I will admit, I had no clue there were AAAA Batteries.
+SquareBlockHQ I actually had to Google it because I assumed he misspoke.
+HisRandomFriend I did the exact same thing.
+HisRandomFriend same, lol
***** Because they're called 9 volt battery
I had a HTC flyer who used aaaa batteries
I haven't seen a Surface Book anywhere at my Campus. Everyone's carrying a Mac. I have one though and like it so far.
I'm thinking of getting this one for college, can you further elaborate? What do you study? Something design based (I'm going to study industrial design)? What do you use the tablet for? I reckon it'll be pretty handy for taking notes in class?
Defoxx Gaming It is super handy. Let's say you have a study guide, you can just write on the screen with your pen. It's surprisingly responsive.
For me, I never really separate the monitor and the keyboard unless I have to switch the monitor around to use it like a notebook. That way I still use the external battery in the keyboard. If you just use it as a tablet, you're gonna have a bad time since the battery life isn't that good.
I'm currently a freshman and I'm planning on majoring in Computer Science. I got a surface book since my comsci teacher in highschool had one. I researched it and even though it's expensive, I'd say it's worth it. Also, I do a bit of gfx so it helps a lot since I don't have to scan my hand drawn logos. I just do it straight through the monitor with the Surface Pen.
Main problem I had is the heat. I don't really notice it that much but it gets really hot if you play video games. Also the battery life is like 4 hours continuous use, maybe like 8 hours if you only browse and stuff. But that never really is a problem for me since I have two classes next to each other and that's about 2 hours of use and then I charge it during lunch for like an hour and that's enough for me to use it for the next 3 classes I have.
Mmm alright. I don't intend to use the notebook for gaming so I think I should be fine on the heat side of things. Thanks for your answer!
iTeCnus bc its newer and costs a fuck ton
Janinja 1000 yeah it does cost a fuck ton
Woah no sponsor message after intro. I must be dreaming.
+TechSource he bought the laptop so no sponser
Edgar.
Why you gotta do this man?
Damn...
+TheCorey Marks most people are not really inte tech and rather watch fake pranks, advertisements are pretty much a secure way of getting a income for them
+Znark Surface review (GONE SEXUAL)
+Headshot_ IN THE HOOD
Bought mine for architecture & design and after 3 or so months of driver updates I have grown to love it as my portable device.
I'm thinking of getting it for college, I want to study industrial design. As you mentioned architecture, how does it perform at programs such at AutoCAD or Sketchup? Is 3D rendering ok? Thanks in advance
I run it alongside a desktop PC. But the surface is great for design software - now, that most of the drivers and software have been updated for the hardware. You'll want the i7 though. And industrial design I recommend looking into SolidWorks.
Glad to hear the surface can handle those programs well. And I will definitely look into SolidWorks. Thanks for your answer and recommendation!
to add it runs well catia if ur more into aerospace 3d designing this is what we use. Solidworks is great as well and I use 3DS max, Adobe premiere pro and after effects all work great in the video editing dept.
Hey I'm a first year architecture student. Do you make use of the detachable screen and the canvas mode or does it become more of a gimmick.
I'm really unsure to get a book or a cheaper more powerful razer blade.
Well, at least the Pro came with a stylus.
I mean, Apple sells a stylus for $99 and doesn't even have a place to put it on the iPad Pro, not even on their case.
But this Surface Book looks awesome and probably the best piece of tech of 2015 so far.
(Coming from a guy who will soon own an iPad Pro, so you can hate me if you want)
+D13H4RD2L1V3 Ouch, but everyone has a choice even if they're bad.
Sylvex Dragonskin Well, I'm not getting the Pencil since I'm not going to be using it (and having no place to put it is a joke. No, Apple. Hanging it off the Lightning port is a horrible idea). And $99 for it is a bit much.
D13H4RD2L1V3
Ye ofc, but I meant choosing an iPad :)
Sylvex Dragonskin Yep. There's choice, but I'd still like it included.
***** Oh, I'm actually very much into Android (I use an LG G4 as my daily and have 3 rooted Androids running CM).
I just needed an iOS device to use my apps. I contemplated the Air 2 but settled on the Pro because I multitask a lot on my iPad and considering the much larger screen (and battery and quad-speakers), plus 4GB of LPDDR4, I felt that it might make sense, since I won't be buying another iPad for 3-5 years.
