The term "journalpaning," as coined by Eric Weinstein, is a concept he uses to critique the media's methods of operating under the guise of objective journalism while, in reality, advancing specific agendas. According to Weinstein, "journalpaning" occurs when journalists strategically use their platforms not merely to report facts but to subtly push narratives or influence public perception. This approach, as he describes, blurs the line between pure journalism and activism, allowing the media to participate in what resembles campaigning or advocacy, yet with the protection and credibility often afforded to journalism.
He did call one side EVIL. That word says it all for me because this is no longer about political parties but about a spiritual war between GOOD vs EVIL.
In Eric Weinstein's analogy, the "rhizome" represents the media as a network of interconnected parts that appear to offer variety but, in reality, operate as a single, unified organism. Like roots in a rhizome system, media outlets may seem independent and diverse on the surface, yet they share underlying connections, agendas, and control points. This structure creates an _illusion of choice_ : audiences feel they have access to varied perspectives, while in truth, the range of ideas presented is limited and centrally influenced. This allows power structures to reinforce specific narratives across multiple platforms, giving the appearance of freedom while subtly shaping public opinion in a cohesive and controlled way.
Better to ask is why is the quality of political leadership has plummeted (for nearly every country), and how can we change our systems to get higher quality people on the ballots. .....Or maybe the quality has generally sucked, given very few exceptions. It's not that good people aren't in politics, it's just that they aren't successful.
Outstanding and brilliant Eric Weinstein. Thank you for your intellectual contribution to this baffling political milieu. A real tonic in a bitterly divided and confusing landscape.
There is NO "coalition" with the Left. Why are you still delusional on this point? They take...then they take...then they take some more. "Salami Tactics" a famous Communist of old used to call it. It's all they do. Why can't we "conserve" a single thing? Why does EVERY SINGLE THING have to be destroyed, demeaned, belittled or broken beyond repair?? We WON'T have a single good thing left if we "coalesce" with the Left.
As European I think that Erics take is the only sensible one. Both partys suck and are not represented by high quality leaders. Why wouldn´t you want to raise that point or even fight for something better?
Hey! Somebody gets it. I was pissed back in '15, there is no mechanism to tell the parties they have not selected a viable candidate. We are failed before the primaries are even over. These parties have no way of producing a leader.
It's not a neutral decision, things can get better incrementally, saying both parties suck is just lazy. Fighting for something better is to work within the reality of the system not to make a claim of moral or intellectual superiority for inaction.
What about Vivek, RFK, Tulsi, Ron Paul, JD Vance, Elon Musk who we already know will have significant policy power? You don't need a good leader, you just need someone who will delegate to those who are.
I'm curious how many others feel this way - but Eric Weinstein and Cenk Uygur are the two leaders that I've learned more about how things have become than any others. I don't agree with everything they say - they would probably NOT agree on a LOT of stuff with each other - but I KNOW they would have a detailed/civil discussion/debate that would be REAL and everyone would LEARN more about what's really going on. I don't think either of them have the answer to an almost impossible problem - but I think they could help us see/assess a politician for who they really are... I hope there are some that would do good if they were free from backlash in their party... if we could have leaders like Eric/Cenk that work to explain the context then we could actually make informed decisions on who we vote for.
Just hearing you talk inspires me to make the most of my faculties. There’s an eloquence in the way you approach every subject. I don’t know what your education was like as a child but I’m curious if it incorporated aspects of the trivium or Socratic discussion. As a former Christian, the idea of universal truth weaving throughout all the sciences as the mind of god has always stuck with me and the way you reflect that naturally as a polymath really reminds me what we are loosing as a dumbed down society. We really need more people like you in positions of power, more importantly though, people with a heart like yours. I really appreciate you man 🙏

Yeah. 320m people more or less and you got this choice? Running hot on heels of biden / trump and clinton / trump. Time to break out of a terrible pattern.
Your analogy completely misses the mark in capturing the actual situation. Also, saying 'too few have the courage to stand up' is incredibly hypocritical.
If you had follow what Lyndon Larouche tried to do in the 80's to "clean" the Democratic Party, you would have learned that the problem dated from long long ago !
Rufo is obviously right that it is non serious to have no preference in this election. The most charitable way to understand that, is apathy. Since Eric is emphatically not apathetic, he is just non serious about not having an opinion.
