- Interview with Francis Lee (director), Alec Secăreanu (actor) and Josh O´Connor (actor) about the film GOD´S OWN COUNTRY.
Young Johnny is running his ailing father’s farm in Yorkshire, England. The communication between father and son reflects their adverse living and working conditions, the father’s utterances mostly being restricted to terse criticism of his son. Johnny’s grandmother plays her part stoically. A frustrated Johnny endures his strenuous daily routine. In a bid to escape the harsh daily grind, he has nostrings sex with men, or gets drunk at the local pub. In the spring, a farm hand is taken on for the season. Romanian Gheorghe is the same age as Johnny, who at first eyes him with suspicion. The initial tension between the two men soon gives way to an intense relationship. This opens up completely new prospects but also presents new challenges for Johnny. In his feature-length debut, Francis Lee finds authentic images to depict farm life as one of privation. His film concentrates on the looks and gestures of his characters and their physical proximity. The archaic landscape of ‘God’s own country’ as the locals call their county, perfectly reflects the turmoil going on inside the protagonists.

I love this film...I don't appreciate the interviewer saying it disturbs gender roles...being kind and giving and warm are human qualities not feminine qualities!!!!
The interviewer was bad anyways, don't give too much on that.
and that was not the worst part of the interview
Exactly, he's talking like he's not even seen the film. And the fact that he says that those features are tipically feminine, makes me wonder where the hell he lives or what kind of people he knows tbh....
Also they all seem so tense and uncomfortable. Even Josh who is usually so kind and smiley (btw, how beautiful is he??)
grant stokes ... I watched the film and I was moved by Gheorghe's love towards Josh. Patient, loving, understanding. The two contrast characters brings forth a good chemistry in a relationship.
Francis Lee has told the story everyone hopes for, quiet, peaceful, loving and lasting....
My god, this interviewer is the reason why actors hate junkets. The director and the actors here were generous to see this interview through.
Best film I can remember. These three have achieved something extraordinary and authentic, almost unbearably beautiful and ultimately uplifting.
This was a simple but great film. Sticks with you for a while, and that's a sign of a successful film.
Alec is dreamy * . *
He is my future husband
Thanks to Alec too! He has a. New.fan!
LOVED this film. Saw it for the second time last night - BUT - this interview is bloody TERRIBLE!! It's as though the interviewer hasn't prepared his questions, and they are met with awkward pauses / silence and blinking by the cast. How uncomfortable 😱
Im with you! sooooooo uncomfortbale !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw another interviews of Alec and Francis. Why the hell these interviewers are so disturbing and uncomfortable?I felt sorry and ashamed about the situationt they faced :(
Feels like this guy didn’t even watch the movie before and was just given notes to read off of
100%! This was painful to watch. 😩
I watched this film 4 times and love everything about it.
The interviewer is so awkward it's irritating. They seem so uncomfortable answering his questions.
Absolutely wonderful film. Great characters, wonderful acting and directing. Saw it today in Toronto at the Bell Tiff Lightbox and loved it. Fantastic to watch a movie without relentless music pushing at you. Amazingly silent intensity.
These two actors exhibited the best performance ever.
I also feel awkward for three of them because of the interviewer. but I reaaaally love this film and I am starting shipping josh and Alec now they are so cute and fit with each other lmao.
One of the best films I've ever seen! Both actors were remarkable and convincing! First movie a huge success, hope you make many more!
I just saw this film here in Washington DC and I loved it! So intense, in a good way.
i thought this interview was annoying at first , but i stuck with it and my frustration and irritation with the interviewer got less....the interview got better in the last parts. i really love this movie ⚘
Outstandingly beautiful film! Just wonderful!
Listen up Motion Picture Academy . The People say, consider this Film for an Oscar . It's that powerful ! Thanks .
Wonderful movie with to Amazing actors who deliver magnificent performance. Hope it's going be N2. LOVE IT
the interviewer keeps looking at his notes or shoes instead of looking at the people he's interviewing wtf
We love you Alec and Josh 😍😍😍 my God Alec is my dream boy
He'll never want you.
@@pagethreemodel kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk sad
The interviewer is clearly out of his element. One can note how bored Josh and Alec are.
This has to be the worst interviewer ever.
Horrendous interviewer !
I agree!!!!! terrible
Yeh you can see flickers of Josh getting pissed off at the questions in his face 😆
alec is amazing, he blows my mind....best performance of that year for sure !!!!
can share it with the wonderful josh. !
Super jazzed for this ...
I loved the authenticity of the film. The only thing that didn't seem realistic to me, is that John doesn't struggle to find "occasional fucks", which is weird because he lives in such an isolated place and also because he doesn't really go to gay pubs or engage in the lgbt community.
Great film with amazing chemistry. Please make a sequel or part 2.
Horrid interviewer though.
Beautiful film ...palpable! It’s love
Amazing and wonderful Movie.
Well acted movie , the locations were very unique, I give this movie a 10+
This is so inspiring!!!
Iam lookin forward to this Film.♡
1:28 from Josh to Johnny in .2 seconds flat
😂😂
Great film!
This interview is kinda awkward but i love the film, Its my favorite Gay movie? :D
omfg new fav. movie they are so cute together 😭
Did this guy even c the movie?
brilliant and fantastic film.
