    Thanks for telling what the ram rod holder was. I found one in a French homesite and never knew what it was. But I also found other musket brass there including a butt plate. Your finds are EPIC

    The Maria Theresa thaler is one of the most recognizable coins of nusimatics. First minted 1780 and was minted with this date for many years to come.

    Eric, thanks for showing all your incredible finds. I recently stumbled on a site and pulled two Jesuit rings, some musket pieces and a French flip knife blade. Just curious how you clean your finds to look so good in your wrap up? Any chance you would do a video on that? Take care and good hunting!

    • @Eric_Detectorist
      @Eric_Detectorist  5 місяців тому

      That’s a good idea. Perhaps this winter when I’m stuck inside. Congrats on the amazing finds. For the Jesuit rings I soak them in soapy water overnight. Then lightly brush away any remaining dirt. From there I soak them in baby oil for 24hrs. Then dry them and seal them in renaissance wax.

      @Eric_Detectorist  5 місяців тому

      For the iron blades I use a variety of techniques depending on their condition. Usually I sand or grind off the heavy rust then soak them in evaporust for 24hrs, Dry and seal in wax

    • @Eric_Detectorist
      @Eric_Detectorist  5 місяців тому +1

      I start by researching archeological references or historic research maps. I will use historic aerials and lidar to help find virgin landscapes then I ask permission if it’s not public land. A lot is also trial and error or luck.

    Just curious where you look up your maker marks on your iron knife blades you find?

    • @Eric_Detectorist
      @Eric_Detectorist  5 місяців тому

      There are a few published books and pdf articles that are based on lead prints of the marks from the smiths in St. Etienne France.

    • @JoshKreller-qo7qe
      @JoshKreller-qo7qe 5 місяців тому

      Thanks for the tips. I’ve been looking for the mark I have with no luck. You might know it with all the cool stuff you find. I have a flip knife blade that I cleaned with the evaporust you suggested. AMAZING and thank you for that tip! I can now read the mark. It’s stamped with:
      V
      I B
      S
      Any chance you’ve identified this mark before?

    • @Eric_Detectorist
      @Eric_Detectorist  3 місяці тому

      That Mark is French. It is the mark of Antoine Benoist, made in St. Etienne France circa 1737-1756.

      I find a quite a few broken tomahawks. In my experience many of them were repurposed into other tools, such as a hide scraper or wedge. Some were just abandoned though.
