I have the exact same Motorola android phone 4BMP like you do in this video and my phone screen itself is completely cracked and broken but should I just get a new phone again or should I just get a brand new phone screen itself so I don't have to buy a brand new phone. And if I was to get a brand new phone screen itself how would I go about it
Great Job on this video, man. I pulled it up to see what kind of screws those were (damnit gotta buy a torx set). I also hjave a Moto G Power 2021 with a glued in screen and the whole screen came out when I dropped it. I had wondered if the stylus was like that. Glad I clicked your video.
I purchased a screen with frame, so this video did cover what I needed. Also i wanted to take the old broken screen off the old screen just to see how that goes, and of course your video does help me with that. Stylus does not work after reassembly and I do have the rubber orange piece and the white plastic piece as well as the orange tape strip in place. I'm just curious, I could not find any info about how the phone knows its stylus is pulled out. Its baffling. Any clues?
I don't have anything on the 2021 stylus. This one is s the 2020 stylus. But I might find a broken 2021 stylus in the future and do something on it! Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you made this over a year ago and have been wanting to make more videos like it since just don't have the materials (phones) to do so. I want to buy broken newer less popular brands (not iphones) and make videos about repairing those specifically. Might put out an ad locally and see what happens.
Super helpful video, thanks! Everything went well except my front camera is a bit fuzzy. Any ideas what may have happened or what I can do to fix? Thanks!
Maybe check the rear cover and see if you got any smudges or fingerprints on it? To be safe what I would do is just wipe all the lenses and lens cover with a little microfiber towel. That's the only thing I can think of, other than maybe you accidentally scratched the lens. Which would be rare but could happen and in that case there's not much you can do but replace it. But I'd just check for smudges
@@Projectlalo thanks! The actual camera seems to be ok. It's when I put the screen over the camera that the picture gets fuzzy. I wonder if there's just something wrong with the screen itself.
yesssiiirrrr smashed mine like a dumbass, thanks the screw size is T4 by the way the most PITA thing is the battery, probably need to use some sort of solvent to make the tape not sticky vs. trying to pry it once you get under the battery (widest side gap) you can use a credit card after you've lifted it up some, still feels sketch you also have to check that your replacement display has the bevel thing going around it, with the speaker grill, mine didn't so I have a gap around my phone lol I used hot glue to attach the screen to the body/make it flush with the gap yuck but it works, squeeze the screen down against the body then trace hot glue around the gap on the outside edge
You’re vídeo is pretty and detailed. Here I’m trying to fix my phone hopefully it’ll work. Now let me ask you or anyone reading comments here, what is the driver name or size for the screws on the moto g stylus ? I got the replacement on eBay, come with couple of drivers and those junky plastic things to help you pull parts up or apart, like spatula kind. The driver they sent me is smaller/narrower than the screw on the phone so it doesn’t work obviously. I want to but a set but don’t know what to look for. Any help will be really appreciated, thank you guys.
I mentioned it in the video and there's I also have a link to some tool kits in the description if you want to get an idea of what you need to open it up. Unfortunately the tools that come with the replacement screen are useless as they are not the right type or size. :/
My screen was smashed much worse so I gave it a shot. All went very well until I was trying to get that damn battery out. I was moving slowly and carefully, prying slightly on each side, using a hair dryer to heat the other side from time to time to help loosen the glue/tape. The battery was disconnected, but somehow I lit it up like a fire cracker while trying to get it loosened from the double sided clear tape. I had even mentioned to a family member that I had to be careful with the Li-ION battery. Then I went and did that. Bummer. If I had to guess as I was attempting to pry the battery out its end cable touched the board somewhere. If your attempting this just be aware. I should have folded its cable back so it was outside of the case like shown in the video. It's either that or I pierced the battery.
ooff! Sorry to hear that! Unfortunately phone companies like to make it harder and harder every year for people to actually be able to own their devices for long periods of time and they do stuff like glue the battery down like this or stop updating/supporting older phone models. Pretty terrible to purposefully sabotage our ability to diy things. makes mistakes a lot more likely and that is something I will never appreciate from any company.
Next time use Hand sanitizer to remove the glue.. I used to work at a cellphone repair shop with my man and he taught me everything I know .. (well he was my boss of course). prying will just cause damage to the battery and will piss you off lol
I just ordered a new screen from Amazon and it says it's only the new glass not the digitizer so it looks like that is part of f the glass screen or does it separate
Thanks for this repair video! The new touchscreen does not come with the frame bezel which goes between the new TS and frame. Unless, specified in the listing of where you bought the TS. The bezel is glued to the TS. Cheers!
I keep coming back to this comment because I'm not 100% what you mean but. I think I know what you mean. So there is a bit of an "in between" bezel thing on the phone but if you look at where I'm prying on the phone, the screen should come out without the bezel. And the replacement should be the same, no bezel. So it will 100% needs to be glued down when replacing it.
Thank you for this video very helpful! On the original screen there is a vinyl/plastic seal that you have to transfer to new screen, same problem (loose screen)
HI, that was pretty good for a first try. And next time it would be good to see you reapply the tape too. I'm guessing that you used no glue to put it back together? You talk in comments like you HAVE fixed other phones? EDIT, later I saw your link to the tape. Which one did you use 1mm, 2mm or 3mm?? Later, I also read the tape did NOT hold so you had to glue it all back together.
Yes, every phone is different. Pretty much no iPhone screen ever needs glue. It just pops in to place and you tighten two screws at the bottom of the phone to keep in place. The android phones have it glued in or screwed in so I had no ideas going in if I was going to need glue or tape or not. There fore I was unprepared at the time of making the video because I didn’t know I had to glue it until I took it apart. Glue is best, yes. Linked in the description if you are curious.
Thanks for your help! I ripped the fingerprint sensor cable in half when prying off back cover by accident. Oh well! A replacement fingerprint scanner costs practically more than the replacement screen :p (unless anyone has suggestions of how to order or where to order it from?) Part number?
Probably too LATE for you but maybe next time and/or for others to check out. Here is a good place to buy parts. They have the Biometric Scanner for $5.99 SKU:SC98C98447, or $7.99 SKU:SC98C58837
Tip: When its time to remove the Battery, use hand sanitizer .. put it in the creases of the battery and as you lift the battery up keep adding more sanitizer ... it dissolves the stickiness of the glue and you can remove the battery without bending it .. which also causes issues.
Does the back lift away from the phone when the glue is soft or do you have to get in there and wedge it apart because I can't seem to get in there and I've been at it for 20 minutes and it's becoming frustrating 😡🤬
I used a blade to get in there and get started. it honestly took me at least thirty minutes to even get that far. It's hard to get started but once you can get an opening just went a pretty tool in there and keep hearing and slowly working it until it's all removed. It's going to take a long time and it should. You don't want to rush it and break anything. And yes it's very frustrating. Good luck!
@@Projectlalo I actually went and bought a feeler gauge kit and had the back taken apart in about 3 minutes. The blade that comes with the kit is no good. It's not thin enough nor strong enough..
pulled a yellow sticker inside the screen part, how bad is that? 😬 thought its a protecting sticker, and after i glued my phone together, noticed that my old screen still has it on 🤦🏼♀️
Would 90%+ iso loosen the adhesive for the screen once I get a corner started? I know it wont to the point where it will just slide off. But man i'm having the worst time getting it loose. This thing is like steel getting loose lol. Guess I got unlucky, more adhesive than usual
Will replacing the touchscreen digitizer assembly take care of phantom touches, as well as the glass being cracked? My Moto started going seriously haywire with phantom touches, for no apparent reason, which caused me to remove the case and screen protector, which caused the screen to crack when it slipped out of my hand.
So the phantom touch thing might be due to water damage. I've only had that problem with phones either when the screen is already badly cracked or when there's water in the phone. Could also be a motherboard issue. Replacing a part is never a guarantee of repair. The best you can do is make an educated guess and work from there. First I'd make sure there's no moisture present. Then I'd just go ahead and replace the screen since it's already cracked. But if it is a moisture issue and it works fine cracked and you want to save some money you can just keep using it. If you replace the screen and the problem persists. Then the motherboard might be bad. So you'd have to replace or have that fixed if that's a possibility.
@@Projectlalo The screen is fixed, and the b7k glue is drying. I dislodged the battery with a precision screwdriver, and it sparked and started smoking on one tiny spot on the side. I was trying to be as gentle as possible, but nonetheless I managed to penetrate the cheap coating and caused a short. It seems to be functioning normally despite this. Another issue I had: When heating the back cover a second time, I left it too long and the plastic warped. Now I just have to hope the glue is strong enough once it cures to never peel away from the board inside. Another issue that does not necessarily apply elsewhere: There is a gap between the screen and the inside all the way around the edge. At the top, there used to be a little fake speaker grille in the middle. That's just a space now. I'm going to have to buy some silicone or something to fill it in, or else a tiny splash of water would certainly ruin it. The amazon listing for the Eaglewireless brand kit that I bought linked right to this video, if I remember correctly. But yeah, its working. Thank you!!!

