Your hair is my hair goals!!! It's healthy and long and absolutely gorgeous. I also have three hair textures just like you (if not more) in different areas, so it helps to see content like this. THANK YOU!

I don't even own a blow dryer so I always stretch my hair with braiding. What really stretches my hair is when I brush it before braiding but I'm still have so much to learn about my confusing hair

I have found decanting into a bottle with a pointed end makes applying my shampoo to the scalp. Thanks for the tip to spray a bit of water/liquid first, I will try that next wash day!

I am definitely putting an applicator bottle on my next bulk Amazon list. I Think it will work out much better, ill be able to see the shampoo come out of the bottle lol.

Its good to take a hint from the Chadian women, they have luciously LONGGG thick hair (naturally type 4 but they slick it down and stretch it without heat). They add oils and butters (as well as strengthening clays) to their hair when damp, then jumbo BRAID it taut (not tight at the root but the braids itself are tight to stretch it), and they keep it like this since Chad has also high humidity and HEAT. I have tried it (with my MUCH shorter hair) and it really does silken the hair, so maybe it'll be too little texture for your liking? but its worth a try.

      Hello VBOO!
Yes, I am aware of the Chadian women and their process.
I have tweaked a few things.
I don't like braids on myself lol they make me feel bald lol, I will stick with twists.

Hi Mya! Thank you for showing your wash regimen, tension method and products in creating the larger twists. I love these twists by the way. They are healthy and full of volume. Your demonstration of the tension method was smooth and easy and I believe less damaging than using a brush (with balls at the end) or a comb attachment. (What temp did you use?) I understand your concern for desiring to decrease the number of times blow drying is used as the stretching method. Maybe you should consider only doing it if you plan to get a trim. Bantu knots or braiding are also good ways to stretch. Appreciate you sharing! 🙂

Yes braiding definitely stretches the hair more than twisting, just takes a lil longer to braid & unbraid while twisting is faster. I'll make sure to tune in & see what you end up substituting your blow dryer for in the next one!

      Hello Willy. Thank you
I will try braiding next and then banding. The African threading lol may have to wait.

African threading is the best way to stretch your hair. It's also the easiest to install and take down plus the fastest.

Have you ever seen wave formers? There are so many videos here on YT. It’s a heatless method to stretch but it does look heavy. It seems the hair dries quickly and the results are pretty good for stretching. I don’t really like the pattern for a style but I like how you could use them for heatless drying/stretching. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hello Nat81! I have not tried the wave formers I have seen some of the videos though. I agree with you , I don’t really like the wave look or the waves that the products produces.

Mya, you make everything look so easy. You have this technique down to a science. I commend you on doing your own hair. It is beautiful. I have shown your picture to my Mother and a few of co-workers. Yes, our hair grows long as well. My goal is to get my hair waist length. Thanks for your time & your informative tips.

I use the Trader Joe’s tea tree tingling shampoo and that sensation on that scalp feels amazing 😇 I know this might be a dumb question (since I can see your hair is clearly healthy) but with using the same parts, have you had any issues or concerns with traction alopecia?
The banding method is much easier than the threading method and works pretty well. I’m 4b and 4c so stretching can be a little more “difficult” without heat

    • @KlassicallyKept
      @KlassicallyKept  Рік тому +6

      Hello Aubrey!
For the traction alopecia, no I haven't had that issue. I do change he parts every other wash. It's funny you ask that I was actually watching a video about this the other day, it too was talking about changing up your parts.
I am going to try braids first and then banding. The African threading will be last lol

Hi Mya! When in the shower and rinsing the shampoo do you take out each twist and then re-twist it ? Then apply conditioner to each one and then re-twist? And then rinse the conditioner out without taking the twists down?
I’m trying to understand how you keep them so neat. Parting is a nightmare to me and if I can figure out how you are able to do this, this will be my new go-to routine. Thank you!

My next mini twist install i want to try to band my hair and sit under the drier as a means of no tension. I currently rollerset my hair rather than blow dry for when i flat iron. My goal this year is as little direct heat as possible…but i also want stretched hair all year.

Kudos to you Mya for expertly handling all that hair. Your routine works, at least for you. I would love to see the banding or threading video. I can see the banding may be a little easier, but I'm wondering how can you thread so much hair by yourself? Just make sure you have enough thread on hand as you will need a lot. Maybe find someone who can do the threading locally.

      Hey Jennifer !
Yes I will definitely show how else I stretch. First I want to try braiding and then I will try banding. The African hair threading might be a lost cause, you know I only touch my hair ...... well Lorna does too, but she just trims😂

how often do you use heat on your hair per week? every time you wash? how often do you wash your hair per week?

    • @KlassicallyKept
      @KlassicallyKept  6 місяців тому +3

      Hello.
I wash my hair every 2 weeks.
For 2023 I experimented with different ways to stretched my hair, prior to I was wearing mini twists. This included: tension method, braiding, and banding. I liked the tension method best and then banding; however, I do not want to use heat every time I am looking to stretch my hair.
I will probably do half and half, half mini twists and half stretch with the banding method.

      Hello Xavier!
Stretching your hair is not a must and/mandatory.
If you feel your hair thrives while in its natural curly state stick with that! And I do want to point out that shrinkage is healthy!
Many naturals find benefits in stretching their hair, which includes:
      1. Single strand knots/fairy knots
      a. Single stand knots can be the bain of existence for many naturals. If you are not sure what those are, they are the little tiny black/brown balls that typically show up at the ends of your hair. Essentially your hair has curled on itself. To combat this, naturals will stretched their hair or placed place rollers at the ends of their hair. For me I noticed that when I keep my hair stretched the number of single strand knots is significantly reduced. The only way to get rid of single strand knots is to cut them out which can lead the length loss, should that be one of your goals.
      2. Tangles
      a. Tangles can lead to breakage, and we want to make sure we are retaining all of our length. Many naturals will stretch their hair to avoid tangles. Also when your hair is stretched naturals can finger detangle.
      3. More manageable
      a. Some naturals say they can care better for their hair in a stretched stated and it is easier to manage.
      4. Better moisture retention - sebum can reach your ends
      a. Look up Green Beauty, she has a few videos on hair sebum and scooping. Your scalp produces sebum naturally. When your hair is stretched the sebum can move down your hair shaft easier than when it is in its curly state and can help coat and protect the hair.
      5. Monitor health of your ends /Better length retention
      a. Naturals who keep their hair stretched are able to monitor their ends better. If they need a trim or dusting they can see that right away!
