Here's hoping this sequel does well and we end up getting an announcement for a Viewtiful Joe 3, as well. And, if that happens, I'll most definitely end up crying, again.

14 years later, playing this on the Switch, the game hasn't aged a day. That art style can't age poorly, which is part of its beauty. A fantastic story that tells many Japanese folk tales to the uninitiated, with bits for those who already know, this game is perfect.

I always heard very good things about okami, last year I got okami HD on steam, finished it and loved every second. Fellow okami fans, I may not have waited as long as you have, but I'm also super hyped for the sequel. This game deserves it, we are so back!!!
Doesn’t matter man - as long as you love Okami then we’re all Okami fam, we’re all children of the Sun Goddess 🥹 I discovered Okami only 6 years ago but it was one of the turning points in my life, saved me from depression and later became one of my biggest inspirations as a game dev now. So I kinda feel the same as you but tbh it just shows this game has done so well to age very very well with everyone across time And the fact that we are getting an actual sequel with Ammy in it, feels like time has really moved forward and that all that is good can rise again better than ever (Yes yes Im still emotional im still crying)
@Brythonic My biggest one for me, and this may come as a nitpick: Orochi at the start of the game was painted as the big main bad, you take him down and all is well and good. But when you do kill him, the game says "psyche, there's an even bigger villain out there." For me, that put the pacing off balance.
@Brythonic There are multiple flaws with the game, such as Issun pointing out blatantly obvious things, and on the other hand, pointing out stuff so that the player can't figure stuff out on their own. The pacing of the game in the beginning is also very slow, but it's an RPG so I understand why. The way the game recognizes brush techniques is also bad sometimes (Tried to do catwalk and it thought I was drawing the infinity sign, like what?). Some would say the game is too easy, but that's not a problem, more about what the focus went into, having a game easy doesn't mean it's bad. I however disagree with Orchestra Gamer up there about the pacing, when you kill Orochi with Susano, you're supposed to think the game is over, but then you learn that there are even bigger journeys ahead, it makes the game feel HUGE and it puts an even bigger emphasis on the word "epic". The only other complaint I have with it is that Yami has little to no backstory whatsoever, it's just kind of... There. At least with Orochi you have a personality. But maybe that's the point, I know it's kind of meant to be good vs evil and nature vs technology in the end, but that main antagonist was so weird to me. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this game. One of, if not my all time favorite games. The visuals? Stunning. The music? Absolutely breathtaking. But no game is perfect, and this is no exception. I will say this game is a prime example of what games could be, and if they ever made a sequel to Okamiden (Or maybe a prequel where you play as Ammy on the celestial plain as it gets attacked by Orochi) and if they fix the problems that Okami had, that would probably go on to be THE BEST game of all time. I would give the game a 9.9/10. Because even with those problems, they pale in comparison to the absolute mindblowing love and affection this game has put into it. Nearly everything with the game is perfect, and who knows, maybe everything will be perfect with it one day.

Orochi left me feeling hollow but the ninetails fight had almost all of the brush strokes, character deaths, there was a big emphasis on that being the end of the game. The yami fight was annoying to say the least, I despised it. But for me the big issue the game had was the camera, at times it worked fine, other times it aimed you down at the ground, acted sluggish, forced a viewpoint on you that was subpar.
Coming back here after the sequal announcment. I am in absolute shock and awe. after nearly 20 years from the original release and Clover studios dissolving I had thought that this integral piece of my childhood would simply sit on a shelf and collect dust.... BUT NOT ANYMORE BABY!

Hands down one of the best final bosses in gaming. Everything about it, the journey, the buildup, the story, the music and even the fight itself, like the game, is a masterpiece. Glad to see this amazing game is finally getting a follow up all these years later.
I remember watching my older brother play Okami when I was just 5 back in 2006. Ever since then, I’ve 100%’d this game more times than I can count. Safe to say, it’s my favorite game of all time. To know that a (more than well-deserved) sequel is now finally coming makes everything feel just right.

In my opinion, no other game has ever had this much love put into it. Every time I play Okami, I can just feel how much love and dedication Clover Studios put into making this game every moment I play. The pacing, the graphics, the music all just compliment each other throughout the entire game. The celestial brush made you the player feel like YOU were the one restoring balance and beauty to the landscape, not just the game itself. It could be a very long time if not ever that a game will ever be able to pull off this kind of originality and beauty that this game possesses. Okami is currently and probably will always be my favorite game of all time. It pains my heart to know that this game was ignored and under appreciated by people and that it caused Clover Studios to close because of it. But the people that had their hearts touched by this game will keep its spirit alive forever. I know I sure will.
I love Okami but...the pacing? The pacing is Twilight Princess levels of bad. Actually, it's probably worse, because that game's pacing eventually gets pretty great.

