    What I learned is that my hair likes oils. There were a lot of influencers that I follow saying you don’t need to add additional oils to your hair, as there are so many oils in the products that we use. However, I found this didn’t work as well for me. So I have gone back to using oils. Drying may hair even 80% with the hooded dryer tends to dry my hair out faster. Air drying works better (another thing many said you shouldn’t do). Goals for 2024 are longer, thicker, healthier hair. I plan to be consistent with my scalp massages, I have discontinued using my elastic bands, and I am keeping my ends tucked away (something I learned from you). I have also recommitted to drinking my water every day. Wish me luck!

      Hello Kris!
      I don't know where this no oils concept is coming from, oils works for me; however, at this point we all know what works for you may not work for someone else and what works for someone else may not work for you.
      The no airing drying your hair idea is wild to me and at this point I want to have a conversation with a dermatologist and trichologist because women have been air drying their hair since the beginning of time.
      I love your goals for 2024 and wish you all the success!

    *☆ Things I learned about my hair in 2023:*
    - My hair thrives more being washed weekly, instead of every 2 weeks, in hot climate. In winter is the opposite.
    - My scalp is a combination of light dandruff (caused by oiliness) in some areas and just dry in others. Weekly tea tree oil and DIY moisturizing teas with fenugreek, neem, fennel or hibiscus have helped tremendously.
    - The search and destroy method has helped keep single strand knots at bay and I didn't have to do a major trim or cut throughout the year.
    - I went back to coconut oil as a prepoo, only for the length of my hair and it loves it. I also use it as a light sealant, except in cold climate.
    *☆ Goals for 2024:*
    - Retain more length. I'm currently waist length and want to reach tailbone by end of this year.
    *My final goal is thigh lenght when stretched. I want to achieved a blunt rounded cut and get rid of my short layers, 70% of my hair is to my waist.*
    - Keep permantent parts with (about 12) chunky twists for washing and styling. I would wear headwraps if it's messy, I've never wore wigs.
    - Be more contistent with scalp massages and my weekly DIY scalp oil, it has:
    rosemary and lemongrass leaves, neem powder, crushed pumpkin seeds, hibiscus and essential oil like eucalyptus, tea tree and lavender. The carrier oils are olive, avocado and black seed.

    • @KlassicallyKept
      @KlassicallyKept  6 місяців тому +2

      Hello Sunshine. You have this down to a T! and I love it.
      The permanent parts is definitely something I will be taking in 2024, once I trim and wash my hair. I fond it just made wash day easier. I did not notice any break at the parts so I will continue, if something changes I will adjust.
      Tea rinses are so good, I have used Fenugreek before, it works but David is allergic, who cant keep it in the house.
      I wish you much success in your hair growth journey.

    I learned my hair likes to be stretched, doesn't mind heat at the revair levels (so long as I only do 40 seconds per section and use large enough sections), and that Ayurveda has a lot to offer my hair but I need to use it in a way that doesn't ruin my plumbing!
    Goal for 2024 is to get more of a routine, including favorite products, and just stick to it instead of experimenting so much.
    As someone who had hair so long it was bothering me, so I would cut it back to brastrap length every 6 months, I can appreciate the benefits and drawbacks of long hair. Brastrap length is my lifestyle ideal, and I'm close to that already, so mostly my goal is a simple, consistent routine for healthy hair.

    Hey queen!
    I just recently discovered ur channel & i am automatically a fan
    I cut my hair about a year ago & have been trying to figure out my hair. I just recently began my actual hair journey, i have been washing consistently & realize that isn’t enough! My hair is about 3b/c & thin, my main goal is to retain length, increase its health & get my hair as thick as possible. I am taking your advice on trims as it is something i haven’t done when needed, & low manipulation styles. I got a “curly cut” in April of 2023 & i realize it’s not needed tbh. I like the layers for volume but I’m at the stage where i feel like my hair needs to thrive in protective & low manipulation styles. I really appreciate your holistic viewpoints, your knowledge & honesty about trends & what works for you. Your hair is beautiful & has inspired me to love my hair the way it needs to be

      Trims! So important. In 2024 I will continue to keep up with mine, I noticed in 2023 I was able to retain so much more length.
      Curly Cuts - there was a huge debate going on about this topic, but I am glad you were able to try it and then ultimately found out they might not be for you.
      On my channel I try to keep it simple and honest. Again welcome.

