- The Surface Studio was, by far, one of the most hyped releases of 2016. Is it possible for a device almost solely aimed at creatives to live up to that hype?

New direction for microsoft is very apple like. No upgradability, no repairs, fancy looking and expensive as fuck.
You can upgrade the harddrive, though. You can't do that on a Mac anymore.
LZ How cant you do that? Did they start to solder them to the mobo or what? Jesus..
Adam Vulture Yep.
Adam Vulture ...but not suited for professional designers 😂😂 there is just no market for it. Flush it
applies to their controllers too.
It is the first ever desktop PC built by Microsoft. People often forget that
In fact, in my opinion, it's an AWESOME start!
Arul The studio is horrible. Microsoft is trying too hard to be Apple
ZombyUniverse
>In fact
>In my opinion
Pick one ffs.
No.
Pravin Ramana It uses cheap components, lacks the features that a Wacom tablet has, and appeals to a demographic if people who want to look "interesting", "relatable", and "professional". They're trying to get users to pay for a 2,000 dollar hinge. People are only calling it revolutionary because of the pure imagination ad campaign, which is kind of sad because people screamed at Apple for doing the exact same thing.
$4,200?! I think I'll stick to my *Windows 95 "Paint"* thank you very much.
Hell! My MacBook is more than 2 times cheaper.
Iam Cleaver its also a much less impressive device with a much slower gpu and cheaper display. not really a good way to compare those either way. find a windows laptop with the same cpu and gpu as your macbook if you want a replacement/comparison.
Infinity Master Windows 95 and 98 Mspaint was better.
When you hold + or - on numpad, the erasrr and paint brush used to enlarge a lot more than Win Xp-10 paint..
you can't run UA-cam on Windows 95
Fuck UA-cam. Windows 95 don't need UA-cam.
Just sell the damn screen separately Microsoft. I already have a beefy PC, now give me that gorgeous 3:2 screen!
Also, IMO trying to attract the Apple userbase is silly. People loyal to that brand will never change. For them it's not about productivity or quality, it's mainly the Apple logo and trying to come across as a hipster at their local Starbucks.
Same!!
I hope that before they do that they will significantly improve pen tech. It's about goddamn time.
(mumbling) fucking hipsters (more mumbling)
COMBO yeah, because you can draw on monitors can't you?
Funny, I bought my 5K iMac precisely because of the productivity and quality. It's ideal for my workflow, looks great and still costs less than most dedicated 5K displays. (In other words: don't cling to stereotypes, please)
hey microsoft, please just let me buy the monitor, pen, and dial for somewhere around 1k-1.5k
the monitor is probably worth 1.5k by itself.
Yeah the monitor should be expensive consider it is designed to sensor touch pressure.
Ryan Origin that's not what makes the monitor expensive, the high color range 4.5k screen is probably ads that price.
And then you'd better hope it's actual glass, as if it's plastic any tiny little grit that eventually gets on that stylus is going to scratch the hell of things after a while.
pauljs75 some drawing tablets have Grit etched onto the glass to simulate paper that's what they come replacement nibs.
Bob Ross would be so proud of the thumbnail
For all the people complaining about it being "underpowered" guess what? IT'S NOT FOR YOU! This is clearly a design oriented device, not something for gaming or video editing.
Cinder Block Studios you could still do a lot better for a lot cheaper with a Wacom device and a custom built pc
oh I agree, but this would be a nice space saver. It's a very niche market device
true, but a better processor and gpu would've helped, it's meant to render things after all, the soldered ram didn't help at all
Depends a bit on what program you need to run. If you don't need something that utilizes GPU memory then it's not that big of a deal. I would have like to see at least a desktop cpu myself though.
Depends on the program you need to use.
Microsoft just handed apple their ass
Mihkel Rebane Except its outdated and really really expensive, but mac doesn't have a good computer for professional use (at least not a cheap option, surprisingly)
also, cus of the unique features, the pricing is right. they havnt pulled an Apple.
Tigershark232 4000 dollars for a mobile CPU and GPU? that's not right pricing.
except that all apple products are outdated 2 years before they are released. lol
Just get a touch screen monitor and mount it on a hinge?
Maybe it'd be an inefficient use of time, but I wish Luke and Linus did reviews together occasionally.