I don't know much about tech. Is it really true? i came back without making much of a fuss. They also said to go back if the lines/smudge didn't go away. What should I do? Well first congrats on replacing your own screen. I don't know anything about that phone in particular but I say if there's defects then either the screen is bad or something when's wrong with the installation. I think it's ok to go back to the seller and ask for a replacement or a refund if you know you did everything right. But it's up to you. You know the issue more than anyone just make the best judgement call you can and go from there. Good luck!
I recently got my screen replaced by CPR repair and I'm not impressed with how they put the back cover back on. It's all warped, the back is not smooth it has vertical lines running up the middle third and the edges around the corners are peeling. I already bought it back once, any suggestions??
Yeah the back cover is pretty trash on these. BUT That's no excuse for a repair company to hand your phone back in that condition. I recommend using the glue I listed in the description. It works really well. Just run a tiny bead of glue all around the edge of the phone then around the camera. Use something to clamp it down when you put the cover back on. Be careful what you use as claps you don't want to break the screen again. But I'd for sure clamp the corners down with something since you said there coming up. There will probably be a bit of glue seeping out but that's ok. Just let it cure for a few hours and then you can remove the clamps and clean up the excess glue with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. 👍
I think that one of the reason this phone has had so many screens break is because it is longer than most screens. Hence you need to be XTRA careful with it: buy a case to carry to protect it and NEVER put it in your back pocket!
If you just remove the back plate you should be able to get to it and pretty it off no problem. It's just a plastic cover that is glued on so it's not terribly invasive just follow the beginning of the video and you should be fine.
@@Projectlalo Hey I got out with fingernail clippers. Thank you so much for trying to help me. Lol but If I got it stuck in there and no one's seems to have done this before, it wouldn't be wise for me to take the back off😆.
Not sure about the sharpness. I don't think there's any settings for that. However you can adjust the brightness from the top pull down menu. That might help.
To the person that asked about replacing just the glass of the lcd or the oled was still fine... I removed your comment by accident I'm sorry 😐 Don't think I can undo it. But replacing just the glass is pretty much impossible. I've tried it on other phones and it has never worked for me the screen always ends up damaged and the glass part usually has special film on it that I'm not sure how you could find a replacement for. Hope that helps!
I actually DIDN'T know about this when I made the video so it's really great advice. I didn't learn that trick til way later after watching many other repair videos.
@@Projectlalo yeah it comes in clutch when it's really being tricky. But I'm not gonna lie there is sometimes where I just want to keep the glue that's on there to prevent needing to use anything. But like I said, when it's being tricky you just have to use it to get it off. 😎👍
I did really well until..... removing the battery. I used the point of my pocket knife to pry it up (after a few moments of an alcohol soak). But I punctured the battery and BAM! FIRE! SMOKE! TOTALLY RUINED PHONE! My bad.
Definitely! Be careful not to overheat or bend it too much to avoid bending it out of shape or creasing it. Make sure you get some quality adhesive when putting it back together. I got 3m tape and was not happy with the results. Just take your time. :)
Prices of new screens have gone up a lot recently. It's absurd for phone parts to cost that much - replacing screens is difficult and time consuming and you risk easily damaging delicate Ribbons and losing parts. I see screens for 50 dollars that were half that a few years ago...and they aren't even OEM, and for a three year old phone.

