How To Make a Palette Knife Flower Cake - Tutorial

  • Learn along with me in this knife painting series. I’m teaching myself this technique and know there are other cake decorators wanting to do the same. In the first part of the video I demonstrate how I form the petals and leaves for this particular cake, with an added, more sculptural technique thrown in.     This is the best palette knife video I've seen, its short but important , the rest of the tutorial i've seen really long and not really helping

    Here I use simple American Buttercream using twice as much powdered sugar, by weight, as butter. For example, I use 500g of soft (not melted) butter to 1kg of powdered sugar. I add a splash of water or cream...just a couple of tablespoons, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. I mix on low speed for at least 10 minutes .

      Hi Marlene. Where I’m from, we don’t have a lot of commercially produced alternatives but if I wanted to use something other that the usual types of buttercream, I would probably use white chocolate ganache.

      Thank you Naleni. I used a crusting American buttercream that had been in the refrigerator, not freezer.

      Hi. Buttercream is 500g softened butter and 1kg powdered sugar. Colour with petal dusts or gel colours.

    Hey, can we do butter cream painting with Swiss meringue? Also wanted to know, just butter and sugar is enough to make a butter cream?

      I haven’t but I’m pretty sure it would work, it just won’t crust. My buttercream is just butter and icing sugar (powdered confectioners; sugar) ☺️

      Thank you! My buttercream is just 500g butter, 1kg confectioners’ sugar (powdered sugar), 2-3 tbspns cream or milk as required. Have fun!

      It probably is! I used American Buttercream, 1 part butter to 2 parts powdered sugar (by weight, not volume). A tablespoon or 2 of cream or milk or water, 1 tsp. vanilla. I hope that helps.

      Hi. I generally use whatever I have at hand, sometimes gels, usually Americolor, Wilton or Fractal, and sometimes powder colours like Rolkem or Rainbow Dust.
