Coming from a tuned M140i which I owned for 4 years, I bought an OG M2 late last year. It's a bit slower in a straight line, it's noisy, the ride is crashy over bumps, the DCT is jerky at low speeds, but .... on an open twisty undulating country road, wow, it really comes alive and it all makes sense. I love it.
The N55 in the OG M2 is far superior to the standard n55 from the m135i plus it shares the same underpinnings in the chassis as the f series m3, make no mistake this car is great
Those rzn’s are understandable and actually makes u love it more cuz most ppl expect this m2 to feel like a C43 chasis and have no type of noise or squeaks or aggressive pothole bumps
upgrade the transmission firmware to the m2comp one, look on bimmerpostforums. It also changes the handling a bit for the better. 1st to 2nd jerkiness gets fixed with this mod (if you got the og, you need to upgrade the firmware to LCI, the you can do comp the handling/transmission. Costed me 100 bucks, back then my mechanic had no idea about it and now he charges 10x of that. Still, worth it. Don't forget a charge pipe even if you have it stock, OEM CP are plastic sht and break. The car doesn't needs to be tuned at all, is perfect, nonetheless after 8 years of having it, mine has a downpipe/intercooler/chargepipe and stage 2 (not stage 2+) with 420/whp and 550nm of torque. Thinking about an air intake for the sound/better airflow and new exhaust for sound + 5hp haha. I doubt I'll get a bigger turbo and more tuning -maybe just an ohlins suspension system, since you can put it on street/track mode in the shop; street mode is just perfect, a buddy has it and it's night and day between the stock suspension for daily driving. The car is a beast, got it brand new, won't sell it ever and the other day I parked along a g87 M2, the dude was clearly uncomfortable, even when I was telling him his engine is kicks ass, he confessed not liking the design at all and would prefer the f87 looks (maybe a little refreshed) with an s58, rather than the monstrosity BMW created to cater to its biggest market in the East of the world.... OG M2s are gonna be a classic, idk if their prices go way up, I'm keeping mine and when upgrading to the better german brand -there's only one, VW may own the business, but we know they are the benchmark in the industry-, this will still be on the garage.
Research the m2comp handling/transmission firmware upgrade, worth it for jerkiness on 1st to 2nd shifts, better handling feedback and better shifts on sport+. Also, get a chargepipe, N55 - no matter if they are N55b - have a plastic chargepipe that holds well 300hp, not 370hp and the amount of boost the M2 has. They are cheap, get a stainless steel one.

@@BatManHDdeluxe that’s not great. I think we are spoiled here in UK
Hmm and the road tax (VED) at £190 (?) is less than the £210 on a Micra!
Depends on the year. If you buy a 2016 one, sadly it's more because of the weird rule changes on tax in April 17. If you get an LCI one its £190 now which is great :) Crazy that its less than a micra haha
Unfortunately mine was registered before 1 April so it’s higher
@@MDrives
Same
Ours is a late 2016 so tax is just over £300
Still not too bad though especially when compared to R32’s etc at £720 🤢🤯
Ps
Get yourself some comp seats…… by far thenicest upgrade we made to our OG and bagged a bargain pair too at just over £1k 👍
@@simonehayes4911one day I will. Thanks
@@simonehayes4911 damn 1k for the pair what a steal! I've been trying to find some for ages, absolutely the one thing I want to change about my one
Help.. cant decide if I should go M2 or Z4MC
I never drove Z4M so can’t help you with that. Although, it’s a nice dilemma to have.
I’d buy one however there’s only one problem. I don’t have any money for one. I’ll settle with a BMW F900r motorcycle instead.
I bet it will be fun too
It's is a stunner for sure but if i was going to tune a engine I would prefer a closed deck than open deck the car is a Frankenstein made from parts f80 f82 .the car is a m car and it's got n55b30 variant I mean the Mlite have got a better engine than that .if I was going to buy a m. car and open the hood and I found the n55 in there I would feel cheated I mean at least BMW could I put an S engine like f80 f82 or m2cs.
I get your point but this really isn’t something which concerns me personally. I think it sounds great and it works but it is a bit old tech now.
The N55 in this car is closed deck, with forged internals and some upgrades carried over from the S55.
@@defyyourlogic487 the engine in the m2 which is a n55b30to is a semi closed deck the point is that BMW didn't put a s engine in a M car.
How does this compare to m140?
Have a look at the comparison I made BMW M140i vs M2 - how BMW's top hot hatch compares to M equivalent. Long and detailed road test. 4K

M2 competition looks so much better
nicer front but uglier wheels
Nah you can take that attached kidney nonsense. Looks like a pig.
Are you kidding? The Alloys fitted to the M2 Comp are the worst design ever fitted to an M car. The standard M2 alloys were perfect from the outset. The CS gold alloys look 👌
The front I will give you, but nowhere else changed really for the better. The damn udder on the S55 exhaust is horrible, as well as the sound in general from an S55. I literally bought my one because I preferred the sound of the N55. I would steal a pair of comp seats though haha
The M2 comp looks awful from the back because you can see the massive rear exhaust silencer hanging out like a poo that won't come out. 🤮🤮🤮
No way would I buy an F87 now that the G87 is out. The F87 looks very dated now. The G87 looks incredibly aggressive and so much better than the old M2.
I have to totally disagree. I think new m2 looks very odd unless you modify them. But, the looks are very personal and the interior feels two decades apart.
@@MDrives Modified or not, the G87 looks super aggressive. The F87 just looks old now. It didn't age well at all, especially the rear end. Even without the S58, I'd still take the G87 on the looks alone.
@@Japplesnap I think majority of people will disagree with you. I think they aged very well and will become classics in the future.

Said nobody ever 🤣🤡
@@simonehayes4911 Said me. And everyone else who purchased a G87. I sold my F87 for a G87, just like a whole bunch of others. No regrets. The G87 is a superior car in every way.