I got the Surface Dial for the sole thought of timeline scrubbing for editing projects. It works with any Windows 10 PC (through Bluetooth) and you can customize the twist and clicks to be (almost) any key press through Windows Settings, so it actually works amazingly! Highly recommended for quick and easy analog control to move across many or few frames at a time and make quick cuts. It also feels great to use, so that's a bonus.
I felt embarrassed every once I saw the Apple PC war in the comment as a PC+Mac cross-platform user... I'm using the windows 10 desktop for gaming, Concept Design, User interface design and Mbp for music production, schooling, and designing when I'm unable to use my desktop PC.
Trust me, most of the time your decision between the PC and Mac would just be followed by your preferences, computer is not just about performance, If you found your chosen one, go ahead have it, If you regretted, treat the money you've spent as the taxes to helps you find a better one.
+Ishan Almazi MACISHORRIBLEMACISHORRIBLEWINDOWSISTRASHWINDOWSISTRASH
Evan Huang Yep, let ignore all the wrongdoing both companies did.
Do you have any idea what PC you can build with 4 000$?
I prefer not fighting with my OS over some minimal performance increases (I don't do computation heavy tasks on a day to day basis so the performance benefits would be minimal)
Waka yes we do have an idea what you could build for 4K.
Now here is the thing : do you have any idea how much a pro level graphic tablet with integrated screen cost? Around 2K. And not with a display like that.
Adds in around 1500 for a desktop with those specs (although you could run a more modest machine).
Then you still have to get an external monitor.
Actually, if you're a pro illustrator or designer, yes this is worthing the price.
You don't need the 24 cores and three buses of 64gb of RAM each; a screen/tablet like worth much more for an artist, trust me.
This is a real pro design machine, compared to the gimmicky MacBook pro with the ridiculous tiny touch bar, the new Mac Pro with cost 5K for specs I'm laughing at...
And I used to be a Mac user...
If I had the money then yes, as a photographer, video editor, designer then I would definitely buy this.
Remote Desktop now transmits pressure sensitivity information so power users can use this as a terminal and connect it to as massive a machine as they want.
5:45 "Unexceptional specs" I'm sorry Luke, I don't think anyone considers a 6820HQ, GTX 980M, and 32GB of DDR4 to be unexceptional in this type and size of a computer. Stop acting like last-gen hardware immediately becomes unusable or non-viable when new stuff is released. It's a PC designed for artists - this thing doesn't need a 1080 and a 7700k.
Jeff Peters Well it is complete garbage for that price and that's why it's unacceptable in my opinion.
Jeff Peters that isn't the point
It's due to the fact that a machine that costs $4200 is using old internals. That's the kind of cheap shit that Apple do (with that being said a top spec 15" MBP would cost the same and would eat it for breakfast)
Yeah, you can argue that you're paying for the design/the R&D, but tech guys won't care unless it has the latest and greatest packed inside of it. Graphic designers will still buy this, but expect a lot of tech-minded people to be annoyed at the proposition.
Samie Sahim this isn't made for the simple tech guys wich are addicted to specs that doesn't make much difference other than being a better gaming device, this is made for artists and designers. they care much more about the display. this display is one of the best displays ever built in a pc like device. for a touch display at this size and with this superb quality you would actually have to pay around 2000$ without the computer. so actually i don't think this is overpriced. expensive, yes, but not overpriced
Samie Sahim Sadly I must inform you that one 4200 surface studio will eat multiple macs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The thing does need a better gpu. This screen is running a ridiculous resolution, a 965m or a 980m won't even be able to run the programs artists and designers need in a year or so on this resolution. And there's no upgrade path. Simply adding thunderbolt would allow users to upgrade the gpu later. And remember, when professionals buy computers, they buy them to last years. They aren't thrown away in a year or two like most high end gaming PCs, so their specs have to be high enough to last.
Nice chub 'n tuck Luke!
lol
7:45 Six days before this video was uploaded, Microsoft released Insider Preview Build 15002 to the Fast Ring, adding the functionality to map the wheel motions to keyboard shortcuts on a per-app basis, so Taran will get his "Fancy custom macros" soon, when the Windows 10 Creators Update is fully released.
Linus I'm so disappointed in you where are my CAT TIPSSSS
Sal7_one _ ok
Sal7_one _ ok
i read cat Piss lololol
rodrigo maldonado there is actually a channel called LinusCatTips if you don't know but he doesn't upload much there ;-;
that is like the least popular channel hosted by LMG.