I played Okami when it first released back in 2006. It took me 7 days of nonstop playing to complete it. That week has always stuck in my heart, and Okami is one of the very few true 10/10 games I've played

I always thought this boss fight was awesome, alongside this music, beacuse it's one of the few times a game lets you feel like you have the upper hand against the boss, with Ammy's sudden power boost, and the triumphant music, instead of some ominous latin chanting making the boss out to be some insurmountable wall. You are the goddess of the sun, all of humanity is behind you, and nothing is going stand in your way.
I remember when i was playing Okami and my mom made a cake It was a simple day but i was so happy, unfortunately she passed away of a cancer 6 months Ago but i know she's in a better place, i love you so much mom ❤️

I played Okami back in 07 for the first time at such a pivotal moment for me. To this day I still play it every autumn and smile just as much as I did the first time. I am not ashamed to say I cried seeing the announcement at the game awards. It is the most excited I've been in years!

This music is the truest example of what final boss tracks should be. It isn't showing how tough or badass the boss this; it's a culmination of the player and Amaterasu's journey, to show how truly powerful they've become and everything they've achieved. It's triumphant, empowering, and beautiful. For THIS to be the track used to reveal Okami's long-awaited return eighteen years later was the perfect choice.
I remember picking this game up from GameStop and the cashier or whatever there said that I made a good choice. I'm so glad I got it. The music, the artwork, everything is gorgeous.
I had picked up mine at walmart out of a nonchalant interest, lets say I got more than I bargained for lol, I've played this game on nearly every console, the fact that I still vividly remember buying it 10 years ago is truly a testimony to this game's greatness
I really love this song. It's so serene and calm compared to other final boss music, yet it captures perfectly the feeling of this fight. The sun has risen, your powers are back, and you're filled with a calm yet intense sense of determination. Basically you've already won, because you're *frickin' Amaterasu*

Hands down one of the best final bosses in gaming. Everything about it, the journey, the buildup, the story, the music and even the fight itself, like the game, is a masterpiece.
Glad to see this amazing game is finally getting a follow up all these years later.
I remember watching my older brother play Okami when I was just 5 back in 2006. Ever since then, I’ve 100%’d this game more times than I can count. Safe to say, it’s my favorite game of all time. To know that a (more than well-deserved) sequel is now finally coming makes everything feel just right.

In my opinion, no other game has ever had this much love put into it. Every time I play Okami, I can just feel how much love and dedication Clover Studios put into making this game every moment I play. The pacing, the graphics, the music all just compliment each other throughout the entire game. The celestial brush made you the player feel like YOU were the one restoring balance and beauty to the landscape, not just the game itself. It could be a very long time if not ever that a game will ever be able to pull off this kind of originality and beauty that this game possesses. Okami is currently and probably will always be my favorite game of all time. It pains my heart to know that this game was ignored and under appreciated by people and that it caused Clover Studios to close because of it. But the people that had their hearts touched by this game will keep its spirit alive forever. I know I sure will.
It’s a Hideki Kamiya game, of course it’s amazing.
I love Okami but...the pacing? The pacing is Twilight Princess levels of bad. Actually, it's probably worse, because that game's pacing eventually gets pretty great.
Hideki Kamiya is an artist. Every one of his creations, he treats like his baby. Which... makes him a bit jaded but his work is excellent.
It makes me sad Clover is gone, but the love and joy they gave still remains

The tears I shed seeing the sequel announcement. Hearing those first few notes of The Sun Rises hit me as hard as the first time I heard it in-game
Genuinely in disbelief just days ago i coincidentally finished a 100% playthrough of the HD version on PS5,since i was bored and decided to see if my favorite game of all time still held up. And now a sequel was announced. No effing way.
To this day this track makes me cry... So many emotions were had in that moment 18 years ago
To see all these comments here in the wake of the announcement, it is such a delight

I played Okami when it first released back in 2006. It took me 7 days of nonstop playing to complete it. That week has always stuck in my heart, and Okami is one of the very few true 10/10 games I've played
I regret never finishing the game back then more than you could ever imagine...lol
And now we are back!

I used to have DREAMS where Okami got a new game and i still can't believe i don't have to just dream about it anymore 😭❤️ THE SUN IS RISING ONCE AGAIN!!!
I always thought this boss fight was awesome, alongside this music, beacuse it's one of the few times a game lets you feel like you have the upper hand against the boss, with Ammy's sudden power boost, and the triumphant music, instead of some ominous latin chanting making the boss out to be some insurmountable wall.

I remember when i was playing Okami and my mom made a cake It was a simple day but i was so happy, unfortunately she passed away of a cancer 6 months Ago but i know she's in a better place, i love you so much mom ❤️

I played Okami back in 07 for the first time at such a pivotal moment for me. To this day I still play it every autumn and smile just as much as I did the first time. I am not ashamed to say I cried seeing the announcement at the game awards. It is the most excited I've been in years!

This music is the truest example of what final boss tracks should be. It isn't showing how tough or badass the boss this; it's a culmination of the player and Amaterasu's journey, to show how truly powerful they've become and everything they've achieved. It's triumphant, empowering, and beautiful. For THIS to be the track used to reveal Okami's long-awaited return eighteen years later was the perfect choice.

The amount of inspiration I've gotten from this wolf and song is incredible.
I really love this song. It's so serene and calm compared to other final boss music, yet it captures perfectly the feeling of this fight. The sun has risen, your powers are back, and you're filled with a calm yet intense sense of determination. Basically you've already won, because you're *frickin' Amaterasu*
