    Bryan, thank you for showing us how to manually calculate your required speed and I thought that it was cool how you could change the ships clocks by flipping a switch!

    Thank you. It’s very interesting to get a look at how all these container ships move around. Very much appreciate your style of information for those of us stuck on land! Cheers.

    I have done deck hand work on tugboat with and without barges. Understanding time differences and figuring out departure and arrival times is necessary.
    Only difference is the jobs tugboat do .
    With that said I am still a newbie seaman with lots to learn thank you for sharing.

    Thanks for the explanation Bryan. This would make my head hurt trying to figure out all of this time change business! But that clock change with the flip of that switch is the coolest! I'd hate to have to go around to all of them and do that manually like they did in the days of yore!

    Thanks for sharing this particular info. I remember going all over the ship every day changing clocks crossing Pacific ending up crossing date linewith 2 mondays going east in stead of 2 sundays . Captains orders!

    Hello captain thanks for your informative videos I really like learning from your channel to prepare my self for marine examination. Captain I'm asking for your permission to download some of your videos for education purpose only. I'd be thrilled to have permission if not it's ok no problem. Much respect ✌

    Have your routes ever brought you up into the Delaware Bay? (Not sure if ships your size still offload in Philly)

    If your calculation is distance (miles) over time (hours), wouldn't the result be in mph and not knots? Or is your starting distance in nautical miles?

      Had the same thought. Could hear my old Physics teacher shouting UNITS at me :D

      1 nautical mile per hour is 1 knot as far as I know.

    The sound of that marker is like nails on a caulk board. But cool to see the math.

    Interesting. Is it necessary to account for anything that might stop the ship (not likely I guess) and also is there an optimum speed for fuel savings or does the docking time take that into account ?

    • @silviunastase5571
      @silviunastase5571 2 роки тому

      Optimum speed for fuel savings- we use to ballast the head sometimes and that saves fuel. However, this is not always possible due to load distribution as per cargo plan. When a C/E calculates the fuel consumption one has to take into cobsideration the hull fouling with marine growth-it is calles a slip and after a dry dock we add 2% slip for each year since last dry dock.

    I do wonder how often ships arrive early or late due to a time zone error!

    Why is it necessary to change local time to UTC for working out the required speed? What does UTC stand for? Thanks.