The start of the video was amazing
Good to see Luke doing a review again honestly.
fucking stereotypes, most artists in videogame industry use windows for digital art and painting for years, also high number of programs is equal for more creativity fredom and all that for less money and better hardware, and mac is better for produce music? you have more virtual instruments in windows and i never had problems producing music in windows
I have 13 ms latency on core i 5 machine. this is nothing. if you get a firewire audio card it can get even lower
ASIO dude.
+KRG I think you're still living in the past
wrath257 i used asio for years with FL studio. It sucked so badly i invested 3000€ in a mac just because the performance and stability. You do simply not produce on a pc. Please grow up.
Y'all need to learn the difference between ASIO4ALL (the POS that comes with FL), and an actual ASIO driver. I run 80+ channels into a PC with sub 10ms latency on a regular basis.
What a waste of money for a mediocre laptop with a touchscreen.
Robyn Highart tell that to the mac fanboys
Zenyatta- Overwatch lol
Robyn Highart its a drawing tablet computer for professionals not a gaming PC idiot
That display isn't mediocre......
It still sucks compared to existing solutions (wacom cintiq + a really powerful desktop pc). Cuz that's what graphic/media professionals really value.
That intro/Skit was amazing. Good shit.
Now for the important question.
Can it run Gentoo?
I N S T A L L G E N T O O
*I N S T A L L I N G*
Holcombi comin in with the real questions.
I expected "will it blend"
But will libwacom2 get you there when the usual libwacom falls short? Or will lsusb and lspci still list unknown or generic devices? Can you get the full Krita experience?
Did you draw the Tiger luke? It's quite nice
In that painting app you have already made templates for you to experiment. The tiger is one of them.
thanks
I have a surface studio and it is great, better than IMac, MacBook or Mac Pro, in my opinion and it is great for drawing too, I am an artist, kind of and I love it
JasonOmega are you joking lmao. It’s cheaper to get a far superior iMac (in terms of specs/hardware) and iPad Pro + Apple Pencil for drawing (which are also superior in terms of specs/ hardware)
Jaybba the Hutt Honestly it's superior and cheaper to get a Wacom Cintiq
Vanessa Li but either way, if you get an iPad Pro or a Wacom Cintiq, both are better than a surface studio
@@jayantgupta6798 you wanna talk specs, bitch? The $16000 Mac can be built as a PC +all accessories for under $4000.
@@your_average_cultured_dude u are obviously a man of culture and education
The thumbnail needs to be a meme
Issac Coltman I agree
This is obviously an prosumer product directed at a niche market.. unlike the MacBook "pro", if I was professionally into drawing or flash animation or photo editing, this would seem like an good buy for me. If I absolutely HAD to get an Osx product.. well.. a hackentosh?
GengarTV a hackintosh is a pain in the ass
Also, if you wanna draw, you may as well invest in a drawing tablet you know
Not really, if you are a professional digital artist and you want a drawing screen/tablet you will go with Wacom... The problem with the surface is the pen sensibility (which is a important feature for an artist). It's bad compared to a Wacom Cintiq. It will cost you less to buy a more powerful PC and add a Cintiq.
I tried out one of these at the local Microsoft Store. The pen tracking is absolutely horrible. It's literally impossible to draw a straight line, even with a ruler. Wobbles all over the place. Way worse than my ancient 12" Cintiq, which only wobbles near the edges of the screen, and even then only half as bad as this thing.
I mean, come on Microsoft. You make this beautiful machine for creatives and you can't even get the pen tech right? This is basic stuff!
Apple, for all its screw-ups lately, at least got the pen tech right on the iPad Pro. It's accurate as hell, zero parallax, and straight lines actually draw straight. Now that the Astropad Pro app is out, I can connect my iPP to my Mac and use it like a HiRes Cintiq with zero lag over WiFi. That's the experience MS and Wacom need to beat right now.
Honestly, I'd like this, and I'd NEVER use the touch screen.
Just give me the high res, beautiful 3:2 panel
I think Microsoft needs a high five for effort. For a first generation product, this is pretty good. Sure, there's some work to be done before they become market leaders, but this is a good first attempt IMO :)
linus sketch tips
I roll my eyes every time somebody complains that the latest and greatest tech isn't in this thing. The components are soldered, the mechanical engineering for thermals takes time, board layout takes time, power supply design take a time. You can't just drag and drop a 1080 on top of a 980 and call it good people. This shouldn't have to be explained.
