- Staking A Hydrangea Standard - Here's A Better Method. In this video I wanted to share the process that I used to stake a hydrangea standard that was in desperate need of some additional support. The stake and straps that are used are detailed along with the process of staking that is safe and healthy for the tree so we don’t introduce scaring or disease.

I'd trim the heavy side also, which would also help it in not getting so heavy and wanting to lean to that side as much

Lol! Nope born in Missouri and live in Southern Illinois.
We put a rigid plastic mesh tree guard around the bottom of our standard lilac and surrounded it with three large rocks. It survived the Iowa derecho in August of 2020 in its second year - it was blowing downward at a 45-degree angle! Would this work on a standard hydrangea? (I wish we could attach a photo.)