Tech reviews on loop when I can't sleep
WOW! Well done Linus & CREW. Great video and is why I started subscribing in the past. Beautifully done review. And I was actually the exact 7,000th like!!!! A first for me to make all 4 digits change... and the 57,000 view. Crazy right??? Or not... Doesn't matter. Solid video all! Keep it up!
Thanks :D
+LinusTechTips Since completing your move, you all have really really hit your stride. I am loving it! And letting people know about you, especially when they ask what my shirt means when sporting an LTT shirt!
+Michael Bivins Been here since 2011!
+MrHav1k Early 2013 for me.
+Michael Bivins Half Life 3 confirmed :D
Great review.
I feel like I'd *kinda* use one of these, but not to its potential, like you said.
Thumbs up to aspect ratio 3:2, hands down. That takes guts and simply common sense, which Microsoft has.
Vishwanath K R except for all the UI issues we still get outside of 16/9
sorry thats not brave. removing ports people still actively use - thats what i call courage.
/s
That's Apple lol
But Windows scaling still sucks.
Vishwanath K R should have done 1:1
WOOOO Finally, someone who gets how 16:9 is useless for productivity.
16:9 is like assuming all word documents are landscape
And 5 years later, even some gaming laptops have started to adopt 16:10 displays now.
5:09 Linus, we don't need to know
NICE ONE!!! XD!!!!
Savage
Lmao, fax
For artist the Surface is a pretty good product. Yea you can get a Razor laptop for cheaper but then you have to buy a wacom tablet along side it. The surface had the advantage of drawing on the screen similar to Cintiqs and but with the pressure sensitivity of the intuos. In addition it is lightweight and more importantly when you want to show your client or professor a portfolio or assignment you can just detach the keyboard and hand them a tablet. Of course this is much easier on the Pro model than the book, but this alone makes it much better than lugging around a portfolio. Portfolios are time consuming and making prints that match the colors on the computer screen are a hassle. It is much more sleeker looking to hand your a tablet with a gorgeous display and at the same time be able to draw on photoshop with ease. My only complaint that I have had is that when it was first released it had some software bugs but those were quickly addressed and fixed, and the fact that the screen was glass. It is beautiful but extremely reflective and when you're using it in a high light setting such as a school, you'll get a lot of glare.
xD
Exactly, though the i7 razor blade stealth was cheaper than the i5 Surface Books with a graphics card I cannot stand art pads.
i died at Razor.
I'd love to see more of a performance followup, especially in the gaming category. No, it's not going to run any AAA titles at native res at max settings, but from what I've seen so far it's surprisingly more capable as a travel gaming machine than one would expect. Added benefits include NOT running at 92c +/- during gaming like the 14" Blade, and not getting headaches from the non-existent vertical space on the DISPLAY of the 14" Razer Blade
still wonderful in 2021
Would It be good enough for running ads (website based) and photoshop
Probably a lot better than a Macbook (hate replies incoming).
+Lunaverse It's true
Actually i own a Macbook Pro Retina and i agree.... The MACBOOK is a waste of money, looks nice but looks dont make up for the prize and weak hardware.
The Macbook Pro Retina is so far the only laptop worth buying from all the Apple laptops.
The Vicatorian Yea
Metaru Elite xD
+PowerHouse_ PR I think you are not using it properly. Buying a laptop just for looks is where people tend to go wrong.
I got one because it was really highly praised in the tech world (H8rs gon h8) and I wanted to see if it's true and it is superb. For instance, Apple themselves say it "only" gets 9h of battery life. But I many times I had 10h or more out of it. It is an incredible product. Screw the rest of the Apple lineup. The MBP is the only thing to buy from Apple. And it sure as hell isnt a waste of money. Even the best Windows laptop (XPS 13) isnt as good as this. Well i also got a GTX 960 running with it, which is nice.
When you talked about the old Staff Picks on UA-cam it brought me back to the days of "Videos being watched now" on the homepage and your profile where you could post bulletins and post on your friend's pages....ah I miss the old days
It TRIGGERS Cortana
I laughed
Just use **TRIGGERED** to type TRIGGERED. It looks more meme-y.
