage. So yeah, that's why.
Most of those are tedious fetch quests. The coin collecting was a pain because you're just aimlessly wandering trying to fund shiny things on the ground, lost cat, same deal, run around until you find the cat. Like I said, the optional chapters (Haunted mansion, Flame&Lizard pub, etc.) were the more meaty side quests, but aside from those, everything in the side quest department was tedious fetch quests. Gardening wasa neat idea, but I never really got anything out of it.
0:21-0:30 Reminds me of a song from one of the PS1 Spyro games. Can't think which song it is, though. I think it might have been from one of the Speedway levels.
Anybody else thinks Uematsu put screams that sound like Lavos' on purpose there? I always imagined the Outsider was pretty much a benevolent Lavos, so it makes sense that he'd want to reference it there.
@Aetheras Listen to the rest of the soundtrack. It's almost entirely orchestral. Piano and strings mostly. This is the only retro-sounding song on it. I don't mind it. It's catchy and gets your blood pumping. Love the part at 2.18. Most of the soundtrack is very unusual for Nobuo. I think I read Sakaguchi told him he wanted something a bit different. Check out the one called Sad. It's phenomenal.
Syrenne died all the time, which was a shame cause she's the most important piece in all of this. Her being able to stun him gives you a great opportunity to finish him off. Had no problem keeping Yurick alive tho. And I probably used Mirania's best spell AT LEAST 10 times or something. That kept the fight going on forever for me. What'd I do without her?
Like my party members, the upgrades on my gear were not needed that much, if you can time your blocks and dodges. My level was 50-55 across the whole party.
I didn't. Granted, I certainly thought some of his actions were kinda shady. Like how he framed Jirall and how he couldn't seem to sympathize with Zael over his predicament with him becoming a knight late in the game. But I kinda expected him to come around before the final boss fight. Little did I know, he WAS The final boss. :P Looking at some of his scenes now though, I can definitely see where you're coming from.
My biggest suggestion to you, if this is still a problem, is to just keep level grinding. If you backtrack from the last save point before the final boss, there's a giant room with a summon circle for optional battles. Other than that, spam heal circles while drawing aggro and guard/dodge like there's no tomorrow, kind of like any other battle in the game. Hope that helps. Oh, and do whatever you can to fill Yurick's special meter. 'Nough said. :D

It took me about half an hour to beat this final boss, yet I loved the battle system and the music. I could've been fighting him for another half hour.
Oh, yes, and Yurick was badass as hell too.
3:54
Did he say 'Hilfe'? The german word for 'help'? Poor Dagran
The beginning sounds so much like a track Motoi Sakuraba made
This whole track sounds like Sakuraba co-wrote it with Uematsu, as a ghostwriter. It's just glorious.
I like this theme even more than "Roar of the Departed" because it has that twisted "insanity" touch to it. It's also refreshing to hear something that isn't overused chorus with pseudo-latin.
Mirania always saves the fight. Spam Revive whenever OL is full, that's the general boss tactic.
I love how in the last part of the boss fight you can leap from those cubes and slam into the boss. Nigh useless, but spectacular.
Did anyone else have a tough time with this boss? Took me about 5 or 6 tries to win, and I'm usually pretty good at beating final bosses on my first try, lol.
I killed him on my first try, but I trained beforehand at that summoning circle for a good hour or so. :)
didnt really struggle with this fight the leveling up for this fight was a pain tho this fight was so epic
He has a couple moves you can't block that do nearly all of your health in one shot, so as long as you watch out for those and keep healing circles available its just a matter of constantly racking up the damage with spells and hit and run.
berserkchip My problem was, I didn't really *want* to kill him. Plus, the game would be over!
Best piece of music you ever created, Mr. Uematsu.
This song is brilliant. Totally different from the rest of the OST which is almost entirely orchestral, and awesome.
Is there any version when Dagran's actual quote "There's no going back for me now" can be heard? It makes the intro of the song even more badass!
This soundtrack makes me wanna get a Wii... I already have too much on my plate as it is.
Meh, Neither of them need sequels. I'd rather have something have closure than to keep going. That being said, I'm fine with spiritual sequels.
Dude somtimes sequels work like Majora’s mask, it just have to be made by the same people that did the original. But really if mistwalker could do any other game for a console I bet it would be epic
I actually used this as the close-to-final boss fight theme in a tabletop RPG my friends and I did a few months back.
Goodbye Zael, goodbye Calista, maybe we'll see again...
omg.... i still remember this final boss, it feels so awesome... never gonna forget this game
Project+
You may be right, but trust me, in-game it fits the battle so well that it's godly.
Just try watching a video of the last battle of The Last Story, it will give you chills.
That and he wasn't with them for a long time during the invasion of their base. It's done very well.
The game was initially intended to be a lot darker with many bizarre aspects. You could say this is a part of what it was going to be.
WOW. It took me THREE attempts to finish this guy. And for a lot of other people, it took even MORE.
@@Zarryon12 I agree. The creep got what he deserved.
Wonder how many people caught on that this song also references Zeromus from FF4.
Worst thing about this fight. Realising what a complete waste upgrading Dagran's equipment was.
@HellMaynard Suzuki is the arranger, I guess... But Uematsu is the composer, that's for sure.
I suspected him when Zael found General Asthar dying, because Dagran had used the lift when Zael and the others were fighting.
This is sooo nice, I have to subscribe!!!! :D
I can hear them all talking in my head, while listenig to this O.o
There's no turning back for me. But, I will say one thing, Zael. Looking back on it all... we had some good times.
This song just screams final boss! One of the best themes i've heard!
I could listen to this everyday.
I really liked this theme. Really well made, and a fitting theme for the last boss.
Very fitting, considering the situation that plays out during the fight.
You'd be too busy laughing and cursing up a storm thanks to me. :P
Epic battle. Every time you think you're done, HE COMES BACK FOR MORE! ROAR!!
I am listening to this everyday.
Looking at some of his scenes now though, I can definitely see where you're coming from.
