    Wow! What do I say? Helsinki is a beautiful community. Their architecture, their idea of calm, silence, and a place to go in the hustle and bustle of life, genius, and their electric streetcars, genius......their classical voices are to die for, and acoustics were excellent, (the sound of angels) and what a job you did Robert. Be proud...Good work! CDH&CDH

    "Gooood Morning!...." 😊 I love the sound of it! I can make it as my morning wake-up alarm sound. 😉 All your travels are amazing! And thank you for the detailed description of every place you'd been to. You had me as a captive audience whenever you describe a place - whether it's a historical fact or your own personal opinion. I also learned what it's like to do RVing, the use of cameras in road trips, and of course, the use of a technical drone.
    I used to do trekking, mountain climbing, kayaking, and diving. But after my car accident, I couldn't do anything of that anymore. One day, I was searching for Amtrak Train Trips when your vlog popped out. When I clicked your vlog, that was the start. I just got hooked on it. And I'm so THANKFUL I found your channel - and of course, I've subscribed. Every time I watch your travels, I feel like I've traveled with you to all the places you'd been. And at the end of the day, I know it's exhausting but always worth the experience.👍 Keep it going for many people like me, and for all the people who'd like to do road trips and/or out-of-country travels but couldn't for many reasons.
    Again, a BIG THANK YOU! and please, keep it going. 😊👍👍👍👍

    13:10 You even zoomed at the WW2 Submarine memorial.. also it’s not that blunt. That’s the backside of the fortress (it’s meant to defend Helsinki from a naval invasion). Cannons, tunnels that seem like infinite mazes and other interesting things were what you missed.

    You talked a lot about the cruise ship being in town, and there being a lot of tourists because of that, but that is pretty much every day in Helsinki, because Helsinki is actually the busiest passenger port in the world. There are 3 main cruise ship terminals, the Katajanokka terminal, which you passed and where you saw M/S Viking Gabriella, the Olympia terminal, which is on the opposite side of the harbor, and Länsiterminaali in Jätkäsaari, Western Helsinki.

    Some historical tidbits:
    Finland was the eastern half of Sweden, referred to as "Österland" from the 1200's until the year 1809, when the Russian empire, having fought centuries of war with Sweden managed to split Sweden in half. Österland then became an autonomous grand duchy called Finland, ruled by the emperor of Russia (that's why he held the separate title "Grand Duke of Finland"). The Russian rule didn't last very long, since the Russians always saw Finland as a part of their old enemy Sweden.
    Finland was left to it's own devices pretty much completely untouched by any Russian legal changes until 1899, at which point the people in Finland had already developed their own nationality, referring to themselves as Finns. When Russia tried to assert more control over the area in the early 1900's, they were met with riots which escalated in the death of the General Governor of Finland. during the first world war, the Russian empire fell and Finland became a sovereign state, slowly but steadily reconnecting back to the Nordic countries and the Scandinavian roots of the Finnish culture.
    That is why you see statues of Russian emperors in Finland, but at the same time have Swedish written everywhere inside the country.
    TL;DR
    Finland was part of the Kingdom of Sweden for 600+ years, then an autonomous part of the Russian empire for 108 years and has been independent for nearly 101 years at the time of writing this.

      @Lowkicksfordayz 4 роки тому +1

      TheMaster1 wrong , Finland was occupied by Sweden , it was never Sweden . Finland is a country of itself , and Finnish people have NO roots from the Nordic countries such as Sweden,Norway,or Denmark . Finnish people have roots with Estonians and Hungarians , but still to this day people truly don’t know for shure where Finns came from In the beginning. Sweden belong to the Germanic tribe, Finland don’t . Swedish people and Finnish people are actually the opposite from each other , Finnish people would even have more in common with Russians . Finland is a pretty new country, and for that short amount of time to establish itself is amazing . The Swedish language in Finland should be removed, Sweden and the Swedish language has nothing to do with Finland , the Finnish language or the Finnish people and culture . For god sakes we are not even from the same tribe .