+TalesOfWar Well Microsoft isn't exactly a hardware company, I assume the only communication they get with Nvidia/AMD is on drivers
Oh, and I guess Xbox components with AMD.
TalesOfWar Even if they did, all of the aforementioned things would have to be reworked, and those things take months. Source: I am a embedded engineer with over a decade of experience in building and releasing products from the ground up.
Nobody is complaining because of engineering, its because a custom pc at this price would demolish this, yes I understand what ur trying to say but it's the companies job to get around this issue no matter how difficult
ratbert90 They are whining about it because it's price is 4 times the price of a medium to high end gaming PC.
1:20 T H I C C
what is wrong with you
just another comment 10 months later
my boi down bad
It's great to watch Microsoft become a vertically integrated hardware/software company with its' own relevant devices. The proprietary display connection is probably because it's not just displaying stuff, it's a fully equipped input device thingy. I hope the next version is a full-blown effort, not just a first-draft plus extra specs.
if they can make a gaming version of the surface studio, i think it would be sick!!
Kiet Le true
$4000 gaming pc can get you more than a 980m. you can get sli 1080s for that price. so a 980m is garbage for the price
Kiet Le Doesn't mean it can't game any less...
Mr.Perfect tru though i would want a gtx 1080 on that screen and that price, that 9080 is for video editing and stuff.
jimmyt1988 i think more than that, i think ive seen a 980m do 50 fps on ultra settings witchrr 3
for 4200$ you can get a Cintiq 27" and a similar pc configuration, but not 4k. Wacom only has a 4k pro tablet at the moment. So I'd say Microsoft has a very promising start, however they lack the many years experience of tablet designing which Wacom has. The natural response of Wacom would be to release a 4k pen display, in which case the choice here would be obvious.
this isn't 4k, it's more like 5k
well honestly, the aspect ratio should be a bigger selling point than the resolution for any sane professional, anyways. it's absolutely ridiculous that people let 16:9 become the standard for actual work application
But it is much easier to draw super good on my cintiq
the cintiq? lots of stuff that is sold primarily to industry looks like that.
for 4200$ you can actually get a cintiq 27 or cintiq pro 16 plus a way better pc configuration in terms of hardware performance...
Ive been disappointed by thumbnail clickbait before... but this... I literally had every hope of Luke Ross walking us through it
"Limited due to their design window?" Bullshit Microsoft, you could have omitted the PC components in the first place, and just sold it as a monitor, with a USB 3.1 HUB and blue tooth, and sell it for half the price WITH the dial.
Maybe after a few years people can mod this by gutting the PC parts out and turn it into a monitor like i just described?
Still no video input...
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie The screen alone costs over $2000. This isn't expensive because they can. It's expensive because the screen alone is more than half the cost of the device.
Or people could just say forget it and buy a wacom.
I always hated those mac vs. pc ads. A mac is a pc.
Mikael Andersson that's not how Apple markets Macs though. They try to be "different". If you compare most PCs to a mac in the same price range, there would be no reason to get a Mac.
I mean if you value the style and different ui to the amount of the premium you pay, thats fine. For me it's not worth it but each to their own, we all value different things.
Mikael Andersson by definition a console is a computer lol.
Blue rectangle man I didn't even mention consoles
Mikael Andersson you're technically correct but duh
That opening gag is the best recreation of the old Get a Mac ads. Way better than any others. Seriously, don't even bother with those.
Wait, the Surface doesn't come with a surface to place your Surface on?
For an extra $650, yes.
I observe a direct correlation between:
- Amount of people complaining about the silly thumbnails
- Amount of new silly thumbnails
Keep going at it, guys! It's working! 😂
That intro was amazing. If only I could like the vid twice.
Linus artists don't use Mac. Only graphic designers and photographers and stuff do. Actual painters and game artists all have pcs.
This things still just an overpriced cintiq setup which is hilarious
Overpriced not at all...
G-Metric I can make a complete rig with the cintiq for at least 3k and have much superior specs.
Everyday Bodybuilding because artists are broke 😂😂
But could you make the surface studio for 3K
What!!!!??? How did you get a picture with Bob Ross????
