Hi Kelly love your channel. Yes it’s truly simple to tree form most any shrub that are woody & grow tall. I’ve tree formed azaleas, abelia & Rhodies. I’m planning on tree forming my Camilla & dapple willow next.
Hey Judy 👋 Yep super simple . I usually wait to do major pruning around late winter early spring and most of my hydrangeas I never even prune and they give me beautiful flowers every year 🌸
@@KellyLehman Thanks, I enjoy your videos. I love hydrangeas. They need lots of shade and water here so I can't grow them here but I also live in Arlington, VA and I miss them.
Kelly, I am curious to know what type of hydrangea is appropriate for doing this. I have some that bloom on new wood (that look much like the one you trimmed here). I also have various colored hydrangeas that I learned (from you) last year hat bloom on old wood. If this is like an Annabelle that blooms on new wood, do you then go back and trim the top too? Thanks!
Hi Linda , I usually do this to my Limelight hydrangeas since they get so tall . The same concept will work on the Annabelle’s and colorful Mophead a you have but they are shorter so the tree effect may not be as obvious .
Hi Kelly, id like to place a couple of the hydrangea trees in front of my home along the house with boxwoods in front of them, so a question, can I prune them to keep them around 6 feet tall and 4-5 foot round? Or is there a variety that I can choose to use like that? Thanks for any help.. I'm in NJ down in Tom's River btw so hi neighbor, be well!
Hi Kelly, I trimmed my hydrangea bush last year and I must've done something wrong because the Bush is leaning over to one side and I want it to look like a tree is it ok to cut off the bottom stems in the fall?
