Wow! Great design, scenery and music choice. I really enjoyed this. The trainstation was the perfect choice for all the crazy characters.
Blue ENA is also a really interesting idea: shes believable as a character eventhough she doesnt say a single word and is not just reduced to a meme.

Player (I'm gonna call them PV) enters the train station, apparently needing a ride.

They carefully consider which way to go. Later in the video we discover the Shadow Man was in the other part of the station, so wise move on PV's part.

PV stops when seeing Sad-ENA (who was recently separated from Happy-ENA), as if recognizing her, and immediately goes up to her. PV recognizes she's waiting for the train, and decides not to bother her.

PV makes a very good observation. They know full-well this is never gonna be fixed.

They then talk to a lady named Muja, who seems to like Moony a lot. Tellingly, PV immediately goes up to Moony, realizes they don't wanna be interrupted, and goes back to Muja.

PV kinda stares at Muja for a second, as if being confused by her intentions, before deciding to go look somewhere else.

After seeing a train pass by, they seem to hesitate before actually continuing.

PV speaks to a green man who I'm going to name Shades. Judging by him calling the others "honored guests", and his following comment he seems to work here, though judging by his quotation marks and quip about his job, he doesn't seem to like it all that much.

They then head to the next section, and immediately look at where the next train is coming through. Were they trying to sneak onto this one?

An odd, mechanical looking thing, which I will call Eyezar, comes down the stairs, as if just entering the station.

PV kinda fidgets when this train leaves, implying that they're really eager to get out of here already.

Eyezar notices PV, who reacts with clear shock and immediately runs away. They bump into someone after, showing that they're in a serious hurry now. PV clearly sees Eyezar as a threat.

Rather than run off immediately, PV goes to Shades, apparently wanting his help. All Shades does however is tell them to read the room, implying others are unnerved by Eyezar as well, and (with the screen subtly flickering darker) tells them to get the hell out of here, implying that Shades too sees Eyezar as a threat, though judging by how he doesn't move, he knows the thing isn't after him.

PV keeps their eyes focused on Eyezar, seeming panicked now as they head for Muja, no doubt desperate.

Realizing that this isn't helping at all, PV tries making a run for it...Only for the Shadow Thing, confirmed by sleepCircle to be a lesser partner that was alerted by Eyezar, comes up, shocking PV as they take a few steps back. They immediately heads back to Sad-ENA, but notices the train still isn't here.

PV takes a glance at Moony, and immediately focuses on Eyezard approaching, followed quickly by Shadow Man. They look between the two of them, no doubt afraid...

...Before Sad-ENA, not wanting this stranger to miss the train, drags PV in by the arm, followed by Moony, the three safely to the train, which looks a lot different on the inside. The end.

This feels like a dream. It's really surreal, yet it feels organized. There are people there, at least, you see them as people. You see ENA, but you might assume she is among the people. However, it's like she is your friend. Then, the dream starts to get creepy. One of those dreams that might NOT end very well. ENA, your friend, saves you from what will feel like a nightmare. It's like one of those happy dreams to wake up from.
I really hope Joel G. sees this. I'm sure he will like the sort of inspiration that has taken off from his animations.