The best intro to a tech video I've seen :)
problem is the base model is garbage for its specs and price
that apple experience tho
2ND gen will most likely be like the surface book and come standard with a i7
NonsensicalVids this isnt made for bang for ur buck in mind
its made for professionals so bang for bucks isnt important
so is the 2016 Macbook Pro
NonsensicalVids if you only look at specs sure, but if you take into consideration the build quality and all that its pretty reasonable
I would love this if they sold this as a separate monitor then I could pair it with a mac mini.
Even if they don't want to do that, it would have been a much more compelling product if it had a DisplayPort in socket so that after the computer hardware is obsolete you can still use it for a long time as a great display and interface setup. The computer hardware was obsolete when this came out and by not letting the best parts of it live on they're just making more e-waste.
Back to the olden days of those "Get a Mac" ads. Great job...

That Mac vs PC intro...nailed it 😂😂🤣🤣
I can't see how people could come, aim about price when Apple charges about 2k for a MacBook Pro with less ports and very gimmicky "touch at bar" rather than a touchscreen, and a pair of easy-to-lose wireless earphones that cost $150 to boot
People complain about apple too tho...
People complain about anything, including how much money other people spend in whatever they want. And I'm here, complaining about people complaining about things.
Kruqtion MacBook Pro has four thunderbolt 3 ports and is capable of connecting an eGPU/dual 5K displays/4X 4K displays. I don’t know any other laptop has such connectivity.
Allan Sh I'm pretty sure that you can only use two of those slots for TB3 speeds. Don't quote me on that though, as I don't have one. There already are laptops with 2 TB3 ports. And you don't really need thunderbolt on a laptop if you have a desktop and keep your data on a stick or on cloud, since those have better connectivity.
Allan Sh but one, eGPUs are expensive and heavy, and is the MacBook Pro able to run multiple 4K displays anyways, last time I heard it wasn't running either a powerful graphics card or SLI
I know this is a long comment but I'd appreciate it if you read it anyway...
We all know that the hardware is pretty disappointing, but you have to remember that the PC is in that tiny little box, not an ATX computer case! Linus stated in the WAN show when the Surface Studio was unveiled that the reason it is configured with "last gen" hardware and IO is because they had already finished designing the product by the time Nvidia released their 10 series GPU's, and Intel released their Thunderbolt 3. It's not like Microsoft used last gen hardware just because they want to piss everybody off. However, there is still area's of this device that can be improved, but you have to remember that this is just a first attempt, and it is likely Microsoft will release an updated version of this product some time in the future. It may be pricey and not perfect, but no product has been perfect on it's first attempt. At least it is unique, and certainly brings something new to the table.
oh my god, as an artist, want
I've seen this before it was released and I was already drooling over it
Yeah honestly, Why didn't they just make the "computer" part of the screen into a stand and sell the screen as it's own thing so artists with more powerfull computers could have this very nice screen and accessories. Oh well :/
you could still install ios on this, probably.
No, you can't install iOS on this. Unless you are a god at BIOS-coding.
OSX is not a Desktop OS either, it's a marketing scheme like like everything else Apple....
A cintiq?
What exactly is BIOS coding?
Did you just say Unique packaging? IT'S A iMac CLONE THAT RUNS A BUGGY FUCKING OS!
MIND Not an iSheep. I use Windows 10 for gaming and some other stuff. macOS blows it out of the water when i want to be productive.
Which means you're a mac poweruser, not a windows poweruser, which is the deciding factor.
As a windows poweruser + software developer, I don't ever want to switch to mac. Have a bit of experience with it and I hated it.
It's all personal preference and what you do with it. For me and my job it's easier and better to use Windows.
Furthermore what isn't personal preference is how much overpriced it is to get an Apple device. Sure this surface pro is expensive, but Windows is on all kinds of machines. Mac is only on machines made by Apple.
Can you please explain to me how MacOS is better than windows for productivity? The entire adobe suite is also on windows... I'm really confused how this could be the case.
Markiso Wickstorm ALERT! ALERT!ALERT! ALERT! iSheep INCOMING!