Parantez Adam *TRIGGERED*
As an animation and vfx student this laptop is just the dream for me. Sadly being in full time education whith only a part time job and coming from a rather poor family i can't afoard it ...
Same here pro. Keep grinding. We'll make it.
Just put it on a lease
@ lol this comment is so old that i got the time to get a 2nd job and buy a propper workstation.
@@youdontknowme3935 lucky im just hella poor from a poor family well done tho u got one
Linus SP3 review in a nutshell: "It's made for students & casual artists, I'm not either, therefore this sucks."
Damn...you're right!
+Mike S Artists? yeah right. That screen wobble is awfull, 1 button instead of 2 on the pen? Thats unacceptable. Performance is limiting with adobe that eats resources like hell. What idiot of an artist would buy this.
A student is more like it, with more money than sense.
+nosferatu5 An artist can use it in tablet mode if wobble is an issue.
+Mike S They promoted it as a tablet that can replace your laptop. so no, it was not only made for artists and students
+Hilbert Black (No. XVI) I mightve come across too harsh in my choice of words. Its more of a casual doodling device on a holiday or a plane, atleast from my perspective and vaguely recalling some of the lacking pen-cabalities. Removing the keyboard does away with a very important part - the keyboard. Limiting you to a very slow and cumbersome workflow ( admittedly some people work that way by default , wierdos). Now if there was a USB port for the keyboard on the screen section, that wouldve been great.
The one thing that i really dig about it though - is the aspect ratio of the screen. Its fantastic for artists! And if wacom got their heads out of their own assess they should take example on this particular part.
I'd say Microsoft has clearly focused on the business / public sector markets for this, seeing as it's two main keypoints; laptop-sized tablet yet with a detachable keyboard with options for dGPU and extended battery are definite winning points for those sectors. You'll probably see these popping up (dependent on whether acquisition teams aren't brand-influenced)
i don`t care, if a video is super late, when the video is well done and interesting
and for me it is :)
thanks linus
bought this one as a gift for my mom this xmas, was good and catered her needs perfectly.
YAY! So glad you made this video I'm getting a Intel Surface Pro 4 core i5 6300u for Christmas really wanted some insight thanks!
This is the surface book, surface pro is more difference
+MinecrafterChris How do you know what you're getting for Christmas?
User_8834 I bought it at Best Buy and my parents wrapped it for Christmas
Kinda sad haha
Why would you buy a surface to play minecraft
Dell XPS 15, Linus?
+山内淳カイル yea where's the love for that thing. it looks like pure sex.
+ricky dedos He will soak it.
+山内淳カイル Lenovo Yoga? Asus UX301/303? Asus Zenbook? HP Envy/Elitebook?
+山内淳カイル Had a terrible experience with the XPS15. It's back in Dell's facilites now. It's really a shame because it is gorgeous :'(
The most annoying is the CPU glitch, mine was capped at 1.6GHz if I happen to run it to run it on AC, unplug it for a sec, and the plugging it back in. Only a reboot would fix that... Among other things like WiFi card crashing, several BSODs (3 within a week) and weird fans behaviors.
Their BIOS is clearly not ready yet, I'm guessing the review units they're giving away are fairly tested before hand.
en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19660225?pi239031352=1
Search for "XPS 9550 issues" on google you'll see what I mean.
+山内淳カイル Dell XPS, Razer Blade, they are premium productivity tools, real productivity and gaming.
Surface Book, you pay for a new generation, a new concept.
Still, your preference favors.
You can only use watchable in the US so use tunnelbear so you and at least pretend you are in the US and BOOM you have watchable your welcome
+melon1168 Or just use youtube and don't waste your time and money.
Just any proxy. Basic stuff.
+melon1168 And get your bandwidth wasted and data collected by a free vpn.
+James proxies and VPn's quite often can't fake a particular countries IP. they give you what you get
+Space Cadet personally on Private Internet Access for $40 a year and they literally give me a list of countries to look like I'm in whenever
I have been considering buying one of these, and had no idea it was a 2 in 1.
At some point 4:3 will be cool again, just like buttons on a phone, mark my words.