1:55 love this part, realizing that the thing is still following you even while you're in the conversation cutscene is scary as fuck
100% nailed the look and feel of the ENA series. I was deeply disturbed by the (hostile?) npcs following the player around.
Text wall of me appreciating every little detail:
First of all, absolutely gorgeous. The map and it's textures look exactly like ENA's. That also goes for the character who inhabit this area. They all have uniquely quirky designs and dialogue that not only makes them fit in the ENA universe but also makes them charming even outside of that context.
Okay now story. Seeing ENA and Moony waiting for the train was pretty cool, but I'm glad we interacted with the characters surrounding them too because as I said that makes it your own thing. The purple girl wanting to throw something at Moony was pretty funny. The green guy with his "honored guests" offers up a whole other story that we don't get to explore, really fleshing out the world. My appreciation for the characters extends to the background characters and your pursuers as well.
Oh yeah the pursuers! I'm taking this from another comment but you did a really good job conveying emotion in this scene. You do "feel the panic", especially with your movements. There's the step back when the eyes open, the running of course, turning around when the shadow being appears, and the eyes darting around once you're cornered.
The music is a joy to listen to as well, even without the video. I can actually hear when I'm being chased because the music gets more panicked as well, with segments repeating and having less space between them, I think what's really cool is that you didn't change the distance between individual notes so it's really subtle.
This all ends with the visual and musical resolution of ENA saving you.
Absolutely stunning. I actually had to cut a lot from this to make it less dense to read, I was going to talk about stuff like everything in the background and all the characters' unique movements.
I know right? I could wright an essay on this, if I thought that was actually worth the time. Better to just watch the vid anther 50 times.~

yes, I mean. it is a bit unusual but honestly the ENA world always seemed sort of saturated with a quiet dread, somehow. Like even though there was never anything openly "out to get you" in Extinction Party or Temptation Stairway, it always felt (to me) like the possibility was *really close.* Like something was waiting just around the corner, somewhere.

Hostile NPCs are HEAVILY implied to be a thing. In Extinction Party, Merci is begging ENA (in Korean) to leave because she's in great danger being where she is.
Ok so: moony realised that she was beautiful before so she tried to put herself back together. meanwhile, ena realized internal happiness can't be gained, so she is now all blue.
For you are you and you are trying to find a way out of this.
I like to think it's more ENA might actually be separated
As in there is now two of the Main ENA we followed in Season one
One that's fully Yellow
And One that's fully Blue
At least in this timeline
It's possible the two swap a lot
Sometimes Blue Ena is more in control
And other times, Yellow Ena is more in control
Basically ENA is no longer two-toned/double minded
But rather is split between one side of herself and the other
One that's more introverted and a bit gloomy
And another that's more extroverted and cheery
But both still being equally ENA

I love how the creatures chasing us really had the uncanny movement of something chasing you in your dream would move, slow and sliding. Fits right into the ENA universe!

ah. just to add onto this i cant help but to feel a strange type of wonder and confusion? not sure how to explain it, but its a nice feeling! i really cant praise this enough! if you ever do an animated/music project not related to Ena, ill definitely check that out as well!

you certainly got the panic feel. the two followers and their completely different pieces of animation made me feel a bit uneasy (in a good way!). and the way you could see them continue to move even when the player?person?character?us? stopped to talk with people really made me fidgety.
However long it took, it was worth the wait.

Thoroughly underrated in comparison to other fan-creations for ENA. not saying those're worse, it's just that this one is so stunningly accurate to the source material, yet it feels so unique and alive.
I must say that I kinda prefer this a tad bit more than the original one. ENA is hella unique, but I just love the life of this place you've made. rather than a monochrome desert with patterns of faceless people and vastly open areas, filled with nothing but corpses and a single distorted humanoid person, you've made it be so alive and it really feels like there's too much explore, with the way you set it up by making areas inaccessible aswell with the two threats forcing you to hurry.
If I were to summarize myself it'd be that I think that the official ENA feels like it's being focused at some more rural or distance place, whilst yours in some metropolis, uniting all figures from the world they live in.

now, this is 100% just me guessing, here, but: i think that the ENA universe does have more densely populated areas, but that they're pretty rare. I feel like a lot of the universe is featureless wasteland, like what's shown in the canon ENA shorts, and that worlds "grow up" out of this wasteland as simplistic little bubbles of ideas which, most of the time, just propagate simplistically and memetically, before falling back into chaos again
i think it's rare that a place takes enough of a hold on the "substrate" of ENA's universe that it can offer people more than temporary shelter, and become a 'settlement' with a continued life and any sort of long-term sustainability. Idk if that makes sense.