    • @cinderellaandstepsisters
      @cinderellaandstepsisters 4 роки тому +2

      @@Lowkicksfordayz You are wrong. Russians are opposote to finnish ppl. By the way russian language is an indoeuropian language. The same as swedish, english,germans etc. I have met a lot of hungerians and they are very different to finns.
      There are only language relationship not racial. Finnish ppl are so much nordic type. Quiet, reserved and so on.

    • @Lowkicksfordayz
      @Lowkicksfordayz 4 роки тому

      Snow white and the bad queen you are wrong . Finland is part of the UGRIC tribe , Not the Germanic tribe . UGRIC= Finland , Estonia , Hungary. Germanic = Germany , Sweden , Denmark , Norway and so on and on . Finland have nothing in coming with the west . Russia is nothing like the west , they are SLAVIC . Go back to school kid , this is 7 grade stuff xD

    • @Lowkicksfordayz
      @Lowkicksfordayz 4 роки тому

      Big blue whale Russia is not part of the western tribes such as Germanic , Russian language don’t belong in EU. Remember EU is something created . Russia = Slavic = Poland , Yugo , and so on. Sweden = Germanic tribe = Germany and so on. Finns = UGRIC= Estonians and Hungarians and Finns . Have you been in Russia ? Millions of blonde women and men. I’m happy to teach you about 7 grade history , obviously someone missed it ;)

    • @cinderellaandstepsisters
      @cinderellaandstepsisters 4 роки тому +1

      @@Lowkicksfordayz You go back to school. Slavic languages belong to indoeuropian language group. Racial is different to languagegroup. Omg.
      Get a pair glasses and see what the finns look like. Finland was part of Sweden over 600 years and got the culture and sivilization through it. Take a look at the history book. Get educated. Finland has got much more similarities with other nordic countries than with Russia. Are you mad.

      Hei, anteeksi, että otin sinuun yhteyttä. Tulen ja sanon itselleni, että sinä voisit olla oikea henkilö minulle. Lyhyesti sanottuna nimeni on Monika, amerikkalaista alkuperää ja asun Kalifoniassa. Kärsin vakavasta sairaudesta, joka tuomitsee minut varmasti kuolemaan, se on kurkun syöpä, ja minulla on 500 000 000 euroa, jonka haluaisin lahjoittaa luotettavalle ja rehelliselle henkilölle, jotta hän käyttää sitä hyvin. Olen ranskalaisen punaisen öljyntuottajayrityksen omistaja ja menetin mieheni 6 vuotta sitten, mikä vaikutti minuun paljon, enkä voinut mennä uudelleen naimisiin, ennen kuin meillä ei ollut lapsia. Haluaisin lahjoittaa tämän määrän ennen kuolemaani, jotta päivät lasketaan tämän taudin puutteen vuoksi, jota minulla ei ole ollut parannuskeinoa, mutta Ranskassa rauhoittava aine ei halua tietää, voitko hyötyä tästä lahjoituksesta.

      In June in Helsinki the temperature can vary from 5ºC to 30ºC. It depends how lucky (or unlucky) you are.

      Five deg C would be very unusual though, as would be +30. It might be +5 during the night but even that is a bit chilly for June.
      Tourists can expect the average temperatures in June to be around 14-15 deg C but that's just the average. Daytime temperatures are typically warmer. Summer temperatures (June-August) are usually +/- a few degrees from +20. This summer has been entirely unusual, however, and Finland among many other European countries has experienced a scorching heat wave with temperatures reaching as high as +30C and even slightly above for several weeks on straight. It's now August 18th and the temperature has been around +22 in the south today, and I'm in the archipelago now where it's typically a bit cooler than on the mainland.
      +30 C temperatures were not just limited to the southernmost Finland like Helsinki either, but it was +30 also in Lapland, all the way up to the northernmost Finland some 1200 km north of Helsinki. It's been crazy, but that's climate change for you.