How many time can you say word “like”?! Terrible interviewer! Great film though!
The interviewer took a lot of their parts and not responsive enough. That's not such a good thing to do as an interviewer. But the three of them still good and mature enough to respond him. I through this kinda interview, because i really enjoying alec and josh look 😁
Thank you...It looks very nice...
Shame. Bad interview unconfortable!
Very interesting comments my Francis Lee about his film. I feel that he did an excellent job with the naturalistic aspect of his film; very raw and real at times, but not exploitive in that sense. As a gay man who came out late in life, however, I perceived his story as two gay men, especially Johnny, struggling to come to terms with being gay, which completely contradicts what Lee says at the end of the interview. Art: subjective. Richard in San Francisco
+Richard Fey, it's less that he's coming to terms with being gay, it's more that he has to come to terms with being able to allow feelings of tenderness into his life, which has a possible cause in the difficulties of his life.
There are sequences, particularly with the female ex-classmate, where it is obvious that he has already been out to her, so I think the gay thing is more incidental to the story than his prickly, negative behaviour.
Richard Fey I am 53, from the north of England, and came out later. One thing I loved about this movie is that i didn’t think it was about that internal struggle that some have (perhaps almost all used to have). They both knew their own sexuality, it was (for me) about the redemptive power of love and was actually not about being gay, it was simply that gay men were the protagonists here. My own struggle was never to accept myself, rather it was to find a place for that self in the world around me. I guess that’s what resonated with me, I had never before seen that story told. Even though I lived it!
Ok, it's not only about being gay, but it's also about that. He didn't allow "feelings of tenderness" and other feelings probably because he felt different. We can understand that being gay it's not a big deal, but we can't deny it's a big part of any gay person, psychological aspects of your life are not detached from social and cultural ones.
Richard Fey wow I loved it because it wasn’t about that!
Victor, it goes without saying that one's sexuality is a big part of anybody's life, and no less so had Johnny been straight and was relieving his frustrations by having brief and rather rough sex with women. The cultural and social ramifications of that would still hold true.
Are we meant to infer that Francis Lee is not being entirely honest in this interview and that inadvertently he wrote a movie that is also about accepting one's sexuality? I, for one, am prepared to take him at his word, as I saw no evidence in the film to support the contrary notion. Johnny may well have believed that the possibility of a committed relationship (as one sees celebrated quite commonly now) would have been completely unattainable in his particular circumstance. That in itself is cause of frustration.
Love Josh ! But I also love this gorgeous Roumanian actor! 😂
*Romanian
@@SethHanLee sorry. Romanian 🙂
@@yevatatosyan it's okay, now you know😉
three very handsome men and an awkward interviewer
horrendous interview … Francis … Alec and Josh were patient and gracious
Such a spectacular movie.
this film is good
Great movie
Love the movie but this is, perhaps, one of the worse interviews I have ever seen...
I am struggling to get through this. This interviewer is beyond awkward! Josh looks real annoyed or bored and self conscious
They looked very uncomfortable
Count how many times the interviewer says "like" 🙄🙄
💜💜💜
In looking back at this interview, the two actors look like they're wondering what's going to be asked of them. One question I would ask both of them if, IF they are gay and if they are not, was it hard to play such intense gay love and sex scenes as "straight" men. I think that might have made the squirm and may be why they don't seem to want to say too much in the interview. Anyone else wonder the same thing?
It would be really rude and awkward if you had asked them if they are gay...That's very private.
Richard Fey ABSOLUTELY. I just commented above, I'm appalled at how awkward everyone is during the interview. The actors barely smile and look like they've been drugged - the interviewer doesn't know what he's waffling about - and the director is the only bugger who has anything to genuinely say! 😱
Ricky H To be fair, I'd say they have been doing a lot of interviews at this point and they look exhausted. Also the interviewer is quite awkward and humourless with his questioning. The actors look puzzled with his questions so there is no natural flow .. they are doing their best I think with a very dull interview style
Richard Fey The bad and also the good news is they are very straight.😁

Movie was amazing the interviewer not so much. !
The interviewer is so dead and untrianed at all,
I'm sorry but somebody needs to talk to that interviewer. So awkward and cringy to listen to.
Elton Domingo like foreall. Like someone needs to remove him from being an interview. Like forever. Cuz like, I can’t take this shit!
This guy is the worst interviewer. Geez. This was painful to watch.
The interviewer was quite boring and the questions terrible to mediocre.
beards like than mans scare me...
Josh looks kind of boring, and Alec looks like someone take him from the movie, Georghe with new clothes there hahaha
i wonder if these actors are actually gay or just playing the roll?
It doesn't matter if they're gay or not, they are playing a roll
Josh has a girlfriend, so he isn’t aha but not sure about Alec.
@@julialelewel4477 Alec have a girlfriend too (he said this in an interview at less) May be true?
What kind of interview is this, pretty boring. The movie is great!!
Terrible interviewer. He makes everyone feel uncomfortable!
Asian interviewrr struggles to interview the writer/director and two leads in this brilliant movie.
I'm sorry but this interview makes me cringe....
awkward
interviewer is no good lol....
worst interview ever
His beard is terrifying
Don't you mean magnificent?
why does this look so ungainly
