They stay in touch via social media!! I know Simone hosted Melanie from France at her gym in Texas and Melanie says it definitely boosted her confidence. I love the difference now vs even 10 years ago when team mates barely even spoke to each other and now everyone cheers everyone on. I'll also add that regardless of what nation a competitor is representing, if Simone is nearby you can always hear her cheering. A true champion!
Mustafina winning by less than 3 hundredth of a point was so incredible to see. Madison Kocian had a fantastic routine. And the margin of her win was less than the difference between her difficulty and Madison's of 6.8 and 6.7 respectfully.

Aliya the Queen, the most elegant gymnast of this century, she had no equal on that day in 2016, what a pity that she didn’t make it to Tokyo, because the final there was boring without her. With all due respect to Nina, but Aliya is a different level of gymnastics, we will miss the queen.
She has some form breaks, leg separations almost all the time it is more notorious in her pak salto. But the dismount was lovely with no cowboyed legs and that is impressive

I think you are dreaming dude! Aliya is coaching. Bars has moved on and her 2016 routine would struggle to make the final. But, her in bars and connected pak/shap and Tweddle's Tweddle, ezhova, maloney have moved bars to the next level. Both have had a massive influence on UB.

I know the situation is very tough now, but I hope Tokyo Olympics can go on as planned. I don't want to be the person to criticize those who put in the hard work to prepare the games.
Can you imagine the poor athletes who planned their whole life for the Olympic games. Planning routines, trying to peak at just the right time and having it delayed not just one time but for a whole year? Then retraining, trying to plan on repeaking and have it possibly postponed or worse, cancelled permanently? I wouldn't want to be the one to tell them. There's no way most of these gymnasts will be able to hang on physically till 2024 as top athletes in their field.

As security measure, they won’t let foreign public (at first they had planned to not have public at all, but then the situation in the country got much better) in the stadiums and facilities - but japanese people can.

The judges were out to get the Chinese. The fact that Fan Yilin got a lower UB execution score than Raisman... 😬 Also, the judges were a lot harsher to the Chinese and Japanese in terms of artistry deductions when really, they're some of the best. There was definitely some bias going on.

Politics. It's insane how much Kocian's E score was inflated from 2015 to 2016. The US wanted to sweep Rio. *edit*- although Kocian is a lovely gymnast whom I enjoy very much.
I don't think Murakami was underscored, because her first two landings were really low, so bug deductions, and she also fell of her double wolf turn. I agree that Wan Yang was underscored, chinese gymnasts were really underscored this olympics (see Chunsong aa beam and aa final result), and I also think that Tinkler deserved a little more deductions
People always hate on Kocian but her routine is on par with mustafinas. Both do the same routine and both have similar form issues with their toes. Kocian could’ve won in my eyes.
Kocian's routine is a plagiarism of Mustafina's, who would come to innovate with her style and her way of achieving difficulty in 2012, matching her opponents based on E skills. I agree that both have the same problems (although Maddison was always given tenths of an E-note lol) but not that they are on par, that level of grace, fluidity, elegance, difficulty and execution can only be achieved by the queen of the bars; Aliya Mustafina Of Russia, and that is why she was the winner in the eyes of anyone with objectivity.
@@julianalvarezlopera6576 both have pretty identical routines. Overall look is not a deduction. Neither is copying someone else’s routine. Technically their deductions are pretty much the same and they have almost identical routines but aliya was just a bit cleaner on the day.
I love this sport and the fact that the scoring changes every 4 years is both good and bad, it keeps the sport safe etc. but I never fully understand what certain moves are worth, better do some research before Tokyo
