i remember getting turned on by Hemispheres and then i went to the concert ( my second ever concert !) and they played Hemispheres , 2112 and Xanadu and there was no turning back !
That must have been hard for Dave Grohl to carry the weight that Neil Peart bore and honoring the surviving members of Rush playing this song of another band who lost their drummer. And Grohl just lost his mother on top of that.......My heart and hat is off to him......Respect!
I've seen this before and I still get teary-eyed. RIP Neil Peart and God Bless Alex and Geddy. I believe I was 10 years old when my brother came in with 2112 then going to their concert in 1976 Live at Comiskey Park Chicago, Illinois. My brother brought some cigarettes that had me enjoying the concert. I remember asking my brother for some Chicago Dogs and soda before we left because for some reason I was really hungry. He did with the understanding that I not say anything about the smoking cigarettes.
They should have looked up my old band extraordinaire drummer ( KENNY SAVAGE). He could play anything buy RUSH and to top it off, he could sing like GEDDY!!
You young people should consider yourselves fortunate that you are here to hear these legends because they are dying breed unfortunately. The trash that is being produced now will not be cherished in the years to come. It will be lost and never spoken of with due process. But this music, this will live eternal.
Cool that they did this. Amazing how even tho Dave is an incredible drummer and can cop most anyone's style when he wants. You can clearly hear how much is really "missing" from these drum parts, when performed by someone other than Neil. Truly irreplaceable.......
Different style, different instrument- no ; drums don’t = drums. Totally different in Damn near every aspect. But yeah- Neil was FARRRR superior as a drummer in every aspect.
i just love classic rock! we were lucky to grow up in those years!! I'm 60 in two weeks i can truly say i seen & heard a lot...................so many shoes that will never be filled..................................................................!!! bet their having great times up there too.
a good number of Taylor's greatest musical influences came together to commemorate his life on a single evening. I don't think there can be anything more flattering to a life lived.
Oh, my, god. David Grohl did so well. It did bring tears to my eyes. I first saw 2112 in 1975. And I so enjoy David Growl. And of course I so miss Neil Peart. The fact that David had to keep up with their energy is amazing.
Everyone has known the greatness of Geddy and Neil. More recently, people realize that Alex is one of the best live guitarists ever! When I say one of, I mean one of the top 2 ever!
every time I see anything with these guys I go practice. and then practice some more. and then some more. until I can finally play the intro correctly.... :) Such talents! Dave does a great job sitting in too - everyone was bang on. perfect reason for a reunion
Grew up in Northern Ohio, they were popular in Cleveland thanks to WMMS " The Buzzard". They blew my 17 year old mind away with their first album. To this day still my favorite!
Totally awesomeness all the way around. The loss they have all endured is a credit to their love and memories to continue. Maybe a 3 hour gig is not in the future for the Boys from Toronto as they creep up there in years, but hopefully they can continue these cameos to thrill us occasionally. Hats off gentlemen!
Don't care for foo fighters, won't listen to Nirvana, but I have tremendous love and respect for Mr. Grohl. From Muppets, to Rush, to his own Bands. Dude runs everything.
This performance gave me chills. These 3 musician's fit together like a glove. Neil was an amazing drummer but Dave fits right in. I didn't see Taylor sit in with Rush but I can imagine that it was amazing also. Taylor and Neil "Rest in Peace". I bet you were both sitting behind your drum kit up there smiling down. You both will be forever missed.
Dave Grohl grew up learning and playing all the early Rush hit, he’s more than just ok on drums, and he’s been a professional musician for more than 30 years. Don’t expect him to play ‘O Baterista’ but he’s the perfect fit.
Awesome, RIP Neil I know you were there in spirit, knowing that Taylor and Dave both are (were) huge Rush fans jamming to 2112 in there teenage wanna be rock stars years!
I love, love, love David Ghrol. He's a seemingly fantastic person who portrays the essence of musicianship and a pure love of craft. That being said, all this did was remind me of how much the world lost with the passing of Niel Peart. Thankfully, Dave made the drum licks his own and didn't try to emulate Niel's style - rather, he did the Grohl and beat the hell out of the kit
@@toddlarowe It all ties together now that I remember that Taylor Hawkins was on the stage with Dave Grohl when they inducted Rush into the hall of fame.
I didn't pick up on that at first, but yes of course! which is an interesting and thoughtful choice. Have been a fan for some decades, and always wished I knew more about that guy but there was so little information about the early years. I liked that first record as much as any band's first record and seeing Grohl here just reminds that there's no one perfect way to play the drums. If everyone was as technically great as Neil Peart, rock as a genre wouldn't be as great.
Peart was pure precision, no doubt. That's what you want in a drummer. You don't want them going off the rails. Grohl held to the original sound. But he did show more emotion. Who wouldn't playing for an iconic band like Rush? Peart was not about accolades. He was about getting it right. Every Time.
Neil Peart was the head Navy Seal in Vietnam. Deep undercover with Mister Rogers, Bob Ross, John Denver, Tiny Tim, Hank Jr, Willie Nelson, Johnny Carson, Kaptain Kangaroo, Slim Whitman, Paul Simon, Andy Gibb, Waylon Jennings, Ted Nugent, Gene Simmons, Elton John, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Clint Eastwood. Elvis was on their team until the drugs got him. We lost the war in Vietnam because of Elvis` weight problem. Just disgusting! Andy Gibb and John Denver would still be alive if not for Elvis! That`s what`s so sad!
I'm glad they are doing this. It will NEVER be the same, that magic is/was its own. But maybe it doesn't have to be. Admit it. These guys need to play. They want to. Let them. Enjoy it!
I grew up in the ghetto in Boston raised on r&b and my younger cousins, played some Rush and I was like what the heck is that music? And the next thing I know I was preaching the sermon of a group called Rush with the greatest drummer of all time Neil Pert!!! I cried when he went to sleep. I never could get dad to get on board but it’s all good. One of , if not the greatest bands ever!!!
I am very conflicted. To see Geddy and Alex touring again is fantastic! Dave Grohl is a very good drummer. However, NO ONE will ever hold a candle to the Late, Great Neal Peart. The greatest rock drummer of ALL time (IMHO). R.I.P. Neal.
True, but I would rather hear Alex and Geddy play with Dave Grohl than not hear them play at all because it was a very good performance. RIP Professor💔
Awesome! I'm sure that your making Neil proud. Great to see Geddy and Alex still going at it and sounding great. LED Z may be gone but we still have these guys.
Great performance!! I'll bet Dave had some surreal moments while playing with these 2 legends...also an even deeper appreciation of Neil's drumming, not knocking Dave's performance, but this was a simplified version of the drums compared to Neil's...
God dang that video made me happy. Glad an icon can do his best to make a deity sound awesome after he's gone. Dave Grohl is probably the greatest man that has ever appreciated the masters that influenced him.
this is tribute to the loss of both bands drummers. and Dave back there pounding his fucking heart out on the drums like his life depends on it! and who the fuck knows maybe it does! he isn't trying to make it look easy! he is giving it every fucking thing he's got! THAT is how music SHOULD be played!
Absolutely Awesome performance. Good to see Rush perform. I hope they will continue on with a replacement drummer.. Dave is absolutely an amazing musician, love watching him perform.