MacOS is more productive in most cases since it has less problems (I think IBM calculated the savings of using Macs outscales their higher price - google it). Also MacOS is superior in terms of architecture, as it is based on UNIX and not crappy MSDOS, it's just more complete however it would be nice if you could just install it on other hardware (officially). But then again I'd love C# if it wasn't for MS. After all the world is a nasty place and no perfect solution exists, we can only choose which downside we hate the least :D
You guys nailed it with the Apple ad spoof!
why the f didn't they just make the stand wider to fit more powerful hardware for a more affordable price in there?
I know, right? It could literally be twice as thick on the base which would change NOTHING in the usability or sleek look but it would suck less. Atleast you could perhaps change these garbage internals.
Micromation All soldered in. Can't change a damn thing except for maybe the SSD.
But But But Will it run crysis
yes yes yes it will
Awesome job Luke, that was the best positive negative review I have seen in a long time.
For $4000 , give us at least a GTX1080, 64GB of Ram and MORE ports!
You are forgetting that the screen itself is worth around $3000 and this was build while 1080 was non existent. In my opinion, they should have a monitor only option.
Ryan Origin Another one of those gamers who don't realise what this is build for and why it costs so much.
Ryan Origin A comparable monitor alone would cost at least 2-3000 without a PC.
64gb is too overkill tho
Not for video editing.
I have a surface studio I'm going to try to take it back or re-sell it. It isn't horrible but it isn't specced how it should be for the price point and lack of usability later in it's life. It would be more effective to buy a Cintiq, NUC or mini pc such as a Zotac, or even build a mini-itx system and in the end you'd come out having upgradability, expandability, superior specs from the get-go, higher sensitivity all at a lower price point.
For anyone interested in buying one, if you're a professional illustrator or 2d artist, go for it. If you are a 3d generalist or character designer, it's going to start struggling on those high detail sculpts.
Microsoft is on the right track with this, but they don't need to go so far as to copy apple's shitty price to performance standard as well.
Put at least one USB-C on there and make it so I can connect the display to another system and I would be keeping it. Alas it was not to be.
a cintiq 27 inch with a stand cost like $2700 and it only has pressure sensitivity as an advantage, these devices are really about the screen and the work flow they enable they are not meant to be stuffed with the highest end hardware.
Alpha17x this is probably the most helpful comment I've seen in this section...I'm a cartoonist and I'm looking to get this microsoft surface studio to do my comic work. Would it be a good device to do cartoons on? or do you rather recommend the cintique wacom tablet
I don't know about you but this to Imeseems almost a dev package and will I don't do that kind of work next gen might be interesting just has a few more kinks to work out. Make the touch pad stay and add a video in and it would be awesome.
I am excited to see the Surface Studio 2 and future Surface Pros. The EVE thing has a USB type C and all sorts of nice things that sadly aren't on the SP4 or the NSP (I still like the SP4 though. Hasn't ever failed me), and I am eager to see what cool and fantastic features will be on future models of both the Surface and the Studio :)
if you are an artist, forget mac pro, get surface instead, you won't regret it...
Get a cintiq and use a mac or pc. You won't regret it.
unknown did you buy the surface studio ? and how is the device good for drawing? i want to get the surface studio but i want to know if it will be good for doing cartoons and stuff
Look like a 2017 iMac G4

I don’t hate Microsoft, I like them, but I still prefer apple
Lol y
Sheep
Omg u like ur own comment
If Microsoft didn't apple the price it would have been flawless. And atleast put a GTX 1080 in there, were fitting them in laptops, you can fit it in this. I expect 2nd gen to be the bees knees but this first one has its few, but heavy flaws.
Asterisk lmao, they finished this product before the 10 series was even unveiled.
Mr.Perfect Really? That makes a lot more sense. Now this just makes me wonder why it took so long to release.
Asterisk
Probably perfecting the dial and pen
Truth is that the screen itself costs over 2000$ to build, so they havent really apple the price tbh.
Great Idea at the beginning. I love these ads
People are saying this absolutely destroys apples iMac or anything apple has made... seriously? It has mobile hardware in a desktop configuration, a HYBRID drive (Its 2017, come on) and costs leagues more. It either barely competes with the iMac or is unable to compete because it's in a completely different price range.