Screen cable could have been disconnected from the drop? I would remove the back cover and see if all the connections are still good. Other than that not sure. If there's a local phone repair shop near you, that could be a good option.
Not sure what would cause that except maybe the screen you received was not the correct one that would be compatible with the stylus. When I got mine I had no issues.
@@metrotcb9560 YES! So if you go to the 12:40 mark on the video you’ll see that the phone is off camera for a few seconds and I explain that I’m feeding the screens ribbon wire through a slot that goes to the back of the phone. So you DO actually have to remove the back cover as well as the battery to perform this repair because the screens ribbon wire connects to the board in the back of the phone. Which is why this is one of the most tedious and annoying screen repairs I’ve ever done. But it was well worth the trouble.
^%#$!!!!! That glue on the bottom of the battery is a real problem. I wound up puncturing the battery, it expanded and blew smoke everywhere. Not cool!
Yeah brother, you have to be careful, real careful when trying these things out, especially if it's a first time thing. DIY projects always come with risk so do you own research and be thurough about it before testing in to something. Testing in to stuff is my usual approach but I have a natural knack for this stuff and I always accept the risk that comes with doing things on your own. This is why people pay repair shops to fix stuff for them. Nothing like the freedom of knowing you have that choice though!
Yeah well don't do what i did the damn battery blew up and now I got a burn spot in my carpet trying from putting the fire out. Just fuckin great now I'm out of 40$ for the replacement and a damn 200$ pos phone. Save the trouble and just get a new phone fuck this shit.