    Hello Mya, I enjoy watching your videos. I have purchased the Bhringha powder and will start placing it into my deep conditioner. Now, I see you will incorporate a new powder into your conditioner. I may add it as well, lol. I’m about healthy hair and have taken the best of care of my hair since a young teenager. I commend you on the time and energy you incorporate in your twists. I tried it last year while still transitioning from relaxed to natural & I’m still in transitioning stage since Dec 2022. More of my natural hair is growing in but I will continue the journey the long way. Your hair is beautiful and heard your statement about when you would cut your hair. Remember your hair is your Glory. If your hair grows that long, a suggestion, would you not cut it, no matter how long. You can always roll it with small rollers to uptake some of the length. God is showing all women who watch your videos through you that he can make me and other women hair this length. You are a testimony and continue to let God show his mighty power in your hair. Thank you for your time, energy and great information to this hair world.

    Great video, Mya!!!I'm so glad you were able to become 'friends' with the RevAir. I tried and it made my hair very dehydrated. I learned that my hair has to have trims to stay healthy. Love full, thick ends and will monitor their condition to keep up with the trims. I abolished Henna March 2022 to embrace my gray streaks. My hair can easily become hygral fatigued due to low porosity if I allow it to air dry. In 2024-Goals. Continue to learn my hair as it is always changing. I plan to wear straight or stretched styles more often and decrease manipulation. Continue to simplify my regimen. Goal length-Tail bone. Please do a video on how you use the RevAir. I combed my locs out 2 years ago and cut my hair to armpit length at that time. My hair grew back to hip length, but it was split ends mania. I think the cuticles were just too compromised from all that combing. I cut my hair back to bra strep length and I'm hoping to be able to grow it back to hip length again.
    I noticed stretched styles work best for me too. The amount of stretching that works best seems to be something close to what my hair is like when it's wet. That way it doordat shrink up too much when drying, but it also doesn't shrink when getting it wet. The latter happens with straightened hair... It's always a challenge detangle when my curls revert.
    I stopped using styling products like gels and mouses. Instead I'm using leave in, a light curling cream and oils. I have been loving that!
    I want to stretch time between washes as well. I went down from one a week to one every 2 weeks, and I'm doing fine. My hair is still hydrated by the end of the 2 weeks.
    That powder sounds interesting! I'm going to have to look up how that is used. I might go on this journey with you.
    I'm wondering about Rahsoul clay too. But honestly, I might be more of an organic, nice smelling, store bought product girl 😅

      I have never really used gels and mousses, I know they work for some, but I try to stick with works best and not become a product junkie.

    My goal is length retention. I strayed away from butters and oils doing wash and gos. And my hair was so dry!!! I’ve since stopped that madness and have went back to weekly shampoo, deep conditioning or rinse out conditioner, leave in, seal mid shaft to ends with blue magic conditioning hair dress and an oil at the roots of my hair. Braid it up in 8 chunky braids to stretch while drying. When I take it down I can put it in chunky two strand twists and wear it down or half up/half down! I’ve realized my hair stretches better in the braids and my ends don’t tangle on themselves as much. I wear a scarf 99% of the time at home and of course when sleeping. And it’s cold so if I’m running errands I have on scarf under my beanie. At work my hair is not wrapped or covered but I may try it soon. I’ve noticed less shedding when I shampoo and my hair appears more full! I do not have high density hair and my strands are fine to medium. I can rock a wash and go but I prefer not to when it’s cold and I’m really trying to see if I retain length this way better 😊😊

    Lessons:
    - I've learned that my hair is obsessed with Ayurveda!!! I've been using a Henna Rosemary ayurvedic oil (with amla, bhringraj, neem, brahmi, and some others) and it's AMAZING!!!!
    - I've also learned from another natural hair youtuber LindsayChris that for single strand knots and breakage at the ends you can do "knotted twists" which is basically doing like a bantu knot but at the end of your twists to keep yours ends literally tucked away! I've started doing that for some weeks now and already the difference is CRAZY!!!
    Goals:
    - Continuing with length retention! Doing twists is my go-to style and usually I'll do head wraps for rainy days or whenever I feel like.
    - The search and destroy method works well for me!
    - Oiling my scalp regularly!!!! As well as using my rosemary fenugreek water!!!
    - I also wanna get better with finger detangling and stretching!!! I'm still struggling with figuring out how to stretch my hair without using excessive blowdryer heat

      Hello.
      My hair has always been naturally thick, but I do use rosemary and peppermint oil as well.
      And for 2024 I will be trying the Chebe powder to help grow out my nape area.

    Since you have a nut allergic reaction, I think you should try castor oil. Camille rose has a black castor oil with Chebe in it and it's amazing. Other brands tropic isle, sunny isle, and kreyol essence. I use the rosemary oil and it works well for me, but I'm not allergic to nuts so it's different. I always wanted to try chebe powder.

      I like Camille Rose! Thank you, I will for this the next time I got to Target or the beauty supply store.
      I am excited to try the Chebe!

      Your diet can play a role in healthy hair as well, but also in your overall health.
      I try to keep my diet simple.
      I eat fruits and veggies as well, no fried foods. Everything in moderation. No juice or sodas, I drink tea and water.