@@curiousboi-w-2438 i'm not sure their society is that advanced, frankly, and i think the "guardian" for the labyrinth probably has very different motives than the guardians who protect the path to Runas.
the labyrinth seems like a bizarre hell full of lost souls. idk why the guardian would keep anyone out, except that they might be capable of 'disrupting' it. honestly, i feel like the guardian was just making sure ENA wasn't capable of actually affecting anything important. (although ENA managed to get moony out, in the end, so maybe the guardian underestimated her)
runas's guardians/servants seem more like… like what you'd expect. there to stand in the way of the tens of thousands of liars, cheats, supplicants and madmen desperate to get in the good graces of the last in a long line of public servants. and it stands to reason that such a long-standing office would have more concrete, long-standing architecture around it, I think. I don't think they're protecting the 'complexity' as much as they're protecting the peace of Runas himself. He seems incredibly sad and tired.
the green man is griping about the stupid jerks he has to wait on, every day of his life. if you look carefully you can see them throwing a real party, up in the shrine they've moved into.
the protagonist of this video isn't ENA, it's just you.

Yea possibly. it is called extinction party and the asian speaking friends seem to warn ENA about great dangers. I'm not really sure either what the green path is meant to be, so maybe it is the path that troubled the UFO man so awfully much? but yea, since they are called "labyrinths" I assume it's no place people want to visit very often?
But there aren't that many lost souls, plus it is a fairly tidy place. It feels more like the place people can stay at, if they've got no home, but then again the warnings and green path make it all seem a bit too sinister and dangerous. Though if Moony was kept in there, was she meant to be held there to stay? it reminds of 'Auction Day' when ENA suddenly questions what's wrong with Moony, as if there's something untrustworthy lingering about her.
Well I'm no ENA biologist, but from what I understood from the episode, the different entities that live in the great Runa's own their own door, as Phindoll directs ENA to pick his when exiting. The door themselves are the things with sad and tired eyes, that only are open when people are allowed to travel. during the tempation stairway event, the door has open eyes and so does the one when Moony and ENA exit the Runa's. the entity that was causing the whole event I'd assume to be the faceless lady doll, with the blue dress. She's the only present and alive before and after the door has been closed.

I believe they might just be observers of a kind. they wait around and make sure nothing is disrupted. they seem to not be smart enough to work indenpendently, though that they can follow orders. so Maybe they're like robotic in their behaviour, easy to give orders and hire. could maybe explain why they sit in the room on several chair in the backroom labyrinths. perhaps to watch over whomever attempts going through the green hallway.

The black and gold floating thing(not sure wtf it is, but this is a ena game so i dont think im supposed to know what it is) just seems so menacing. It endlessly stares at you, and openly follows you. It reminds me of a nightmare I had, pretty much like this but it was a bear on its hind legs. There’s just something eerie about it, and how you’re stuck having two beings following you, unsure of what will happen if they get to you.

What I love about this is how neither Ena, neither you (a viewer) is a center of attention in this world. The world is "alive", and it does't revolve around you

This really captures a dream like feeling, like a lucid dream (usually because they end up being a mix of a nightmare and a dream).
There's multiple times where I find myself in multiple sorts of dream running and panicking away from something I don't understand why, yet feel threatened by it, but I'm normally lucky when it feels like there's no hope (ENA saving us at the end).

So this is where Sad Ena is now!
Personal theory is that her sad half didn't leave and that now ENA's more in control of her emotions. They are far less split, literally and figuratively.
EDIT (12/30/21): Alright I'm really not proud of how I worded this now, so I'm gonna try and re-elaborate. I don't think it's so much ENA being more in control of her emotions now anymore and more that they just... manifest differently? Like the way her body changes colors to represent her emotions might be different now after her wish. I'm probably not sounding any better or describing this well, but I'm not that great at putting my thoughts into words.
The way Ena just grabs us at the end is adorable oml