+Daniel Macías Let's hope CRTs don't come back with them :P
+Daniel Macías I just bought a very old 4:3 display from a thriftstore for very cheap to use it on my Linux test machine. It's perfect, as it doesn't use so much space on my desk, and I won't need the video features anyway. I'm just testing distros and typing out reports a lot. The 4:3 ratio is perfect for office work.
Even though CRTs are nice, they obviously have a problem: Screen Burn-in. This wouldn't be very nice for gamers to have their HUDs burned in to the screen. Maybe burning in a spreadsheet program could help with precision though :P
+Daniel Macías I hope, my E52 needs a successor.
+Daniel Macías i dont understand how people can say that hard buttons on a phone are a bad idea :/
Recently at a visit to the Microsoft store my father wanted a Surface. My father and I own a new Architecture firm and all of the desktops we own are Xeon, Quaddro P4000 equipped desktop but, we have one laptop. My father's 1999 Dell Laptop with 1gb of ram (which wasn't anything to scouf at). So far the Surface Book looks like a great option so far, it can be equipped with atleast some GPU power and it looks fantastic in front of clients who appreciate it. I hope If this is what we go with it treats us well!
Before this day I had never heard of Quadruple A batteries.
2:36 Linus is the only reviewer that recorded the satisfying click.
Will there be an updated review for the performance dock?
I hope so!
Videos like this one made me follow you way back in 2013.Well done!
What's with the random music that comes on in the background randomly?
+Señor Steffan Music of Microsoft's SP3 video
+Señor Steffan surface book trailer
Just got mine today and it has good specs. I look forward to using it.
5:03 "In both senses"
Took me a sec.
Subbed. I like your reviews. Much better than most reviewers out there. Keep up the good work.
Have had mine for a little while now and I have nothing but great things to say. The speed and light weight feel it provides is insane.
Sure you can get laptops with 980m SLI, but if you're comparing this laptop to those, I have nothing for you.
All in all excellent piece of technology.
this is a little random, but I'm wondering, years later, how did it hold up to use & the elements? Did you end up using it for a long while?
@@Muzikman127 Sold it after a year, just didn't hold up to what I needed from it. Loved it for what it was though.
@@ProChargedLS2 i wanna Buy It, i want to use It for the uni and i just need word and some programing ide. I should Buy It? The price is 125 w/o charger
@@MikeGM20 For 125 bucks I would buy one myself lol!
Gonna stop you right there at 0:48. I've been using the SP3 as a daily driver for the past 2.5 years and it has done everything I need on my PC very well. I still keep my PC but honestly I barely touch it. I can use the SP3 on the go, at home, in the office; for both entertainment and productivity purposes. It is by far the best laptop I've owned and not to mention it is also a super tablet
Still waiting for the Nexus 6P review.
Super, thanks for the video. Will you be reviewing the Surface Pro 4 as well?
Also, just as feedback, I think it might've been better to mute the Microsoft commercial music, as I found it slightly jarring hearing it come and go throughout the video (example, 3:03). Not a big deal, but thought I'd mention it.
.......15:10 ratio? What about 3:2?
Apparently they were never taught basic fractions.
Kenrick Brown I could understand he maybe said that way to let we compare it with the 16:9 and 16:10, but does he think we're that dumb to need to say 15:10?
+Emanuele Tuttolani
It's just much easier to compare to the other usually used ratios, got nothing to do with dumb. You could call 16:10 also 8:5, why do you think we don't?
What's the point in trying to cancel fractions for screen ratios, you won't really use them to calculate stuff...
+CelmorSmith yes I see the point, I just over reacted because I work with aspect ratios and 15:10 sounded to me like it was "3:2 multiplied by 5" :D
I have no intrest buying the product, but review was PERFECT. Logical editing with no mistakes, good amount of critisism and realistic perpective and very nice product shots with intresting bokeh-charector. Also no annoying music or bad graphics. AMAZING!
it felt like linus was a little gassed when doing this review(especially towards the end), he was deff happy about this product.
Sometimes i think he is on amphetamines (like MDMA, Aderall, Meth).
+EngleBertZombie apple fan kid gtfooh
Beautiful review! I just bought this laptop, I know there are better ones on the market but I need a 2 in 1 for school, so this seems a good option for me. I really like the design and it still has enough power for editing and light gaming. I am so curious!!!