It was helpful. You seem pretty nervous tho and tongue twisted. Not trying to me a jerk or mean and ignorant but maybe next time just write down the steps in your videos frame by frame. Maybe that will help. And it's only because you seem nervous speaking is why I'm saying that. Like I said I'm not trying to be a jerk because you did good for your first time and I understood what you did and said. But maybe that would help. And just use your hands to speak.
I promise any DIY project is never as impossible as it may seem. Though I understand that this CAN be a very challenging repair for someone who has never attempted any kind of repair before. Keep in mind, this was the first time I ever attempted this specific repair on this specific phone, and also, try everything at your own risk.

@@kyle_mk17 nice! I'm glad it worked out!
I ended up breaking the ribben cable for the fingerprint sensor 😢 lol good video doe helped me out alot with my repair everything else worked thanks. Next I will be repairing the fingerprint sensor 😂
I bought one of the screen replacement, works great
Just did my replacement on my moto g ,your video help me a lot thanks 👍
I have the exact same Motorola android phone 4BMP like you do in this video and my phone screen itself is completely cracked and broken but should I just get a new phone again or should I just get a brand new phone screen itself so I don't have to buy a brand new phone. And if I was to get a brand new phone screen itself how would I go about it
Thanks for the video and link, the new screen is amazing, although I didn't replace it myself
Any clues?
no clue, probably some kind of sensor in there.
You should post a link for the one you bought for the 2021 stylus. I'm struggling to find it
I don't have anything on the 2021 stylus. This one is s the 2020 stylus. But I might find a broken 2021 stylus in the future and do something on it! Thanks for the feedback!
@@Projectlalo yeah I figured that out once I got to the end of the video 🤣
Thanks for this video all the other ones I seen people would have sound but wouldn't say what they are doing or anything
@@katies.3462 Yeah, check to see if the spot on the screen where the camera cut out is needs a clean. You might have gotten a smudge on the inside.

this was so dang helpful! thank you!!!
yesssiiirrrr smashed mine like a dumbass, thanks
the screw size is T4 by the way
the most PITA thing is the battery, probably need to use some sort of solvent to make the tape not sticky vs. trying to pry it
once you get under the battery (widest side gap) you can use a credit card after you've lifted it up some, still feels sketch
you also have to check that your replacement display has the bevel thing going around it, with the speaker grill, mine didn't so I have a gap around my phone lol
I used hot glue to attach the screen to the body/make it flush with the gap yuck but it works, squeeze the screen down against the body then trace hot glue around the gap on the outside edge
Thanx for your video, so it's a T6 or T3 torx screwdriver? Thank you again in advance.
I used a T3. I wrote it on the screen as a correction.
THANK YOU for this video Sir !!!
When buying the replacement screen it ask buy with black frame or no frame
Alcohol is what makes that work, so rubbing alcohol works too.
Thanks for taking the time to add a more detail, I feel ready to open my phone (1st real attempt in the hopes I can put it back together . . .
T3 o T6?
Okay so what if you got all the screws out & its still resisting on the side the camera is on?
well done. I so appreciate this video.
thank you! Glad it helped!
How long does it take for the back to be loose from the phone I've been at it for 20 minutes and it's still not loose and I have a 700 degree heat gun
@@jorgepizarro3327 yeah the only good part that comes with the kit is literally the screen the screw drivers are garbage, the tools, same.
pulled a yellow sticker inside the screen part, how bad is that? 😬 thought its a protecting sticker, and after i glued my phone together, noticed that my old screen still has it on 🤦🏼♀️
I say as long as the Screen is working properly then there’s nothing to worry about. 😅
Would 90%+ iso loosen the adhesive for the screen once I get a corner started? I know it wont to the point where it will just slide off. But man i'm having the worst time getting it loose. This thing is like steel getting loose lol. Guess I got unlucky, more adhesive than usual
Could work. With a try if you're having a hard time. Also make sure you're paying from the right crease. That's all I can think of.
@@Projectlalo Well, I'm about to try it. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the response.
Hey do have a link were and what you need for this