Don't most apple products contain hybrid drives? They market it as fusion drives
XPGaming nope, a hybrid drive sees your most used programmes and puts them on the ssd part of it not just as cache. They are clearly the same just apples marketing like and amazing Retina display that is only 720p but you'll have to dig deep to find that
I have a retina screen... It's 2560x1600... yeah, 720p
Danuka100 a

Poor mac ☹️
iMac is cheaper, more powerful and has better software (if you love MacOS that is).
Once you own an iMac or MacBook Pro, you will have a very different view of how computers should be.
Yes, Apple is purely magic. An iMac does not support touch let alone with 10 touch points, inking, Surface Dial or the screen tilting.
Yeah, but you can buy an iMac with full SSD and a Cintiq.
Ken Bayliss iMac had screen tilting 15 years ago. Plus, you can mount a current one on a VESA arm with an adapter.
Tilting to the same degrees? With 10 touch points, with inking support across the entire OS? Oh, that's right MacBook now has the Touch Bar - how innovative!
0:01 that is actually a really good ad for microsoft
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Valerie was stolen,
Everyone knows it was you.
Bono put on a few pounds.
lmao!
You killed me with the dial not being costumizable.
I would love to get one just to mess around and see what uses I can find for it. Hell, it would be very cool to play Pong and Arkanoid.
Or instead of wasting money on a surface studio just buy photoshop and use a Wacom tablet.
Nathan Davidson Wacom tablets are not computers...
Buying a Wacom tablet or and iPad Pro + iMac (the combination of the two would have far superior hardware in terms of specs) would still be cheaper than one of these
You don’t buy a surface studio to be cost efficient. You buy it to flex
Kai H to flex your weak ass parts?
Almost outdated and overpriced as Apple!
Apple does what Micro$hit don't
IronLover 64 Funny. The way you write Microsoft is ironic considering how pricey Apple's products are for what they offer. Seems like you're a bit confused, eh little boy? The Surface Studio is targeted at digital artists while Macs are targeted at normies. (Normies = Apple peasants).
Hamad Alsayed
Name me an all in one PC with a 5k display that costs under 1800$ and a mouse/trackpad hybrid under 80$(multitouch supported)
IronLover 64 First of all, stop spamming the comments section with these toxic "name me bla bla bla" comments. Secondly, the Dell Inspiron 7000 easily obliterates Apple's iMac with price-performance ratio. It doesn't have a 5k display, but that's because it seriously doesn't need one. A 4k display is perfectly fine.
A side note, you can't compare an iMac to the Surface Studio. The iMac doesn't have a touchscreen to begin with!
Another side note you idiot, all-in-ones are called that way because they are all-in-ones. You can't say "name an all-in-one computer bla bla bla with keyboard and mouse" and then expect me to name you an all-in-one without a keyboard and mouse.
That intro, was actually a good idea
... Why are you making fun of Apple?? MICROSOFT is the one you should be making fun of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why? Because they make better products than apple?
Apple is no longer center stage for all in ones that are too expensive and underpowered. This one is even more underpowered and even more expensive than a regular 27" iMac. And I imagine the cooling system is even worse than the cramped iMac.
PS:
I use both MacOS and Windows 10. I don't suffer from FanBoy disease.
Damn Luke, that belly gets bigger in every video. What's up with that?
He'd look so hot if he worked out. Damn, what a shame.
iLoveTurtlesHaha Agreed, he's a good looking guy. But that old man gut isn't the most charming.
Here is the problem with me. I can't decide between beer or 6 pack... wait....
fuck all of yall he looks wonderful and cuddly and strong
Luke is a human being. Stop treating him like walking eye candy you pig... ettes.
Loved the gloves on the string on the Window's coat
Lol nice Surface Studio advertisement xD
Its more of a review, and a tough one at that, since they make it clear that it is really only for a niche market and it fails to be as good, or even less expensive, than what those niche consumers currently prefer.
iMac and iPad Pro = better combination.
You get a better pen.
You get better software.
You pay less money.
R X You get two different devices. And besides, the iPad doesn't have a hinge like that.
HAHAHAHA Better software my ass.
Hamad Alsayed You dont need a hinge when you can take the device anywear and put it at any angle
Jaybba the Hutt Any angle? Yeah yeah, any angle my ass. Can you find me a case that can adjust the iPad to literally ANY angle like the Surface Studio's? I doubt it.

go fuck urself, this can do 10x the number of angles as the surface studio.
They need to make a standalone monitor that can hook up to a power rig. I love that screen.