Honestly, I don't care if Microsoft takes cues from Apple... As long as the market is innovating I won't complain.
Ian Greer considering Apple always takes cues from others, it's only fair
only student in my university that have a surface book. everyone has macbooks. i get soo many compliments on how nice the design is. especially the laptop to tablet feature.
same LOL got the surface book and when i detached my screen and handed it to 1 of my classmate to show him my presentation he looked at me like what that so cool
Alright linus, now its time to review surface pro 4! What about it?
Although maybe redundant, please do a surface pro 4 review! It's much more improved now and definitely has reason enough for an update.
>$2000 laptop
>captioned "Run office well"
I love your videos specially your reviews. Much more informative than the usual ones.
YEEEEE. But I have an XPS 15 now and pff. No regrets.
But there isn't a core i7 and 16GB ram model 😕
For XPS?
Dhruv B Yeah the 15
It does. I have the i7 16gb model
Dhruv B Oh my bad. The website is a bit terrible at showing the top end models. I couldn't find them when it first came out. Maybe they weren't available at that time.
FYI, hinge design was super important, more so than just the look. It moves the pivot point back when the lid is open. Since the screen detaches there are a lot of heavy computer guts in the screen. If the hinge point didn't move back, opening the screen and then touching it could cause it to tip back. By moving the hinge back, you can open it and touch the screen without it rocking back.
I think Apple doesn't make Mac Book touch pad because then no one would buy iPad Pro
This is a good laptop. Unlike that crap Apple is releasing.
*isn't releasing
crazymarf is releasing*
Aye Don oh really, they're releasing things? Time to dust off the old apple watch and fiddle with it.
*****
Ironic, I bought a MacBook Pro shortly after posting that comment.
j C.
Yeah, it's pretty good. Could be better though.
I was really considering getting one but wanted to see your review first. I hope it comes to the UK soon.
2700$? wtf. costs the same as the laptop with a gtx 980
+Sij Cecilio The engineering that goes into Microsoft's Surface tablets involves, well, a lot more engineering than any typical notebook. R&D isn't cheap, so the device isn't going to be either. That said, the pricing on the higher end upgrades is ludicrous.
+Blaze Firereign Sure but you can get some very powerful thin gaming laptops which will be better for productivity and cost you more then 1000 less. It's an engineering marvel but it doesn't get to ignore the market it's placing itself in. Other then the tablet functionality and the 3:2 screen it's pretty much inferior to every other machine in it's price bracket.
+devilmikey00 it's uh smaller than those massive pieces of machinery. those things are hardly portable anymore. this is
taief miah the razerblade is much more powerful yet based on the video, is about the same size and weight as the surface book
taief miah Have you actually looked at gaming laptop from the last few years? The ones you can buy in the 1500-2000 dollar range are almost all about the same size as this is in laptop mode. Linus even SHOWED a razerblade 14 in the video which is vastly more powerful and about the same size as this lol
Who else gets excited when Linus finally enjoys a product? I know he can be pretty critical which I like, but he knows his tech and doesn't drive us blind with which tech is good for the consumer, but really nails what works and what doesn't. :D
Super late stuff. We've been there before, Linus. Verizon is MY Microsoft Store, and they make things super late, just like Microsoft, but with an ISP that's notoriously unreliable as opposed to the retail antics.
Really good review, yet again. It feels like since the LMG move you guys have really upped your game!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Can you do a video with a TRIPLE MONITOR SETUP using the Microsoft Surface Book. You can turn off the laptops monitor and daisy chain three monitors to it via its Display Port. Make it happen guys.
Kevin CCIE no u cant, there just one display port!
0:13 Okay THAT was smooth :O
review the transformer 3 it's a monster
I wish the hinge was less huge and could go all of the way around the device. The hinge is too wobbly and the keyboard was kind of bad in my opinion, but from what I saw from messing around on a friend's device, it does seem pretty nice.
It's this the surface that you said you were going to return after you did the review? be honest, you weren't actually planning on keeping this product at any point were you?
Yep. I give every device a chance to win my heart. This one almost did.
Would've been a lot better if it still had the adjustable foot/leg thingy. Because then you'd be able to use the pen while in Laptop mode with A LOT less screen travel, and then you'd also have a stand while in Tablet mode, so then you don't need to hold the thing up.
