I'm surprised she didn't smack him after he said that. I have only seen the American version of The office, which I really liked, because for some reason I couldn't get into the one episode of the British/original versionI saw. This is a bit odd because while I'm a Canadian I generally prefer British humour to anything we see here that comes out of the States. Probably because you see every punch line coming a mile away whereas British humour isn't set up like that, you guys don't stop the show for a second (cue laugh track) to pat yourselves on the back every time you say something funny. And thanks to Netflix I get to watch some British show that I normally would never have even heard of.

Watched and love them both versions for different reasons, US version is more like family/friend relationship in an office setting and a lot of character focus and development (given they have a lot of episodes), silly jokes and some awkward moments, while UK has focused on what's happening inside the office, tons of subtle jokes without setup and breaks, and pure awkwardness.
@@aberamagold7509 I am also Canadian, and I completely agree with this. I always prefer British comedy for the same reasons. They have more complex, subtle, and dry humor. Where-as I find American humor just hits you over the head with the punchline. (I've always found that Canadian comedy was a nice marriage of the two). That being said when it comes to the office, I really did prefer the American version and I was very surprised by that.

I used to work with a 'Gareth' once. The similarities between the Office character and him were uncanny. He even strolled into work one day in full cycling gear...tight Lycra, the works, and then proceeded to 'warm down' in full view of anyone who dared look. I’ve never heard so many sniggers and when he finally disappeared into his office, everyone fell about laughing.
I used to have a boss like him. Always competitive. Anything you said he just interrupted and told of his (better) exploits. The moods I'd come home in 😣
Every episode of The Office on a par with Fawlty Towers. Those two probably the top two things ever on TV. For me Keith's appraisal was up there with the best. Having been a junior office manager it was so real I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
I've never seen Mackenzie Crook crack up in any of the bloopers. Maybe they didn't show any, but I like to think he was just a bit too professional on set. He was a stand up comic, apparently, so maybe he had better self control

Might be a bit of a tangent, but this reminds me of a lot of questions one gets asked at work - in that the person is asking the question when coming from completely the wrong approach/perspective. They need to correct their whole approach and perspective, before they can even begin to ask sensible questions. But it's extremely hard, if not impossible, to convince a person that they need to completely change their approach/perspective.

UK office was just on a different level to the US one. the US version, as with most US sitcoms, relies on characters being over the top stupid for shits and giggles.
The US version actually manages to develop the characters further due to huge number of episodes, so I don't see how they are over the top. Quite the opposite. The UK version is still brilliant but the characters cannot ever stray. Gareth is always a 100% nob, can never say or do anything nice. Not quite so in the US version. I'd say the US version is almost as good as the UK but in a different way.
Its not even comparable. Every time I rewatch the UK office I'm newly amazed by it. Its one of the only truly flawless shows I've seen. The USA office is just another show. Probably better than a lot of stuff but comparing it to this is just pointless. The characters are just stupid exaggerations.

I was on holiday in Mongolia and their version renamed "yurt" was fantastic. About a chinese film crew filming at a Mongol horse heard... fantastic viewing!!! Better than the European versions!
