Scotty G behind the wheel took flight in qualifying pulling all four tires of the ground. Racing on a 275 drag radial with out wheelie bars can be a tough challenge but the New York based team took it with ease.

Well turbo cars can have multiple forms of antilag that create fire, not necessarily always due to rich environment on exhaust stroke. Could be ignition timing manipulation, or even a lean environment where it burns so slow it can't combust before exhaust stroke.

Why they don't point the exhaust tip to the rear ?
They are slowing them down.
michaelovitch because if the exhaust goes all the way to the rear it is heavier because of more metal so straight pipe out the side is lighter and more efficient
i thought to pointing to the rear only,not having a pipe all the way to the end of the car.
michaelovitch yeah driftz you missed his question. he's asking why the exhaust tip is pointed up. My only guess, is so the crew can see when he hits the nitrous as the flames shoot up making it more visible down the track. but thats just a guess
because at these power levels, an enormous amount of energy is exiting the exhaust. this has been proven time and time again to add downforce in the form of thrust. i've seen it on a chassis dyno with a pair of scales under the front tire. it's a tremendous amount of downforce.
I don't think they use that "thrust",you clearly can see cars with the exhaust pointing straight on the sides trough the fender.
May seem like a noob question (have always been into cars and built my integra) but never knew a whole lot about drag racing, so why do they do the 4-5 second nitrous purge before the run? Maybe make sure the spray isn't too hot, checking for air bubbles?

fuzzy wuzzy too get the bottle pressure down. if the bottle pressure is too high, the nitrous won't atomize correctly.
Chris Smith huh, i thought that wanted high bottle pressuse thats why they but the bottle heaters on there
fuzzy wuzzy they do want high bottle pressure. somewhere around 950 psi but with the heaters on, while doing the burn out and clearing the motor out, the pressure may go up to 1000-1050 psi. so they purge right before the pass to get it back down. also they purge it to clean out the lines and solenoids.