That's true I wonder why they didn't think of having that stand, especially since the screen wobbles a lot...
the Surface Book was sold out for weeks before the thing even launched that is why it takes so long Linus so think before you speak
Maybe there's more to the story than you know like that they accidentally canceled my order and told me it wasn't canceled when I called in about it ;)
LinusTechTips
okay now i get why you are angry makes perfect scene sorry for what I said
Rafael Rauhala
Go back to the crazy side of the internet
+Fusion Coil Production Linus is a fuckwit end of story
Dick Jones very true
Great camera shots Linus
how come no surface pro 4 review yet?
My usage scenarios are this: if I need to do anything serious that isn't actually going to involve graphic design, then I probably just need to have a laptop. For graphic design, it's really pretty simple. If you absolutely must have the best you can get and also have it be portable, go buy a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2. Yes, they're stupidly expensive, but if you need accurate stylus support, then it is the best tool for the job.
“Mom, I lost my keyboard.”
So Linus. Which laptop/ultrabook would you recommend for me? I need something that can handle music, browsing the web, watching videos and studying. - and I'm on a budget.
But can it run crysis?
+Dustpan the standard 940m is like 3 times as fast as a 540m, it's like the gpu in the tegra x1 with 50% more cuda cores, so I see it being able to run it at 1080p30 at reasonable settings, although I don't know how many memory modules it has, so it might be that it doesn't have enough bandwidth for 1080p
+Hearty Oatmeal
Can it run Minesweeper?
I love the guy who always asked this question on a tech video, it makes my day
+Hearty Oatmeal Yeah, it can easy run crysis.
+Hearty Oatmeal Don't you know how old the original Crysis is by now? Of course this can run it
I have had it for over a year and I am still in love with it.
the only reason I got the surface book was because of the GPU
same tbh
Linus your videos are so full of life! Keep up the good work.
Am I the only one enjoying the surface pro 3? :-)
Fits all my needs :-)
Gillz331 overheated and throttled to much to be worth the money
As an owner of the high end Surface Book, I admit I'm a super happy camper with my device.
But, that was not the case the first 3 weeks. It took multiple patches and updates to make the Intel video drivers usable, which were only recently updated. The first week of use (I bought it on launch), the trackpad was funny, the video drivers would crash every 30 seconds, and apps like Chrome did not like my Surface Book. And the battery, oooh, the battery. I've finally figured out why my device would die every 4 hours after a full charge, and it's all Windows Hello. For some reason, windows hello keeps the Surface Book awake when the device is closed and stays connected to the internet. After turning off Windows Hello, I'm getting well over 14 hours of use regularly.
can they plz put a gtx1060 in it :P
NLGamer236 No.
NLGamer236 In fact, really no. Just buy a Razer Blade or a HP Omen or an MSI or....
NLGamer236 No, the 1060s tdp is too much for the surfacebook.
Novashadow115 and it's thick as fuckkk
+R3D they just did.
He learned to hit the spacebar with his thumb instead of his index finger! New improved Linus 2.0
This would be perfect for students. If it wouldn't cost you 5 months of rent.
yeah i need this for school, and every time Linus said he doesnt like it because he doesnt use the pen, i kept thinking that i would
As student I would definitely go with a Surface Pro. Had a Surface Pro 2 for all my university time and it was amazing. Probably wouldn't have passed without it^^
I mean the screen wobble is there because of the hinge, I don't think they really "intended" on you to use the pen for prolonged sessions without flipping it over to a tablet mode.
I never had a laptop under 17" and never a tablet under 10" hmm I'll let this one go
your lower back will give up before 40
^^
Never Above 9 or 10" would make more sense in what u saying.
+Herman Smink you mean over 10"
+Nicko Porras well my galaxy tab is 10.1 inch
I have a notebook that provides a fantastic note taking experience with a huge lightweight tablet when I need it and I can play Fallout 4 on it. I can't imagine switching away from the Surface Book line until somebody else can provide a similar single device experience.
