  • If you have back pain, you might have been told "it's all in your head". This type of comment can be disempowering and unhelpful. At the same time, however, your brain and psychology do affect your experience of pain, as promoted by advocates of the "biopsychosocial model".
In this video, Professor Stuart McGill uses a powerful example from his clinical practice to explain his thoughts on this subject.

Somone recently said Stuart was more interested in
Himself looking proud, I think it's enthusiasm that he has and this video proves how much he cares about people. Seems like a great man to me.

Dr. McGill, you are doing a tremendous service to humanity. My father died by suicide in large part because of his unmanageable back pain. I wish I had found you soon enough to help him, but I’m thankful that I can apply your lessons to my own life. Thank you, sir.

Oh my good. I've isthmic spondylolisthesis at L5 with grade 1 L5/s1 disc anterolisthesis and the pain rehab dr. exactly told me recently that my backache isn't real and in my head. 😢
I was like what the hell. Its been 6 months and im going from doc to physiotherapists, nobody is able to explain the source of pain. Its either surgery or the other cult who says its in my head. Medical system sucks here in Australia. Everybody is selling their skill, they aren't compassionate with patient.

Is Back Pain All in Your Head? Goes off into his usually speech he gives in ever video on UA-cam refusing to answer the question and giving praise to his 3 hour assessment which costs over $1500.00. Well, I had your assessment and all that was told to me was to lay down on my stomach on the floor and breath. Thanks for nothing. If you're reading this and what the answer to the original question, read "Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection" by John E. Sarno MD.

Pain sucks but your one example doesn’t outweigh decades of his results and research.

@@Popcorncedarhe wants you to think I’m just one example. There are countless. This is why he refuses to speak of his failures and acts as if he can heal anyone. He didn’t heal anyone. Nature did. Time and not re-injuring. That’s all it is.

You really met him? How was the assessment if you don't mind sharing

@@JJbro-rt5zu no, I saw one of his “master clinicians.” Waisted thousands of dollars just for him to tell me to lay on my stomach multiple times and breath. He couldn’t even identify my pain triggers.

@@JJbro-rt5zuno. I saw one of his “master clinicians”. Waisted thousands of dollars on the McGill Method. It did absolutely nothing for my lower back pain and disc injury.
