Absolutely! Even long after his death, he kept inspiring people to become chemists, geographers, physicists, travellers... Incredibly motivating. If the world progressed a great deal in exploring and technology in the late 19th and 20th century, it was partly thanks to him. His books define the phrase "explore the world". He wasn´t a "serious" author like Shakespeare, but just as influential.
I'd bet the people reading Jules Verne's books at the time would have thought going to the center of the Earth was more likely than the Moon. Both at the time where complete fantasy. He got most right. Moon, Leagues under the sea and round the world in 80 days, there's a few others. He didn't think outside the box he was nowhere it.
Now we don't want to do something stupid like solidifying the Earths core ( end of all life scenario ) by cooling it down after a few hundred years of free energy by pumping cold water as far down as possible and getting steam back which will give us electricity. Be the most ironic thing humans have ever done, so lets face it, it's our destiny to do it.
DW, thanks for taking us deep into Earth.. you are our mind, heart, and now eyes ❤❤❤