Hey dude, i know it's been 2 years, but have you had any problems with your SB? I have one atm and I'm worried about long term usage with heavy usage
Surface kills iPad yet again, Surface book > iPad Pro
too bad nobody will pay 2500 for a surface. :))))
A laptop vs a tablet, pick one of them. Honestly, windows on a tablet sucks balls anyways
+Tom W. Windows 8 on tablets it's pretty good imo (not RT, the full desktop OS)
+ethancedrik iPad Pro is a joke and this Surface Book is too overhyped.
Androx5000 In your opinion, sure.
I still use the Surface RT today. Granted there are better options and it wasn't the cheapest, but it does the job and is very handy for University.
The touchscreen and pen aren't for use when in Laptop form! That's gimmicky and not ergonomic. Stop crying about wobbly screen when you're using it in a manner it's not meant for. The trackpad and keyboard is for use in Laptop form, the touchscreen and pen is for use in Tablet form (be it attached to the base or not). In that case, there's no wobble in neither Laptop nor Tablet form.
Tap any laptop's screen and it'll wobble too.
I was kind of expecting a full blown rant coming into this video... but it was great and I might actually consider upgrading to a Surface Book.
hahaha only in the US you say, guess ime just gonna use tunnel bear then ;)
Really cool, ive always debated weather i need a high performance laptop since If i wanted to do any demanding work I would just use my desktop. I would mostly use the tablet features mostly for productivity and web surfing.
"I never use anything grater than 7 inches"
-That's what she said :P
I like that they used a regular battery in the stylus, that way it won't ever run out of capacity.
This thing is a gaming machine too, GTA5 60fps 1080 high settings. :/
I think you're talking about the Surface Book with performance base.
15:10 looks awesome for a small screen. Normally I wouldn't go near such a small screen but a non 16:9 ratio seems to pull it off nicely.
I'm sorry but for me Apple make the best laptops out there, I don't care for touch screen on a laptop and OS X is just way nicer to use then Windows. Before you all start hating on me I have a self built gaming tower (Windows obviously) and 2 linux servers. I watch LTT for a reason.
Matthew Corr Well the whole statement was a personal preference. The whole windows vs mac is a personal preference argument. Both can be purchased with high end hardware
+Fraser Hughes A touchscreen on a laptop just adds bulk, the screen is wobbling around and the hinge suffers from the constant pushing and moving (that's something the surface has figured out pretty well). Also, I would argue it's uncomfortable to use in the first place, since the distance between the trackpad and screen is too big.
And if all of these weren't enough, your laptop screen ends up being a fingerprint mess.
César de la Cal you detach it and use it like a tablet. Id rather have a touchscreen than not. It only makes sense on surface devices though.
+Asura Lee I just don't see the concept working on hinged laptops (which is the way most makers are implementing it, the Surface book included). A hinge is just not designed to withstand that kind of usage and is most likely to wear way faster.
The surface Book is a pointless piece of hardware anyway, the point that the GPU is in the keyboard part is more gimmick than anything else and serves no real world purpose. I would suggest that the Surface Pro or even the iPad Pro are a superior concept (and I say concept because the execution is poor on Apple's end too).
There is way better ways Microsoft could have provided upgradable GPUs (PCMCIA Style add on cards or some kind of miniPCIe adapter) for example and they could have made a keyboard that supports the unit way better. The triangular stand that Apple uses, for example, gives the iPad a lot of support and is relatively cheap to replace in the case it ever wears.
I want to get the Surface Book so freaking bad, but it's not yet available in most of europe. Good review Linus.
Hey Linus! I just wanna say that this was very good, objective Review. Well done! I appreciate it really that there are guys like you who tests products and...well, helping people with their decision whether they should buy this product or not :)
The constant on and off of the Microsoft product video was perfect and kept making me laugh for some reason.
I love how this sponsor being US only can easily be worked around by your other sponsor Tunnelbear!
Would you ever do a tech video on doing something to your SV650. I have one myself and would love to see you add a new digital dashboard!
You need to review the Surface Pro 4. Although some of your ergonomics complaints will remain, your stylus concerns have been resolved, the new keyboard is even better than the previous one, and the screen has improved. On paper, the performance has also improved. I'd like to see what you think of it.
About touchscreens on laptops, I don't care about it on macs because I think that they nailed the multi touch track pad, which is the only time I want one on laptops really, whereas it is nice on PCs on which the multi touch gestures in the trackpad just does not work (on the devices I have used anyway)
