In my one time driving a Humvee in the USMC, I learned it has open diffs. The way to counteract it and get the cheapest locked diff was to ride the brakes while adding throttle. It worked evey single time. That is the only time I drove one in my life, and I was thoroughly impressed with its ability to crawl over stuff with such a low suspension travel forcing it to have 1 or 2 wheels off the ground. Let your Hummer buddies know this BEFORE they get stuck and you might save the day, not to mention a winch rope, too.
Thanks so much for your service in the USMC!!! Humvees are an awesome machine you are definitely correct about riding the brakes to transfer the power, it's possible he was not riding the brakes hard enough, yes saving the winch lone for another day is a good thing to!! We had such a fun day out on the trail that day even getting stuck on the rocks!!!
Seems like the H1 could benefit from a piece of quarter inch plate joining both frame rails from end to end. You could make small access ports for fluid changes. Make the panels removable for service. But that would have definitely saved any potential damage in that situation.
Yeah that would totally help, I found out after this day he has a full set of skid plates he has not installed yet I'm sure he will be putting them on now!
Considering the hummers are all pretty much stock and all the Jeeps have been modded.. you gotta hand it off to the hummers. I am curious to see how a stock Jeep would do tho.
Man them Humvees are crazy. That one spot where the h2 got stuck and then the h1/humvee got stuck too made me realize that the h2 didn't do too bad lol. I have an h2 myself but only have had it for a few months and haven't done any offroading. Just been fixing one problem after another.
It definitely a lot of fun wheeling the H2 and most people don't think they are thar capable!! Yeah driving older trucks you definitely run into issues, but one they are fixed they are great trucks!
Imagine what more could have been explored but because some dumass got a HMMV stuck on a pointy rock in the middle of a roundabout. Jesus I’d be pissed.
wow do hummers ever suck.. especially the hideous H2 what a non flexing ,wanna be , snap together truck glad your show casing how incredibly incapable those trucks really are,. i mean i knew it but didnt know they were that bad. just a junky chevy 1500 with a hummer body is all it is in the end
@TheUnexpectedOffRoad have you ever off roaded in anything else ? Or are you just basing that reply on an h2 being your only truck you've ever been off road in? oh let me see if I can figure it out on my own. Looks into the crystal ball and flips some tarot cards over. You once had a jeep before this h2 thing .... But it was a Cherokee with 33s. And it went everywhere and never got stuck im sure. Just like every jeep ever made lol. Sold it for 3500 enough for a down payment on an h2. And thought I should start a UA-cam channel. Lol.
Wow....man you are fired up!!! Yes it's the only truck I've driven off road since 2002 also have driven a few H1's, I've never had a jeep or have even wanted one. I drive my truck because it works for me......and we'll it makes guys like you mad...which I don't understand but it's ok everyone has their opinions
The H2's performance on rocks is pretty damn convincing. I wonder how'd be with more clearance. Sadly these are underdogs
Yeah it does really good, yes they're very underrated!! More clearance and a front locker would make it so much better!
