    Coming from a tuned M140i which I owned for 4 years, I bought an OG M2 late last year.
    It's a bit slower in a straight line, it's noisy, the ride is crashy over bumps, the DCT is jerky at low speeds, but .... on an open twisty undulating country road, wow, it really comes alive and it all makes sense.
    I love it.

      The N55 in the OG M2 is far superior to the standard n55 from the m135i plus it shares the same underpinnings in the chassis as the f series m3, make no mistake this car is great

      Those rzn’s are understandable and actually makes u love it more cuz most ppl expect this m2 to feel like a C43 chasis and have no type of noise or squeaks or aggressive pothole bumps

      upgrade the transmission firmware to the m2comp one, look on bimmerpostforums. It also changes the handling a bit for the better. 1st to 2nd jerkiness gets fixed with this mod (if you got the og, you need to upgrade the firmware to LCI, the you can do comp the handling/transmission. Costed me 100 bucks, back then my mechanic had no idea about it and now he charges 10x of that. Still, worth it.
      Don't forget a charge pipe even if you have it stock, OEM CP are plastic sht and break. The car doesn't needs to be tuned at all, is perfect, nonetheless after 8 years of having it, mine has a downpipe/intercooler/chargepipe and stage 2 (not stage 2+) with 420/whp and 550nm of torque. Thinking about an air intake for the sound/better airflow and new exhaust for sound + 5hp haha. I doubt I'll get a bigger turbo and more tuning -maybe just an ohlins suspension system, since you can put it on street/track mode in the shop; street mode is just perfect, a buddy has it and it's night and day between the stock suspension for daily driving.
      The car is a beast, got it brand new, won't sell it ever and the other day I parked along a g87 M2, the dude was clearly uncomfortable, even when I was telling him his engine is kicks ass, he confessed not liking the design at all and would prefer the f87 looks (maybe a little refreshed) with an s58, rather than the monstrosity BMW created to cater to its biggest market in the East of the world.... OG M2s are gonna be a classic, idk if their prices go way up, I'm keeping mine and when upgrading to the better german brand -there's only one, VW may own the business, but we know they are the benchmark in the industry-, this will still be on the garage.

      Research the m2comp handling/transmission firmware upgrade, worth it for jerkiness on 1st to 2nd shifts, better handling feedback and better shifts on sport+. Also, get a chargepipe, N55 - no matter if they are N55b - have a plastic chargepipe that holds well 300hp, not 370hp and the amount of boost the M2 has. They are cheap, get a stainless steel one.

      @@beatsandstuff Thanks for that, I was planning on keeping it under BMW warranty though so that kind of ruins my options of modifications/upgrades, I did see the firmware upgrades though and they looked good. Is the charge pipe a DIY fix? Access looks tricky?

    • @beatsandstuff
      @beatsandstuff 6 місяців тому +1

      @@jamessonfield I think you need to know a little bit about carwork to put on the chargepipe. I sent mine to the shop when the oem cp blew out of nowhere at 14,000kms (I got unlucky, it usually lasts 30,000kms). I don't have the space/tools to do it myself living in a metropolis, so I either take it to a racing shop or go to one of my buddies who is a bmw wizard, but lacks a few tools for bigger repairs/tunes.

    I think this applies to your country only, in the rest of Europe good examples are still expensive, ~40/50K, especially manual ones, honestly I’d rather spend more to get an “exotic” with a little bit of years on the shoulders, but that’s probably my case and opinion. I still agree with you tho, for 25K to low ~30K I would absolutely buy one of this.

    Im on my second F87 M2, and I currently have a competition model, i bought one sight unseen but it was near new and ive loved it but there is something to be said about the OG i had prior. The OG is a tremendous value, and that engine note is something special. The s55 can not compete with it, even with a 5k+ exhuast, it doesn't sound as good. Honestly, i think if i keep this M2 long-term, i may have to go single turbo, for sound alone. Or i could buy a really high mileage OG once i get close to paying this one off? So to any buyers out there keep thst in mind the OG is such a good value and gives you most of what the Competition offers, i assumed the competition was better in a massive way and it isnt, i think overall it is the "better" M2 juet based on what you get the tuning potential for the s55 is insane but the N55 is no slouch.

      What a wise advice 👍🏻 I agree with you 100%. Stock vs stock, they are almost the same especially LCI. S55 is a tuneable beast but if like me you’re not planning to increase power, OG it’s a better value for money.

    A shame you didn't go into what problems you had. I have had an OG 2017 pre-LCI with 85,000 miles on it for a year now and I have not enjoyed it one bit.. YET.
    The water pump shat itself. Then I had to overhaul the entire cooling system including all pulleys, hoses, bolts, clamps and ancillaries. The front and rear brake and hub assemblies are rusted out and also need a complete overhaul top to bottom. Damage a driveshaft? That's 500 GBP. Granted, in Japan, I paid 12500 GBP for it drive-away, but have since spent 5000 GBP on parts - most of them I'm doing myself because Japanese workshops r@pe customers on anything Euro.
    Market prices for this car in Japan - at this mileage - are about 14,000 ~ 15,000 GBP but you're going to have to change a LOT of things to get it back up to fresh - and even then, the car has STILL done 80,000 miles.
    Don't think I'll ever do this again and it is the ONLY car - out of hundreds - that has ever given me this many fk'n headaches.

    How does this compare to m140?

      Have a look at the comparison I made BMW M140i vs M2 - how BMW's top hot hatch compares to M equivalent. Long and detailed road test. 4K

      Are you kidding? The Alloys fitted to the M2 Comp are the worst design ever fitted to an M car. The standard M2 alloys were perfect from the outset. The CS gold alloys look 👌

      The front I will give you, but nowhere else changed really for the better. The damn udder on the S55 exhaust is horrible, as well as the sound in general from an S55. I literally bought my one because I preferred the sound of the N55. I would steal a pair of comp seats though haha

      The M2 comp looks awful from the back because you can see the massive rear exhaust silencer hanging out like a poo that won't come out. 🤮🤮🤮

    No way would I buy an F87 now that the G87 is out. The F87 looks very dated now. The G87 looks incredibly aggressive and so much better than the old M2.

    • @MDrives
      @MDrives  6 місяців тому +8

      I have to totally disagree. I think new m2 looks very odd unless you modify them. But, the looks are very personal and the interior feels two decades apart.

      @@MDrives Modified or not, the G87 looks super aggressive. The F87 just looks old now. It didn't age well at all, especially the rear end. Even without the S58, I'd still take the G87 on the looks alone.

      @@Japplesnap I think majority of people will disagree with you. I think they aged very well and will become classics in the future.