You didn't pay attention to the interview. He wants to stay out of it now so he can have an opinion after tomorrow (or whenever the damn thing gets decided... I've heard people say it won't be resolved by 20th January). Were he to admit he is pro-Trump like his brother Bret then he would be seen as partisan and his wise words and insights would be disregarded post election. The best outcome is that Kamala is actually a deliberate "tactic of mistake" on the part of Barack Obama. There was time to oust Joe earlier and have a Primary and get some better candidate. They would probably lose because of Bidenomics, etc. however, having the VP advocate for all the same policies that made people hate the Democrats, when those that actually did vote for Joe (not the fake ballots which weren't folded), only makes sense if they intend to purge all the extreme progressive leftists in control of their Party with a deliberate set up for a landslide victory for President Donald John Trump where he only loses California and Virginia. Why do this when it will be Republicans until 2036 is because it will take that long for the economy to be fixed and get healthy and wealthy, and for people to forget as they have short memories, and then bring back the warmongering kleptocrats under Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
@@surfingthechaos point being, it is non serious to be unable to generate an opinion about which is less horrible. That sort of political outlook is for children, or non serious adults, or apathetic adults.
@@surfingthechaos As an outsider I would argue that russiagate, lawfare and censorship have been the greatest escalations and threats to the (even near) future of that country. He did call one side EVIL. That word says it all for me because this is no longer about political parties but about a spiritual war between GOOD vs EVIL.
Great interview! Weinstein is a marvel of intellect, common sense and humanity!
All my support to you Eric!
You're a good man Eric.
Im a trump supporter and i totally respect your criticism, and after thinking about it, you're rite.
One of the best interview I’ve ever heard
Eric you my boy . Love the restaurant analogy
Sensibility in the midst of chaos.
Eric did nail it regarding how both parties need to jettison the hardliners to build a coalition.
Excellent comment, thank you.
What about Vivek, RFK, Tulsi, Ron Paul, JD Vance, Elon Musk who we already know will have significant policy power?
You don't need a good leader, you just need someone who will delegate to those who are.
Because now it's not time for that. Now it time to choose between the two.
I love Eric Weinstein. But he demonstrates, again, that the most intelligent people can also be the dumbest.
I'll pilfer a line from Titanic to celebrate this moment and say "its been 84 years" 😂
I'm curious how many others feel this way - but Eric Weinstein and Cenk Uygur are the two leaders that I've learned more about how things have become than any others.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Cenk may have good intentions. Most socialists did.
I really appreciate you man 🙏
ERIC, i love your insight but please realize the democrat party no longer exists
Ness,
He knows that. He even expressed that.
As Eric said . . . He no longer recognizes them. They are something much different now.
Go listen to this video again.
Eric is an important figure to this country.
😆🤣😂,
No he isn’t.
MAGA is not extreme. We are mainstream.
I feel like Shifu promising to believe in Po just before Oogway drifted away like confetti
No disrespect to either candidate but how are these our only two choices?
Yeah. 320m people more or less and you got this choice? Running hot on heels of biden / trump and clinton / trump. Time to break out of a terrible pattern.
They're not. There's 3 others on the ballot.
First upload since Covid and it’s Prissy Piers? Lol
Well, we know now he is voting MAGA because of Tulsi, RFKjr and JD.
Voting against big pharma take over FDA?
Your analogy completely misses the mark in capturing the actual situation. Also, saying 'too few have the courage to stand up' is incredibly hypocritical.
Alien, I don't understand your comment.
How is "the courage to stand up" hypocritical?
You deserve beter, you are the greatest mind of our time! Thank you for opening my mind to the world❤
you may want to risk a brute to break out….
I’m thinking a lot of folks are in that mindset
Always a pleasure Eric
Eric is light years ahead of the political think tanks. He is a voice in the wilderness.
If you can't pick the lesser evil of the two candidates, you haven't understood the policy differences between them either.....
Hs point was simply this: Evil is Evil, and he's not buying into any of it.
Excellent stuff, growing in power ... 👑 You are opening your own portal here.
Looking at the comments, I don't follow how people can't follow his reasoning and read between the lines here! It's not that complicated.
If you had follow what Lyndon Larouche tried to do in the 80's to "clean" the Democratic Party, you would have learned that the problem dated from long long ago !
Fascinating indeed. Well played.
Love Eric. National treasure.
Eric you stand front and center, not on my watch! A real men. Outstanding!
I love this, i wish I could have seen it sooner because its what I have been feeling.
That's a load of horse shit. I think they are both terrible candidates, and I'm dead serious.
If you remove every other variable, those are enough not to want the current democratic party near power and in fact to strongly rebuke them with a popular mandate for republicans.
YMMV
I think that's right
Good words, Eric.
The fact that he (of all people) can’t choose between these particular candidates, and the people that they’re bringing along, is very concerning.
Fair enough, not submitting to coercion is understandable natural law.
Eric it takes Courage, to Stand Front & Center. You're the Man!
Eric is an intelectual being with no remorse to say what he feels. Good argument can always win without a fight..
Thank you for the philosophical comum sense that we are missing so much!
He’s finally posting again!