my moto g stylus 5G model screen is cracked, how do i get the compatible screen replacement?
Was it a T6, or T3 screwdriver that you used? (Verbally you say T6, but you printed T3 on the screen). Thank you so much for the encouragement!

i replaced my screen(glass over the display) today and suddenly there were a few horizontal black lines (one was more like a smudge) on my screen. They said the lines will disappear in 4-5 days. I don't know much about tech. Is it really true? i came back without making much of a fuss. They also said to go back if the lines/smudge didn't go away. What should I do? Phone model is redmi note 5A prime. I would appreciate it very much if someone could answer.
Good luck!
@@Projectlalo thanks a lot
I recently got my screen replaced by CPR repair and I'm not impressed with how they put the back cover back on. It's all warped, the back is not smooth it has vertical lines running up the middle third and the edges around the corners are peeling. I already bought it back once, any suggestions??
Yeah the back cover is pretty trash on these.
BUT
That's no excuse for a repair company to hand your phone back in that condition.
@@Projectlalo Thank you!! I wonder why there are so many ridges on it. Maybe they were too rough when peeling it off.
@@marceline8488 maybe, it's stick on there pretty well from factory.
Which are the EDL points?
not sure what you mean?
I think that one of the reason this phone has had so many screens break is because it is longer than most screens. Hence you need to be XTRA careful with it: buy a case to carry to protect it and NEVER put it in your back pocket!
Yup I use dickies and put in the phone pocket I broke mine by squatting at work and the screen and touch sensor all over the place
Hey DO YOU KNOW HOW to Remove a STUCK STYLUS PEN MOTO G STYLUS 2021?
If you just remove the back plate you should be able to get to it and pretty it off no problem. It's just a plastic cover that is glued on so it's not terribly invasive just follow the beginning of the video and you should be fine.
@@Projectlalo Hey I got out with fingernail clippers. Thank you so much for trying to help me. Lol but If I got it stuck in there and no one's seems to have done this before, it wouldn't be wise for me to take the back off😆.
Guess I have to do it myself. I found a kit to replace my cracked screen at Amazon for $36-40 dollars while my local repair places charge $171-180.
I just had mine replaced and the sharpness has seemed to increase. Is there a setting to fix?
Not sure about the sharpness. I don't think there's any settings for that. However you can adjust the brightness from the top pull down menu. That might help.

Not sure how I would make that work 😅
Why was there no screen glue included with the screen??
🤷🏻♂️don’t know
To the person that asked about replacing just the glass of the lcd or the oled was still fine...
Use some 99% alchohol man, I'm sure you know about that but it really helps so much when u heat up the phone to get rid of that strong glue.

My bad.
Oof! Sorry to hear that! Yes, you have to be really careful about the battery!
What's up in your description????? How about some punctuation with that run on paragraph!
yes master.
Getting that plastic hot is kinda scary!
I see screens for 50 dollars that were half that a few years ago...and they aren't even OEM, and for a three year old phone.
yes this video is two years old. That is an unfortunate turn of events.
Just my luck the Screen is out of Stock.😭

Screen cable could have been disconnected from the drop? I would remove the back cover and see if all the connections are still good. Other than that not sure.
If there's a local phone repair shop near you, that could be a good option.
I just got mines fixed but now my stylus doesmt work smh
Not sure what would cause that except maybe the screen you received was not the correct one that would be compatible with the stylus. When I got mine I had no issues.
Why did he take off the back and not just the front screen, look like all you need is take the front off
@@metrotcb9560 YES!

And maybe you should stick to just speaking, as clearly you cannot type coherent English…. not trying to me a jerk or mean and ignorant…. just saying.
This does not look easy
I promise any DIY project is never as impossible as it may seem. Though I understand that this CAN be a very challenging repair for someone who has never attempted any kind of repair before. Keep in mind, this was the first time I ever attempted this specific repair on this specific phone, and also, try everything at your own risk.