It has episodes with events, these events have explicit and implicit consequences-things which are seen to happen and things which needed to happen to cause what's happening in the episodes-and world rules we can guess at.
My video should not be considered a real part of those events, nor should it be used as a basis for any kind of guesswork. It was made without Joel's input and as such is not part of his story.

what exactly are the intentions of the floating character that follows you near the end? they particularly fascinate me the most, the way their eyes just open and how they start going after you, i can see the sudden fear or panic in the movement of the player. i like it a lot. :} this is amazing bro
there is a story but it's sort of vague and not-completely-defined, so i'm not sure how much i can explain
suffice it to say, the black-and-red shadow creature came there because it knew you were meeting ENA there and it wanted to catch you before you could. it has been tracking you for quite a while now and it was trying to pin you down here (although on that note, "7'00 a. m." is not a time.)
the floating creature is equal parts subordinate and superior to the shadow man. it will only do what it's told, but it's also more dangerous and powerful. it alerted the shadow man to your presence and started dogging your path, and the shadow man came over as fast as it could from other parts of the station to get you
however the train has infinite compartments, and you can only share a compartment with someone you get on-board with, so even if the two creatures entered the train a split-second after you, ena and moony did, they wouldn't be able to find you because they'd be in a different compartment.

I can’t explain the amount of sheer panic there was when it’s eyes opened, and the amount of relief I felt when the character/us was saved by an ENA. You did a great job capturing the feeling!
this is rly good!!!!!!!!! i love the characters the setting and the music here!! the animation is great !!!! i love how theres hostile npcs going after you thats something i felt like could be in the actual series, a point of tension in the viewer (something akin to the energy-filled sequence of the beginning of temptation stairway). i like that last part a lot hehe like ena herself is taking me by the hand to get on the train, like who are we in this story?? whats our importance?? its rly cool
yeah! i always felt like--like in the world of ENA even though there was nothing actually chasing ENA at any point, I always felt like there *could* be. Something about the world feels a little unsafe, you know?
@@sleepCircle yeah!! before I found out about ena i recall watching some videos made by ppl where they're doing the same psx/early 90s 3d pc game aesthetic as ena's world but in a more 'horror' fashion where the whole environment feels ominous and threatening and you dont know what could happen at any moment and now that i think about it "maybe they could borrow some elements of those for ena?" its something id like to see

This is absolutely stunning the sense of dread I feel when the 2 characters are coming after you is something I can’t quite explain. Not to mention the track playing in the background is just perfect going along with the story and characters

I am absolutely in love with the vibes in this. I feel like everything together fits so well, from the location being a subway with both low-ceiling and high-ceiling rooms, to the time being 7 AM in which normally most high-traffic areas are much more alone and reality itself feels a bit warped, and of course the characters themselves and ESPECIALLY the music bring up the whole thing altogether. MAN am I so in love with this video!

Something I never really payed much mind to with this video until now is how no episodes before it (or any at all as of this writing, though Dream BBQ's nature as a game will change that) showed the POV interacting with the same character more than once. It feels so natural that you dont even realize the main series never did it, as well as giving more to blorb about with the characters, something that makes me even more excited for Dream BBQ.
This is so well made! Looks like something from oficial series. I like how ENA saved us from these weird, scary creatures at the end, that was cute! Great job!

Man, I want to play an RPG in this style. Something about the music and the weirdness is bringing back some hodge podge amalgamation of old PS2 RPG memories for me.
I remember I found this song on Soundcloud a while back and now there's an amazing animation to go along with it
I'd love an ENA style game with lots of strange and interesting characters to interact with and many dreamlike worlds to explore.
My adrenaline spiked when I saw that floaty eye thing following, even if it was slow, it freaked me out. The ending was pretty sweet, though! Honestly the video itself is very well made, it feels very dream-esque, literally! If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was an ENA episode that just had less dialogue.
slow can be extremely scary. just imagine waiting for results on a test at the doctor's. terror and boredom combined.