    Do you think the Amla oil will work the same as the powder? I have some oil already and want to try and use what I have to save some coins.

    • @KlassicallyKept
      @KlassicallyKept  6 місяців тому +2

      Hello London.
      Amla oil should work just as well.
      Just be careful of where you buy it.
      A lot of people buy it from the Indian store, I believe it comes in a green bottle. That particular brand of Amla oil has a lot of additives and preservatives.
      Look at the back of the bottle, the Amla should be the first 1-4 ingredients. The further down the Amla is listed in the ingredients the less of it there is.
      I understand, use what you have if you feel comfortable, and jus be sure to look out for anything unusual, like your hair behaving differently.

      Thank you for your response! I got it from Etsy from a bulk wholesaler so hopefully that works and it doesn’t block my leave in from penetrating my hair.

    Hey x can I ask if you had your hair trimmed professionally done every time? Or only one done professionally when your hair is straight and the others yourself at home? X

    • @KlassicallyKept
      @KlassicallyKept  6 місяців тому

      Good morning Cherelle!
      Prior to January 2023 I was trimming my own ends.
      January 2023 I decided to treat myself to a professional trim. I found a stylist at my local Ulta, I did research her as I am very apprehensive about hairstylist. She did a wonderful job. I went to set-up my next trim appointment only to find she moved to Texas!
      So moving forward in the beginning of the year I will have a professional trim and then I will maintain at home. ( I have found another stylist in my area, and she specializes in natural hair !)

    How long did the cool settings take to dry your hair?

    • @KlassicallyKept
      @KlassicallyKept  6 місяців тому +2

      Hello! So it did take longer.
      I cant say how long each section took. I would leave the section of hair in the hose for a few minutes and then take it out to check to see if the hair was dry.
      Next time, I can certainly time it.

      How about using Jamaican black castor oil. That's good for thickness.

    • @Sunshine_Hime
      @Sunshine_Hime 6 місяців тому +3

      Some things that have helped many people:
      *(NOTE: Make sure to do more research, that you're not allergic to anything or doesn't interact any medication you take)*
      - For increased thickness, promoting blood circulation, a healthy scalp and hair (& scientifically proven):
      Scalp massages; topical application of pumpkin seed oil, onion juice, peppermint and rosemary essential oil. Some of these are also DHT blockers like pumpkin seed oil, also green tea and caffeine.
      - Make sure you are gentle when handling and detangling your hair to avoid breakage at the shaft. Use silk or satin scarf, bonnet or pillowcase to sleep and be careful of the hair ties with harsh textures and accessories.
      - If it's growing thinner from the root:
      avoid stress, sleep well, drink water and eat healthy. Make sure you're not deficient in any nutrients or vitamins, especially iron, vitamin D, and B12. Consult with your doctor for any supplements and check if you have any other health or scalp problems hindering your hair's fullest potential.
      I hope this helps🥰.

      I'm glad my previous comment helped. I remember a few more things:
      -The scalp massages were done daily for about 10 minutes in the scientific study.
      - Make sure to dilute castor oil with another carrier oil of your liking since it's quite heavy on the scalp and hair on its own.
      - Essential oils like tea tree, eucalyptus, and lavender also help and have proof of it. *There are Google articles about the studies.*
      - Ayurvedic ingredients like Amla, Fenugreek, Bhringraj, Hibiscus, Neem, Brahmi, and Ashwagandha have given positive results. I mostly see people use the first 4 I mentioned.
      *There are UA-camrs I recommend that really helped me learn to care for my hair. I'm 22 now and at waist length thanks to these ladies:*
      - Curly Chemistry: she's a cosmetic chemist and all of her videos focus on the science of hair. She does live streams where she answers questions; if you contact her further, she does 1 on 1 consultations and even helps people create haircare brands.
      - Green Beauty Channel, she an OG in natural hair, doesn't post as frequent now BUT has a lot of videos also focused on the science of hair.
      - Curly Proverbz: she grew her hair long and increased its thickness using mainly Ayurveda, has a successfully brand and does hair challenges on Facebook where you can see the testimonies of people.
      I wish you all the best😁.

    Does amla oil work?

    • @KlassicallyKept
      @KlassicallyKept  6 місяців тому +1

      I have not used Amla oil just the powder, what I will say is just be careful of where you buy it. A lot of people buy the Amla oil from the Indian store, I believe it is in that green bottle. The Amla oil in the green bottle has many additives and preservatives in it.
      Turn the bottle over, the Amla should be one of the 1-4 ingredients. Ingredients are typically listed in order, the further down the Amla is listed on the bottle, the less there is.
      Amla oil can give great benefits as well, just be careful of where you buy it and read the labels ! 😊
