Staggering no-one knew anything and can't even remember when pointed to emails that suggested they might. The largest case of group amnesia ever seen.

Not to mention the Jarnail Singh multiverse hypothesis.

      Talking of Jarnail …..!
      Let me summarise his questioning:-
      Jason Beer:
“Good morning Chairman, I hope that you can see and hear me. Good morning Mr Singh.”
“Would you please confirm for committee that you are Jarnail Singh head of criminal law at PO.”
JS: “Well now, I er ..em I had nothing to do with selecting my name, that wasn’t one of my responsibilities or ..em ... one of my areas of expertise. My parents made the final decision on that aspect. I didn’t know the “ins and outs” of the process, I was only in attendance as an observer, the naming was the responsibility of the whole parental team. That was my mother and father and I believe that the ..er ..the grandparents also became involved at some stage…and it was very much a team effort ..er ..as I say that was the responsibility for the parents and their family advisors..and Hugh Flemington and er … possibly Susan Creighton were involved at that time but I wasn’t a decision maker. I left that to the parents and the ..er the team… so to speak. I wasn’t aware at that time about the naming situation … I didn’t have the knowledge or naming experience … er ..I erm really can’t remember being present, I was only involved at a very low level and it became …er em a sort of a very drawn out process. Jarnail, …first they wanted it, then they didn’t want it …it was just their decision …their choice! I wasn’t …I didn’t..er I really can’t recall anything about it. I only became aware that it was Jarnail Singh much later. “
Jason Beer: “Let me put it another way” …..!

Having major bugs in three separate systems can never be described as 'a slightly less confident position.'
To be fair to this gentleman's attitude to risk is as carefree as many or most British managers in the 21st century.

Seriously, who asks a lawyer if a computer system is working properly?

    • @dizwell

Someone who believes the measure of quality of a system is how many court cases it's used to win.

You use a computer you use the software you know there are bugs and patches are use all the time. These managers are liars cruel liars.

You might do, and I certainly do. But board members around 2010? I strongly suspect they just dictated stuff for Secretaries to type out. And were of a mindset that the computer was a tool they expected just to work. I doubt they brought much critical thinking or caution to it. Which is not to excuse their blasé approach, but I do somewhat find it understandable for people of their generation in positions that senior.
Even in 2015, in my experience. IT departments were often thought of as cost centres, not income generators. The teams that make the magic work were usually treated with some contempt and regarded as lining their own pockets for no good reason, even by mere middle managers, let alone board members. There's a reason so much of it was outsourced to India and the like: it's really trivially easy to do, so the cheap foreigners are just as good as the expensive home team. Daft, but prevalent mindset.

I just started following this case, but I don't think any of the managers have faced any criminal charges, and compensation has not been delivered to the victims.

This man seems that when he was in his position he assumed that everyone else was supposed to know what they were doing on a daily basis, instead of keep wishing this and that should have been happening it’s all in hindsight and pathetic.
The only way to communicate with this person is in a sarcastic manner then you seem to get through to eventually.
