I had the pleasure of owning an Irish draft during my time in England. Max lived up to all the claims especially the jumping enthusiasm. Disqualified me twice from horse trials because he saw what looked fun to him and wouldn’t stop or turn away!
My granduncle breed ISH (traditional, no European blood) and he has this 11 year old mare. The jump on her was unreal and when he had her handled and broken in, the people that broke her actually offered to buy her. Absolutely brilliant mare and a lot of her foals have gone on to jump around the country and in the UK
Native Irish horses went extint a long time ago, a comparison between ancient and modern horse haplo groups confirmed that. But regardless, they are a wonderful breed that deserves to be preserved.
The Horse , a species enslaved by another species . It's probably just me , but I think wild Horses are the most beautiful. They have served Humanity for a long time. I wonder what the Horses think?
There is no such thing as a "wild" horse any more, all horse species that were truly wild went extinct along time ago. the pzewalski horse the only horse species we consider wild, has been discovered to inherit from the domestic horse. Mustangs come from feral horses introduced t the Americas and they are managed by organisations that track them and catch them to maintain there populations. The same with "wild" ponies like the Newforrest ponies in the Uk that are owned and maintained by people. while they are free roaming and are an important for maintaining the heathland shrubland habitats they reside in they are not truly wild and they are not feral since their population is maintained and they serve a purpose to the environment. Horses were domesticated hundreds of thousands of years ago over many many generations because it served a mutually beneficial relationship for both person and horse. People get a mount and a work horse that can pull heavy loads, something that can turn grass into energy. and horses get safety from predators and diseases, healing for sickness and injury, access to food and fresh water and companionship. Our domesticated animals are domesticated because thousands of years ago living and working with people was a much better option for survival and reproduction.
Draft teams working in the North American woods, pulling enormous loads of logs, would be sent without a driver from the cutting area to the unloading station, and back. They can't have objected too strongly.