2 missing drummers, both special in their own way. RIP Neil, you are still missed. RIP Taylor, I am still unable to process it. All being said, Dave had a workout playing Neil's part on Working man. Still a great drummer.

Imagine if you were young and you discovered the music of Rush from this night. What a fantastic journey lies ahead.
Great sentiment! I still remember the first Rush song I heard when I was young. Tom Sawyer, circa 1982. What a ride it’s been since then…
Well put. Says this fan since early 80s. 1st show ottawa civic center 1984
2112 for me… what a ride
I was a dumb kid, and didn’t appreciate Rush as a kid, but I’m sure glad I got my musical mind together and realize what a force they are.
i remember getting turned on by Hemispheres and then i went to the concert ( my second ever concert !) and they played Hemispheres , 2112 and Xanadu and there was no turning back !
So great to see Geddy and Alex on stage! Not to mention Dave at the drum set. Great tribute to Taylor and Neil!
Damn, how I miss Rush! Great tribute to passionate and gifted drummers. Happy to see the guys jam, again.

I was thinking the same thing. It’s good but it ain’t Neil …
There will never be another Professor Shalom Neil Peart
True, but Grohl did strike a pretty nice balance between John Rutsey & Neil Peart on Working Man.
Is Dave tom tom heavy or is Neil just not? There’s so much tom in this version.
Different style, different instrument- no ; drums don’t = drums. Totally different in Damn near every aspect.
