Dude I only just learned about PTCGL after trying to play PTCGO for the first time in like a year or two. I wanted to see my Heartgold deck and start playing again. I was so confused when I couldn't open the game, only to learn that the game is down, along with my deck... This sucks :(
I just started playing ptcgl and migrated my account from the old online game. I got a ton off Crystals for my effort and think the live game plays great. I’m on PC though
It really sucks to see all these cool features that aren't coming to Live. Even if you want to argue that this is to get new players into the game, why can't they just add all these things to the existing game? Add a simplified battle mode to the online options, add in trading, retroactively make as many old cards as you can have the "immersive card" feature, and make sure some new cards have it when new sets are released, add in trading, give players free packs for logging in each day, and add in trading (if you couldn't tell it bugs me that a Pokemon TRADING card game app doesn't have trading in it).
Well tbf both live and pocket are developed by two different teams. Obviously the pocket team has the bigger budget. Still agree though. Live seems like an afterthought with the bare minimum effort put into it and not even good, striking design. Honestly kinda sad how Konami isn’t as big as TPC, but they made a much better game in master duel despite the fact that we haven’t had a great official client for the game since forever!
Yep this is the correct take on this whole debacle. What does this do for actual players of the game? Given the huge uptick in tournament attendance you would think TPC would be pumping the dollars into supporting that community rather than a half-assed attempt to compete in an over crowded space.
I don't get if they wanted to have microtransactions just add it to PTCGL and make it a better game but no they will make a separate game for just that. Nobody would have cried about microtransactions if they had added it in PTCGL initially.
different devs and different sides of the company. Live is from TPCi, Pocket is from DeNa (Pokemon Masters EX) and Creatures Inc. ( creators of the trading card game and part of TPC). TPC and TPCi are different divisions of the same company basically. The games featured in the Presents are all greenlight from TPC, Live was developed in house by TPCi
almost 3 months after this video was uploaded, I looked up pokemon tcg on the play store, not even knowing about this announcement, downloaded TCG Live, and as soon as it starts up it shows a message warning that there's still issues with starting matches.
Sad that PTCGL (or its actual replacement) isn't getting this kind of focus. I wish that they handled Pocket similar to Duel Links, change around the duel formatting sure. But take us back to the original sets and work our way to current. Tons of people would have thrown money at the nostalgia and we'd be able to play older formats that we haven't gotten in PTCGO or PTCGL. I guess we just have to pray for twinleaf.

We use to meet pokemon break (it a evolved beyond final stage of pokemon), mega evolved, conditioned card that make 4 cards into one OP pokemon. We use to have way more supporter, item, stadium and they took out fairy type which is so much fun back in the day
this just makes me laugh. the constant reminder that PTCGL is in it's own name, functionally an international only product couldn't be more clear. part of what makes master duel work as yugioh is my surviving card game of choice is the fact that Master duel is fully international and played everywhere including japan and is therefore supported fully, where as PTCGL is just not supported remotely the same by the companies around it's IP. the reason PTCGL is such a mess is that it just doesn't have the funding nor attention, and why would it even when it's been stamped as a fixture of the TCG side. That said Master duel also has polish, has significantly less issues despite the massive card pool, and im utterly biased towards it's version of the crafting system because while it's harder to get all the cards you may want, they designed it in a way that makes opening packs always more interesting to me personally. just a few hours ago i saw a player simultaneously resolve the exodia win condition and the relay soul alternate loss condition at the exact same time, and Master duel actually did both properly despite the fact both cards are 10+ years old in an eternal format card game and relay soul other than being an "anime card" would never likely be played beyond a meme. meanwhile with PTCGL i often lag into my first match of the day, and still can't forget the game influencing glitches like searching, or how long it took for them to fix Toedscruel EX despite it being the premium battle pass boss monster of it's deck at the time. I'm not bothering with Pocket, not in the slightest. sounds like it's not even planned for a desktop release, while master duel again can be played on that too. ehh, maybe this one will run better?
you're comparing different games dude. Master Duel version of Pocket TCG is Live not Pocket. Pocket is the Duel Links of Pokemon TCG. Duel Links is a mobile game that years later got a steam version which is basically just the mobile app on Steam, with no actual change on it, and with a screen made for mobile. Pocket is Duel Links shouldn't be compared with Master Duel
@@symphonixblades I was comparing PTCGL with master duel the bulk of my post, mostly to point out how much PTCGL is disconnected from the rest of the pokemon ecosystem, whereas Part of why Master duel gets the support it needs is because they made it a more central part of their system. Iooking at it i already know it's functionally Duel Links for Pokemon.
I'm a person that spent a good amount of time, but not a LOT of time in TCGL, and.. I'm actually for this change. I've played the card game physically for a long time and have always felt that the card game needed to be updated. If anyone has played Lorcana, any card can be used as "energy" if you turn it over facedown, and I wish Pokemon would implement something like that so that you can stop having to spend 30-40 cards of your deck just in HOPES of drawing an energy card. Not to mention, TCGL runs like absolute crap on the mobile phone. Like, so so bad. It destroys my battery, and makes my phone hot. Takes forever to load into.. it needed this update, but yeah it sucks for the folks that spent a lot of time in Live.
Ah yes The game without micro transactions being left to flounder Whilst the game that will have micro transactions being treated like it’s one of the big boy Pokemon brands
It's funny how PTCGL was never seen in a Pokemon Presents ever since the game launched but yet PTCGP is getting so much attention already. I personally have my doubts about PTCGP being better than PTCGL with the fact the game's simplified and the fact that the game likely will have microtransactions. At least the balancing of the cards should be better which is a plus I suppose. Either way though, I forsee PTCGP getting a lot more attention from PTCG developers than PTCGL especially since PTCGP will likely be actually profitable. And that makes me wonder something. Are you going to be making more videos on PTCGP when it comes out? I sure would find it interesting to see a couple of gameplay videos on PTCGP when it comes with how different the rules are from the usual PTCG experience.
Live is made by TPCi, thats why it never promoted by TPC. While pocket is made by TPC so it same level as go, unite, sleep, master ex who promoted a lot.
Live is done by TPCI, so for all intents and purposes it doesn't exist to TPC and Creatures, Inc. Here there are a few promising points already. One Creatures is the creator of the PTCG and having a direct hand in the app over PTCGL which is done by TPCi (which is running it on a shoestring budget because no monetization. The biggest tone is that they partnered with a competent company known for making many mobile games, sure gacha, but competent mobile games. If you watch one of Trust's older videos TPCi didn't even hire developers who knew how to program TCGs until late 2021 or 2022 and likely a good amount of fixes in Live were because of hiring those devs to teach the devs TPCi likely hired for cheap. But because Live was operating so far from behind (remember Live started development back in 2018) , the improvements are minimal.
I've been playing TCG live for about 2 weeks now. I'm pretty addicted NGL. The simple fact that there's no micro transactions is just icing on the cake for me. Edit: I just wish there was a function for battling friends... I know there's a friend function but I haven't tested it yet....
Honestly, i am kind of interested in trying this, though i don't think it is meant to be a replacement to live. I feel like this will play quite different to the regular Pokemon TCG. I'm worried though like with Live, not all phones will be able to run this game. And i don't know if it will have online play, or if you have to directly be around someone to do a match with them. Like there are many questions i have with this game, that i hope will be answered leading up to release. I do think that there was no need to make another one when they are supposed to be putting their time and resources into Live.
I could not possibly fathom this not having online play. We are not in the Nintendo DS era with the DS rooms anymore. And what do you mean by "not all phones will be able to run this game"?
