Yeah after a rewatch I was less enthused about the finale, I was mostly just relieved that they veered back toward the books rather than continuing with any of the terrible plots like 'evil Mat' they'd been dragging out all season. Hard disagree on Episode 6 though, I thought it was absolutely glacial. Half an hour of content dragged out to an hour with zero plot progress to show for it.
I didn't really mind Rand decimating Turak like that. What DID annoy me though was how his moment with Ishamael was just given over to Egwene. Also Egwene freeing herself was just horrible writing from a logical standpoint. I'm also not entirely sold on the dagger being turned to a spear thingy by Mat, but we'll have to wait and see how that plays out in the show. Overall, it was a good episode, but in my opinion episode 4 or episode 6 would have been the best episode of the season. They better start giving Rand his moments from next season onwards otherwise I might just join the hate review train lol
Agreed, I guess they wanted to empower Egwene by 'saving herself' but the logic of the a'dam function and also not weaponizing objects didn't really seem to hold there. The thing with Ishamael I think was less important than, say, wiping out the Trollocs in season 1, since she wasn't able to actually really do anything against Ishamael and it was still Rand in the end who stopped him. Same deal with the dagger, I hope Season 3 starts with them getting rid of it / healing him of it more thoroughly and he gets the Ashandarei as per the book. If they try to use the dagger as a way to replace the Finns I will riot.
Way too much of the writing so far seems to be guided entirely by a) making Rosamund Pike relevant and b) giving the female channelers big moments (at the expense of others). Those characters have important power moments later, it's not beneficial to their character development if they are just turned up to 11 from the outset and never have anywhere to go from there.
@@MaesterEamon I mean, I get why they're making Rosamund Pike relevant; she's literally the star actress in the show. They have to be able to give her more than 15 minutes worth of screen time in the entire season and justify her presence. But I agree with the female channeler thing. It's annoying because WoT by definition has a LOT of badass female channeler moments; they don't need to cut out Rand's moments like that. I get that they wanted to empower Egwene, and I would not have had any issues with that if only the writing was better and did not go against all logic. How is a damane simultaneously a sul'dam??? They needed a MUCH cleverer way to justify her empowerment because this felt too corny in my opinion.
@@MaesterEamon And same, Mat better get a proper Ashandarei and his medallion. I have high hopes that we will get the Finns next season because they DID show Mat hanging from the branch in the whole tea-vision thing. I just hope they don't replace the Finns with some BS that doesn't make sense. What I'm NOT hopeful about however is the prospect of us seeing Tear fall and Rand get Callandor. Who is he supposed to face off with in Tear now that Ishamael is dead (unless they explain the True Power and the Dark One resurrecting him next season?). Finally, is it just me or is the actress for Moghedien not selling it? Everywhere I see people seem to love Moghedien's introduction, but it felt a bit cringey to me. Overall, I really enjoyed the season, but I really hope they'll fix these issues in the next couple of seasons
I think it's a very different Moghedien than the books, but not necessarily a bad thing. Lanfear did say 'Moghedien's insane' in one of the earlier eps so I think that's what they're going for. I might not be a huge fan of that particular version of the charater but I think overall giving the Forsaken some more distinct personalities probably won't be a bad thing, even if they're a bit eccentric.
Nah nothing can be as bad as the rings of power - for me the season 2 finale was ok not great as other episodes were more compelling but not so bad as book nazis say.
Book reader here. This was watchable, cringe but watchable. Rings of power is objectively unwatchable. But I do agree wot is a disaster and blatantly disrespectful to the world James created in 91.
They need to up the writing in the show and the fight scene cinematography. Don’t get me wrong. The action is fantastic. They just don’t know how to film it, the insane amount of cuts they make on top of the stupid writing as you pointed out… makes what could be an amazing show, very very mid.
Yeah on watching this episode a few more times and seeing other reviews of it it's still quite disappointing. Mainly the end sequence (the fight with Ishamael). I think I was just so happy that they finally got rid of the 'on-again-off-again warder' and 'dark Mat' storylines that I was willing to ignore ongoing crap writing.
and that bad fight cinematography seems to be just a thing in movies/TV these days. They do all this shaky camera, thousand cuts, etc. shit to try to make it seem chaotic for the viewer but it looks like shit and makes it painful to watch.
@@MaesterEamon the thing is the actors kill it in the fight choreography, it’s literally the crappy filming/editing that ruins the fights. They all feel incredibly short and all over the place. They cut a shot 4 different ways to highlight what they see as impressive. You add the lack of action (call it that) with a really rough script and I just don’t get it. I’ve never read the books, but I never read the foundation series For comparison and if you put those shoes back to back… they don’t play on the same field.
Wrong. Episode 6 was the best. Episode 5 was the second best. The Finale was of pretty average quality for the second season.