What a horrible review. You clearly didn't understand the market this was targeting. Which is all in one desktops. And an added feature of the Mac is the touchscreen and surface pen. You're comparing to custom builds and computers with separate monitor. This is an all in one experience Microsoft PC.
No my friend. It's an all-in-one experience Microsoft PC for people who a) Do not care in the slightest about performance AND b) have a LOT of money to throw around ($3K base come on bro let's be real). And it's not like graphic designers will buy it... Wacom on Macs is a far better platform for far less money.
Also, you're wrong. It's literally called the Surface STUDIO. Have you seen the ads? They almost exclusively depict people making art on it. The market is DEFINITELY for creative pros. Their website even says it's designed for creatives.
thecool24681 i just got one on a lease that cost the same amount at the end for buyout in two years. With option to upgrade to new models. The lease makes it much more enticing to 'buy'
It's using a mobile processor that's a generation behind, I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't use mobile processors in their Macs. If Microsoft used a desktop processor and a decent gpu it would've gotten a better review.
Harrison Williams Except that A) Macs have bigger bases giving them the advantage of having better processors. And besides it's not like Apple is winning. Their thermal designs are complete and utter shit compared to Microsoft's B) The Studio is not even targeted at normal usage people. Those who buy it wouldn't give two shits about what specs they're getting. They only need it for DIGITAL DESIGN. Something some of the Apple knuckleheads won't understand.
The specs here are enough for anything.
You guys should totally dedicate a channel to do PC vs Mac videos! I loved watching those videos on Apple's website!
Prolly my favorite LTT intro ever
That input lag when you were using your fingers - lol!
loved the doss on apple there. miss those old "Get a Mac" ads.
Dude your enunciation is totally on point!
I used to watch Bob Ross when I was little, always very relaxing how he spoke while painting lol. It's interesting how there's over 2k likes on a comment saying to stop the silly thumbnails yet only 628 dislikes on the video itself. Regardless keep em up, makes my day XD.
The Surface Dial does not work with all PCs with Bluetooth. It only works with Surface devices. I in fact bought one to use with my desktop, but as soon as it would pair with my PC, it would lock up the machine for 30 seconds, unlock for 30 seconds, and repeat forever. I reached out to MS for support and they said it's only supported on Surface devices. That might change in the future, who knows.
Reminds me of the iMac G4. All the computer in the base, with a super fluid moving arm connecting to a display
The intro is top quality!
I almost went for this but then came across another well known manufacturer that I have had great success with in the past that offered an i7 quad core, half T SSD drive for the main drive, 3T D drive, 32 gigs of ram for less than half the price. Lots of 2 and 3 USB ports. No display, but since I mostly edit videos, I use a 15' screen with an HD projector (which I already have). It screams. At this point I have no regrets. Plus I can use external drives to store all my archived footage with no problem. Inputting the footage is also a no brainer. Just plug in the card. Not to mention, lots of available internal slots to upgrade or add proprietary inputs if needed for sound cards etc since I also work with sound a lot. Oh and did I mention that it loads windows 10 in about 5 or 10 seconds? Basically by the time I sit down with my coffee It's ready to go. I admit the display almost got me, but not worth the difference since when I'm editing vids I prefer the 15' screen. But you're right, it almost got me until I looked a bit deeper.
Was so engrossed in the video that I forgot to stick you on x1.5 speed like usual
the skit at the beginning would be a good commercial for windows 10
I really hope that they release just the screen as a standalone product, because, well, once you get used to dual or tri monitor, you almost can't live without it.
Also, Cintiq is useful but certainly not for everyone. I personally find it okay to just use a Bamboo and, in the future if I ever want to switch gear it will be a Intuos Pro, it's just me, but it certainly means not everyone loves drawing on screen. The point is, if you are not a fan of drawing directly on the screen, Surface studio won't really change that. The dial is, well, I'd say really more for music production or anything that really needs a dial, rather than drawing. For drawing, well, maybe if you rotate the pic a lot it will be useful, but other than that, not really. I mean, you really need that fancy dial to pick color when it's super easy to just use the on-screen color wheel?
But, at least this thing is by far the best prototyping tool I guess. No much accuracy but super easy to use, and for documents it's easy to preview and take notes on.
Oh snap! I love that Century Gothic font that says "Surface Studio"
Loved the intro, man!
